Your reaction was wonderful. As a man who is looking and trying to find the quiet and truths within from whatever the source., Your analysis was spot on. I've just found your channel and I'm sorry I don't know your name. I'm 52 now but when I was 13 I was diagnosed with Syringomyelia, due to a syrinx on my spine next to my brainstem. It caused all kinds of problems throughout my life but I've been a guitarist and musician since I was 9 and something you said about the stimulus of music helps. I was told I'd be in a wheelchair by the time I was 40. Well, I do use a cane now but I'm far from a wheelchair. Recent visits to my neurosurgeon have let me know that the syrinx has healed up and no more fluids are entering my column near my brainstem. But damage has been done throughout my body. I can't play instruments like I did but I feel when I do it helps. Thank you for this video.

Love the way you broke this down. So few try to actually understand the words and message. If you want another example of this similar message (the inability or unwillingness to verbally communicate with one another) check out XXI Century Blood (official video, not a live version) by The Warning. Another song with a powerful message.
XXI Century Blood is a cool song and video. The Warning kind of expand on that song with Disciple. Both deal with the pitfalls of modern technology and the effects it has on society which is actually prevalent in several of their songs being a Gen Z band. Proud member of TWA.
I can very much relate to this video. My 11 year old daughter has Pathological Demand Avoidance & ASD. Simple everyday tasks or demands activate her flight or fight response and so many people around her don't understand her and blame her for just reacting and excalate the situation by yelling at her, blame etc instead of talking calmly with her and listening to her cry for help.
We live in a time where all of us as sovereign individuals must extend our hands to a stranger and take the risk, to listen, to seek to understand, and to love openly and tolerantly. The stranger standing across from you today may be your best friend tomorrow. We are not so different. But the divide must be mended and ears must open and hearts must heal. So happy to see you up here again! Keep on winning! Love always ✨☘️🤍🕊️☺️✨

I completely agree with you, George! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughtful insights. It’s always a pleasure to hear from you and read your reflections on my videos. I'm glad to be back reacting to music. I hope you’re doing well! 😊🎶
@neurogalmd Just taking each day as it comes and trying to make it a pearl. As I live I try to string together as many pearls as I can LOL it's coming together nicely. I'm currently fascinated by the concept of collective mental health.. your point on music having an effect on individuals where they can feel with one another and pick up on the same rhythms as each other is fascinating. It reminds me of Bob Marley's vibology... Made famous by the movie I Am legend LOL. Have a beautiful day Anna! Be well and don't forget to root for the 49ers LOL ☺️✨💯
I agree with this whole heartedly. 💜 If we go back to when something traumatizing for everyone, such as 9/11, it didn’t matter who you were or what the differences were. Everyone came together and we were all one. No matter where you were on that day, if you were old enough, the dynamic of everything that happened and all of the people lost to this that were from so many countries, we became one. Everyone was impacted, like a slap in the face, we dropped everything and stood stunned, but then responded. It’s sad that as things have advanced, we grow further apart, are more scared and uncertain. To have to have something so devastating to get people on the same wave length is unfathomable. This song is absolutely beautiful and takes someone like David Draiman to reach people on a certain level. He has such a range in the voice. I often get goose bumps listening to this song. 💜 💜 💜 Also, wanted to say that this is the first time watching one of your videos and I subscribed. People need to be able to empathize and sympathize with each other. No one person is more important than another, in the simplest terms. Yet, the current US tensions and the fear of the unknown is going to drive us to something I myself am very worried about. Those in office are supposed to speak for ALL of us. They are supposed to put aside their wants, desires or whatever and improve our lives for everyone, not just those they deem worthy or those only within their party. Until this can happen, which will not be anytime soon, we will continue to experience all of the negative. I don’t know how anyone cannot be affected by this. My hope is that sometime soon there will be something that will pull us all back together.
He opens his eyes on the word Vision, i did not see that someone else pointed that out in a comment, but pretty cool. Listen to Jinjer Pisces and there you have a voice, or 2 to react to :)
First time consumer here. Really nice reaction and informed commentary. Well pleased you brought your scientific perspective to this party. On the collective resonance point - I'll suggest (because I'm an old school rocker) both the Sabaton show at Woodstock in Poland, and of course the 2013 Wacken Nightwish show! Soo many filmed glimpses of that theory prevailing in actual human experiences. Jus sayin... Thank you. Please keep it up! Cheers rl 🤘👹🤘
I really like your reaction to this. Whats scary is that it is still relevant today you would think that by now it would have changed but I guess its like the saying says we are doomed to repeat history. I like the way you broke down this whole thing. Thank you for this reaction
For me, this incredible video depicts a post-apocolyptic scenario in which the survivors have lost virtually everything and the band are having to re-introduce music to them, which has long since been forgotten. David Draiman's voice really is a thing of joy and wonder. Such a powerful and emotional message delivered so beautifully. I know Paul Simon himself has said how much he liked and appreciated Disturbed's superb cover of his amazing song from way back in the '60's. 🙋♂
This version has well over a billion views now, since the 2015 release... after hearing this Paul Simon apparently commented that this song now belongs to David Draiman, the vocalist, and Disturbed....
During COVID is when I first discovered this video. From then until today, music videos have gotten me through all the craziness. I have always been a political junkie, and without music videos like VoicePlay ( a phenomenal a capella group I highly recommend) and Angelina Jordon, I don't know how I would have coped. If you're interested, VoicePlay does a beautiful rendition of Nothing Else Matters a capella. Thanks for your explanation of how music affects us ❤
My favorite Disturbed song by far! The lyrics of this song are as relevant now as they were then, and in my humble opinion, even more relevant. Too many times, as you stated, we are simply "hearing" waiting for our chance to say our piece without really listening to what the other conversant is actually saying. Listening is an active event and requires the "listener" to consciously fully engage in the conversation, both auditorily and cognitively. Thank you for this reaction. I'm new to your channel, but I would love to hear a reaction to Five Finger Death Punch's, "Wrong Side of Heaven". Thanks again! Keep doing what you do, and I'll keep watching.
So grateful that you reacted to this. I found it a few months ago and was totally enthralled with everything about it. It seems to me that Paul Simon wrote this for this band to cover… especially in the cultural climate today.
I never noticed this. I always thought it was PEOPLE on Charon's Boat at the end. I finally focused on the boat. They're the "Instruments of the Dead" being sent to the Silent as a warning.
Thanks for your insight into this wonderful interpretation of S&G's beautiful song. A dimension has been added that will live through many generations.
Dr. Anna, thank you for all your helpful videos. They are a place I can trust. Music: You are so right. I wonder suddenly what a history of the country would be like following the thread of music rather than politics--I digress. Witness, for example, the country in the jaws of the Great Depression but two songs that were played were, "Walk on the Sunny Side Of the Street," and, "Happy Times Are Here Again," (yes, I know, "Brother Can you Spare A Dime was coexistent"). I offer more, music from, "The Last of the Mohicans". "Promontory"! My lungs fill with air and I want to be, and adventure into those hills. "The Gael," arms up, spinning and dancing, not when no one is looking but when everyone is looking, smiling, joining. Leonard Cohen's, "Hallelujah," I want to stand and sing loudly, teary eyed, levitating listeners. "The Wreak of the Edmond Fitzgerald," turn my thoughts to swimming lessons... Com'on lets be practical here for a moment.
Great reaction and analysis to such an amazing performance! I highly recommend that you do some reactions to 2 singers. Dimash - SOS and The Story of one Sky. Lara Fabian - Je Suis Malade. They are both incredible and sing with so much emotion, feeling and passion. Their live performances are amazing and even better than their recordings. You will love both of them I'm sure! Just checked out Rosalie - she is great. Looking forward to your next reaction! Greetings from London 😀
The ironic thing with your analysis of music being the great unifier is that is exactly what Disturbed as a band preaches. In their live concerts they repeatedly bring up “welcome to the biggest group therapy session you’ll ever attend”. Very big on unity and coming together and putting our differences aside. Awesome group of guys!!!
I completely agree with you regarding the media. The first election I was able to vote in was Reagan vs Mondale, crime was a major issue in that election, and has been in every election since. Listening to political candidates and news outlets you would never know that crime, especially violent crime has been declining since that election. Fear forces engagement.
I would suggest that you react to the Sting cover that Disturbed did, If I ever lose my faith in you… The video that goes along with this is just so deep.
There’s a live version on Conan 2016, it’s really incredible. Definitely check it out💜 My husband recently passed and both my kids just left for college. I’ve gone from a home of 4, to being alone. The sound of the silence in this house feels deafening sometimes.
I just discovered you today, and you with Heather Berlin win over the Hadid sisters or any Kardashian-Jenner sister combo any day. And I loved your assessment of this amazing cover along with your tutorial. Liked, subscribed, and infatuated... by your brain... of course.
I enjoyed your reaction... thanks! I would love to see you react to Geoff Castellucci's version of this song. It's completely different but just as good. Very relaxing, and I PROMISE you won't be ready for Geoff's voice. He's a super low, smooth bass with a full 5 octave range. He sings all the harmonies in his videos.
You need to watch videos of Disturbed in concert doing A Reason to Fight. The band is very vocal about getting help for addiction and depression. At the end of the videos they post helpline numbers. They are an amazing band.
Great reaction. Another video with a great meaning is a new song by NIGHTWISH called LANTERLIGHT. A song about life. Its become my favorite song in my 63 years
Disturbed -The Sound of Silence video has over 1 BILLION views in 8 YEARS. 1 Billion seconds is equal to 32 years. This means, that more than three, almost four people, had to click play, every second of every day for 8 years. WOW!!!
Because of Cell Phones and The Internet, We lost that togetherness. We Text each other and we're just across the street. In The Past when the TV came out, we stopped going outside to Play on weekends. Watch TV all Day Cartoons after Cartoons. So There it is! ✌
The line that resonates with me is “silence like a cancer grows”. I’ve got a view, politically and socially, different than most of my family. I say that to mean I see everyone’s pint of view and I don’t want anyone to lose their rights or feel threatened. A few members of my family are fully invested in the doom and gloom of the election. My opinions, despite not being extreme but more moderate, aren’t welcomed. As a result, I don’t have an opinion when those topics come up because I just want to keep the peace. I just want peace. I know that anything I say against popular opinion will violate that peace I want, so I stay silent. Despite their views demonizes my views. Silence like a cancer grows. Cheers!
Music is primarily used to feel better, our body and brain start to vibrate, we fill up with dopamine!! the pleasure hormone, in the 80s, we had Michael Jackson, a new sound, a new type of music, revolutionary! I also liked J M SILK!! but as a Frenchman, I always vibrate to Maurice Ravel's Bolero, why, I don't know, and I feel sad listening to piano music, James Horner - "Casper's Lullaby"
"there are those who listen and those who wait to talk ... this album is dedicated to,the listeners" ............. Paul Williams ... "Old Fashioned Love Song" ...... 1971
Some people will remain oblivious to the extreme indoctination and deception we've been subjected to in this life (even though truth is written on the walls). Waking up is like walking around seeing color while everyone else is still stuck in black and white. It's incredible but can feel very lonely. Wonder if Simon and Gfunk learned how the world really works in their ascent to celebrity. That’s what 'Sound of Silence' brings to mind for me anyways. 😊 Thank you.
I've always imagined an "Open" neon light flashing on and off just a moment before the lyrics hit upon the word "neon" to fade entirely to black. This would signify we aren't "really" open to communication.
Since you talked about this song's relevance to current events I must suggest symphony of destruction by the band Megadeath. The lyrics nail the nation as it is today.
Great reaction, thank you. The thing I like is that there are so many interpretations to this song. For me, it's that society has lost it's way and have become totally absorbed in technology and social media and have forgotten how to communicate with each other on a personal level. Music has become the uniting force that can bring us back together. Side note: Never really cared for the original, little too folksy for me. Disturbed version just gives it a little more feeling and weight.
It's been noted that Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning, and Disturbed's version is the anger that people continue to ignore the warning. Another song I think you would like to analyze is by Queensryche: "Silent Lucidity"... another song with deep meaning and great visualizations in the video.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’ve experienced the same-mindfulness can be incredibly empowering, especially in today’s world. It’s helped me realize that true power comes from within, not external circumstances. I’m so glad to hear it’s been helpful for you too!
Neon Gods could easily apply to celebrities or technology. Too many give too much weight to opinions of people simply because they're famous, or what the latest "message" is on social media.
11:59 It’s nice that scientific research has shown evidence that music brings people together, but it’s unnecessary. All you have to do is go to a concert and look around. The people in the crowd come from all walks of life, all different political views, moral perspectives, religious backgrounds, and social status, and no one cares about any of that in the moment. They’re united in their love of the music, in the fact that it resonates with each of them on some level, and it connects people in ways that nothing else can. Music truly is the great unifier.
You're absolutely right-there’s something really magical about the way music can bring people together, regardless of background or beliefs. Science just puts a label on it, but the experience itself says it all. Thank you for sharing this insight!
That an AMAZING cover of the Original... Can you please please react to Dimash outstanding song The Story of one Sky? A lot to learn from the song meaning reinforced by an awesome video. Full of meaning and so relevant!!!
I absolutely agree. Dimash understands exactly what you are saying. Also Diana Ankudinova “Can’t Help Falling in Love” is absolutely amazing as well. She’s a dramatic contralto with polyphonic and subharmonic abilities. I’ve never heard anything like these two in my 70 years. Enjoy whenever you can.
It would be very beneficial for you to know why he wrote what he did when he made that song. The song was written for his blind friend who he followed through New York City without guiding him. Your interpretation is what you think it means but like all good texts it can be understood it can be comprehended in many different ways, please yours is just one of them.
Thank you for sharing that context! I appreciate learning more about the background story. I agree; my interpretation is shaped by my own thoughts and experiences, and each person brings their unique perspective. I love how powerful songs can connect with us in so many ways, and it’s inspiring to hear different interpretations and insights.
Simon and Garfunkel rendition of this song was one of mourning. Disturbed's version was one of anger and defiance. Pentatonix version was one of remembrance and hope.
This is indeed a Great song & I would offer you another that you might enjoy breaking down from the Group Styx ( The Grand Illusion ) 😮 Warmest Regards from the Sunshine ☀ State of Florida 😎 The Like button 🔳 has been Illuminated 😊👍 🎶 However I appreciate Music with & without Lyrics like 1) Johann Sabation Bach's ( Air ) 2) John Murphy's ( Surface of the Sun ☀ ) 3) Mozart piano concerto No 21 Andante ( I call Undersea ) 4 ) Patricia Janeckova's ( Rusalka ) Song to the Moon
Oh yeah, a reaction to the live version would be great! Everytime the story about his condition that day is told! And every 6 months or so, somebody added a new "fact"! Like his exact body temperatur (with decimals)... I know we always been like that, but internet will help us to get even faster to "not so good point"! I want to comment on what you said about "knowing what's going on in the world'' and what to do with it. If people would use it, to learn sth for themselves and to help, great thing! But now the reality: You don't know what's true. Media is used to contro youl and spread joy(no it isn't) it is actually FEAR! They will never work in your favour. I've stopped watching, reading, and listening to news five years ago and completely turned off my TV three years ago. No social media! Only music, nature and good people(I get to know many more people, bcs stereotypes are gone), and my job (helping others in health care) AND TY premium (no ads) but YT is also gone, as soon as my 11 year smartphone goes kaputt(a little bit of my native tongue)! But I am working only 20 hrs/week, although I love my profession! That's more than enough, once you left this crazy brainwashing machine! I lost so many fears, 6 weeks after I stopped watching the news! I never thought, it would be possible, to control me...! How wrong I was...! After 5 year, without those incredible unnecessary and manipulative informations, I see things 100% differently! My whole (adult) life I was thinking and living someone else's thoughts and goals! I'm so glad and grateful, that I got to the point in my life, at which I had to change everything! We don't even realize what's happening, bcs it is normal to us! But we are throwing away our precious, interesting and fun time! Have a good one! ✌🏻
A thousand reactions and not one…NOT ONE…caught the message at the end…no one noticed that that was the ARK…full of MUSICIANS….gliding to the people who WROTE the songs…I guess I’m the only person alive who caught that…sad…truly sad…
If you're interested in a commentary on society today I highly recommend watching the music video of "XXI Century Blood" by The Warning. They are a rock band from Monterrey, Mexico, composed of 3 sisters. At the time of the video, they were 17, 15, and 12.
I know you've already reacted to the song, but may I encourage you to watch the live version from The Conan O'Brien Show. It is even more incredible imo.
I swear there’s every kind of reactor on the tube anymore. You’ve got therapist reacts, Nepal girls react, opera singer reacts, etc, etc…I’m gonna start my own unique reaction channel called: Dumb, middle- aged white dude who’s balding and has serious gas and flagellation reacts to the same crap he’s seen and heard a thousand times! I think I’ve got something there. I didn’t want to make it too obvious or specific and leave a little to the imagination. I think l killed it!
I love how you didn’t check your volume level during the first few seconds of the song. So many people don’t get that it’s the “sound of silence” with all the abandoned instruments.
Yeah... I understand what you're saying... but in modern times, people more and more seem to view life as a zero sum equation.... not to be negotiated with, but to be transacted with. And that's why we find ourselves where we are.
Thank you so much for the generous SuperThanks, Judith! I really appreciate your support - it means a lot and keeps me motivated to create more content. Glad you enjoyed the video! 😊🙏
The original S/G version was a warning. This was the anger that we didn't listen to the warning.
i was literally about to type that but yours was the very 1st comment in the section, so thank you for saying it for me.
Agreed
And were still ignoring it. Luckily I'm old so my time is coming to a close. Sadly my children can't say the same.
Yep, I've read it as being...
S&G = Mother telling toddler to go to bed
D = Mother 2 hours later. Lost her sh*t
Disturbed's live version of this on Conan is just as amazing to watch.
I actually disagree with this statement...it's still good, but David was sick so they required him to use an auto-tune, giving his voice a somewhat tinny sound in his higher registers, and he hates auto-tune.

I heard someone say, that Simon and Garfunkel was the song of our youth and Disturbed’s version is for us as adults. It resonated with me.
Great reaction and insight.
The live version is phenomenal especially when you know that Dave was under the weather for the show.
Thanks for your insight ❤ if you haven’t done it already, i highly recommend Jonny Cash’s cover of Nine Inch Nail’s song Hurt. I think you will be moved. The video is so poignant.
I was going to recommend the same.
His Swan song, saying goodbye to his life. He made this his own and gave us a song for the ages.
I believe Trent Reznor said “the song is his now”, or something to that effect.
Your reaction was wonderful. As a man who is looking and trying to find the quiet and truths within from whatever the source., Your analysis was spot on. The video's silence at the opening says it all without saying anything...The Sounds of Silence. Incredibly powerful...just like the performance.
According to Wikipedia, this David Draiman version (as of September) has had over one billion views on UA-cam. Thank you.
You are BANG on with each thing you’ve said. God bless you and your family. I love seeing your soul come through in your message when you talk

On the collective resonance point -
I'll suggest (because I'm an old school rocker) both the Sabaton show at Woodstock in Poland, and of course the 2013 Wacken Nightwish show! Soo many filmed glimpses of that theory prevailing in actual human experiences. Jus sayin...
Thank you. Please keep it up!
Cheers

🤘👹🤘
You must react to Nightwish, the poet and the pendulum
Definitely check it out💜
My husband recently passed and both my kids just left for college.
Liked, subscribed, and infatuated... by your brain... of course.
Jethro Tull " Thick as a Brick " live !!
The best Coversong ever !😮
I enjoyed your reaction... thanks! I would love to see you react to Geoff Castellucci's version of this song. It's completely different but just as good. Very relaxing, and I PROMISE you won't be ready for Geoff's voice. He's a super low, smooth bass with a full 5 octave range. He sings all the harmonies in his videos.
You need to watch videos of Disturbed in concert doing A Reason to Fight. The band is very vocal about getting help for addiction and depression. At the end of the videos they post helpline numbers. They are an amazing band.
I really like this version, never heard this version before & it’s been many years since I’ve heard the original.
WOW!!!
Loved the song , all your information and your reaction. Great job !
I have heard when Simon and Garfunkel wrote this song that it was referring to the Kennedy assassination
Nope
Cheers!
Falling in reverse: watch the world burn, Ronald, prequel, last resort reimagined, the drug in me reimagined and I am not a vampire revamped.
P.S. Many congratulations on 100,000 subscribers!
Great rendition of the Simon and Garfunkel song -
You should check out what Paul Simon says regarding Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence.
It's been noted that Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning, and Disturbed's version is the anger that people continue to ignore the warning. Another song I think you would like to analyze is by Queensryche: "Silent Lucidity"... another song with deep meaning and great visualizations in the video.
Practicing mindfulness sounds silly, but it has helped me massively in this hypercharged environment.
Thank you for your very informative reaction! My mom has late stage Parkinson’s, do you think music would help her? ❤
I love this. Thank you.
This song has always resonated with me.
Perfection does exist its this song live
Love hearing the perspective of a real scientist. Facts still matter.
Wow, a beautiful song and a smart and beautiful woman who gave an insight I didn’t consider. Thank you.
Don't care about any backstory or even what the writer says, music is left for the listener's interpretation, that's the beauty of it.
This is indeed a Great song & I would offer you another that you might enjoy breaking down from the Group Styx ( The Grand Illusion ) 😮
Warmest Regards from the Sunshine ☀ State of Florida 😎
The Like button 🔳 has been Illuminated 😊👍 🎶
However I appreciate Music with & without Lyrics like
1) Johann Sabation Bach's ( Air )
2) John Murphy's ( Surface of the Sun ☀ )
3) Mozart piano concerto No 21 Andante ( I call Undersea ) 4 ) Patricia Janeckova's ( Rusalka ) Song to the Moon
But now the reality:
You don't know what's true.
Awesome! I Love your insight and knowledge. Music has helped me get thru 69 bad years.
Sorry...forgot something. If you want to feel another incredible video checkout Morrisette Amon and "Could You Be Messiah". You'll thank me.
You should also do Pentatonix upgrade of Imagine...
happy to be connected through this music reaction.
it helps my brain :)
A thousand reactions and not one…NOT ONE…caught the message at the end…no one noticed that that was the ARK…full of MUSICIANS….gliding to the people who WROTE the songs…I guess I’m the only person alive who caught that…sad…truly sad…
Jesus, you sound arrogant.
Please react to the song Noise by Nightwish.
i listen to the silence, and it gives me instinct for my soul.
If you're interested in a commentary on society today I highly recommend watching the music video of "XXI Century Blood" by The Warning.
They are a rock band from Monterrey, Mexico, composed of 3 sisters. At the time of the video, they were 17, 15, and 12.
It's a cover of a Simon and Garfunkel song.👍
Great reaction. Please listen to Lanternlight by Nightwish. You will be amazed.
You need to checkout Pentatonix cover of this... equally awesome, but different..Pentatonix doesn't do covers...they do upgrades.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Excellent, thank you!!
Thank you! ♥️
I think you'd like The Light by Disturbed!
Gorgeous song and Neurologist 😘
I know you've already reacted to the song, but may I encourage you to watch the live version from The Conan O'Brien Show. It is even more incredible imo.
Thank you!
I recommend to watch Celia Muñoz.
Have you heard NF’s “Mama”? It’s quite good :)
Yeah... I understand what you're saying... but in modern times, people more and more seem to view life as a zero sum equation.... not to be negotiated with, but to be transacted with. And that's why we find ourselves where we are.
The insanity of one side is clear, that is for sure!
I got less than half a skull left after someone tried to kill me
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the generous SuperThanks, Judith! I really appreciate your support - it means a lot and keeps me motivated to create more content. Glad you enjoyed the video! 😊🙏
IMO Neon gods represents Celebrities of all kinds, that commercialism hypes, but rarely provide anything of lasting worrh.
