Talkin' bout Neutral! This one more beginner/novice focused, you vets out there probably won't get much out of it. No timestamps on this one as its basically a continuous thought process/discussion throughout. Hope I am not too rambly and you get some value out of it! Its honestly hard to talk about neutral and break it down.
Saya, I dunno, probably has to do with watching wrestling growing up and always rooting for the big guys like Andre, Earthquake, and Vader. Just a fan of the big guys. Like in original DBZ the Nappa fight is one of my favourites cause its many vs 1 solo Juggernaut of a person.
I made this comment on another video but idk if you seen it, but I wanted to ask you about team composition. My current team is Android 21, either SS Goku or Goku Black, and then Freeza or Adult Gohan. Any thoughts? Any changes I should make? I enjoy all characters so if you think I'd do better with someone like Nappa then I'd swap, I just want someone else's opinion on it. Love the videos btw!
My favorite thing about rooflemonger is that he's not afraid to plainly explain basic FG concepts to newcomers. Too much of the FGC act like this stuff should be common sense to new players and it's not. Keep up the videos my dude!!
I always enjoy reading/hearing about people discuss neutral in fighting games because it's such a basic concept on the surface with so much depth that you end up touching on the things that are really important for each person.
10:10 not related to the video but holy shit I just noticed you can see cloud shadows traverse across the arena. The love and attention to detail the developers put into this game is pretty remarkable
I knew next to nothing about fighting games when dbfighterz came out, but videos like these helped me get ever so close to that 530.000 BP trophy. Good work, man, keep em coming!
As a vet MKX player, i picked up DBFZ with 100% Confidence. This game is a whole different ball park and i was getting smacked around in neutral literally every game. Even for some of the more experienced players, @rooflemonger explains the options you have specifically to this game. I learn somthing new every time i watch this channel, keep it up man.
I don’t know why but to me you sound like nostalgic critic almost! Haha. Great video as always! Had the game since release date and I am still bad at neutral play so thanks for the video!
Great video! Would recommend to sf players! I play a decent amount of sfv and was really confused on how you're suppose to play neutral in this game. But you made the connection between the neutral in sf and dbfz very smooth and easy to understand. Thanks!
Awesome just one thing; since this is intended for beginners i only suggest that you emphasize on using your assist more while trying to get the advantage in neutral
Great vid thanks, maybe have a vid in the near future about who has the fastest normals? Like break it up into who has the fastest lights meds and heavys by category? would be useful info. Thumbs up (for the video not this message)
Thing about this game that annoys me is the buttons.. people press buttons all day, after super dash, after vanish etc and they always win! Should I use reflect here? I’m pretty good at 2H a superdash but the ones I block my opponent always beats my standing L afterwards. No such thing as punishment in this game lol.. what is unsafe in this game
And tha TV s why there is no neutral in this game. One character can be jammin on Jan all day but as soon as you try stepping up to your opponents mashing from hell you lose. This game gets me so pissed. This game has more neutral related to smash where you ate just throwing out moves and the small hit gets you fucked. It's frustrating as fuck.
One thing I see SonicFox do a lot for example to control neutral is use jump in specials like Goku Blacks aerial special kick or Vegetas aerial special kick
Bardock's light rebellion spear (236L) goes a good distance, and it is safe on block I believe. Oh and its startup is insanely quick. It's a pretty good way to get in there, imo. Calling in an assist with it is a good way to start the match, as well. Thanks for the video.
Very safe on block. Only -1. Bardock basically owns the big characters for free because of this cause he can do it and attack and still come out either first, or even, then keep mashing and you win out in the end anyways.
Hi, in my opinion I think neutral is only a condition when both player do not have the advantage. Trying to win neutral means trying to get the advantaged by either get the first hit/combo or make the opponent blocking for pressure.
Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm still new to this game but I feel like homing dash is really dumb and way too strong. I find myself constantly throwing out down heavy instead of playing the way I want to play because homing dash is abused way too much. Sure down heavy beats it but I find it hard to time it, I'll read the homing dash and still get hit because I didn't time it correctly, very frustrating. Do you have any tips?
Zephor Just be happy with the free damage from the enemy super dash (from your 2h) You'll eventually reach a point where people don't do it near as often.
Zephor have you gone into training mode and set the dummy to just homing dash at you? Get it in your muscle memory and it'll feel automatic during a match.
Glad to see you're still growing mate Your MvCI guides were divine; it was only logical that these would be just as good. If you happen to see this: are you still playing? Or no time?
Playing Marvel? Unfortunately not at the moment. Focused on DBFZ currently and honestly a lot of the people trying to force the "marvels dead" narrative are somewhat succeeding :( I only have online play to work with since I live in the middle of nowhere I don't have a scene or people to play with in person, and online for marvel is drying up.
rooflemonger DBZF will help your channel more; You should look into getting verified as it helps with your SEO in the YT algorithm - basically you will be in more users recommended for your fighting game content. I'm in NY so the scene at a local level feels still alive still.
I have a question I am running 21, Trunks and thinking of putting Gohan on my team but their assists just seem kinda useless so can you tell me what situations I should use Trunks 21 and Gohans assists
Well the only way to deal with them is hit him before the armour starts cause none of them start right away, or just block or otherwise not be in the way.
Hey rooflemonger! I was wondering if you could made the next let's learn dbfz on how to protect yourself from dragon rushes? That would be really helpful!
Well honestly I am not sure about making a video for it as its pretty simple. Either you tech it or get out of the way. Usually when people stop hitting buttons they are trying to go for a dragon rush. Is there something specific you are looking to be talked about?
The more experience you get, the better you’ll be able to deal with dragon rush. You’ll pick up on when ur opponent will attempt it and you’ll know how to avoid or tech out. It’s hard though sometimes online when the connection is less than great. It can be frustrating to get spammed when match is laggy
I know the chances of you replying to this are little to nothing, but I have been stuck at roughly 250,000-275,000 BP for almost 4 days now, and I've watched all your videos to try and help my game out a bit, I just don't have any form of instinct or timing when it comes to all these big combos you almost have to use if you want to win. As I said, I know it's a long shot, but if it's possible, like you're doing a stream or even just making a video, would it be possible for you to play a match or two with me so I can try to get better with my timing? I know I could always go into a practice match, but the AI is nowhere near as smart as you are in this game, and it takes to long to load into a casual. Also, situational help is always best in a situation. Plus I'd simply love to play with you. Long shot but worth it. Love the vids and keep them up!
Sure absolutely. I am not opposed to private matches but I have such a crazy schedule and my stream hours are the only ones I have fixed. If you can catch me on stream (and you can see the hours on the splash screen on twitch) all you have to do is ask and I would be more than happy to play with you.

rooflemonger i love how u starts ur vídeos,"Hello and welcome this is rooflemonger
Well I do it in honour of one of my favourite podcasts of all time, GFW radio. That's how they always started.
A Question,Why do you prefer the big bulky slower characters...Nappa,Broly etc?
Saya, I dunno, probably has to do with watching wrestling growing up and always rooting for the big guys like Andre, Earthquake, and Vader. Just a fan of the big guys. Like in original DBZ the Nappa fight is one of my favourites cause its many vs 1 solo Juggernaut of a person.

Sleepy Justin agreed!

"Some assists..." *Calls SsjVegeta* "...are better than others."
We're talkin' to you, Vegeta! XD
:-0
10:10 not related to the video but holy shit I just noticed you can see cloud shadows traverse across the arena.
The love and attention to detail the developers put into this game is pretty remarkable
Lot of detail and love in the background in this game.
Cease Benjamin Beast pretty cool, I've never noticed that. so much detail in a game where gameplay is so fast us never notice..
If only they made more stages
I knew next to nothing about fighting games when dbfighterz came out, but videos like these helped me get ever so close to that 530.000 BP trophy. Good work, man, keep em coming!
Keep at it and you will get it!
Honestly as someone who’s got an above average understanding of neutral game this helped a lot.
This is a good breakdown with lots of game-specific practical knowledge peppered in there
Really well thought out video, I've been trying to figure this out for awhile. I appreciate it dude!
As a vet MKX player, i picked up DBFZ with 100% Confidence. This game is a whole different ball park and i was getting smacked around in neutral literally every game. That thumbnail is why T.Gohan is favourite character in the show. No fear!
rookie1405 gohan fearlessly staring at Broly’s dick.
Lord Dio! 😂😂😂 better to show no fear then cry about what’s about to happen.
was just about to start my homework but I'd rather learn this instead
I don’t know why but to me you sound like nostalgic critic almost! Haha. Great video as always! Had the game since release date and I am still bad at neutral play so thanks for the video!

your videos on this game are the best. talking about the fundamentals is important
Very helpful video, you definitely got my like. Keep up the good work🤙🏽
Great video sir, this will help me to keep improving.
This is so helpful thanks for all the tips.
Very helpful man. Thanks again.
Great vid man. Its crazy how amazing this game is!
Yes! I just requested this thank you! :-)
I have a few ideas of more list styled things. However frame data still iffy for a lot of the characters so that one might be a bit.
More often than not I find myself turtling against fast characters like adult gohan and Vegito since I know I will get counter hit if I press a button
It's frustrating as fuck.
some assists REALLY are better than the others
+Justin Parris but the sensual beans help
Justin P 2 years later and you get TWO ROCKS!!
One thing I see SonicFox do a lot for example to control neutral is use jump in specials like Goku Blacks aerial special kick or Vegetas aerial special kick
Just got it for Switch...
will be going through the whole playlist
Bardock's light rebellion spear (236L) goes a good distance, and it is safe on block I believe. Oh and its startup is insanely quick. It's a pretty good way to get in there, imo. Calling in an assist with it is a good way to start the match, as well. Thanks for the video.

Could you make a video detailing the technicals of 2H?
Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm still new to this game but I feel like homing dash is really dumb and way too strong. I find myself constantly throwing out down heavy instead of playing the way I want to play because homing dash is abused way too much. Zephor i've no tips but i feel the same when i play with my friend. He does so many random homing dash and still beat me by gimmicky srubby playstyle
Android 12....
Android 12? I'm dyslexic.
Glad to see you're still growing mate

Nice video as always, would u mind doing a gotenks video :)
I agree!
Great vid bro
The title "The Neutral and You"
I dont know if you did this one yet, can you do a tutorial on how to do a mix up or how to start a mix up.
I cover some of that in the "how to create offense" video, check the channel!
I have a question I am running 21, Trunks and thinking of putting Gohan on my team but their assists just seem kinda useless so can you tell me what situations I should use Trunks 21 and Gohans assists
if 21 is point she can recombo off both their assists p. easily so I don't see an issue.
Could you do video about dealing with Brolys armored moves there really annoying :D
Well the only way to deal with them is hit him before the armour starts cause none of them start right away, or just block or otherwise not be in the way.
How do you beat someone low blocking in the corner
dragon rush them, overhead them, stagger your offense to try to get them to hit buttons and counterhit them.
4:01 Dw dude, I'm always calling her "18+3" for some reason...
Anybody know the name of the song he plays at the end of each video?
BeastlyBaws it's the London stage music for Capcom vs SNK2
@@testament0 Thank you 😭👏🏾
How many times did you imply that SSJ Vegeta's assist is broken XD
Its more that I just want other assists to be as good as his really.
What about if all assists were what he does?
What is the outro song
"This is True Love We're Making" from Capcom vs SNK 2.
Though true fans know that they're actually saying "This is Tuna with Bacon"
Go and play cvs2 u won't regret it
Really putting emphasis on that vegeta assist😂
🙊🙉🙈

Godlike Vegeta assist. I can’t stop using him
I want to use someone else but Vegeta assist feels so good.
Sure absolutely. I am not opposed to private matches but I have such a crazy schedule and my stream hours are the only ones I have fixed. If you can catch me on stream (and you can see the hours on the splash screen on twitch) all you have to do is ask and I would be more than happy to play with you.
rooflemonger was gonna ask u the same thing.. would really like to play someone with an intricate knowledge of the gAme
rooflemonger Im new to the twitch format...how exactly do I see your hours? I can't find the "splash" screen
splash screen is just the image that shows up at www.twitch.tv/rooflemonger when I am not actively live. I play wed/thur/fri starting at 7pm EST
How do you pronounce your name
rhoo-full
I only use Kid Buu assist in combos really.
Found it, thanks!
👍
playing neutral in this game is kinda ehh..
some kids just double jump non stop lol
!
!
Suuuuper helpful. Thanks a lot!
