Just been diagnosed with 4th stage breast cancer. Starting this today and than 18/6 IF for 90 days. Will do the 3 day sardines once a month. Also taking vitemins and 1.5 ivermectin per day. Hope to be free of cancer after this.
I’ve struggled for the last year getting into ketosis. 12 hours on the sardine challenge, and my ketones we at .9. At 24 hours, they were 1.8!!! My fasting glucose was 81!!! Thank you for sharing this great boost that I really needed.
That is wonderful! I have not been able to get my ketons higher than 0.5. So I am doing the 72 hr sardine fast just now and i an in the first 4 hours, so two more days to go. I am also in a weight loss stall and hope this will break the stall.
I wasn’t getting my ketones above .7. I did a 5 day egg fast and day five morning glucose was 66, ketones 1.2, dr boz ratio 55, lost 4.2 lbs. working my way to try a sardine, and sardine fast. Thank for your information, makes me want to try. 😊. Ketones today 2.1, glucose 71! Having sardines pan fried in butter most nights by 5:30 pm is helping!!
I happen to love sardines. Ironically my love of sardines started when I was pregnant with my 27 Year old daughter. I loved them with pinto beans and ate them two or times a week. My daughter was reading books at three. Knew her ABCs before two. Her nickname in highschool was the walking dictionary, and she got the highest academic scholarship offer from a top university and graduated on the Dean's list with two degrees. Me I barely graduated from high school with a gpa of two or less. Her dad's not that bright either. I've always wondered how she got so smart because I sometimes needs a dictionary to talk to her, maybe it was the sardines 🤔
Mica Onyx, it was definitely the sardines you were eating, I didn't do that when I was having my children, I learned it long after they were born, I told someone about it, she said it was nonsense, she tried it, , and it worked like magic. Blessings
@@msparamin3285 yeah I totally agree. Honestly God didn't give with both hands in the IQ department on either side of her family so I'm thinking it was the sardines. I can't pay her to eat them now though 🤣🤣
Fresh sardines are even better than tinned ones. Here in England they are seasonal, caught off the coast of Cornwall and you can’t beat them! We cook them in an air fryer as that avoids the fishy smell when frying in a pan. Delicious with chopped coriander (cilantro) and lemon.
I went from never eating a sardine before to doing this 3-day challenge. My two big takeaways were: (1) I actually like sardines! (2) I was able to achieve a "high therapeutic" level of ketosis, according to my GKI. I will definitely be incorporating a 3-day sardine fast into my life on a regular basis....probably twice a month. 😀
I ate only canned sardines for a couple of days after we lost power during last week’s ice storm. I decided I need mustard on them next time. I like sardines, but it killed my appetite eating that alone.
Thanks for this and your other videos. I want to share my late grand dad's sardine dip. I still enjoy making it. Mix one block cream cheese, approx 8 Oz, add drained can sardines (sometimes I put in 2 cans), add approx teaspoon Dijon mustard and a few shakes of worcestershire sauce, mix and adjust seasonings. Enjoy!
My hip was destroyed (I have since had a replacement) due to a birth defect. Fasting was the only time the pain was tolerable but you can only fast so much.
Have you tried carnivore diet? Alot of people say their pains go away, this way your not starving yourself. Well at least try it out and see how you feel.
I am Egyptian. I was born in Alexandria. I was growing on eating Sardines for the most days of week. I am Sardine lover. I usually my Cardine canes on the stove using Olive oil and sometimes butter. I did that since i was kid. thank you forr your programme. Eat good, stay healty. thank you again.
I had a can of mackerel and a can of sardines together, crisped up in the pan. I washed the olive oil off and added butter and a little garlic salt. It was so good, I didn’t want it to be gone! My 72 hr. Will end tomorrow at 10 am. Ketones went from 0.4 to 0.5, and glucose from 104 to 87 (fasting). I’m probably gonna do this fast for 8 weeks, per Dr. Boz. Thank you Anita for your great videos. Your cooking demos are incredibly good. Thankful for you.
The bones in tinned sardines, pilchards and other tinned fish contains _so much_ goodness (minerals and trace elements) that it is mad to buy boneless (or to pick out the bones, as some people do). The bones in tinned fish are soft and entirely edible. Same applies to the sardine skin to some extent.
I have removed mine because I prefer the clean taste of them. I take out anything in the middle and have for decades. People who don't are savages lol 😂😂
@@BeStill66 :GRINS: I have to agree. Altho' I know the dietary benefits of the bones are excellent I find the texture of them destroys any enjoyment I get from eating the fish!
This is an awesome video, Anita. I did my 2nd sardine challenge and could only make it 2 days this time. I think I need more than 4 days between the sardine challenges. I have broken my stall between these 2 challenges and I feel this was key to breaking that stall. My opinion on doing the sardine challenge vs an egg fast is that the influx of omega 3s is better for inflammation using the sardines vs eggs or bacon. I have major inflammation and I haven't ever felt better than when incorporating sardines. I am going to attempt the sardine challenge again and spread the challenge out every "other" week instead of every week. You are an inspiration to those of us that are struggling. Thank you, Anita.
That's my reason as well! My knee feels so much better after 3 days of sardines only as much as I love bacon and eggs! I'm so glad you are joining and doing this too!
@@KetogenicWoman Thank YOU so much for this Challenge & Video on Sardines. 😍 I like to eat them any which way, but not sure if I can do it everyday. 😅 I'm glad your Facebook friend suggested frying them, I had not thought about that. I'm going to buy the Oval red can they sell at Walmart and other markets locally in South Florida... they bring much larger sardines about 4 to a can, but I'm going to fry them in bacon grease. I'm pretty sure that will make their skin nice and crispy. 😊🙏 ...Plus enhance the flavor a bit. Maybe I'll lay them over a couple leaves of lettuce, or spinach. I am trying to do Carnivore, but find myself slipping a little bit and going into Ketovore. 😉🎯 It's all good, the fact that I'll be losing weight a little slower doesn't bother me. I started two and a half weeks ago, and lost 10 lb already. Yaay! 🙌💖👏👏👏 I ran across your Channel, once before prior to the sardines so I will be following along with your journey. Thank you so much! 💖🙌 Ohhh, I will be turning 61 years young this April. 😁
I'm with you, Anita. I'm 72 years old and suddenly noticed a skin thinning problem. I intend to do something about it! I got rid of the inflammation that caused the doctor to diagnose arthritis and the type 2 diabetes is in complete control. Now it's time to get my skin in shape. I've been doing sardines long enough to get to the point where I can stand them. So it's clear sailing ⛵️ from now on. I intend to do sardines for once a week, and the 72 hour challenge once a month 😊. Thanks for the inspiration 🙏 ❤❤🎉
Been eating Brunswick sardines for longer than I can remember and I'm 76. A friend's Mom worked there and took her to her work. All the workers wore Wellis. As the tide rose the water came up between the warehouse floor-boards and washed all the guts away.
I set a goal for the month of November to learn to enjoy eating sardines, not just tolerate them. I had sardines more than 20 times that month and it worked. I now eat them at least twice a week and will make your dressing tomorrow!
After a major body and brain injury..I refused to consume anything but water, black coffee and sardines...lololol.. After a few weeks I allowed blueberries, cranberry juice, full fat coconut milk .... Thanks for doing this! It is a bizarre thing for many - sardines only for three days…I have had the privilege of helping Dr Boz coach students enrolled in her 21 Day Metabolic Kick Course. Witnessing people go through this challenge, where their blood glucose and blood ketones change in amazing ways, is a humbling experience! Wishing you continued success!
How often in a month does Dr Boz suggest doing the Sardine Challenge? I did watch her videos on this, but I do not think she ever said. I know in her group a 72 hour water fast followed a few days later from what I could tell from her graphs. Thanks Karen!
I was amazed at my numbers! I had waking glucose of 94 mg/dl the day before and .4 mmlo/L ketones. One day of sardines and I had 77mg/dl waking glucose and 1.5 ketones! I have never had that good of numbers before. I thank you for helping me be brave and give it a try. I discovered I like sardines and to me smoked mackeral tastes better than tuna! I had seen Dr Boz talking about it, but watching your channel gave me the motivation to try!
I think we need to remember that eating the whole sardines, not the skinless and boneless, is important because it's giving us the much needed fats and minerals. These are necessary nutrients
I happened to be a sardine connoisseur. Great Value sardines packed in water are my go to. They are bigger, 4 or 5 to a can. They have a good firm texture and are priced right. 12 cans in the display cardboard box. I buy a box a week. I've tried more expensive brands, skinless, boneless, all the flavors etc and Great Value packed in water win.
If you are in the US, my link will get you 15% the Keto Mojo: bit.ly/3Zq4Jh2 What store does Great Value come from? (I'm Canadian but will be crossing the border in a couple weeks for KetoCon)
My dad taught me to like sardines when I was very little . He just opened the can and poured in a little vinegar. We then ate them on saltines. Thank you for this video. I'm new to fasting and measuring ketones. I'm mainly doing this to treat IBS symptoms but also weight control especially belly fat. It is definitely a great way to lead a more healthy life.
If you have IBS symptoms I highly recommend taking slippery elm bark powder in addition to what you are already doing. This tip is from a nat ur path from Australia. If you want her name I will send that also.
So I am in my 40s and just beginning on my “Sardine journey “! I am also incorporating fasting. I am fairly healthy but after watching Dr Boz, I really wanted to follow through with a lower carb high protein lifestyle. Just found your channel as well, and just wanted to say thank you and I found you to be very informative! God bless and stay healthy!
@ ovrcmr2228 much better than I anticipated! I really wasn’t hungry all that much because I have been doing one meal a day for quite a while now and I was surprised to notice how much sardines feel you up! Good experience overall! Actually dropped 5 lbs!
🐟Much less expensive than ribeyes if you're on a budget 😉 To anyone apprehensive - I'm the picky eater of my family, and I finally convinced myself to try them; even plain they weren't bad (I had Chicken of the Sea brand which said lightly smoked, but I couldn't taste it), but they were quite tasty when I added some Lemon Pepper seasoning!🍋Try the with any Zero Sugar/Zero Carb seasoning you like - HTH PS: Your challenge sheet looks great! My mom told me about her mom eating King Oscar sardines as a treat (the kids got tuna), and she was surprised that the company was still around.
I just found Chicken of the Sea in water has the delicate consistency of King Oscar. Less expensive and no dubious oil to worry about. I like mine with bacon fat.
Anita, I came across your channel in my feed after a Dr. Boz episode. I am 70 yo and trying to lose 80 lbs (already lost 20) that I packed on over 40 yrs of nursing and bad food choices. I admire your spunk and your achievements. Thank you so much for this episode. I appreciated the step by step commentary, the dressing recipe, the sardine/mackerel comparison (just recently tried mackerel) and your demo of frying sardines (I, too have just eaten them at room temp straight from the can for many years). I probably will try them this way now. Every so often I would just get a yen for them. I used to say my body knows what it needs. I agree with you that the skins and bones are essential. I would say that you lose about 1/3 of the nutrition without them. The same for people who take the skin off of salmon or other fish.
Thirty years ago sardines were at the top of anti-aging lists. Now hardly anyone mentions sardines! They are excellent because of the Omega 3's. I knew of a man who went on a fish diet and he got rid of his arthritis. Apparently, if you have MS and go on a fish diet then your symptoms will disappear. The other thing I want to mention is chia seeds. They are also high in omega 3's. Excellent for health also. Best wishes to everyone here! May we all find our way to excellent health!
Thank you for these videos on sardines. I’ve found them helpful. I’ve done the 72 hour challenge twice now and I’m going to repeat it every 1-2 months. It’s so easy to do. I like sardines so that’s a win!
I've done the Dr Boz sardine fast several times (I had never had sardines before in my life!) & had great results & found out that I DO like sardines! I like to heat mine in a pan with a little butter or bacon grease & lemon pepper, SO GOOD! I am planning to do another one this week as I fell off track a couple of weeks ago due to a work trip & am trying to get back in the groove of strict carnivore again (I will be traveling for work for 1 week a month, so I have already done some planning ahead for my next trip so that I will be less likely to fall off!) This sardine challenge will definitely be part of my regular regimen!
Put some turmeric on with the sea salt and freshly cracked pepper; don't forgo a squeeze of lemon after plating. As far as I'm concerned, throwing in a few baby arugula/spinach leaves wouldn't affect your fast in any way but make it healthier.
Sardine Serving Suggestion: BTW, this may sound totally weird, and would probably not qualify for the Sardine Challenge (but for eating sardines at other times, maybe?), but recently I was thinking about how pre-keto, I used to love to eat sardines with saltines (topped with Colman's English Mustard) and one of my fave things was after eating the fish (topped on the saltines), I would break up saltines in the olive oil left in the can afterward (that I generally don't drain) and let those crumbs absorb the oil and eat them (leaving no oil left in the can). Now obviously, with keto, the saltines are a no-go, but relatedly I'd been trying to work Nutritional Yeast (nooch) into my diet more and one night, I randomly poured about a tablespoon into the oil left in my sardine can and it soaked up the oil just like the crushed saltines used to! So, it was a good keto-friendly substitute for my old way of eating! Hoorah! Obviously the Nutritional Yeast has a stronger umami flavor than plain saltines and isn't for everyone, but I personally really like that bonus nutritional benefit to eating my sardines now. Yes, there's some negligible carbs in the nooch depending on the brand (I use Thrive Market, which gives me about 1 carb per TBSP), so it won't be for everyone, but putting it out there nontheless. 😃
So....in checking if Nutritional Yeast is okay for carnivores, I found some people strongly recommending against it. So, maybe not a good idea after all. Oh well. Back to the drawing board.
I put nutritional yeast on everything! My eggs, broccoli, green beans, taco, you name it. I add some seasoning blends and red pepper flake to the can of nutritional yeast. My favorite is sour cream, Cajun seasoning, and. nutritional yeast. I make a dip and eat it with mini peppers.
This is really funny! I thought I was the only one who did the Sardine cracker mustard and left over oil with crackers. I DO THIS TOO!:) BTW, I think all this keto stuff is BS. I eat what I want!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for this video. I had seen Dr Boz's video but yours convinced me to try the sardine fast, for the omega 3s and inflammation damping. It worked so well! Joint pain and swelling gone, carb cravings gone, and crazy energy and mood. I had to eat them with salad leaves and your dressing--don't like sardine lol--and the last day I just water fasted. So grateful for your brilliant video!!
19:16 I prefer skin on/bone in sardines as well. Some say they’re more nutritious because of the cartilage but I just enjoy the taste and texture compared to boneless/boneless. Thanks Anita 🙏🏼
Ok, i just had my 1st can of sardines, King Oscar boneless/skinless and I was shocked that I loved them plain out of the can, drained. Are bones and skin on really better????
Just made your sauce and used it. I had a hard time eating sardines at first but am adjusting! Your sauce makes all the difference for the better. Please keep coming up with new ways to fix sardines. Thanks
Hi all, I've had leg cramps and my doctor told me to drink one cup of tonic water once a day and when I wake up in a really bad cramp I put a tablespoon of mustard in my mouth and follow with warm water, works really fast for me and good for gas too!
@@marshabowlin1757 you can try something similar with eggs. Eat them any way you wish, just not mixed with cheese, etc. I fry in butter or eat boiled with a dab of mayo.
I have had sardines in my pantry for some time…never had the courage to try them until today! This recipe is delicious! I will make them again. Thank you so much!
I liked them with Dijon mustard. I also used soy sauce every other time. Otherwise, my blood sugar dropped from running 230! To 133!!! I am now on my fourth day. I will continue to see how much I can bring my blood sugars down. Also I had been having trouble with raising my ketones, but there is progress from 0.1, 0.3, 0,7 and now 1.1!!! So this is working for me, I am a type II diabetic with a high insulin resistance and have had trouble losing weight. I check that tomorrow after 5 days on the sardine fast.
A slight word of warning to anyone who isn't diabetic and wanting to do this challenge more for ketone ellevation as I did. I've had to stop my challenge today after 48hrs due to my blood sugar dropping too low. I feel amazing and have no symptoms of hypoglycemia, but feel it irresponsible to continue...my BS at the start of this was 4.0mmol/L and this morning is 2.9mmol/L. I'm delighted with my ketone level as that's gone up from 0.3 to 1.4 so I'm thrilled with that. Now back to carnivore but have enjoyed this challenge....Thank You 👍
I've just had my first meal with the sardines and your dressing over a green salad--not the challenge strictly speaking but it's bringing me to the table 😄 I am experienced with keto and IF for health recovery but slid into the carbs during my recent holiday--so am really keen to have a cravings and inflammation reset. Thanks for the great video!
That’s how I plan to do SF , along with salads and maybe a fruit at dinner. I want to sleep well and when I cut out carbs completely my sleep suffers terribly. Let me know how you did!❤
Just finished the 72 hour challenge yesterday 🎉 on the last night I had leg cramps something terrible but fixed with some electrolytes. I couldn’t believe how much energy I had the first day. Second day I was a little tired. Today I’m definitely feeling great and the beef I ate last night was delicious!
I have leg cramps because of hyperthyroidism and possibly a recent parathyroid problem. Eek ... Depends if it's pushing calcium or phosphorus in my blood levels. No, it's not healthy, but neither is radioactive iodine.
So far, I think the sardine fast is helping me to not over eat as I feel satisfied after one can of sardines. I pour off the oil in the can an pour in my own EV Olive oil, some Tabasco and pepper and I am satisfied 😊
OMGoodness Anita! That sauce is the best. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I made 2 batches, one with yellow mustard, which I LOVE, and one with whole grain mustard. Whole grain was the tastiest. Next time I will try red vinegar. Love sardines but this sauce is next level. THANK YOU.
I love sardines so much that I find this fast quite easy. One thing I've learned that it's MUCH easier to just broil them in the oven. It takes a lot longer than over the stove top fry but avoiding having sardine oil all over the kitchen and the skin on is waaaaaay better when fried than the skinless.
just fried up 2 cans of boneless skinless sardines with a bit of butter, as Anita did and put a little of her dressing on top... YUM. I have never even bought sardines let alone eaten them before but God's truth for you if you are afraid of eating these little fishes, just try them :). I will fry up next the bone in/skin on. thanks Anita for introducing me to this food!
“Ketogenic Woman”, I also suffer from leg cramps. I just discovered the cause: it's potassium deficiency. So I purchased a high potency potassium supplement from Amazon (I am not affiliated with Amazon). There are 240 tablets of 1,020 mg per tablet (21% of the daily value). Since I started taking 2 pills a day, I haven't had leg cramps at night or in the morning when I accidentally do a stretch before getting out of bed. Also, I lost 24 lbs in the last 14 months, and my A1c is 5.6 by eating meat, eggs, nuts, and low carbohydrates vegetables, like spinach, kale, broccoli, etc. My breakfast is egg omelet with spinach, sour cream, grated cheese and 3 strips of bacon.
I usually add cayenne just to give it a bit of a punch. On occasion I added finely cut dill pickles and finely cut onions. Your dressing is allmost like a home made mayo. When and were I grew up there was no mayo in stores. We always made our own mayo. I've never tried to fry them, I will give it a try.
For anyone put off by sardines bc of fear of never having had them, I was that way too. I was surprised and relieved to know that they are very similar in taste to salmon!😃 (They do not taste like tuna)
my mother used to feed sardines to us as babies and toddlers, we never had sugar until after 12 years old, I did the same thing with my two kids, sardines when i was done breast feeding and it was harder in my time to keep the sugar aways since the "other" grandma was a sugar addict, feeding them crap. It was no use telling her to stop. Either way, at least they got half the family eating good and organic meats and keto : ) now they make good choices nearing their 40s : )
I was born in Germany after the war. We ate lots of sardines and boiled potatoes. I loved drinking the cod liver oil. My baby sis on in USA had the same and I gave sardines and PolyViSol drops to my babies. They rarely caught a cold or flu .

You were so thorough with your information Anita thank you. The amount of work you had to put into. This was incredible. Thank you for doing all the hard work for us to make it easy.
My question is simply: how does a scale know how to break down your fat percentage vs muscle, bone, organs? That was smart to do your fast right after the challenge! Congrats! I put my sardines in the air fryer with a small drizzle of olive oil (they don't need much) and it fried pretty well without major splatters.
Biometric Impedence analysis: The scale uses a safe and minimal electrical current that flows through the body from the base of the scale. Essentially, the electric current flows through the body water, fat, and bone muscle mass at various speeds and the scale measures this speed to calculate how your body is composed of these elements
OK, this one I looked into because I was curious. Basically, it sends an electronic frequency pulse through the metal pads. Water, protein, fat, and bone conduct electricity with different resistance. Isolating the frequency allows an algorithm to create an estimate. The better systems require you to hold something it does the same for the upper body. (I've only seen this for Japanese systems. ) The limitations are that electronic current takes the shortest path. Visceral fat is estimated based on a correlated data set. Something I learned by extensive fasting is your blood sugar forces your body to hold onto water. My weight fluctuates as much a 2kgs while my body consumes or absorbs glycogen and sugar while going into and out of a fastened state.
I have never had a sardine in my 61 yr old life. I love fish though. I eat very low carb, follow Dr Boz and Dr. Mindy. I did Mindy’s 72 hour water fast (with one LMNT /day ) at the beginning of the year and it was great. When I first started Keto a couple years ago my muscles ached. Actually, my entire body ached. I could not even lift a horse feed bag and had to empty half of it first. I felt awful. I added salt and felt better. For the last year I add one LMNT to my first water everyday after my walk. Love LMNT. My favorite is the watermelon salt. It’s made a huge difference in how I feel. I think I’ll buy a can of sardines for a meal before I dive in. I’ve lost all my weight thanks to a low carb and IF lifestyle but I need to be more fit so I’m joining a facility this week where I can swim laps. Maybe the sardines will help me swim faster. 😂 Thanks for your videos.
Just started the challenge today! Frying the skin on sardines and adding the sauce on the skinless really elevated the fish. And I love sardines! thanks so much for the ideas...you recopies NEVER steer me wrong!
Anita, you have inspired me to give this a try. I can’t thank you enough for the the knowledge, recipes, experiences and experiments that you share and also the fact that you incorporate answers to our questions and provide videos based and your viewers requests!! I just ordered a 12 pack of sardines off Amazon and I’ll see what my local store has as well. A little over a year ago I was making all your variations of protein sparing bread (the cranberry loaf was my favorite) ❤ and now I’ll be eating sardines for 3 days😂
I know right!? I feel like I've cut way back on everything but the very basics to try to get somewhere and I feel really good! Trying to keep it simple now!
Dollar tree has a lot of sardines and they're all good tasting The ones Just in water are probably much better for you because the oil they use will not be good real helpful olive oil but instead fake cheap low quality commercial
Thank you for all the info in this vide, Anita. And I’m soooo excited for you that you are incorporating consistent exercise on your journey! You are going to be amazed how this impacts your health and fat loss journey!
Hi Anita, Great information as usual. I don’t do the sardine challenge but eat one can of sardines daily. I am one of those people who likes them on their own as well as with butter. So good to see you are noticing results from it!
Excellent experimentchallenge! I found this incredibly informative. I love that I can eat sardines and get the same macros of a ribeye; so much more cost effective.
No doubt. Ribeyes along with eggs are getting crazy expensive in Southern California. Gas, energy, bacon and everything else as well. Care to swap Biden for Trudeau 😂
In an emergency, when the leg cramps come on, a quick fix is to just use the LMNT electrolyte powder and drink it down. It takes longer than what I do. I just sprinkle some salt in my palm and down it with some water. It will kick those cramps in 60 secs. For me. ❤
@@KetogenicWoman I know what you mean! 😂 I usually just take a few sips to wash down the salt and it works, but the LMNT has the nutrients the body needs to avoid getting the cramps in the first place! Haha So, I started drinking some through the day and it really helps, then I don’t have to drink anything too close to bedtime and get up during the night. Aging bladders unite! 😜
Phenomenal Anita! I was waiting for this one! I will definitely join you next round. You are looking fantastic. Tried your Sardine Bites made in the air fryer. There were like eating hushpuppies. I rolled mine in the crushed pork skins for extra crispiness before air frying . I ate them with room temp butter, like you would a hushpuppy. You have got to try this.
BumbleBee brand also makes canned smoke trout. I get it at Walmart and it is the most amazing stuff! It’s salty and smoky and tender. If you’re tired of sardines and don’t want to cook fish, it’s a great change! ❤ And if you aren’t too die hard carnie, sardines with jalapeños! Sooo good! And smoked kippers. I love a good can of King Oscar brand smoked kippers.
I'd rather cook a nice big chunk of wild caught Sockeye, but to each their own. I just did 3 days of salmon only OMAD and I feel great. Day 4 today and I had a big salad with a tin of smoked oysters added. Very satisfying and it still keto plus packs in the omega 3s. Four years ago I could not walk to the store one block from my house without using a cane. Now I'm 50 pounds lighter and walk over 2 kilometers into town and back without issue. Seafood is king. Vegans are totally missing the boat.
@@KetogenicWoman Not just adding more seafood but using it to replace other things. I used to snack on bakery treats but switched to herring snacks and smoked oysters. The omega 3s really helped my bad knees and the weight loss was just a bonus. A diet heavy in seafood is a big part of what made my Viking ancestors so strong. Oh and I'm really liking your channel. Going to check out your Meat Bread video next. Keep up the good work.
I eat a tin of sardines in olive oil almost every day for lunch, doused heavily with tobasco. Mix it up well with the olive oil and eat it all. delicious. I have also gotten the sardines in tomato sauce. with an avocado also doused with salt/pepper/tobasco.
After some strenuous hiking, I went to bed about an hour later I had severe leg cramps . I had been told that if I just get a small mouthful of vinegar swished it for 30 to 60 seconds then spit it out I found that my cramps went away or were greatly reduced in a short period of time it was great
Wild planet makes some really good canned white anchovies that are a bit more mild than sardines (and NOT brined, lol). I would think those would be ok to substitute or rotate in 🤗
I'm ending a total 72-hour fast today, and I'm excited to switch over to a 72-hour sardine fast, but rather than do one right away, for the first time I'm going to modify it by including Keto-friendly wraps, avocados, aged gouda, clover and broccoli sprouts, hummus, a Keto-friendly IQ Bar (six brain nutrients!), unsweetened Kefir, possibly some lean turkey and/or turkey jerky and other healthy "stuff". Fortunately, I love sardines, so it won't a challenge in that sense, but I'm thinking for the first time it might be too abrupt a switch from no food to just sardines. That's something that I can and will phase in going forward. I liked and subscribed, and by the way, I'm a guy, Keto Woman, so please keep in mind that not all of your viewers are ladies (I bring that up because the way you spoke it sounded as though they're the only ones who follow your channel). Yet everyone can benefit from your videos. Also, I think cat owners need to be careful, because they'll have furry friends who would also love to take the challenge! 🐱😺
King Oscar...my personal favorite currently. The last sardines I purchased were Trader Joe's packed in water. I belched sardines badly. So if I consume them packed in water, it has to be another brand. Best wishes everyone.
My doctor said if you work out and then have leg cramps it’s low Potassium. If you are just resting and have aching legs it’s low magnesium. Hope this helps. I have to take prescription potassium daily and have for years. Also had to have intravenous potassium twice at the hospital. Never again!
Don't understand why lmt electrolytes are recommended I understand potassium must be way more than sodium most electrolytes do not seem to have enough potassium
yep. i'm inching closer and closer to eating sardines. it's time to pull my tins down from the pantry and at least test the water. they're normally in the pantry in case of a hurricane but perhaps i'll liberate them. thanks for normalizing sardines in the diet. i think the sardine dressing will be very helpful for me, so glad you included that.
I just made your dressing for the sardines, love it! I love sardines anyway but this made them better! Thank you! Watching many of your videos❤...from Stuart, FL.
Thank you for such a great video, full of info and suggestions and the questions you read were exactly the ones I had in mind, so that was so helpful. Plus, I just loved the tins being tossed into the recycle bin. I really appreciate you vibe, content, and entertainment value.
For leg cramps at bedtime, put a bar of soap at the bottom of your bed underneath the fitted sheet. My wife has been doing this for the last three years and only had one cramp. We were skeptical at first, but it really worked. I hope it works for you.
Thank you for all the work you do to share all this info with us, and thanks to your videographer and editor too; you both do a great job! You are very encouraging 💗
Great video. Thanks so much for the cheat sheet. I tried the 3 day fast with you the first time but could only get through 2 days! I need to try again. The sauce looks great and will help! Thank you Anita!

I’ve struggled for the last year getting into ketosis. 12 hours on the sardine challenge, and my ketones we at .9. At 24 hours, they were 1.8!!! My fasting glucose was 81!!! Thank you for sharing this great boost that I really needed.
I am thrilled for you!
That is wonderful! I have not been able to get my ketons higher than 0.5. So I am doing the 72 hr sardine fast just now and i an in the first 4 hours, so two more days to go. I am also in a weight loss stall and hope this will break the stall.
First 24 hours! My number 2 key gets stuck if I don’t press it harder. 🤷🏼♀️
@Kristy K sounds better than sardines...
Those omega 3's are good stuff!
Sure, my gr.father told us "fish is brain food"
Mica Onyx, it was definitely the sardines you were eating, I didn't do that when I was having my children, I learned it long after they were born, I told someone about it, she said it was nonsense, she tried it, , and it worked like magic. Blessings

Yum, never been around fresh sardines in our neck of the woods but would definitely look for them as we travel.
Nice
Grew up eating this too in my beloved England- not so much in the states but just started on day 2 today and success
Will frozen be good too?
@@d_manoil1647 Yes, absolutely. Defrost before cooking.

Are you calling the spine the bones? Are there bones other than the spine? I have always removed the spine. Don't really know why? It looks crunchy.
I have removed mine because I prefer the clean taste of them. I take out anything in the middle and have for decades. People who don't are savages lol 😂😂

I really LOVE salmon skin, so good! Thank you for your comments!
Many fishes have them but sardines have too much omega 6 i think. Better use salmon or even tuna.
The bigger the fish the more mercury they collect. Omega 6 that are not rancid are not the problem. Please stick with sardines 🐟🐟🐟

That is wonderful!
Laura Spath does lots of traveling for her job and shares many videos of what she takes on her trips and how she survives on the road.
Sardines are easy to pack; I brought 15 cans home from Paris last October.
Put some turmeric on with the sea salt and freshly cracked pepper; don't forgo a squeeze of lemon after plating. As far as I'm concerned, throwing in a few baby arugula/spinach leaves wouldn't affect your fast in any way but make it healthier.
Hot sauce, mustard, garlic powder, lemon and dill, or a little horseradish may help make more palatable depending on your mood.
I do use it on occasion when I want a cheesy taste without the cheese! A small amount goes a long way!
Yum 😋 love ny mixed with butter for high fat.
This is really funny! I thought I was the only one who did the Sardine cracker mustard and left over oil with crackers. I DO THIS TOO!:) BTW, I think all this keto stuff is BS. I eat what I want!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same! And I get panic attacks if I do not have carbs. @@burymebelowawillowtree9243
Anita, thank you for doing this video. I am considering trying sardines. By the way you look absolutely amazing. All your hard work is paying off.
Thank you! 💗
I got leg cramps on this 3 day challenge as well, my ketones went way up though.
Legs cramps are a sign/warning that you are calcium deficient. Check that you are getting 1500mg calcium daily. I know from first hand experience.❤
I have leg cramps because of hyperthyroidism and possibly a recent parathyroid problem. Eek ... Depends if it's pushing calcium or phosphorus in my blood levels. No, it's not healthy, but neither is radioactive iodine.
@@irritatedkitty7301 I’ve been hearing about people taking daily iodine drops. Do you know if they are safe?
😊😅😅
I use my IKEA white bowl to mix the sardines. I add ACV, olive oil, MCT oil, Celtic sea salt and black pepper. Yum
THANK YOU.
Womderful!
I think that's my new favorite way to have sardines now!
Glad you figured out what works best for you!
Veal, chicken and lamb liver helped my leg pains.
What brand you use
Lost my allergic problems I had more than 10 month during the challenge, awesome. I need only 6 cans - 1 for lunch, 1 for dinner.
Salmon eh? Are you eating your cat's food?
my mother used to feed sardines to us as babies and toddlers, we never had sugar until after 12 years old, I did the same thing with my two kids, sardines when i was done breast feeding and it was harder in my time to keep the sugar aways since the "other" grandma was a sugar addict, feeding them crap.
They rarely caught a cold or flu

so happy for you, love Dr. Boz and smoked sardines from Latvia beautifully packed!
You were so thorough with your information Anita thank you. The amount of work you had to put into. This was incredible. Thank you for doing all the hard work for us to make it easy.
Glad it was helpful!
@@KetogenicWoman woah! Thanks so much for that information :)
(I've only seen this for Japanese systems. )
The limitations are that electronic current takes the shortest path.
Visceral fat is estimated based on a correlated data set.
Something I learned by extensive fasting is your blood sugar forces your body to hold onto water. My weight fluctuates as much a 2kgs while my body consumes or absorbs glycogen and sugar while going into and out of a fastened state.
@@AdrianvanWijk wow! :) Thank you for that reply!
I’m in Texas. Wish I could go😢.
Hope u have a great time ❤
I have never had a sardine in my 61 yr old life. 😂
Thanks for your videos.
Thanks for sharing your story!
Rose, when you did the 72 hour fast ala Dr Mindy, did you use flavored or unflavored elements?
*LMNT packets?
@@gaillucas9077 I used unflavored LMNT during my fast with Mindy.
those are horrible for you, they use chlorides, which are bad for the liver. My gut always got wrecked from drinking those..
Very informative. Thank you for taking the time to explain how the challenge works. You inspire me.
I made the air fryer sardines this morning and had them for lunch with a little sour cream. So good!
Just started the challenge today! Frying the skin on sardines and adding the sauce on the skinless really elevated the fish. And I love sardines! thanks so much for the ideas...you recopies NEVER steer me wrong!
Glad you enjoyed!
Can you Air Fry Sardines?
@@tx.beekeepinglady5274 you sure can. I pan fried them with a little bacon fat. Delicious!
Dollar tree has a lot of sardines and they're all good tasting
The ones Just in water are probably much better for you because the oil they use will not be good real helpful olive oil but instead fake cheap low quality commercial
Thank you for all the info in this vide, Anita. And I’m soooo excited for you that you are incorporating consistent exercise on your journey! You are going to be amazed how this impacts your health and fat loss journey!
I'm excited as well! Thank you!
Hi Anita,
Great information as usual. I don’t do the sardine challenge but eat one can of sardines daily. I am one of those people who likes them on their own as well as with butter. So good to see you are noticing results from it!
I love sardines. Didn’t know you could cook them. I’m a out the can kinda girl.
Love the cute "fish" plate! Made me smile. I love that you bought it special for this challenge. :)
Don't you mean King Newsom? ; )
Governor Gruesome
Great video I am encouraged to try this sardine challenge after watching this!
In an emergency, when the leg cramps come on, a quick fix is to just use the LMNT electrolyte powder and drink it down. It takes longer than what I do. I just sprinkle some salt in my palm and down it with some water. It will kick those cramps in 60 secs. For me. ❤
😱 wow! Although drinking at night is never a good idea for me and my aging bladder, lol!
@@KetogenicWoman I know what you mean! 😂
I usually just take a few sips to wash down the salt and it works, but the LMNT has the nutrients the body needs to avoid getting the cramps in the first place! Haha
So, I started drinking some through the day and it really helps, then I don’t have to drink anything too close to bedtime and get up during the night. Aging bladders unite! 😜
This is the Best most informative, helpful, thorough video I have seen in a long time, you excel at what you do.
This really helps those of us struggling and nothing seems to work to kick us into ketosis.
Glad you like them, I'll try that!
Crushed pork rinds as a coating for the sardines…nice! Definitely will give it a try
@@reggiedunlop2222 I also used bacon mayonnaise too in my recipe and somehow this provided a really noticeable and nice balance to the sardines!
Great Day 4 idea! 👍🏼
These are great alternatives for variety!
Thanks🎉
I love trout!
@@macthebloody4214 Awesome results! I think that adding in more seafood in general is a game changer!
SMASH !
S- Salmon
M- Mackrel

In order of nutrient density. All are still better than anything else
I eat a tin of sardines in olive oil almost every day for lunch, doused heavily with tobasco. Mix it up well with the olive oil and eat it all. delicious. I have also gotten the sardines in tomato sauce. with an avocado also doused with salt/pepper/tobasco.
awesome!
Thanks for sharing your experience on the sardine challenge and the great ideas! Absolutely love your little sardine plate! 😊🐟
Me too, it's silly but it makes me happy! 😂
I would think those would be ok to substitute or rotate in 🤗
What a great video. I have had sardines in my cabinet for a long time and never seem to get around to them. No more! Thank you.
Brunswick Golden Smoked forever!
King Oscar...my personal favorite currently. The last sardines I purchased were Trader Joe's packed in water. I belched sardines badly. So if I consume them packed in water, it has to be another brand. Best wishes everyone.
Just bought six tins of the Trader Joe’s in water. I had never had a sardine I didn’t like until I tried these. Love the King Oscar and Wild Planet.
My doctor said if you work out and then have leg cramps it’s low Potassium.
If you are just resting and have aching legs it’s low magnesium. Hope this helps.
I have to take prescription potassium daily and have for years. Also had to have intravenous potassium twice at the hospital. Never again!
What is the difference between prescription potassium and nonprescription potassium?
@@njsongwriter I’m really not sure. My doctor wants me on prescription. So I take it to avoid major leg discomfort!
It helped me survive the 3 days!

Good work, Anita. I can’t wait to start this as soon as I go shopping for my sardines later today. You are beautiful and very appreciated ❣️
For leg cramps at bedtime, put a bar of soap at the bottom of your bed underneath the fitted sheet. My wife has been doing this for the last three years and only had one cramp. We were skeptical at first, but it really worked. I hope it works for you.
Never heard of this but I will try it for myself
