- Which ‘Cuda is better? AutoHunter Cinema compares the performance version of the original 1970 Barracuda with the facelifted 1971. Both are similar under the skin, and both have their charms, but the ’71 is the one that had a lukewarm reception when new yet now just may be the king of the muscle cars. We caught both rarities at the Barrett-Jackson 2024 Scottsdale Auction.

I always thought the 70 grille and tail lights had a cleaner look over the 71. A friend had a Black 70 Cuda 440 6BBL with a Shaker hood and the elastomeric bumpers front and back....my favorite Cuda..
I’m a huge fan of the 1970 ‘Cuda ! I had a ‘70 Barracuda six cylinder special that would outrun most small block 2 bbl.’s ! Also a ‘73 Barracuda with a small block 318 that was warmed over a touch with a shift kit , headers , duals , etc. I miss them both , but I’m learning to live with my 2023 Last Call Dodge Challenger Hellcat Jailbreak in Plum Crazy purple . It’s tough but I’m trying to power through it all . With 717 HP , it’s pretty easy to do ! Love that ‘70 . My neighbor actually has a 1970 340 ‘Cuda survivor , but it needs a little attention . Still a driver and SHE has owned it for 49 years , so far ! Got it as a grad present in 1975 . Cool dad !
1970 all the way, had one, much cleaner looking.
1971 grille, dual headlamps and fender gilles look "BUSY" to put it diplomatically!!
