1 hour Yin Yoga Splits Training Class - Yoga for Hamstring & Hip Flexibility

    A few weeks ago I was asked to create a class that would help students prepare for splits pose and so I've created this 50 min Yin Yoga class that will help you do just that! Even if splits is not a part of your practice, these long held stretches will drastically improve your hip, hamstring and quad flexibility, all of which are required for the splits.
    You will need a block or two as well as a strap for this class. If you have a smaller bolster, grab that too!
    What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is often called the Yoga of the joints because unlike other styles of yoga, the emphasis is not on the muscles but on the deep connective tissue. Connective tissue is made up of fascia, ligaments and tendons which surround and form your joints. Yin yoga improves the range of motion in your joints and also strengthens them. The results and benefits are more flexibility and greater range of motion and also more stability within your joints.
    There are 3 principles of Yin Yoga.
    1. Find your edge
    2. Be still
    3. Hold the pose
    Use as many props as needed in Yin Yoga! Blocks, bolsters and straps are all great ways to support your body to make sure you are respecting your edge and not going too far.

    This is the very first time I watch your video and I actually got down on the block with both legs extended!! I'm 36 & never took dance or gymnastics so that is a huge accomplishment :) BEST splits flow hands down! And I also love the pace and tone. You take your time between transitions which lets us follow along and keep up.

    I LOVE these longer holds!!! It is the only thing that releases tight muscles!! Most yoga is too fast. Good for strength but not flexibility. Thank you for your video!!

    190622 quite possibly perfection. When I started the class, I didn't know it was Yin, which I often don't enjoy so much. But, this was perfect for my frame of mind, the day, my flexibility today, everything. Three years ago when I started Yoga, I would never have thought the splits possible for me. It wasn't very easy & I was perched on a block all the time, but I was there, in the Splits. Wow! Thank you, namaste.

    Yay! My first day of the splits challenge. I found it OK. Loved the kitty and so did my cat, blocking the screen whilst he was looking at him!!!

    I was w a 9 yr old talking about doin splits. This came up a cpl days later so .....at 59 i can do splits too! Love ya!

    Every two weeks, I do this one. I alternate it with three other yin yoga class focused on the legs of your channel. Do one of them each week.

    I did this video today since I''ve been specifically stretching for the front splits for the last two weeks. I feel that this Yin practice opened my hamstrings much more than anything else!

    I'd seen the title of this video and have even watched it some of it a few times before practicing, I finally had time to do it and I really enjoyed it. My body felt wonderful after the long day of work I had. I am working towards my front splits and will definitely include this as part of my routine.Thank you!

    I love these classes. I wanted to recommend to let the final resting pose go on for a few minutes. I put the video on, have a good class, go to last pose, BLASTED WITH COMMERCIAL!! or maybe I just turn off autoplay.

    Loved it, would it be great to have perhaps a shorter class ( 20 or 30 min) exclusively as routine to reach the splits, would love to do it before or after your post workout deep stretch class

    Love love love this one! I almost have my front split. Would you recommend repeating the split with the blocks a couple times at the end of the practice or is it best to just do it once?

    Kassandra, how often would you recommend I do the splits training class?

      It's very difficult to generalize for everyone but I would say start at twice a week and if it feels good, increase it to 3 or maybe even 4. I know for my body twice a week would be plenty. xx

    Do we need to warm up before doing this and other body opening and deep stretching yoga routines??

      +May Mufeez No, we will warm up the body with these yin yoga poses to prepare the hamstrings for splits pose. However, if you do another type of warm up before doing yin yoga you might find the poses easier, so it's not a bad idea :)

    Hi Kassandra! I have always wanted to do the spits so I am really excited to start this challenge. At the end of the video when we do the half splits can you clarify how to hold the pose for someone that can't go into the splits at all. Do I just keep my front leg straight the whole time if that's as far as I can go? It is such a long time to hold such an awkward position.
