Random blocking is also super useful for practicing the muscle memory of “do I press my combo buttons or my blockstring buttons?” once you see whether you got past their block or not.
I spend a lot of time in training. Some people could think it's boring and lame but....I don't know....I can stay 2 or 3h in row just to master some specific combos and other stuffs. And then I feel pumped up to try the new stuff online ! (sorry for my bad english :P)
xLeRock in my 25 years of playing fighters, training mode is my go to mode. I love spending hours perfecting my combos, learning tech, practicing defense. Training mode is a must if you want to get good. I've only played online for a week or two and I'm already a demon rank with over 500k bp.
Don't know if this has been said already. But you can move yourself to the corners with a stick by pointing it in the direction and pressing the button to reset positions. Can also point stick down to go back to neutral position.
Hey @rooflemonger, just wanted to comment anywhere on your videos to let you know that your videos are incredible. Thanks a lot for taking the time to make content this nice!
What I've been doing is fighting the CPU at 100 and just constantly putting myself in that high level fighting situation so that i can try to speed up my reaction timing and learning to be calm with my button presses instead of my usual mashing
The problem with that is the ai doesn't react like a real player, it can teach you a lot of bad habits. Its probably better to just go and play real people to train things like that, maybe play casual and don't worry so much about winning as nailing combos.
Although yes...obviously doing this to long can cause bad habits...when you're learning things like reflecting and downheavying super dashes and stuff like that this is pretty much the only thing I can think of in training mode to bring that out.... and seeing if I can get a combo started knowing my opponent is swinging back somewhat randomly helps when I'm in an actual caz or ranked match ...I still do this as a warm up too! for about 5 mins I'll play defense and about 5 minutes I'll play super agressively then I jump into a ranked
Rooflemonger, I fought you yesterday! You properly whooped my butt, but I was just excited that it matched us up on ranked. You were using pink characters and only needed Nappa XD. Thanks for all the great videos!!
Holy shit, 21 is my point and I am definitely copying that setup from the start, assuming Black’s Kamehameha functions similarly enough to Tien’s assist
You will get slightly less damage out of the combo since you can't combo as long as you can with tien (since the beam uses up more hits) but you still might be able to eek it out.
I don’t know if you’ve tested this, but the ground recoveries are not working after the pseudo-hard, sliding knockdowns. The dummy just stays in place regardless of whether you’ve configured him to wakeup with an « up » tech or any other option. Feels like a glitch or perhaps just something the developer has forgotten. Anyway, thanks for the video!
Hoom thats unfortunate. Although as I mention in the video the best way to test out setups is to have the dummy do them against you. Its a shame but this training mode not quite up to the par street fighter V has set.
Why when I fight CPU, he always techs out of combos faster than when I fight training dummy. I have the recoveries on but I can do way longer combos on training dummy than when I set CPU to fight back.
How do you practice meaty in this game? In SFV you can tell the dummy to jab on recovery to practice meaty so I was wondering if DBFZ have the same function?
Unfortunately DBFZ training mode not up to the same par as SFV's. That is not an option as far as I know. Best way is to have the dummy do your setup and defend/wakeup against it yourself.
But how do I turn off the switching feature in training mode it's super annoying when I'm trying to learn combos and then I get switched to the dummy :"/
i did that but it was just because it felt easier press the buttons in that order personally , M is slower so it seemed like a bad habit and i switched to LML. i dont think theres any actual reason besides preference but i could be wrong
If you do mll early on, you just get a bit more damage. Since scaling isn't maxed out yet starting with a medium just means a smidge more damage overall.
Its the same damage either way in most combos. For me personally I play 21 and trunks, on trunks I can't hit his LML2H at the top of his combo at all consistently but I can do it with MLL. On 21 I always go for the M first because of the muscle memory on trunks but also its got so much more range than L depending on where the enemy was when the combo started the L may not be able to hit and its far easier for me to gauge that after the M than after the knock up.
I really wish this game had a better indicator for highs and lows. The best way you can tell whether something is an overhead or low hit depends on what position you set them to while they block. If the dummy is standing Like normal, the dummy will always block high unless it's a low hit. If you set the dummy to crouch, the dummy will always block low unless it's an overhead. It's useful little way to differentiate....I just wish it wasn't the *only* way...
Hey Roof cn you do 5 essential tips to rank'n up..i put in the time learning some combos but I'm still get'n my butt kick'd in casuals..maybe review the tier colors & simple things we need to know in order to level up..
I need help. Can I use Gohan specifically for his lvls. Like, if I were to reset, I wouldn’t want to take the time to level up. Is there a settings we’re I can save the characters progress?
Plz help me Rooflemonger! i want to set the dummy to reversal light auto-combo everytime after they block to practice some frametraps, i pretty sure i can do that in sfv but couldnt find in dbfz yet.
I don’t understand how to set a recording to practice defense in training mode they make shit so pointlessly complicated. Just give me the option to hit record smh. Thankyou for this video
rooflemonger I know. Just wish I could do more setups on wakeup then just 214s/2h/iad 5h to catch mash on wakeup since everyone I fight tends to tech upwards. I guess I'm still too used to 1v1 games. Thanks for the response.
Hiting the lab... am i the only one that always used to say hit "the time chamber" ? Afterall, that ugly white room in SF4 game looked more like a the hyperbolic time chamber than a lab. Speaking of that, why the hell is the hyperbolic time chamber, Dende's palace and even the ground with the pillar that lead to Dende's palace not in the game ?
I'm practicing rejump combos in training mode, and I always practice with the enemy being a training dummy so its normally hard. But when I set the enemy to be controlled by a player, the rejumps and other combos are too easy. Is that normal and is that the same for ring and ranked matches?
@@Rooflemonger Its just that in normal training dummy mode, I have to get every detail right and still there's only a chance I do the whole combo. But when the enemy is in controller mode, i can get the first part(IAD M) wrong and still be able to reach and finish the combo.
Essential Tips can't stop won't stop! This one's got timestamps if you wanna skip around.

xLeRock im exactly the same, have more hours on training than online or campaign, i love the fact that i can look for matches while being on training
+Chris Santander oh yeah i forgot to mention about the matchmaking during the training 👍
Very useful

Oh thanks, I was wondering why my reset position keeps changing randomly.
Dude yes! Thank you

Your videos are always full of very useful information. I really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work bro :D
You are a scientist with a phd in dbz. Omg.
thanks for this video, I finally know how to save combos on the dummy.
Thanks for the details on the menu. Now I can apply more and not just ignore all those features.
Thank you so much, I was wondering why I was in different parts of the map whenever I reset
That bonus tip is helpful!! Thankyou
Thats awesome, gotta include dragon rush more in my combos, already knew about the features but its still a great video
Appreciate all the dbz content 👊🏾
Happy to be of help!
A few years late lol but if you hold forward back or down and press l3 + r3 it will move to corners like the touch pad.
Thank you for this! I wanted to know how to record your movements for the second player! 😄
How do you activate a dramatic finish in training mode?
Rooflemonger, I fought you yesterday! You properly whooped my butt, but I was just excited that it matched us up on ranked. You were using pink characters and only needed Nappa XD. Thanks for all the great videos!!

Excellent tips.
I was wondering why the hell training mode was taking me into the corner when I hit the PS4 pad... thought the game was broken haha
Do you have any training routines you recommend? Especially for someone who’s decent but definitely needs to go to the next level?
Here is a tip, beam supers do less dmg if you tag in an assist super too fast, it is best to wait for when the super is about to end.
Very nice. Thanks man.
So I am huge dragon ball fan and I was playing around with the training settings this method works with pc players as well.
Your theme is legit.

controlling the dummy is the same on xbox as it is Playstation, clicking the sticks
Can you make a video on why ppl are using MLL in their air combos now? Is it for more damage and stablity?
i did that but it was just because it felt easier press the buttons in that order personally , M is slower so it seemed like a bad habit and i switched to LML. i dont think theres any actual reason besides preference but i could be wrong

How do u make it so it starts with only 1 character on my team and such for tod
can you make a video on how combo with assists and keep combo going
LoneWolfSX 7 usually call out your assist before a hard knock down then dash
A_A_Ron 78077 thank u appreciate it
A_A_Ron 78077 would u finish with spike
LoneWolfSX 7 spike or super

You can always just record the moves on the dummy then try to block them yourself to learn.
Any can help me mostly annoying part of other team many time for training
On stick, I just press direction and select to change spawn positions.
Ain't none of my ps4 sticks have a "select" button so that don't work for me :-0
rooflemonger rip

I could, but a lot of it would be things you know deep down inside like "calm down" heh.
I hear ya Roof.. I'm goin back into the lobby now wish me luck lol
I'll try to think of some applicable things here, the idea isn't without merit. Might take a hwile to brainstorm it up though.
I need help. Can I use Gohan specifically for his lvls. Like, if I were to reset, I wouldn’t want to take the time to level up. Is there a settings we’re I can save the characters progress?
Theres a thing called character settings in training mode, you should be able to set your gohan level there

When I try to techtrap with grab I get mashed out hard every time. Feelsbadman.
Well then of course its the game of catching their mash etc etc, nothing's gonna be free.

Hyperbolic time chamber, kame house, the lookout, all probably gonna be in the next revision of hte game.

Please do a video for gohan ( teen) !
I will get around to as many characters as I can in time!
It keeps making me switch teams during training how do I stop that?
how does it make you do that? You dont have to switch at all once you pick
@@Rooflemonger it just randomly switches teams its weird
I used to push on the r stick without knowing it when I was doing a combo I just learned. Make sure to not push on the r stick.
Are training mode & practice the same thing?
Yeah
Lol 2 years after
Hmm this guys pretty good at this game 😄
I'm alright, there are many people out there much better than me out there.
