i don't know if people know this, but if you hold left or right when you reset in training, it puts you in the left or the right of the screen. i found this usefull when practicing corner combos and not needing to push the dummy into the corner.
Thank you! I go to this video game bar in Orlando, which has Fighterz set up. I'm doing pretty good in the game, but I tell my opponents that I'm still learning. An awesome player pointed me to you, so now I'm watching all of your vids.
Thanks friend I appreciate it! Although commenting on this video specifically you might want to check on the newer 20 essential tips for new/returning players video I made. You can find it in the DBFZ season 3 playlist I put up, since this one is closer to the games release and stuff may be wrong or inaccurate now due to various patches, newer video is just better anyways lol
Dbfz is a lot deeper than people think, and this video proves it. That getting out of blue combos and alpha counter is extremely helpful. Thank you for your hard work 💪💯%
Thanks for using my 4 to cancel autocombo tip! I really wanted to tell more people but I don't have a big audience. Keep up the great videos. Your tip videos are helping me learning my first ever 3v3 fighter :D
You did it again. This is sure to save my ass and the asses of many others as well. You're doing the Saiyan God's work, my man. I really appreciate you for sharing all of this information with us.
Did you know that assist cooldown actually resets while your opponent is still in blockstun while sparking is active? Normally your assists won’t start their reset timer until your opponent is out of hitstun or blockstun.
Very useful tips bro. I didn’t know about the last character alive alpha counter. Just adds more layers to the game, and it’s already full of layers. Love it!
That tip about getting out of combo is godlike, i was getting caught everytime i tried to get out of a combo, so definitely gonna use that. Btw, you know how if you do a raw lvl 3 it turns all dmg done into blue hp? Turns out it's not only a lvl 3 property, if you start any combo with an attack that is invincible frame 1 the same happens. I tested with vegeta's ex knee and vanished after for a combo and it checks out, also did the same for both gohan's ex jet upper. I also tried to go for big sparking combos just to see if the problem was the combo being too small or not very damaging, but the dummy just got 5k dmg of blue hp... Anyway cool video, keep it up man!
Good stuff as always. A tip for beating light-happy players is to end your strings with a slight delay where you cancel the last hit into a vanish comboable special (kamehameha, fireball etc). Them not blocking can net you good damage here and if they block it all, still your turn. Alot of players aren't at all aware that they are minus on blocking a vanish, it almost defies logic tbh.
Hey, Vanish isn't plus on block. It's actually 0, but because your landing frames cancel your recovery frames, you end up plus if the opponent is in the ground. So if you Vanish while your opponent is in the air, you actually end up minus because the opponent lands first as Vanish will always put you above the opponent.
About the bonus tip at the end. It's worth noting that the double jab is character specific. Frieza and Cell for instance don't do two jabs on the ground, but characters like all the three Gokus, Piccolo or say, Tien, do. So, for characters who don't, you might want to hold back only after the second hit of the auto combo.
Happy to be of help! For someone like me who has been playing fighting games for 20+ years its easier for me to discover stuff than most people, if these videos help save your time then I am glad it helped.
I actually was holding back and was wondering why my auto combo WASN'T coming out. I tend not to mash, but the first two hits of the auto combo are great for hit confirming. And usually the second hit covers some ground.
There have been so many times where I'm trying to guard cancel and tag in a teammate and it wasn't working so I got annoyed. I didn't even realize that it uses a freaking bar to do! Wow now I feel like a complete idiot for never realizing that lmao
OMG! that holding that one button!! that will save me, I'm top 8 on a tournament and will be going back for the qualifiers! that is really helpful! thanks!!!
Hey, have you covered the Sparking empty vanish in a video yet? When you're in Sparking and you press and hold M+H, you will teleport but you won't attack. You can also do any of your other attacks instead. It threw me off a couple times in the beginning and lost me some matches haha because I didn't know.
Also if you're assist is on countdown and you caught the opponent in a combo, the countdown will freeze until you stop doing dmg. And, a super assist ignores the countdown.
Any tips on how to stop sucking? Also, did you know that you can actually call both your assists at the same time? Haven't seen that tip anywhere, and I don't find it that useful, but it looks cool.
Question, does the vanish teleport work the exact same as the guard cancel assist on the last character? If not, what are the disadvantages compared to the guard cancel assist vanish (or alpha counter, make it easier to distinguish haha)
Hey rooflemonger, Great content as usual. Haven’t been able to find any kind of frame data online. Found a spreadsheet for damage and that’s about it. Any way you could piece together a video on what’s punishable and what’s safe(normals and specials)? At this point I’m still kinda guessing.
Actually got a video in mind for just that coming very shortly. Using an old school trick I used back in the playstation 1 days for fighting games. I don't got a list of numbers yet and people are slowly getting them together but hopefully that will come in time.
So I'm coming from Tekken 7 to this game and I'm really bad when it comes to timing assists for combos as well as applying pressure. Half the time I get someone in the corner they just mash their way out and happy birthday my assist character. Any plans to do a video for assists specifically?
There's no video for it friend, its simply timing. I know it can be awkward coming from a different game but just follow the old rule. If your assist came out too early, time it for later. If your assist came out too late, time it earlier.
Question: Does this game 'queue up' commands during Super Flashes, a la MvCI? What I mean is, just like you can hold a button to automatically flip out of blue combos at the first available frame, can I hold Vanish during Super Flashes so that it procs at the first available frame, or do I still have to mash like a madman to escape raw Level 3's? I loved being able to hold the Monster Hunter's command roll during raw Supers in MvCI to punish mashing opponents, and have been trying (unsuccessfully) to replicate this with Vanish in this game.
Thanks for the help! I find my self panicking when getting raw Super'd in this game since my attempts to mash out a reflect or Vanish are usually stuffed, but I will keep trying. These guides and PSA's you are doing are life savers, friend, and I hope you know how useful your help is being to quite a few people (myself included, of course).
Hey rooflemonger, about the " street fighter style alpha counter" when you're down to the last character, could you jump cancel the hit to start a combo? Could the hit be cancelled into sparking blast?
My friend dropped a super into spirit bomb combo but I still got hit because I mashed one too many times. I died. Now you're telling me I could've just held the button, and I died a little inside.
rooflemonger based on what we know, it's likely they didn't. Just look at the last Japanese event or the one sonic fox won, No one used it as no one new it was a thing.
blue combo means your combo is prone to dropping or otherwise not crisp, and the enemy has a chance to flip out of it. Guard cancel you can do while blocking, and you can't vanish while blocking. Its a much safer method of evading pressure. If you sit there just trying to mash vanish while you are in the corner there's a good chance you are gonna get smacked. Let alone fighting a good player anticipating it who is just gonna down+heavy you on reaction and kill your character.
Just gotta be more calm friend. Some auto-combos have unique properties and are used even in high level play. Just gotta play more and get more comfortable
Thanks for the tips in your videos i picked gogeta as my first charakter and now understand what u meant with the high level play and the auto combos love this game
when what we call hitstun decay runs out, but the enemy didn't do anything and just gets hit again. You can see hitstun decay in the training mode. Basically its what prevents combos from going on forever, more hits = harder to get each successive hit.
With most combos I am getting high in the air and hard knock down my enemies, but before I land they basically get up again. What I saw other people (and Coms) do is an instant landing move so they can go straight down pretty fast. Hiw do I do that?
Compared to Mortal Kombat 11's Training/Tutorials, it's kinda disappointing the amount of stuff the game doesn't tell you. Edit: 17 tips total. I learned 14 of them. Thanks.
I decided to go back to playing xenoverse. After one match I couldn't take it I lost to a guy who was hitting me across the map *MY TIME SKIP IS UNBEATABLE* I love FighterZ and despise xenoverse when it comes to online
Here's a video that needs to be made FUCK'IN auto combos! During the beta, that made me really iffy about the game- I feel like I didn't earn any thing using it. At least in other 2D fighters it's not permanent, but here you can't even get rid of it.
The year is 3173, rooflemonger is at his 6871246th 5 essential gameplay tips video. Legend says he will never stop.
That hold to tech out of a combo is really good advice.
This game just gets deeper and deeper, I love it.
*basic fighting game mechanic but heavily simplified and streamlined*
"Wow this game is really deep"
i don't know if people know this, but if you hold left or right when you reset in training, it puts you in the left or the right of the screen. i found this usefull when practicing corner combos and not needing to push the dummy into the corner.
Very handy I use it all the time.
Alenfishman omg I never knew that I always got mad cause when I reset it sometimes put me in the middle or opposite side for no reason
Thank you! Holding down light and the assistless gaurd cancels are complete gamechangers!
The whole world needs to watch every single one of these videos because you’ve given more tips than all other youtubers that people dont know of .
Hey if it helps, all I can ask is spread it around so other people can learn the knowledge.
I so guess with these 3 videos combined we are up to uh, 17 essential tips now?
Park Ranger Android 17 confirmed?
Thank you! I go to this video game bar in Orlando, which has Fighterz set up. I'm doing pretty good in the game, but I tell my opponents that I'm still learning. An awesome player pointed me to you, so now I'm watching all of your vids.
Well happy you find these videos of help friend!
Worth noting is that when using a raw Vanish during block pressure, the combo will be scaled down in damage quite a bit.
I didn't know you could do a counter switch without any allies left, thank you so much!
The reasons I like watching your videos are because you talk nicely and focus on what we are here for. Thank you for that.
Thanks friend I appreciate it! Although commenting on this video specifically you might want to check on the newer 20 essential tips for new/returning players video I made. Huh really? I had no idea. Very good to know friend.
Very useful tips bro. I didn’t know about the last character alive alpha counter. Just adds more layers to the game, and it’s already full of layers. Love it!
#1 , #3, #5 are crucial tips IMO
wow holding the button instead of mashing while you're getting combe'd is HUGE I always mashed and felt like an idiot doing so, great job finding that
Does it matter which button you hold? Do they do different things?
That tip about getting out of combo is godlike, i was getting caught everytime i tried to get out of a combo, so definitely gonna use that.
Btw, you know how if you do a raw lvl 3 it turns all dmg done into blue hp? Amazing video bro, so useful. Some of this info is legit a game changer!
Good stuff as always. A tip for beating light-happy players is to end your strings with a slight delay where you cancel the last hit into a vanish comboable special (kamehameha, fireball etc). That bonus tip... Thanks.
Hello Roof, I really enjoy your breakdowns and tips for this game keep it going thanks.
Will do, plenty more coming!

Wait I don't have to piano the buttons to get out? Woooah thats actually really nice
I have short time to practice, and your vids are helping me to Deal with It. Thank's!
Happy to be of help! For someone like me who has been playing fighting games for 20+ years its easier for me to discover stuff than most people, if these videos help save your time then I am glad it helped.
That bonus tip so clutch
I actually was holding back and was wondering why my auto combo WASN'T coming out.
I tend not to mash, but the first two hits of the auto combo are great for hit confirming. And usually the second hit covers some ground.
That capcom vs snk at the end is dope
There have been so many times where I'm trying to guard cancel and tag in a teammate and it wasn't working so I got annoyed. I didn't even realize that it uses a freaking bar to do! Wow now I feel like a complete idiot for never realizing that lmao
Another great tutorial! I'm glad I found your channel. You're helping me a lot on my harsh road to git gud x)
Thanks for the hint on teching. I've gotten so tired or mashing and eating a raw level 3
Awesome as always, thanks for making the vid
OMG! that holding that one button!! that will save me, I'm top 8 on a tournament and will be going back for the qualifiers! that is really helpful! thanks!!!
Can you cancel into Sparking or Vanish after the "Alpha Counter"? Sounds pretty OP if you can since the opponent can't defend themselves.
Hey, have you covered the Sparking empty vanish in a video yet? When you're in Sparking and you press and hold M+H, you will teleport but you won't attack. You can also do any of your other attacks instead. It threw me off a couple times in the beginning and lost me some matches haha because I didn't know.
Hell yes! good shit Roof!
I actually surprised about this video, good job!
These tips are awesome!!
you are a god send so many useful things
Bonus tip made me smile
dang i didnt realize you could still do guard cancel solo. good stuff! still new!
Incredible video
Also if you're assist is on countdown and you caught the opponent in a combo, the countdown will freeze until you stop doing dmg. And, a super assist ignores the countdown.
Another great video roof you on fire bro!
those tips are REALY essential !
Any tips on how to stop sucking? Also, did you know that you can actually call both your assists at the same time? Haven't seen that tip anywhere, and I don't find it that useful, but it looks cool.
Thank you for telling me tip#3!!!
Question, does the vanish teleport work the exact same as the guard cancel assist on the last character? If not, what are the disadvantages compared to the guard cancel assist vanish (or alpha counter, make it easier to distinguish haha)
How can this game have so much hidden game mechanics lol Thx for the tips
ZED END made to be competitive... Those people always dig deep into it because thats where fighting games are at their best
Yeah I share the same opinion but did not expect it
Hey rooflemonger,
Great content as usual.
Saw the vid. You're awesome

Fair enough. Back into the lab. Lol
I'm having a lot of trouble with Assist DHC the version that doesn't require your main super first. Whenever I try to DHC it quick tags instead
Love you Roof! 😍
10:00 I taught him that
Excellent Tips!!! 👍
Omg. I actually learned something new on this one
Question: Does this game 'queue up' commands during Super Flashes, a la MvCI? I loved being able to hold the Monster Hunter's command roll during raw Supers in MvCI to punish mashing opponents, and have been trying (unsuccessfully) to replicate this with Vanish in this game.
As for a buffer I can't science it out but there seems to be a small frame buffer yes. However you can't do it too early or it won't work.
Could the hit be cancelled into sparking blast?
you can cancel any hit into sparking blast yet. However the hit is not special cancelable as far as I have seen.
This game is just so deep.
Great tips, thanks for the info, also, what is the name of the ending song you use in your videos ??? :D
true love we makin - capcom vs snk2
My friend dropped a super into spirit bomb combo but I still got hit because I mashed one too many times.
I died.
Now you're telling me I could've just held the button, and I died a little inside.
Yay another video!
Did you find the alpha counter yourself? I didn't even think to try that, that is amazing and will change the game from now on.
well im sure plenty people discovered it before me, but I got it just trying to figure out what guard cancel does with no team left.
rooflemonger based on what we know, it's likely they didn't. Just look at the last Japanese event or the one sonic fox won, No one used it as no one new it was a thing.
Your amazing dude thanks
that guard cancel mechanic is pretty important, what were they thinking not putting these things in the tutorials?
TheTsulz it is in there
It's in there but not when you have 1 person left that part isn't in there
Shishou Pierre it is
I have 2 questions.
One, what's a blue combo? Two, why use that guard cancel trick instead of vanish?
blue combo means your combo is prone to dropping or otherwise not crisp, and the enemy has a chance to flip out of it.
Nice video!
THANKS
You can't kill with dragon rush , can you kill with Z guard cancel hit?
Haven ot tested it, but those styles of moves historically have never been able to kill.
Could you please do a tips for vegetables blue
Does anyone else wonder whats in Hit's pockets? He obviously uses them or he wouldn't even think to put his hands in when he walks.
Are you gonna smash these videos together eventually? Just curious, lol great content as always!
I think they are fine enough separate. If I put em all together video would be like some 40 minute monstrosity.
Thanks for filling the curiosity! I figured it'd be long, but FeelsGoodMan when RoofleMonger vid uploads. :D
HOLY SHIT, THAT LAST TIP!!! WOW
Is there a way to turn off auto combos im training not to do them but in online matches i start to mash when im pressured -.-
Just gotta be more calm friend. Some auto-combos have unique properties and are used even in high level play. Just gotta play more and get more comfortable
Thanks for the tips in your videos i picked gogeta as my first charakter and now understand what u meant with the high level play and the auto combos love this game
how do i beat guard canceling
Well its all a matter if you know its coming. If you do you can easily down+heavy the incoming guard cancel.
Thanks bro I needed this I got 450,000 bp online and this is just the one feature that pissed me off I’m also a pink rank once again a great video
What makes a combo go blue?
when what we call hitstun decay runs out, but the enemy didn't do anything and just gets hit again. You can see hitstun decay in the training mode. Basically its what prevents combos from going on forever, more hits = harder to get each successive hit.
You know, I thought I was just bad at teching. Well I guess I was lol, thanks for the tips
Really nice videos 😎
Thanks! Still plenty more coming as well.
rooflemonger Never thought that this Dragon Ball Z game will have so much hidden things in it's combat system.
Oh. You can just hold lightpunch. Wow. X)
u da goat
Thanks bud
You are A GOD
With most combos I am getting high in the air and hard knock down my enemies, but before I land they basically get up again. What I saw other people (and Coms) do is an instant landing move so they can go straight down pretty fast. Hiw do I do that?
Uh gohan can land instantly but hes the only one I know of.
rooflemonger yeah, found out about that too. It's sad because the move has so much potential ti either extend or end combos.
Would it be possible to do a “reversal” if your assists are on cooldown?
Reversals have nothing to do with your assist cooldown.
How do you guard cancel
While in blockstun press forward + assist
Compared to Mortal Kombat 11's Training/Tutorials, it's kinda disappointing the amount of stuff the game doesn't tell you.
Edit: 17 tips total. I learned 14 of them. Thanks.
4:40 HOLY
Thanks bro
Wait, all I had to do was hold back?? God bless
I feel like I'm just getting worse at the game. l didn't know that was possible
Lack of knowledge isn't a downside, fighting games are made to be learned!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I decided to go back to playing xenoverse. After one match I couldn't take it I lost to a guy who was hitting me across the map *MY TIME SKIP IS UNBEATABLE* I love FighterZ and despise xenoverse when it comes to online
...You’re safe on vanish?! Why?!
costs a bar, easy to punish when you know it's coming.
But what if the opponent is a she?
Here's a video that needs to be made
FUCK'IN auto combos! During the beta, that made me really iffy about the game- I feel like I didn't earn any thing using it. At least in other 2D fighters it's not permanent, but here you can't even get rid of it.
the game seams fun sofar, but the auto combo mech may kill the game for me.
Well I've never got fully into GG or Kof - I've played more popular tittles and those where the ones I was referring to.
yeah-they may be easy to beat and are useful in the air, but that doesn't address the feeling of unearnedness added to the game.
I didn't read your reply. I thought I told you to not respond, Baka.
