_Adore_ thru the _Machinas_ is probably my favorite Smashing Pumpkins era… and ‘Everlasting Gaze’ is probably my favorite “heavy metal” song of theirs, or at least single 🤙
Yup... Got to agree... Her bass tone pretty bad... I think I've read an interview where Billy's having problem with her bass tone playing over the top of his guitar sound.. Well that's just Billy being Billy I guess
Yes I definitely agree about Melissa. Everything she touches has a great bass tone! I'm not even really into "Hole" but her bass parts sound great, especially on Malibu!
@@bradatjimijaks Really? I would argue he is one of the best ever, rock and jazz. Machina and the Machines of God is a bizarre album. 20 years old but sounds like its from the year 2050. Its so good and so godamn edgy its hard to not listen to it everyday
This music played on late night tv in the 1990s, just another indication that after all, the 90s was the best decade ever! And how hot is Melissa on that monstrous base, the thing is as big as she is!!! And Jimmy Chamberlain is just a drumming demigod!!! And Billy is making that amp and speaker set up cry bullets with his guitar. And James Iha was also there 👍
Holy year 2000! The intro looks so dated now in 2018 lol I remember I was a junior in high school in 2000 and I was obsessed with this album, such an amazing generation and culture defining band. I’m gonna see them in July in Chicago for their reunion tour. I feel like these last few years 2016, 2017, 2018 have been a reiteration of 96, 97, 98 in so many ways and I’m enjoying it so much :D
so many dislike this album. I dont know why. To me its their best, especially - stand inside your love. Its the most beautiful love song in the world to me.
Even though Melissa just played along to music that had already been created and recorded by the band? Did she contribute anything creatively to the band?
They could be a bit hit and miss live but they were really on it there. I agree, how good is Jimmy. A powerhouse up there with Bonham for sure. The Pumpkins were not the Pumpkins without Jimmy, and they're still not the Pumpkins without him now.
@@Arrona222 Jimmy doesn’t play double bass here. The ending is sort of a paradiddle pattern between his left hand and right foot. There was a UA-cam video that isolated from each part of his kit, but it seems to have been taken down.
I remember seeing this. It was a couple of months after Bill Maher took a shot at the Pumpkins on that show. I remember this performance like it was yesterday. I was a fan of Maher on ABC, so I was like, "how's this gonna go" after the weird performance on MTV where that snare kept misfiring. Still a fan of both. It's super interesting to see the "Bills" these days talking, stoned it appears, about guy shi*. It's a fun weird watching this now.
The guitars were tuned so low you can't even tell the chords in the chorus part. What a performance. Jimmy's the best drummer of his generation, hands down.
Everlasting Gaze is such an underrated SP song. Jimmy Chamberlain totally makes the killer outro.
His fill ins are ridiculous.
Jimmy is a real PRO!
That outro patern is technically insane.

Jimmy is untouchable
At 1:28 Jimmy Chamberlin is like... I CAN'T CONTAIN... THE.... POWER!!!!!!!!
He is legit one of the best in the world.
I mean I wouldn’t argue that Jimmy isn’t good because he is, but my dude he is nowhere near the best drummer in the world.
Agree: GLORY.

Seems like he’s rushing, going at a faster bpm than the record.

So well said. This nails it.
That's is the greatest description I have ever heard of this album. Well said. This album blew my mind.
The wonders of Flood and Alan Moulder. It's so sad that they don't work together anymore.
When that record came out, I told my friend that I hoped and prayed that would be the future of rock music. Oh well.
YES. It sounds like the future from the past 💙
This is what happens when you have: great songwritting + virtusoso musics + great live performancers + amazing aesthetic
JImmy The Best Drummer
A nice guy, too.

Melissa, James, Jimmy! Bring this SP back! So on point.
Such an incredible performance. They all brought it here
Chamberlin is unbelievable. Peart, Moon, Chamberlin. Amazing.

Here to agree with all the Jimmy love

You know I'm not dead
You know I'm you know I'm not dead
You know I'm not dead
Now you know where I've been
As you sleep torn I am
Weighted down patiently
Born of love
You know I'm you know I'm not dead
I'm just living in my head
Forever waiting on the ways of your desire
You always find your way
And through it all into us all you move
Forgotten touch, forbidden thought
We can never have enough
You know I'm not dead
You know I'm, you know I'm not dead
You know I'm not dead
Found below the creatures scream
Stranglehold a god machine
Begging to tear us out
Worn as hope
You know I'm, you know I'm not dead
I'm just the tears inside your head
Forever waiting on the ways of your desire
You always find a way
And through it all, into us all you move
Forgotten touch, forbidden thought
We can never have enough
You know I'm not dead
We all want to hold in The Everlasting Gaze
Enchanted in the rapture of his sentimental sway
But underneath the wheels lie the skulls of every c.o.g.
The fickle fascination of an everlasting God
You know I'm not dead
I'm just living in my head
Forever waiting, forever waiting a cruel death
You know I'm not dead
I'm just living for myself
Forever waiting
You know I'm not dead
You know I'm not dead
You know I'm not dead
You know I'm not dead
