  • Are you reluctant to poke around your car’s fuse box? By design, those multi-colored cartridges constitute the weak links in your electrical system. If something goes haywire, they’ll fail before the rest of the circuit, preventing further damage to your car-or worse, electrical fires. But not everyone thinks to check if they are functioning properly. Hagerty’s Matt Lewis teaches you the simple procedure using the handy-dandy multimeter. And if one is unavailable, he shows you a quick visual test to make sure your wiring is protected.

Thank you for making this series of DIY videos! I would like to see some more like it including adding radios and accessory components to existing electrical circuits. There are lots of videos and tutorials out there but your content quality and explanations are great.

does it matter which direction i put the new fuse back in ? some of mine r upside down n backward… 2008 bmw 328xi, i mean i will j put it back in the same way it was before, but how it was before is backward vs. how it should look in the diagrams ? the actual fuse diagram was lost prolly in 2008 😅 its fuse 79 for the windshield wiper fluid pump

You're right about the VW fuses. They are kind of finicky. Good video, guys. Keep it up. ☺

Lots of those electrical gremlins start with a fuse or corroded connection in classic VWs. I had trouble with my turn signals in my VW bus after driving around over some rough roads. A quick check of the fuse panel showed the fuse had popped just slightly out and there wasn't good contact with the fuse panel leads.

You can buy glass replacements for the old German ceramic fuses. The glass ones have conventional metal end caps which will not fall off or bend.

My car from 1973 has two fuses and will run even with one. Times have changed with how many cars have now.

I'm a test light on the top of fuse kind of guy, for fast trouble shooting on sketchy wiring. I like the instant yes no of the light, then dig in with the meter after you find that thing that was spliced into the backup lights and ac compressor with a home style wire nut the previous owner wrapped in electrical tape. Other than that great video.

Great video but I was expecting you to start the glass fuse witch was used in pre 1976 then go to the blade fuse even thou testing is the same
