One of my all time favorite songs. The name of the group was Sheriff. The singer's name is Freddie Curci. He also was in a band called Alias.
They say when they were recording it that he didn’t know when it was going to end so he held that note, which turns out to be in the Guinness book of world records!

In 1979 graduated high school in June and turned 18 in August. I have loved this song since then! I also love ‘More Than Words Can Say’ by his other band named Alias. It’s too bad Sheriff didn’t stay together, they were talented! This song didn’t become a #1 in the U.S. until 1989 though, after a Las Vegas DJ played it during his “10 at 10” show. They’d split up by then.

I saw them live on this tour when I was in juniror high (c. 1983) in Gloucester (Ontario). He held the notes then too ! :)

Song hit #61 in 1982 on Billboard Hot 100. Band broke up. A local DJ in Las Vegas in 1989 loved the song and played it at times and it took off. Record label re-relased the song and it shot to #1 on Billboard Hot 100 several years after the band broke up.

They were a group. Lead Singers name is Freddy Curci. That was a Number 1 Hit for them. Canadian Band. I remember the first time I heard that song in the radio…it blew me away! They disbanded and then reappeared with some new members for a Group named Alias. They had another number 1 hit in Canada, #2 in the US with a song “More Than Words Can Say”

I heard that years back when the song come out. My brother got me listening to it back in the while 80s. 90s or whatever and said that was the longest note ever held. I think this pretty cool
Lead singers name is Freddy " Curci and the group used to be called Sheriff back in the 80s. They didn't last long and split up before this song became a hit.
When I first heard song on radio it stopped me in my tracks, softened my day,,,, Thanks man.

Curci, although he did get recognition, it wasnt enough lol... this guy just 'had the voice'. This song is in the same boat... one of the best written, music and sang songs ever. There is 'NO' weaknesses in this song 🤙🤙

There was a commercial during the 90's for the "Monster Ballads" CD. It closed out with the chorus for this song on the blue phone number order screen.
Sheriff is one of many great Canadian bands. They only had one album that came out in 1982. Freddy Curci was later in Alias. Arnold Lanni and Wolf Hassel later formed Frozen Ghost, another great band.
Huge talent in Canada. Shania Twain and Avril Lavigne Canadians as well.
"Sheriff" broke up in 1985, but the led singer and led guitar player formed the band "Alias" and in 1990 had two top 40 hits, one hit went to #2, and the other hit, went to #13 on Billboard Top 40. Then the GRUNGE sound started to take over the air-ways, and the record companies were no longer interested. Lady Luck did not fall their way. Thanks Soo Much for the review.

I love this group. They are awesome!! It looks like they changed their name to Alias and sang More Than Words Can Say and others. A couple more groups to check out, Bad English - When I See You Smile (there are a couple of guys in it that ended up with Journey - Neal, guitar and Jonathan, keyboard. Also, an awesome song - Love of a Lifetime with Firehouse. These will not disappoint 😊👍

I here the song last high note, was 19 seconds and is in the Genous Book of World Records for the longest note on a Top 40 Billboard Record. By the way, the song was released in 1983 and reached # 1 on Billboard top 40 in 1989. Explain that !
Song was re-released in 1989 after a local Las Vegas DJ started playing it and the phones lit up with requests, then spread like wildfire and shot to #1. When originally released only hit #61 on Billboard Hot 100.

They did ok in canada with this song, then here in th US a disk jokey played the wrong side of a record and it was a #1 hit but the band had broken up by then they tried to get them back together but some members were already in another band, so the singer and one other band member went on to form an new band together and had one other #1 hit.
