Hi Hollis and Nancy, keep up the good work.my wife and I drove down to Homestead from Maryland and we fell in love with the city. Do you know any Realtor that you can recommend?
I agree it’s already hard work what they do and to add on all the coordination and organizing an effort to make videos and have that all on your mind at the same time I appreciate that also
Thank you for your latest post. I was a member of a gardening group until last year when I had a stroke and had to give it up. I'm still at my mosaic group, making my art, just slower now than I was, but I won't give up. Your posts kept me going during my hospital stay and a couple of nurses have been inspired by you to start their own growing. Thank and love you both xx
When one juices the watermelon juice the rind with it! We grew watermelons and cantelopes in our long flower bed! They were so delish! We are looking forward to moving this year with our daughter to Florida! God Bless!
Ty Hollis and Nancy 🙏 May God keep y'all in strength and knowledge and given the blessings to help us the newbies that's going to be planting a few watermelon 🍉🍉🍉🍉 this weekend 🙏
I always love your videos, but I have to say Bing Bing stole the show on this one! It was so cute watching him with Nancy on the cart. Thanks for putting out such great information, and your editing just gets better and better, with it all coming together for videos that I love to watch. Take care! Heard there’s supposed to be some bad weather down south soon.
Very very nice. My goodness, have I got a craving for watermelon, and the season is so far off. I really enjoyed seeing your watermelon patch, and those juicy red watermelons. Have a wonderful weekend. See you next time!
We live in 10a and gave watermelons our first try this year. they have been doing great but I was heartbroken to go out and find one of four had split. Rain has been off and on, and they are a week or 2 from being perfect, but the chickens didn't mind the early treat. I came back to rewatch this series and might try to squeeze in some cantaloupe yet this summer. Thanks for all you both do and for being such a strong light!
Always nice to watch you guys. I love how you share your faith and love for each other and gardening. :o) Ever thought of adding a layer of wood chips on top like the Back to Eden method? It made a huge difference with my terrible dirt here in AZ; it is now soil. :o) You cannot till wood chips in though, but the no-till method helps build the soil. God bless!
How are you guys? It’s been awhile since a video has been uploaded. I enjoy watching your channel and the progression of your new property. I hope all is well there.
My zucchini patch last year started getting mildew on the leaves towards summer's end, and I believe that the overhead watering did it. I too plan to water the zucchini from below the leaves, when I plant it this year.
I only water once per week early in the morning allowing all the moisture to evaporate during the day. The mildew I experienced was from over a week of rain and 3 weeks of unseasonably cool and overcast conditions. Drip irrigation in Florida sandy soil is not enough water for my garden
Mildew on your Zucchini towards the end of the summer is pretty much the norm. Everyone experiences that. I figure if squash, cucumbers, watermelon, etc makes it to summers end it is a great success
From Cyprus Dave, living in Cyprus, watched part 1 and 2,my fourth time trying to grow water melons,,just not got it right yet, once you finished part 1 ,are you relying on bees to pollinating the female's flowers? What npk are you using and how often?. My biggest was about 10 inches diameter, so needing help..Thanks in advance.
Loving your sharing of your new adventures. You both look wonderful as do all the ladies. Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to your up coming videos. Keep well.
Great video once again. Thanks for the inspiration to start mine and my grandaughters channel. Your channel opened up the whole youtube world for me. Thanks
I just love you two ❤ Thank you for sharing yourselves with us. Every time I watch your videos I give my hubby another project to do on our homestead 😆
@Hollis and Nancys Homestead - With that lunarscape you have for soil, and to save the work of creating berms by hand and of lugging in the bags of composted cow manure, I would think you would use continuous hills for the melons, instead of individual mounds. You could drive in loads of manure, some wood chips, other compost, and biochar, dropping them in a solid line, till those in as a solid line, then use the tiller between rows to create the berms. Burying drip line in the berm valley or near the mound ridge would also be good and save on problems with plant pathogens later. Just pop in the seedlings every 2 or 3 feet on top of the elongated mounds, and use liquid fertilizer, to get a bumper crop with minimal labor. Also you would end up with ready-made rows of healthy soil for a different crop to plant in that area for the next 3 years, again to suppress plant pathogens.
Just a trick plant some zinnias and marigolds between the watermelons I see there's lack of polination thats why they are a little white inside. Or stablish some hives close to the patch
Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to Hollis and Nancy's Homestead! (really..... you had to ask why?) 😊😊😊 TYFS, Great Job on them melons guys!!! Mark and Rosa
Hollis I am going to do some watermelon this year and I am going to do them like you did going to use the black cow and see what happens and going to do some worm tea, would you like some worms for a worm bed
I dont have the room but I would love to grow my own Watermelon! It seems like a lot of work for how big your patch is. Thanksfor all the info. If I ever find myself with some land I would definitely do it.
I grew my first personal watermelons last year and they looked exactly like yours. I guess they needed to be on the vine a bit longer to mature and ripen more? But they were tasty. I'll try again this year to see what happens. Delicious! Thanks for sharing. BTW, love that little hitchhiker Nancy happened to pick up in the garden. He's a cutie!!
I've been trying the sugar baby watermelon this year here in Ocala. You say you're in zone 9 too so I'm guessing I can work things about the same as y'all do. Next year round I'll give your hills a go. Can't argue with results.
You guys are a big inspiration for me I never do good with watermelons but we're going to give it a try love the prayers just want to say thank you guys keep up the good work
Okay! Cluck, cluck, cluck!! I'll be one of your chickens so I could get some watermelon! lol. -- I love watching all of your videos - you two are so cute together.
Well, my Black Kow is in the back of the truck. The Black Diamond watermelon seeds are sitting here looking at me. The holes are almost finished. Everything is coming together fairly well. If this don’t work you are in big trouble:-) Love the channel.

What do you do with all of your harvests? You grow enough for a small village! Beautiful!
I saw in their squash video that they donated it to a kitchen that Nancy volunteers at.

In this humid Florida it attracts ants and termite.
Thank you for all you do and all your tips

Thank you both.
We just put in our watermelon patch. We enjoy your videos.
👍
Crimson sweet are the best watermelon to grow.I spray the leaves with Epsom salt 3 weeks before harvest to increase the sweetness of the melons
Had recently bbq’d watermelon & it was incredible!
We make watermelon smoothies really good with grapes and apple juice.
One thought is that the overhead sprinklers might be contributing to the fungus, might try drip or furrow watering! Thanks
