Ain't no gettin offa the essential tips train! Tip #5 is the most important by far. There is also timestamps in the description if you wanna skip around.
Actually the overhead is an air move cuz when u mash light and hit them out of it their in the air but u cant 2h it because the start up of 2h isnt quik enough to punish it.
Thats not proof every move has startup to it u can be beat by a falling normal using 2h if ur not quik enough, same thing here i could be wrong but i dont think so. Also im not talking about them air recovering im saying they use the overhead i hit light and then jump cancel to continue an air combo and when that light hits their clearly off the ground.
One thing that's been helping me greatly in ranked is actually starting out every session in casual mode. This is to avoid tilting due to missed combos and pressure or running into a strong opponent straight off the bat while you still haven't quite found your footing yet. Great vid as always roof! I'll be waiting for your Cell part 2 and Goku Blue videos :D
Plenty strong people in casuals as well, sometimes they wanna try a new team, sometimes they just don't want the stress of ranked. But yes its also what I do, my first few games every day are casual match just to give me a mental "warmup"
Tip #6 If you're fighting a monster who is comboing you continuously, don't ragequit ! Just put the controller/stick on the table and wait for the end of the match ! Most of the time, they won't even notice the difference 👍
I appreciate the tip you gave on keeping your composure when you have your character on low health. That's so important I feel like often times I just wanna switch out but I should know that I'm still in the fight.
Any chance we can get a video about advantage and who's "turn" it is? It was mentioned in this video but I would love a more advanced guide that discusses who has the advantage after using certain moves. That is something I struggle with.
Jordan Tahami it varies from character to character for their individual moves, but for the general moves, the teleport is plus on block which means it's the turn of whoever attacked, honing dash is slightly negative, so it's the turn of the defender but they'll have time to block or air dash away if they're quick. A blocked Dragon rush puts both people in neutral, effectively making it either persons turn. The forward medium is neutral as mentioned in the video. In my experience you'll see a lot of people end their combos with a kamehameha or whatever beam, this is minus on block, but it pushes you away so you can't really punish it so you should learn to reflect these instead. If you're in a corner though you may be able to punish a beam with a light attack. If goku black ends his combo with the grab kamehameha you can sneak a heavy in the start up of that with some practice.
Not a bad idea although this being a game with assists the concept of whose turn it is gets a bit muddled, as you can do a negative move and lose your "turn" but call and assist and steal it back. But still I never thought of making a video about it so maybe I will make one in the future.
Just to be clear about a mechanic here: the universal overhead (6M) does count as an aerial move. The reason you can't stuff it in the situation you demonstrate is because you are in block stun and can't start up the 2H fast enough. However, If you were to do say... L L 6M 6M as the block string. And block the first 6M, then 2H the second, then you will see that it does indeed stuff it. Great content. Love it dude. =D
It is 100% not an aerial move. It is not triggered by anti-air property moves such as 2h or cells perfect attack. You can test it yourself by trying to have the bot overhead you over and over and 2h'ing it. You will not gain any invincibility frames against it and you will never see it say "anti air" like every other aerial move.
I started playing last night and im a frieza clan rank and im still wonng most of my sets but i noticed i was losing slightly more. This is really helpful thank you bro.
Hey man, first of all i like your video's! You've learned me alot. Could i just ask you something or give a tip? Could you maybe try to make these videos a little shorter? You spent alot of time explaining something really easy (like looking at the assist timer) and repeat yourself alot, this makes me less concentrated :D keep up the good work!
Adding into your last tip. For 1 meter, you can switch to another character during pressure by doing a QCF/QCB and the assist button. So you could essentially zone and then switch to safely get that next character out without approaching or playing risky. It's character dependant, but most characters can safely switch during pressure this way. Also, it's always best to use specials instead of Kai Blasts so you don't get punished by Super Dash in that scenario though.
Can you do a regular heavy against an overhead? Like if 16 does his charge will the armor take the hit and continue on or will the overhead still go through?
Another good video man! I found your channel awhile back and ive been loving your vids ever since. Also who do you want for dlc in dbfz? I personnally dont want the leaks to be true and want janemba or dabura so we can get another sword user
I don't want the leak list to be true, but its true. I've never seen a datamine list be incorrect, ever. I would much prefer like Roshi, jiren, and the saiyan girls but thems the breaks.
I know this is a (relatively) older video now, but I had a question about 1:36 -- "for all intents and purposes, as far as the game is concerned: [universal overhead] is considered a grounded move" -- I saw another beginner tips & tricks video that suggested that universal overhead IS counted as an air normal move because you can air dash cancel it when you have sparking activated (like you can for other airborne normal moves). Do you think your statement is still accurate or is that just a special exception with sparking?
You are in the air, but not considered air borne. Moves that are listed as "anti air" don't work on universal overhead, or the regular old down+Heavy. Move is probably flagged differently than other moves.
Tbh, fighting against people who has that never-give-up mentality made me less conservative about saving meter and other resources. Always go for the kill if you can kill.
I'm still fairly new, but I'm finding one of the best ways is just to learn how to punish super dashes with 2H on reaction. Where I am down at Earthling, people rip this raw all the time.
My Two main issues on this game is trying to jump while blocking (I had only learned recently that doing that makes me open and doesnt work). And I always overestimate how far my characters reach. For example, my team is Goku, Goku(SSGSS), and Gogeta. Whenever I finish blocking their attacks, i try using light attacks, just to miss that light attack and end up getting hit instead. And that annoys me the most. I tried switching it up by trying to use a Medium attack after blocking so i can make that reach, but the opponent still continues to hit me first. So Im kinda lost as to whether i should try jumping and air dashing behind them, THEN attacking? Or stay on the block? Because my characters dont have very far reach...so whenever i try Going for an attack, i always end up getting hit first.
About the low health character. If they are very low health don't they have a bit less option? I'm specifically thinking about those moments when both characters hit each other at the same time and both get damaged. You can't risk those at low health. Of course that's nothing major but that is technically a bit less option to work with. Also tenshinan but that's quite specific =p
if you are on the ground and get a wall bounce, most characters can dash 2m and catch them before they hit the ground. Then you can do a pretty standard string after that and it tends to be the most optimal. Ki blasts assists and supers tend to combo too. If you get a raw vanish, theres usually not much you can truly get off it without assists as you need the wallbounce after vanish to follow it up.
Well if you see the spark just hit any button as fast as you can is the easiest answer. Also keep in mind a dragon rush can't hit you if you are airborne at all(assuming grounded). Even if you are 1 frame of animation off the ground the rush will miss.
I keep fluctuating from supreme Kai to super saiyan 2, it’s so frustrating, I guess I just gotta keep working at it my main team I’ve been using is gotenks:B, super baby 2:A, and Frieza:C

I never know what to do after hitting them with an over head after they are blocking. The move is too slow and I have time for nothing else after they are hit when they down block.
Well if you hit them with the overhead, it means its your turn and anything you do will beat them out basically for the most part unless its really slow. Keep in mind you can overhead + most assists and then keep the pressure flowing.
rooflemonger I know but when I am on my last character like lets say Goku Black. I do the over head and I immediatly press the light attack but somehow they are fast enough to block and since I am on my own I can't use assist. I know I can dragon rush but its pretty slow and predictable

That's something that really messed with me for a while too. If they are doing that its time to stop being hyper offensive cause they will catch you. You can start tossing whatever projectiles you deem appropriate and work from there. Someone who is constantly airborne also won't have much in the way of a reliable stopper against homing dashes so you can use that to work your way in if they keep jumping.

As long as you not cornered, you can absolutely backdash right after blocking it. Generally speaking its fast enough to block on reaction but not quite fast enough to hit out on reaction if that makes any sense. Deflecting it if you see it also very valid.
