Woah woah wait. You can access CarPlay / Android Auto by plugging into the center console?! I've had the CX-30 since March and haven't even tried because my sales rep said the only USB plug was the one up front.
Thank you for your demonstration. When I'm listening to Spotify and pushing volume up/down on the steering wheel, the radio is activated instead. Is this a normal behaviour in Mazda 3 2019?
We have a MX-5 and a CX-30 and the CarPlay operates differently. On the MX-5 you can hit the talk button on the steering wheel and ask Siri to play any song (even open up Amazon Music)... on the CX-30 this isn't an option and you have to do everything through the round knob (or is it and my settings are not right?)? It's distracting having to maneuver that button and look at the screen as opposed to just "asking" via the steering wheel...
Hi Jonathan, I noticed when you went into the Music section from carplay it showed FM radio. Does this mean with the new Mazda connect system, I can listen to FM radio and directions from Apple carplay apple maps at the same time? I assume if I want to play music from apple carplay I should set the Mazda connect audio system to Audio Off, to not hear the FM radio? Or is there any audio source that will appear as "Apple Carplay" when I'm playing music from it, would this same audio source appear if I was getting verbal directions from Apple maps? Thank you for any help! Love the videos and all the detail you go into with the Mazda connect system :)
You can listen to FM and get instruction from CarPlay. You’ll have to begin listening to FM, then go into CarPlay and set directions. You won’t turn the audio off or you won’t be able to hear any audio. The previous system would show Apple CarPlay in one of the USB areas. I believe it will still show there when you are streaming music.
They have a commander control knob that works like a cursor to control everything. The newer systems have no touch at all, so the control knob is always used and doesn’t take long to get the hang of.
So I’m clear, you don’t have see the push notifications at the bottom of the screen when a text is received? Is your “Do not disturb” on in the CarPlay settings?
For 2020, the entry level does not have CarPlay. So if your vehicle has cloth seats, it is not equipped with it. Sorry, if that is the case. If you have the select or higher, when tethered a pop up will appear asking if you would like to connect to CarPlay, and you will have to give permission on your phone also.
@@JSS is there a way we can add apple car play to the base 2020 cx-30 model? I’ve seen online some Mazda genuine setup but not sure if it would work for this one. Thank you!
Hey Jonathan, do you know of any product that would let me use my Android (Samsung S10 ) WIRELESS in my new Mazda CX 5 (2021) thank you in advance for your thoughtful comemnts.
I know there’s some available, but they haven’t been as popular as the CarPlay adapters. I think you have to have the correct Android 11 operating system for it to work also.
@@JSS You are correct sir. The Android 11 update will will offer the Android wireless capability for certain in-car audio systems. It's already available for some phones outside the U. S. It will be widespread in the states by February 2021. I just dont have the patience. 😁
Considering buying one for Mom. I guess the scroll knob is okay but, really, CarPlay should be a.) wireless and b.) touch

That would be setting in the specific nav apps that you use.

That’s correct on this model. Wireless CarPlay through WiFi/Bluetooth is available on some. Eventually will be available on all

I’ve heard that the touch screen on the Mazda’s are disabled while in motion. How does that effect using car play/android auto while driving?

Please explain again. When you unplug the phone the interface stays? Or when you plug it in it doesn’t appear?

Only from the USB tether. There are aftermarket options available, but I haven’t tried them personally.

Just got a cx30. I connect my phone with the USB cord but I don't get anything. What am I doing wrong. My sales guy said it had it. I'm doubting it.
