Finally someone reacted to this song! This song came out in 1982 with no fanfare and was destined to never be heard again until a disc jockey accidentally played the wrong side of a record on the radio in 1989 and this was the song. The phone lines lit up and from that day on the song climbed the charts finally reaching #1. It is the only #1 hit by a band that had broken up a long time ago. After the song reached number one, the record company tried to get the band back together but they couldn't get along so that never did.
Maybe not in the States but it was huge in Canada in 1983 It hit #1 on CKLW. Freddy Curci and guitarist Steve DeMarchi formed Alias after they failed to get the band back together as two members had already formed a duo Frozen Ghost and were not interested
Sheriff was the BEST band, MY ULTIMATE FAVORITE!! 😍 "When I'm With You" is my VERY favorite song of ALL AND EVERY song ever sung or just plain instrumental music!! Freddie Curci was absolutely so GORGEOUS and HANDSOME, I had the BIGGEST crush on him!! 😍
The note at the end was recorded as 19.3 seconds long. Great Canadian band...Freddy the lead singer then went on to sing for the band Alias..who had a hit with More Than Words Can Say
Brings back lots of memories. Every high school dance had 3-4 breaks where they played slow songs/ballads. It was an opportunity to slow dance for couples & this was always one of those songs they played.
As well as emotional tears when remembering First Found and then Lost Love. I cry as my heart sings all the way through this song because what I felt was not reciprocated or long lasting. Back then I felt hope, contentment, and happily ever after when I heard this song; now I feel regret for living in a fantasy of unconditional love and immaturity. Unfortunately when you are young and apply a song like this to a person in your life, the memories stick and emotions flow from the recesses of your mind bringing back the pleasure and the pain. It’s poetry in motion and I still love this song.
My wife (then girlfriend) and I saw Sheriff in concert in Nova Scotia in 1983 I believe. He really is able to hold that high note for that long; it was amazing.
That song! I haven't heard it in so long. I was 17 and absolutely in love for the first time and this was our song. Wherever we were if that song came on we slow danced to it. It just brought back a flood of memories for me. Thanks guys!
Lead singer Freddie Curci also sang lead on the #1 hit “More Than Words Can Say” by Alias. Another killer vocal performance. This song was on an American Top 40 record show for longest note held, so you’re right.
This is definitely a song I’d forgotten about. I love this song! I never knew the name of the group until now.Thank you Beth for recommending this to Sean and Mel!!!
When this song was first released in the early 1980's it didn't chart high and the group went back to their delivery service jobs. When it was re-released in 1988 it went all the way to #1. No one could believe that these guys with the current #1 hit were delivering packages to people's doors.
I remember when this came out. I was 9 years old. It seems like yesterday. The day I first heard it on the radio, in my dad's 1977 Grand Prix, the DJ introducing them, saying this is their latest. As I was listening to it, man I was hit hard emotionally! Like I was only 9, this song touched my heart so hard and his vocals blew me away! Then when my dad and I got back from where ever we went, I remember laying on the family room floor just singing the song loudly, I only knew a bit of the chorus cz it was the first day heard it... Love it. This will never get old. Beautiful beautiful song ❤️ 🎶🎵 Being a Torontonian, born and raised, I am proud of this CANADIAN BAND 🇨🇦 YES! Early childhood music memories 👧🏽🩷
Some years ago, I was listening to the radio and this came on. At the end of the song with the high note, the djs had some fun and played a sound effect of windows shattering. I could hear them laughing in the background. LOL
Amazing song! Happens to exactly be my wife and I’s song. From dating to married played at our wedding. Thank you for reacting to this! Keep up the great work!
This song ........ WOW my very best female friend loved it in the 80s and I always loved it too we were in middle school. Just lil babies enjoying great music on the radio. If I ever get married (again) I wanna have that song played for me and my sweetheart !! I can only wish. This channel is so much fun!! 😊
Lol I saw them on this tour when I was in junior high. Free concert, Gloucester (Ontario) Fair, c. 1983. Ah the good old days! (Yes, he pulled off all the notes live.)
YES! Thank you guys for reacting to this and thanks to Beth Mitchell for suggesting it! This was IMO One of the most overlooked, but one of the BEST, rock power ballads of the 80s. Funny, the song came out in 1983. It was a top-ten hit in Canada, but only a minor hit in the U.S. It did hit Number 1 in the U.S., but not until 1989, four years after Sheriff had broken up.
Awesome memories! This song is unusual in that it was on the U.S. charts twice, in 1983 and 1989; it did better in '89. I remember it first at age 19 in '83 and then at age 25 in '89. I know songs can mean different things to you at different points in your life, but not usually rereleased within six years; I have such a turmoil of emotions listening to this..but it's a good turmoil!
After they broke up, the singer and guitarist formed Alias (More Than Words Can Say) with a few founding members of Heart. These two recently reformed under the Alias name and released their long-shelved second album. ua-cam.com/video/pjhrGPFaQoQ/v-deo.html
There was a commercial that ran all during the 90's for the "Monster Ballads" CD. It closed out with the chorus of this on the blue phone number order screen. Everytime that commercial came on it would drive me nuts. It was my favorite song featured but it was the only one they didn't share the band/song name for. So it took me YEARS to track this damn song down. 🤣
Same thing happened with I've Never Been To Me by Charlene In 1977 Charlene released an album on Motown's imprint Prodigal Records that went nowhere as well as the 3 singles that all peaked in the 90's including I've Never Been To Me that peaked at 97. The album was re-released that same year with different artwork & new tracks & still nothing. The albums were abundantly found in cut out bins for 99 cents. In 1982 a Florida DJ started playing it & it took off locally. He contacted Motown & Motown President found Charlene (who had retired from music) living in England & working at a candy store. She was again signed by Motown & I've Never Been To Me went on to be an International hit peaking at #3 in the U.S. She also had a regional duet hit with Stevie Wonder called "Use To Be"
I once read that the lead singer was watching for the producer to give him a signal to end the last note but the producer got caught up in the beauty of the song and forgot.
World record of 19.3 seconds to be exact longest note held.
A true masterpiece
I've heard this song since it came out in 1982 and it gave me shivers multiple times listening to it again just now. So beautiful.
I remember this song from back in the day and it still gives me chills. Freddy's voice.....🥰

I remember when this beautiful song came out...
I remembered hearing it back in ‘89. Never even realized it was from ‘82. Lol.
When it was released in Canada, Sherriff's home country, in 1982, it did well. But, it didn't do as well in the US.
First song I dedicated to my then fiance n who I've now been married to for 40 years😁😍
This song holds the guiness world record for longest held note in a song
actually, barbra streisand holds that record...google and listen
no she does not
Gorgeous 💞
Shawn and Mel-check out the song Sad 😢 eyes by Robert John. I can’t wait for for your reaction to that one

Omg... Freddy Curci held that end note so well...
Freddy is such an underrated vocalist. This song and "More Than Words Can Say " by his other band "Alias" are two of my all time favorite ballads!
Thank you for playing the Most Beautiful song I've ever heard!
You two rock!
Absolutely beautiful!! Awesome, indeed. Amazing voice. Definitely appreciate Sheriff.
I have this song on CD and I never get tired of it. I repeat play it 3-4 times at the least. Never get tired of this song.
His voice is not human, too beautiful

Its in the guiness book of world records very smooth voice that was held so long🤩
Sheriff was the BEST band, MY ULTIMATE FAVORITE!! 😍 "When I'm With You" is my VERY favorite song of ALL AND EVERY song ever sung or just plain instrumental music!!

Shame Freddy never achieved big success

Freddie made a record with that note. Freddie Curci had a marvelous voice
If I ever find a man to love me after all these years and whom I shall love with all my life, I will dedicate this masterpiece to him for all my days.
It is a record he's in the Guinness world book of records for longest note held
This was the first love of my life's favorite song.....in 1984....in Canada......
At the time of this song he held the World Record for the longest held note. CANUCKS RULE!!!!
Yesssss….now y’all have to do “Angel Eyes” by Jeff Healey Band and that note was a record 19 seconds!!!!! Beautiful
Hell Yes!!!!!!! That is my all time favorite song 😱

That voice & that harmony will give anyone chills.
To add a 3rd aspect- he was nice to look at also !

oh my god i just dedicates this song to a love that i lost two months ago my heart is broken now 😢😢
Nothing comes close to this song. It’s on a level all by itself. I was 6 years old when this came out. The 80’s were so great.
Totally ❤
This is one of my all-time favorite ballads...just such beautiful lyrics and vocals.
I just discovered this song in the ending of Cold Case 5/5/2023. Bad ass song!!!! Yeah, he made the World Book of Guinness Record with that note!!
One of Canada's best classic rock bands
He held that note for 19.3 seconds and it got him a world record.

I was searching for this comment. You the first to bring it up. They went on to become another band call Alias and sometimes coved this song.
@@batman1169 Yes, he fronted Alias in the early 1990's with the hit More Than Words Can Say. But this song hits me hardest.
