Tried it following a diff video thinking it was gonna be easy but it took me 10 hrs because i stripped the tri screws and had to destroy the old shells pretty much
@@Yukeena I never done it but I have done all of the dsses and alot of other things but not this so I bought 20 different clear cases and a set to try it I start Tomorrow. Hopefully people are going to be making some cool joy cons and I won't mess it up but honestly if you have some experience and the tools it's not that bad I don't see anything I wouldn't be able to do but I understand if you have little experience It looks pretty hard and I get you dont want to risk it but maybe practise on a cheap ds lite and you will get there I promise :)
Great video, loved it! I just ordered a new set of shells for my joy con, and your video was the only one that was both easy to understand and straight to the point. Thank you! For everyone concerned, this process was pretty easy for me. I do have experience tinkering with small electronics, but I draw the line at using any kind of solder. So the fact that this one is just ribbon cables and screws meant that while it was tedious, I was able to do it no problem. Just take it slow, follow along with the video (I paused it and replayed it several times before and during the attempt), and don't be afraid. For me, the two trickiest bits were removing the plug from the rumble motors (I couldn't quite get a good grasp on them for some reason) and aligning the buttons (shaky fingers, I kept dropping them or moving the shell so they would pop out. It IS possible to put the release button in the wrong way and have the case seal, but you'll know you screwed up when you slide the joy con into your switch and it doesn't make that satisfying "click" noise. It will still work fine and everything, but I ended up just reopening the shell, moving it into the proper place, and resealing everything. Took 2 minutes. Overall, this project took me about an hour to do both shells. I had fun, and now I have a set of very cool glacial blue joy con that match the GBA from my childhood!
Glad I saw this video before I buy new shells. I'll just stick with the one I already have. Good video nevertheless, its just kinda tricky and not worth the trouble for me
Good video, thanks. Helped me out a bunch. I've worked on laptops and modern cell phones, so I am accustomed to tiny screws and miniature zif sockets and the rest of it but these joycon still took me about an hour each to do. Now the ~$75 cost for a brand new set feels a bit easier to swallow, haha.
Omg I almost brought one that was missing a part like that blue shell, I managed to find a full one eventually, I want to watch all these videos on how to do it before I order first
Thank you very much for the tutorial, that helped me a lot turning my switch to total black! I just found unecessary to remove the vibration system, everything else was preatty easy :D
I need help, I swapped my shells for my joycons. All the buttons work fine and everything works except for 1 thing for my right joycon. It can connect wirelessly to my switch but wont be detected when attached to the actual switch. Anyone know what i can do cause i cant play games with both joycons attached to the switch in handheld mode Edit: I fixed the issue a week after I originally commented, turns out I damaged the ribbon cable for the joycon rail. I had to buy a replacement ribbon cable so I could swap them out. Works perfectly fine now 👍
I had the same issue just the other day. The ribbon cable for the joycon rail isn't plugged in completely. Go back in and reinsert the cable to be properly connected and you'll be golden. Hope ya fixed this before I commented though and if I helped then glad to help. Lol
This happens to my new joycons I just bought! The right joycon keeps saying it’s disconnected when attached to the switch but works fine wirelessly and when in the joycon grip
If your having trouble with putting the battery plate back with the ribbon, unscrew it and connect it then put the battery plate on and screw it back. It’s already bent and folded so you don’t need to worry about breaking or ripping it just be careful.
Hey Jake, what brand are those shells? I'm just curious because I'm looking for a blue "+" shell of the exact color. Some that I find online have paint rubbing issues, where it peels after some time. Nice video btw!
Just curious, but can you charge a game stop or best buy or something like it to do this for you? I'm just worried that i would destroy my joycons doing this, as i'm inexperienced in these types of things, so...
Thank you! This was amazing but I have one question cause I might have screwed something up. My right joycon wont snap in place but it still connects, but when I move my hand up a little bit it just snaps out of place. Can I fix this?
I have a right joycon with all the striped screws, I've tried all methods to open it, no sucess. I'm now thinking about breaking the plastic, to use the interns with a new shell of these. Does that sounds like a good idea? xD
so i tried this and none of the buttons work except the joysticks. i went back in and unplugged the zl button and everything worked again except the zl button ofc. i tried to plug the zl button back in but i had the same problem with only the joystick working. i assume its a problem with the zl button but i dont know if i need to replace the ribbon cable or what. any ideas on how to fix this?

From my opinion the best manual for swaping shells ..thank you for that :)
dang i thought id be able to do this no problem… i don’t think im gonna risk it

It is a big pain in the ass. I wouldn’t recommend it
i would better wait for ut to have an issue so I wouldn't cry if I accidentally broke it
Yeah this looks like a huge pain in the ass

This video helped me when no other video could. Thank you so much

this is the clearest, easiest, and most detailed video on this.
Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!! I had to rewatch the video 1,000 times and it took more than hours, but it worked in the end!!!!😊
this is the hardest fucking thing ive ever done. this shit is way fucking harder than my friends told me it was.
Great step by step tutorial! Thanks for the video!
Thanks so much, I’m replacing my red+blue with light purple joycons at the end of this month and I’m super excited 🙂
I love watching joycon speed runs ❤

Omg I almost brought one that was missing a part like that blue shell, I managed to find a full one eventually, I want to watch all these videos on how to do it before I order first
Thank you thank you for helping me understand how to put back that damn flimsy cable where the ZR/ZL button is!

They look so good!! 🔥
I felt like it was easier for me to keep all wires still connected and swap shells. Right joy con a-little harder than the left joy con.

Thanks for the guide!!!
Great video! Do I need the anti-static mat and gloves for this?
I wonder if Nintendo made this controller tedious as hell to take apart to prevent people from repairing this themselves

Thanks!
I was almost done.......was on then the ribbon cable snapped 😭😭, but video was very good thank you
It still works fine...used some tape lol

Where did you get the new shells from?

Anyone happen to know the link to this purple + blue shell color combo?
Watching this video was a bad idea... I'm not capable. 😥
My right controller isn’t recognized when hooked into switch but works off switch
Maybe you damaged the one of the ribbon connectors of the joy con rail
I broke the ribbon cable for the rail
how do i change the middle part :/
which middle part?
What
Do you mean the slider?
@@GooberThe4th the part that has the other bumper on it cause i didn't want a purple joy con with a random red part on it. (fixed it now anyway)
. Poggers!
Speedrun?
This looks like such a pain in the ass.
On god. I was thinking about swapping joycon shells and selling them on marketplace as a little side hustle but this seems beyond tedious
my left one doesn’t work?
How doesnt it work? Like is one of the buttons unresponsive or is the whole controller not powering on?
