This past winter I spent it in the Puglia region in Italy. I rented a small house in the middle of an olive field. The owner has his own olive manufacturer. While giving me a tour of his company, he explained the different levels of oil quality. The best one sold in bottles, pure 100% virgin oil comes from his best trees. The second quality comes from olives coming local farmers around the area. And to my surprise, he told me that the oil with the lowest quality is sold exclusively to the food canning industry and made mostly from the remaining olives that have fallen from the trees coming from any farmers around and not subjected to high standard of quality applied to the previous ones. So …he said, the olive oil that is in any cans is not what he would put in his mouth.
Since then, I’m buying sardines in water, remove the water and add quality olive oil.

I have done 2 sardine fasts this year. I am very insulin resistant and this helps me lower my fasting morning blood sugars. I am 76 yo female 5'2 123 lbs, been T2 over 40 years. Now off metformin x 3 years. lost 70 lbs and lowered bp. 4 years ago. I do mostly TRE and occ IF do not eat after 4pm unless unavoidable. Thyroidectomy 20 years ago. My son and I are a team, plus I listen to your videos and follow Dr Fung and Bikman. I find the sardine fasts work better for me than true fasting. I did a 72 hr sardine challenge for the most recent 21 day metabolic kick class. I ate two cans of sardines for two days then was so full and so past wanting anymore food I just went into water fasting on the third day. Then I did 4 days of water fast. I took the class because I had stalled on keto and was relying on keto treats and becoming addicted to them and basically unable to get myself to overnight fast like a two or three day fast. I was stuck and felt like I was slipping away. I never would have done the sardine challenge without being in the group. It made all the difference I needed. Having the sardines taught me that my satiety hormones and their signalling systems have probably never in my life worked properly. It felt strange, but not exactly a bad feeling, just strange. Overall I felt amazing and couldn't believe the ongoing addictive thoughts were silenced by a can of small fish.

Facts about Arsenik: Before being too worried about arsenik you need to know: Arsenic occurs in two different forms: organic and inorganic form. It is the INORGANIC form that is the most toxic to humans. Drinking water and certain foods are the biggest sources of inorganic arsenic. Not small fish like Sardines. Groundwater contaminated with arsenic is used to irrigate crops in many countries, including cereals, and root and leafy vegetables. Rice appears particularly susceptible to uptake and storage of high levels of arsenic, both the organic and inorganic forms

Anybody with a BMI below 20 should not be on any type of low/no carb keto/carni/sardine diet. Canned fish have high histamine levels. Any meat or fish that isn't fresh develops high histamine from the conversion of histidine. Scombroid food poisoning is quite well known. Methionine-homocysteine proteins are the most carcinogenic and toxic component of a diet. Methionine is angiogenic and forms blood vessels to tumors and involved in many forms of cancer. High protein animal product diets are the worst. Everybody feels great on keto/carni diets at first because to process fats/proteins as main ATP (adenosine triphosphate) cellular energy source BMR (body metabolic rate) must rise to make and keep ATP levels high to sustain that high BMR [as Carbs/glucose molecule makes more ATP molecules easier and more efficiently]. In that high BMR state cortisol, adrenaline and dopamine is released and the physiology is exactly as doing coke or meth as weight comes off, but after awhile the toxic effects "Keto/Atkins Flu" sets in. The real secret of keto/carni diets is carbs produce IGF-1 growth hormone. Between high BMR with low/no carbs and low/no IGF-1 body mass lowers. No magic in meat or fat. That same result can be done with non-animal flesh foods: Cheese, eggs, tofu, salads etc. All diets are "Keto"! Glucose through glycolysis by CoA (coenzyme A) becomes alpha-ketones pyruvate then ATP! As does fructose through fructolysis! None of these "Keto" video MDs use correct biological jargon and scientific terms correctly! Real "Ketosis" only really happens during fasting starvation mode. Dietary fats to ATP is lipolysis or "beta oxidation" by CoA to beta-ketones acetoacetate and BHB. The "MTHFR defect" is no mutation, but proof many people's ancestors did not eat high methionine-homocysteine animal based foods.

Check that and be strict with yourself when you evaluate what you may have let seep back into your diet. I have gone carnivore now as well. A couple of years ago I was on keto and over about 4 or 5 months lost about 50 lbs but the weight loss stopped and I gained it all back.
Here is what I think is happening. First realize these facts-
      1) Nearly all plants have anti-nutrients - these bind with necessary nutrients and keep your body from absorbing them.
      2) There was a US Senate report from the 1930s or so that revealed that Farmland was depleted of necessary minerals for human health.
      3) Ruminant animals feed all day trying to get the necessary nutrition from plants with ever-diminishing nitrition.
Put the two together and we have a serious problem in our food supply getting the necessary nutrients for good health.
The only conclusion is to go carnivore

Good morning doctor, my name is Pietro, a simple pensioner passionate about medicine and its most "useful" and non-medical discoveries. I am Italian from the Marche region, I have been following it for some time because I also surf the web to follow prolonged fasting after having met the good compatriot gerontologist/biologist Valter Longo about ten years ago and having studied the fascinating discovery of Nobel Prize winner Yoshinori Ōsumi on autophagy of yeasts also applied positively to animals, where significant correlations were found between defects in the autophagy process and type II diabetes, cancer and some disorders that usually appear with advanced age such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. I therefore wanted to thank you for your beautiful, passionate scientific work and for your kindness which never hurts... See you again and good work.

Inorganic arsenic is the harmful form, but sardines are low in it. Regularly eating sardines from trusted sources remains safe and provides many health benefits. Sardines are very small and young fish. They have been proven to be very safe to eat, super healthy and affordable. I eat 2-3 cans a week and I pay a little more for the really good kind (Portuguese olive oil and Portuguese tomato sauce). Can you do a show on transitioning from a carnivore diet to keto?

    • @BeefNEggs057
      @BeefNEggs057 2 місяці тому +3

Easy. You’re already in a keto diet. Just be sure you’re getting enough fat. Add fat to lean meat. If you’re eating Chuck - eat the fat with the meat. I use a slow cooker and then pour the whole think into a Pyrex casserole dish and cool it. Cut it up like meat pie. The white fat is a zero carb good snack if you are starving. MCT oil can be added to boost ketones. Butter in your coffee. Basically add more fat until your poo gets too soft. Then back off a bit. Your fat threshold can be built up over time. Ketones will go up with more dietary fat and especially mct (skips the digestive system and goes straight to blood to liver).

Great job on the Omega 3 Index!!!! Your baseline is really good to start with! Most are in the 4% range. My N=2 experiment showed without any doubt, fish and or suppliments are required on a regular weekly basis in a carnivore diet to have optimum values.
The triglyerides look a little high and I wonder if it was the MCT oil doing that??? Mine went up and the only things that I changed was adding heavy cream, coffee and MCT. So I eliminated the heavy cream and MCT during this next test period.
Currently in a butter fast. Several influencers talking about it recently, so thought I would give it a try! Will post data on it when completed!

If you 'measure' Ketones you will constantly struggle. It's ok at first but then your body adapts and the measuring becomes less reliable as you go along, for that reason. Plus, ALL methods of measurement are at best unreliable. It won't mean you are not achieving your goal. Constantly measuring is as much folly as obsessively counting calories was and is. Eat foods you know to be keto friendly and keep to reasonable portion sizes and you will be ok and you won't be worrying about every mouthful of foods you eat not 'adding up' Doing that is putting you in a very counter productive place generally and is not healthy.
By the way, I have been very successfully keto dieting for many years. This kind of stuff reminds me of when I had my first baby forty two years ago. I read in a book that you should breast feed your baby for so many minutes each side. 🙄 The Midwife arrived and I was feeding the baby with a little clock on the table in front of me 😂
