    Old fart tip for carpet installs: Use a soldering iron or heat a junk philips screw driver with a torch to make your bolt & screw holes. It'll make a clean hole and prevent fraying. Same for cutting larger holes for transmission and similar, use the soldering iron like a hot knife to cut clean.

    You said it's not the most exciting thing, but putting in Quality of Life things like a new carpet or headliner is probably one of the most gratifying feelings when you're working on a car. A fully fitted interior really takes the car from "project car that you're driving" to "car that you work on"

  • @rustler08
    @rustler08 2 місяці тому +15

    Another thing: when you do a project like this, make sure you check if the axle nut on your car is a one-time-use nut. Some brands use TTY (torque to yield) nuts, so if you re-use it you're pretty much guaranteed to have an issue with it coming loose.

    • @0013bluejay
      @0013bluejay 2 місяці тому +1

      Yep I agree, except on my VW Golf GTI it's a big axel bolt instead of a nut. Had to replace it as well when I changed my wheel hub bearing. Then torqued that thang to 150 ft-lbs 😂

  • @ianyeh75

    Replacing the carpet in an old car you want to keep a long time is one of the best things you can spend money on. It refreshes the interior, and it gets rid of the odors. My old truck’s carpet was replaced, and the old carpet smelled like cigarettes, wet dogs, and bong water from the previous owner.
    Night and day difference after the swap.
