    In this video I will go over how to design and model a very cool modern media console from start to finish using my favorite design app on my 2022 12.9" iPad Pro: Shapr3D. The program is also available on Mac and PC, and the workflow will be the same across all platforms. At the end, we'll also go over how to make a cutting list to prepare for building this. In the video you'll learn all the basics from sketching, creating basic shapes, and using 3D modeling tools.
    *Thanks to Shapr3D for sponsoring this project!

    As a home hobbyist, the pricing structure is not realistic. Some months, I'll design a few ideas and then go months with no use. I'd gladly pay a few 100 to own a copy, but ongoing monthly, the value isn't there. I know subscription based is the new norm. It's a shame because it looks like a nice program. Great tutorial.

      Im in the same boat as you. Just use the free version. You get two project files but you can have multiple models in one file. And you can delete old models you’ve already made IRL or don’t plan to make.
      Subscription sucks because it just alienates non professionals. That being said, when photoshop wasn’t subscription back in the 90s it was like $700 so that’s not realistic either.

    With reference to the sketches (new sketch) I believe this is done for more complex engineering drawings, when I used solidworks, it came in handy for creating ports or stuff that comes out of a main body. Like lofts and stuff.
    I used it for the water pump housing project for college.

    Massively appreciate these videos and thanks for quick response to my prior cnc vs conventional tool question. One more question if you don’t mind.
    It appears a limitation for Shapr3D is ability to make a cut list. I like how you lay out parts in your cutting diagram section, but was wondering how you are viewing the dimensions once you are actually in your shop working. Do you just keep your laptop/iPad in shop and click the parts in Shapr3D? Or am I missing an obvious other way to get the part dimensions printed or something else for bringing into my shop to cut/build.
    I hope my question makes sense. Cheers.

    • @BevelishCreations
      @BevelishCreations  10 місяців тому

      Yeah I always work with my iPad in the shop. But there’s a “dimensions” tool in the app (I thought I mentioned it in the video). You can click on and off to show and hide the dimensions. And you can print it when the dimensions are shown. But usually once I’m done modeling, it’s only 80% ready for the build. I’ll get started building and will make changes to the design when I encounter problems or if I come up with new ideas. So I always have my iPad in the shop

    Loving shapr3d so far, and your videos are among the best for learning how to use it! My biggest issue so far is actually how much work the cutting list ends up being. Thanks for the nice tutorial. Revisions to a design are something I struggle with in Shapr3D. Say you get to the end of the design and decide to change the overall length of the case; how do you go about making that kind of change (and of course all of the changes that result from that)? Comments or a video on that process would be most welcome.

    • @BevelishCreations
      @BevelishCreations  Рік тому

      You’ll have to make adjustments separately to the parts. Like selecting the end faces of the miters on the top and bottom panels, extending them. And then you’ll have to go in and readjust the spacing for the parts. Like I mentioned in the video, it’s a direct modeling program, so there aren’t rules within 3D parts like in parametric programs

    @ around 6:40 in the video (where you type the value 1650 to resize the panels and create the box), is there a tool that lets you resize by snapping to the other body? Or, do you have to do the math to resize correctly?

    Thank you very much for posting. I am a woodworker who is just getting into 3d modeling my furniture builds and hopefully jumping into CNC here shortly. Would you use your CNC machine to cut out all of those front slats? Just wondering with your workflow whether conventional woodworking tools are quicker vs taking this cut list and making all of this cuts with a CNC if you had a machine capable of 4x8.

    • @BevelishCreations
      @BevelishCreations  11 місяців тому

      I’m building this guy right now and decided against cutting those out with the CNC. Main reason is because I want the corners where it meets with the rails to be sharp corners. A CNC can’t make sharp inside corners because of the bits. There will always be some radius along the inside radius depending on what size bits we use.

      @jelleluiken can you post something on the shapr3d Facebook group? Or DM me a video on instagram? I think someone also had similar problem before but they figured out what happened. I don’t remember why

    Can u tell your friends at Shaper3D for someone who is gona use the program fiew times a year to model some furniture 20 $ a month is ludicrous. And I know there is a basic version and it is limited so much it reminds me of phone games. So is there a possibility of one tim price like 50 $ and no us wood workers don't need all the options. Just something simple where u can put some different colors on different peaces and mark measurements .

    • @BevelishCreations
      @BevelishCreations  8 місяців тому +1

      I have no say on what Shapr3D does with their program 😂 but I worked with the free version for a long time, and it was fine. There’s a workaround to getting colors on them

      @user-gv1gd2ls6y I don’t think they’ll appreciate it if I showed the workaround 😂. But yes, you can add measurements like SketchUp. I’m pretty sure the Measurements tool works in the free version right? I could be wrong
