You two are taking us 80's kids on a trip back to our youthful days and it feels awesome to see all the respect you give these songs. Please watch the movie..The Breakfast Club! BTW, you two are awesome, and keep the trips coming.
passed onto my kids of the early 2000's, they thought "thats exactly like it is in school now" ... ME: um, yep, youre welcome kids, always has been the way in school.
Definitely recommend the movie this is from, "The Breakfast Club". A great film, especially for those of us who were the oddballs/outcasts in high school.
Watch BREAKFAST CLUB!!! It’s a must see!!! The end of this song was supposed to have another verse but Hughes needed it ready for the film so la la la was the result!! It was perfect!!!
I highly suggest their song “Alive & Kicking”, another groove and huge hit of theirs big time!! I was a teenager when this came out! 80’s was the best for music, movies and fashion- So much fun!! 💙💜👍✌️
Fun fact. The song was originally intended for Billy Idol. He turned it down, later recording it for a greatest hits album. Simple Minds also didn't want to do it, but caved and did it.
Simple Minds didn't want to do it because they weren't used to recording music that they didn't write. It was actually Chrissie Hyndes from the Pretenders who was Jim's Wife who convinced him to finally do it. They recorded it & thought the Song would be only a Album filler and of course they were stunned when the song became their first #1 HIT in America!
I was 23 with a 1 yr old and another one on the way.... seems like forever. That 1yr old... her 16 yr old son lives with me now. Crazy... I can't possibly be this old already!!!
Most people remember this song together with a certain film (The Breakfast Club) - they seem so interlinked it is hard to think of one without the other.
It was written specifically for the movie and was so good it took off itself for success. But people that listens after watching the movie get 100% of the context tho still amazing nowdays even if you dindn't watched the movie.
Definitely heavily on rotation on MTV, back when they still played music videos. It's the quintessential 80's movie theme. Can't help but sing it out when I hear it. No doubt, the Breakfast Club movie was enhanced by the popularity of this song.
Simple Minds are Scottish, one of the biggest bands of the 80's, they were also the best live band of the 80's. The drummer Mel Gaynor was one of the best drummers of the 80's.
The fact that this hasn't been sampled, remade, and remixed is a mystery to me... But I'm actually HAPPY that every musician has kinda said to themselves "Nah... I'm not gonna fuck up THAT song." 😎
GREAT SONG GREAT FFLASH BACK FFOR ME. Takes me back back back going waaaaay back to my college days. Also featured in the movie ***THE BREAKFAST CLUB*** A John Hughes movie CLASSIC.
Middle of the 80's, it charted in 1985 when the movie was big. I remember because I turned 21 that year. "Alive and Kickin" is my favorite Simple Minds song, we drove the DJ's in the clubs nuts requesting that song, lol.
Judd Nelson , Emilio Estevez, Molly Ringwald. I think she in addition to being in “The Breakfast Club” was also in a popular movie at the time called “Pretty in Pink”.
I love how Shawn picked up almost immediately on what the lyrics are about :-)--will she acknowledge him or just walk on by. One of the most iconic 80s new wave songs.
Was in one of the best Brat Pack movies of the 80’s, The Breakfast Club. They have some great songs, All the things she said, Once upon a time, Ghost Dancing, Belfast Child.
Love Simple Minds was lucky to see them in the 80’s, they’re still touring & releasing new music 40+ years later. Was disappointed when they had to cancel their tour of Australia last December due to covid restrictions
We had dinner at the table next to them, it was at the holiday inn in Glasgow. Got the drummer up in the lift. We were doing the Scottish rally championship at the time . They were playing at a parkhead stadium I think. This was early to mid eighties. Can't remember exactly the year I was only young . Great band though.
This reminds me of a time when the theme song was hugely important to the success of a movie. This was from the film The Breakfast Club and both were big hits
I am sooooooo lucky and a little guilty I was a teenager growing up in the 80's. No facebook, no snap chat, no mobile phones. Just meeting up with friends face to face, listening to great music.
Great 80’s song but I think Alive and Kicking is such ear candy. That is my favorite song of theirs. He sounds better and the instrumentals are 👌🏼You would loooove it.
Ahhh, the movie THE BREAKFAST CLUB.. 80s cult classic. Great song here as well. Check out ALIVE AND KICKING by this same band, you will not be disappointed
Here is an amazing and epic band called Imminence. The song Chasing Shadows and Alleviate! 2 music videos in one. It’s violin metalcore and yes violin in this. This is a becoming huge Swedish band.
One my favorite 80s tunes. I’m a very devoted Rush fan, I’m not easily impressed with drumming, but I’ve always felt this guy did a masterful job, & really made the song. I have a very fond memory of dancing with this supper hot Brazilian gurl with a wonderful set of wonderfuls to this. The way she’d accentuate her wonderfuls by pulling her purse strap between them while dancing😱 🔥 …., be still my beating heart! hmm, 58 now, have to be careful about saying that 🤷🏻♂️
Never seen the film In it’s entirety, not my sort of film, but do remember this in the charts back in the Uk and was a banger! Funny thing is this is one of many Simple Mind tracks and all hold great memories ❤
This is mid 80's.their from Glasgow Scotland and the lead singer was married to London singer, actress patsy kensit she played Mel Gibson's love interest in lethal weapon 2 and Chrissie hynde the lead singer of the pretenders.in the 80's there was a group of actors that made some movies together the media called them the brat pack.the clips on the TV's are from one of those movies.the breakfast club it is played at the end of the movie also this movie features in pitch perfect and is part of the finale song.
I believe Simple Minds did this at Live Aide also you can find a great version of them singing this at the Billboard awards. Taylor Swift and others standing and singing along. I dearly Love this song!
thank god to my parents growing up with the 80’s I’m 30 now 1991 baby here, but I know the 80’s. so if you ever seen The Breakfast Club, this is the song it plays on.

Whether you like this stuff or not,I gotta hand it to the 80's bands vs the modern radio hit bands...they actually played their own instruments 🙇♂️
Make sure you watch the movie that this is associated with... The Breakfast Club.
We had dinner at the table next to them, it was at the holiday inn in Glasgow. Got the drummer up in the lift. We were doing the Scottish rally championship at the time .
