  • Growing cabbage in containers is easy, especially if you don't have a lot of land.
This cabbage great for stir-fries and egg rolls. This video is our best way to grow cabbage in 5 gallon bucket from seed to Harvest.
    #garden #howto #organic
Cabbage is delicious, early heads are sweet and tender! Leaves are thin and juicy with a slight peppery bite. Small, uniform heads with attractive rosebud wrappers are great for containers.

@Ron Bennett Outdoors & Country Good to hear from you Ron. Glad our videos are fun for you to watch! That’s awesome that your granddaughter likes our channel❤️❤️❤️. We decided to try to do a few fishing videos for next year. They are not tutorials. We will leave the fishing tutorials up to great fishing channels such as yours. Our fishing videos are just something fun and relaxing to watch. At least that’s the goal anyway. Just filmed a crappie trip on Tuesday. We caught 19 in August!! We couldn’t believe we did that good. The water has not started to cool down yet so the best fishing is still ahead of us. Nancy is going to add how we cook them on each video as well. We are hoping the videos will bring some joy and peace to folks that watch them. Thanks for watching. Have a peaceful weekend

You and Nancy have the best videos! Clear instructions, friendly smiles, humble thankfulness, great cooking recipes, and much needed help (at least in my case)! I think you both look so much younger than your years, because you stay active and eat healthy (with the Good Lord’s help, of course). I don’t comment often, but I want you both to know what a blessing your videos are to me. They bring back such good memories of growing up on our mountain farm. I miss the awesome garden food, and cabbage is one of my favorites. I Iike it cooked any way, and I love to make chow chow. Due to my limited space, I have learned how to grow a few patio vegetables from watching your channel. I also love to watch Nancy cook. She has given us some great recipes and tips! Thank you!👍

When I saw the title of your video growing cabbage in a 5 gallon bucket I thought oh awesome I definitely need to watch because I’ve been growing different things in 5 gallon buckets as well with a lot of success. The thing I didn’t realize is that you grow outdoors and in soil in a 5 gallon bucket! Lol!
It’s amazing how we are both growing in 5 gallon buckets but in a completely different way. I don’t put any soil in my 5 gallon bucket in fact the only soil that I use is less then a 1/4 cup of soil that I use to germinate my seeds but once they have grown to a seedling size and I mean a microgreen 🌱 size with just two leaves and one main root I pull it out and put it into a 5 gallon bucket of nutrient rich water.
I keep the seedling inside the tiniest hole in the top of the lid suspended by aluminum foil that I just wrap around it like a bit of a collar and then I cover the remaining top of the bucket with aluminum foil after I add another tiny hole that I feed a tube through and then attach an air stone to it and to an air pump at the other end of the tube. You can also grow things hydroponically in 5gallon bucket without the need for electricity using the kratky method and that just allows the plants to get oxygen to get into the plant via air roots that the plant grows in addition to the roots that it grows below those that go into the water so that it can pull water and nutrients up as it needs it. The thing to be concerned about with kratky method is that when you refill the water you can’t go above where those air roots have grown or you will drown the plant. That is not the case with the plant that grows with an air stone although I always err on the side of caution when refilling regardless the method.
The reason I was curious about watching your video is that I’ve been growing broccoli this way but I’ve yet to try cabbage in a 5gallon bucket with water. The closest I’ve come is growing pak choy in trays similar to what you use for your seedlings the deep 3” ones with a hole in the bottom however mine are considerably wider McKenzie makes them. I use a try underneath that has no holes. The tray underneath holds the nutrient solution and the tray above holds the pak choy seedling and it just leans against the inside of the cup when it’s a baby seedling with the single root and before long that little seedling is standing straight up on its on in the middle of the container and is growing so many leaves and it grows up and out of the cups and continues growing and I just keep adding the nutrient enriched solution to the bottom trays and the roots are pristine white and there is no algae growth or anything. Because I’m growing indoors there is no damage to any of the leaves due to pests or anything like that. I do have grow lights that I use that work very well they are T5 full spectrum LED warm white lights and everything I grow under them so far seems to absolutely love them. Because they are LED they don’t produce any heat. I’ve been thoroughly impressed with my ability to grow indoors and with a teeny tiny bit of soil. It’s no mess and it’s so easy to do. I’m also growing sweet peppers this way I have sweet red lipstick variety that I’ve been growing for the past two years indoors and it is consistently putting on peppers, it’s incredible they don’t have a season the way we think of a season it’s not dependent at all upon the weather outdoors it’s dependent upon the plants own natural cycle. So it puts on leaves and grows it’s branches and then it will grow small flowers and then those turn into peppers and then after the last pepper is picked it begins it’s cycle all over again! Who knew?! I sure didn’t. But that’s how this plant is growing and so is my Etuda Orange pepper plant. I may have mentioned they have been growing like that for the past two years the only thing I have to do besides keeping them in nutrient rich water is to consistently be pruning because if I don’t the branches can break off from the weight of the leaves and all the peppers! I think it’s because the leaves aren’t falling off the way they would in nature from wind or rain or animals eating them. So I prune them often. But that’s all there is to them it’s soooo easy and we are eating sweet peppers every day with just these two plants. So now I’m trying to grow two types of yellow sweet peppers one is called a yellow California wonder and the other is a yellow sweet banana pepper. I just put the seedlings in water today. Weve decided besides peppers, pak choy and lettuce greens which we are growing all year round we are going to also try our experiments and see how they do. Broccoli is one, I also have a cucumber plant on the go ive grown them before but made a lot of mistakes with it so I’m trying again. I do want to grow tomatoes too and I have a beefsteak seedling started now my attempt at growing six different varieties of tomatoes failed miserably over the summer but I think it was more to do with gardener error then anything else. Lol! Oh did I also mention we don’t have any place to grow outdoors at all we live on the 34th floor in an apartment building. And grow everything in front of our south facing windows which get really hot in summer and winter. I also use the grow lights and several different ways of growing in water, hydroponics is not just one way and all of mine are inexpensive no fancy stuff except for the nutrients which is the same way you would enrich your soil with nutrients.
Enjoyed your video congrats on the beautiful cabbage! I just may try it one day but in water instead.🥰🙏🏻🇨🇦

Always truly Inspiring brother. I find this method really helps me because I can move these buckets to the green house tunnel as needed. Mahalo Nui Loa from DFW

I just found your channel and subscribed today. Love your videos! I'm in my late 60's now & arthritis has made it very painful to garden in the ground as I always have, so I've been doing some raised beds last couple of years, but they're too expensive to do on a large scale. Did bale garden last year and was impressed with production, and was perfect height to garden from a chair, but what a mess!
So I decided to get into containers this year - buckets, and mineral tubs - to get off the ground with less expense. Your videos are a HUGE help in sorting out the process. Thank you!

I love your videos dealing with growing veggies from seed to harvest. Very informative. Please add info as to dates of sowing, transplanting and harvesting. Also the climate temps at each stage.
This info would be useful to those of us who do not live in your area.

Yes that would be most helpful since I'm a beginner gardener using 5 gal buckets. Thank you you've given me a great start in what to do in growing vegetables.❤😊👍

love the way the place is looking. since last time I saw any of your vids, we've relocated ourselves. now out of the big city on two acres with lots of oak trees. about 1/4 - 1/2 acre open and ready to plant. going to have to put up 8' deer fencing like you did. they eat EVERYthing!!! Can't even have flowers. Moved during Snowmageddon here in South Texas, and it was an adventure to be sure! Looking forward to getting back to growing things! God Bless, and keep em coming!
