As most technical ppl have said, the old analog sticks have contact pads which eventually through normal or rigorous use, it will scratch through friction and will result in drift. Hall sensing in concept uses magnets so no contact happens inside the sticks. I guess we can say its not 100% perfect replacement for the stock but it is better in terms of durability. Though yes the rubber they used on the top analog is a bit slippery lol. Maybe on the next batches they'd fix those.

I agree people should treat their controllers well and keep their hands clean when using them, but that does not prevent stick drift at all. The sticks in modern controllers are actually just a lot worse and do not last as long as they used to. I'm saying this as someone who has not gotten drift yet (as far as I've noticed). It's a common enough issue in the last two gens that it should be pretty clear something is up. Plus, everyone is using the same cheap ALPS sticks from the same factory, so that's also why it's happening to all the first party controllers. I saw an interesting video a few weeks ago about how the old DualShocks (1 and/or 2 IIRC) would automatically calibrate with use, and they would encourage you to move the sticks around on loading screens so that they would stay calibrated. That meant that even heavily degraded old sticks should work fine once you've used them a little in that session. I'm not sure why this isn't a thing anymore or why no one else does it. (Also not sure why no one really uses hall effect sticks in their first party controllers anymore...)

I bought a pair of Gulikit joysticks for my switch (2 pairs total with the replacement which didn't fix it), started off completely fine but after around a month both started to drift, with the left one drifting far more. They can be recalibrated to zero easily enough but very quickly fall out of calibration and start drifting again within a matter of minutes. So much for fixing the drift problem, at least with the original type I know they should last a bit longer than that and are cheaper too. Gotta say, overhyped and under delivered. Also it's worth mentioning the Gulikit joysticks can feel rough (had only one smooth one out of four that I tried), it does partially smooth out more over time but it never really goes away after months of use (hundreds of hours of play) and some directions are more rough than others which makes it feel inconsistent. Really wanted it to work, but perhaps their manufacturing/QC just can't get them right consistently yet, hoping any future revisions will be far better since I definitely do want them to work. This whole joycon drift problem is a real shitshow for the consumers.

I would love to see the internals of those Gulikit joysticks. Are they really electromagnetic? if not - then it's not Gulikit or (Gulikit lies ) I'm tired of cleaning Joycons, it's not easy especially with original construction (it's easy to break the metal frame [ ] while opening that black small box).
If those are electromagnetic and still suffer from drifting after some time, then it's a big issue, especially for the price.

Is 6:32 , before or after calibration ? If it's before, then it's normal for it to not be centered. (calibration is part of the setup process)

Man’s ignoring all the comments pointing out how wrong he is about what causes stick drift.

This reminded me that I had to recalibrate after fixing. I was a bit sad it didn't fix it, but after recalibrating, it works like a charm 😄. I had to fix one bit I had forgotten to lock and everything worked perfectly. Just need to change my left joycon battery and it's like new.

Caps are removable to fit in other shells that use Nintendo Switch analog sticks, but won't fit in the installation with the caps (example: AYN Odin).

Did think of that! I’d still like to see replacements sold though. It’d be cool for mixing stick top colors

i agree with the keep controller clean and care thing, but my 3DS doesnt get drift as fast my Switch. So i think it's the joycon's issue

I like the removable stick tops! Mainly because I know that I've seen xbox and joycon controllers with the rubber tops completely worn down. Easy repair!

I like it too but they definitely need to get going on selling replacement tops. Being able to swap colors with ease would be a huge selling point!

I got the new TOTK edition switch about a month and half ago.. and I got a pair of old used joycons to avoid using the limited edition ones.
Well my DOG thought it would be funny to just chew up the left joystick on the left joycon so now I HAVE to replace it so thank goodness this exists.
NOTE: I take good care of my electronics and games, my dog just simply got into where my gaming stuff was because I made a mistake leaving it open. Lesson learned!

My favorite part was when Jake is going over proper controller care and says “and try taking some deep breath’s before you put your controller in your death grip even though that guy was DEFINITELY HACKING!” 😂

Quality vid 👌 you have a "magnengogolic" personality namsayin'
I've sent my joycons for repairs TWICE and they still end up drifting after 5l6 months. To hell with nintendo, i'm installing gulikits.

This might help people with stick drift.
Stop touching the thumb sticks when going back in handheld mode!!! When reinserted and let's say your hand had the stick up accidentally, it'll calibrate itself up. Keep them at zero.
I learned this with the hori split pad
