    Broken Shackles is my favorite Narrative Origin. I just love the idea of a bunch of different species on a slave ship joining forces to rebel and crash landing on an unknown world together. At first, they must cooperate to survive, then they must cooperate with the idea of returning home, and then they have to cooperate under the threat of a return to slavery under MSI. And after many years of doing just this, and if you pick the path of uplifting other primitive empires along the way to create a truly egalitarian and diverse species empire, you essentially become the opposite of what MSI was while also doing the same thing. I also just really love the idea that at the beginning there was no reason after the initial rebellion for the species from different background and cultures to stick together. But after being forced by circumstance to work together for so long and so many generations, the species have just accepted this diverse lifestyle standards and it becomes apart of a greater unification of alien cultures that live together in peace and harmony.

    I did a galaxy with the bird peeps with this origin. I filled my galaxy with a mix of federation builders, autocrats, and a single devouring swarm (everyone was on advanced start). RN-Geezus was my friend. I spawned next to the Blorg and UNE and they were my buds. When we finally encountered MSI, I was able to get my buddies to attack them. We (they - I just sat back and rubbed my hands like a cartoon villian) kicked some ass, however, they sued for peace (Edit: I remember now, it was an ideology change, I felt ripped off by attempts to have more powerful nations do my bidding). I was trying to see if I could start another war, only for a necrophage devouring swarm to kill them off (MSI was between us and them). Fun times!
    I should probably re-load that save and see if our Federation can take on the swarm. I have an egalitarian war orc race that was in our federation and I like to think that we (they) could take them on.

    Calling them "the most evil megacorp" might only be true in so far as they are kinda the only megacorp really present in the lore.
    All things considered, they are pretty chill.
    "Yo. Primatives. We got fancy cool stuff. You can go FTL and start colonizing space! It will cost you though, based on predicted value the technology will provide for your civilization, scaling up with time so you don't have to shoulder it immediately."
    "No thanks gods from another world."
    "Alright, have a good day."
    They aren't even particularly expansionist nor do they devote all too much to "reclaiming lost property." After all, even as a "challenge origin", it's still supposed to be possible to win... and eventually prove the value of giving the uplifting by kicking their teeth in.

    • @brigantiasmemerepository6439
      @brigantiasmemerepository6439 7 днів тому

      Honestly its pretty easy to win. I just did a payback run where I spawned right next to MSI and after allying with a neighbor and beating them in a defensive war, I followed up and wiped them out by the early 2300s. The main challenge is just your early economy and research from less pops; MSI are pushovers once you get a decent fleet.

    • @Mastercheap

      I mean, they still give you an offer that you can’t refuse, with a dette you can’t afford without telling you how much it will cost you or what you could afford with those technologies.

    • @SangoProductions213
      @SangoProductions213 3 дні тому +1

      @ That's actually not a provable statement, because if you chose to not take the deal... it wouldn't be an origin for your civ. And given that in the vast majority of origins, you don't deal with MSI... It's a stretch to say that you refused such a deal, but just like all other minor incidents in the civ's past (be it world wars or what have you), it's just not noted in canon.

    I make alot of custom empires vanilla. I made Dantoonie a broken shakle start along with a few other star wars empires as payback.
    Using MSI is a good way of making a makeshift emperor if your trying to go for that achievement (as long as they don't shift ethics.)

    Best prodeedures when encountering primitives:
    step 1: move your fleet above their world
    step 2: execute an armageddon bombardment
    step 3: continue until all life on the planet is extinguished
    step 4: terraform the planet back into a habitable state
    step 5: colonize it with your own people
    Pro Tip: A collosus with a neutron sweeper weapon is always preferable if you have one

  • @lostbutfreesoul

    I prefer the ones that break from 'Reality' and thus are motivated by something other then profits for a few.
    Example:
    A nation that looks after all people by ensuring they are all Equal Shareholders in the Company.
    Or one that is fixated on the stated goals of the company, it was made for a reason after all.
    Or one that.... you know, it really is hard thinking up a third 'good company' type...!
    My megacorp is different for this reason:
    Ark Genesis and Uplifting is their whole thing... We exist to MAKE friends.
    We are so much nicer about it, we also make our friends into Shareholders!
    Everyone is looked after for we *understand how Great Corporations are meant to be...*

      I designed a Megacorp based on what AnCaps sincerely and unironically believe their ideas would result in - Fanatic Pacifist, as war destroys wealth and thus regardless of short-term profit is a long-term loss, and Egalitarian, as people and businesses should be permitted to rise or fall on their own merits without state interference. Free Traders and Private Prospectors as initial civics to double down on the idea of entrepreneurship as a defining value.
      It was an experience playing as a megacorporation that was sometimes the single loudest voice for peace and understanding lol. Sometimes I'd "invest" alloys or minerals into a threatened trade partner or a smaller empire that could benefit from a kick-start to its development.

      Healthcare is mandatory, because dying customers are bad for business.
      Mine just evolved in a habitat lab, over some world that was destroyed before they came to be. Their view of Capitalism is more akin to idealistic then not, almost like they are incapable of understanding some of the more complex concepts such as greed. Money is not acquired for it's own sake, it is just the means to transfer resources between individuals. The company exists as the most effective way to achieve the goals of the company... which is to make us friends... Literally.
      Still,
      imagine an economical system that considers excess prices to be bad for business!

      @TheRedKing I'm not sure _I_ take my word for it -- I'm definitely a layman regarding economics. That said, MSI's scheme is basically "Help a society develop technologically and economically via high-interest loans, then demand unjust concessions when they invariably can't pay the interest". That matches most serious criticism I've heard of the IMF.

    Sooo, thank you, my next challenge is Payback using LLI
    Lets see if a softer version of their business model can replace them as superior!
    My first test, we found some pre-FTL:
    Time to make some new friends!
    PS:
    Already enjoying this dread, do I use this alloys for a colony or for a fleet....

    • @lostbutfreesoul
      @lostbutfreesoul Місяць тому

      So I had to restart, realizing going the military route was not to the Spirit of the playthrough or the Species in question. This has now been a lot more interesting, trying to find a way to Pay Back the Debt instead of getting Pay Back. While I haven't gotten that far yet, they haven't raised the rates, I realized something... you likely have to pay it all back at once.
      So I am going the crisis path just to get storage for all the credits I will need.

    • @lostbutfreesoul
      @lostbutfreesoul Місяць тому

      So that is interesting:
      They don't seem to up the payment amount, meaning you can easily end up ignoring the whole disability by mid-game.
      It is still fun to remove their business model from existence!

    • @lostbutfreesoul
      @lostbutfreesoul Місяць тому

      Still progressing to my end goal, but while I do so I found out something:
      It is very fun to have MSI as a Diplomatic Enemy....
      Something about getting the whole universe to turn their back on MSI is wonderful to feel. Each time you take out one of MSI's business practices, make it harder for them to exploit others, it feels like a big step made towards the ultimate of goals. I am still wondering how great it will be when I successfully have the council denounce them. If only it didn't take forever to get things through the Senate....
      Think I will call this successful if:
      A) The game does allow me to pay back the whole amount
      B) I get MSI declaimed as a crisis

    • @lostbutfreesoul
      @lostbutfreesoul Місяць тому

      Well that was frustrating.
      Everything was going well, slowly getting resolutions in line and waiting for favours then.
      Federation War, right on my border....
      With my side deciding not to partake and all of their sides packing multiple 150K fleets.
      I held back as long as I could but was crippled... and then the crisis hit.
      At least I got to watch them being smacked around first, if only our universe had my 600K of ships still!
