All I can say is I hate this info system in the modern Mazdas so much. There needs to be classes on here to help people like me. I know you are out there and share my frustration. I more modern Mazdas for me!
Just bought a 2024 3, turbo. Never had radar assist cruise control before w/ traffic jam assist. Coming from a '07 Honda, Accord, I never had anything before, technology wise 😆. This video is exactly what I needed. Excellent detail & fully covers system's limitations which was my greatest concern to understand 100%, for obvious reasons. I've only had car for a week, haven't checked out owner's manual yet but after watching your video, I feel I'll have no prob. being comfortable using this feature now. Thank you 👍
Just bought a cx30 manual transmission. From a 20 year old Hyundai. One thing I noticed is how fast it gets without very little effort. This feature is so helpful to keep to the speed limit. I love the blind spot monitoring and reverse parking camera. I wish I got the vision technology. It’s a super fun car to drive. The navigation is very good as well. Doesn’t give you as much information such as Waze but it gets you to A to B quickly. The HUD is amazing. Mine reads traffic signs and speed limits. I have no doubt the engine could go to 100mph without an issue. It barely notices 50mph. It’s thirsty but it’s a lovely ride. Just got some sheepskin covers which just makes it even more comfy. Got to get the windows tinted soon. Thanks for video
Excellent video informative and easy to understand. Bought a 3 Skyactiv a couple of weeks ago after my 14 year old BMW 1 burst into flames when my wife was dropping me off at the local hospital, so not used to so many buttons and features, but now getting used to it and really enjoying it and the only thing I was a bit confused about are the things your video explained so well.
Great review and explanation of this safety function, I just got a CX30 and used it recently, amazing. Mazda cars have so many safety features to help us but remember everyone it's still up to you to drive safe, these devices are there to help us not take over. Also glad to see the UK isn't the only place to have idiots cutting you up and then blaming you for being in there way. Drive safe Dietrich.
Thank you so, so much for this! Getting a Mazda and this is exactly what I needed to know. Also very glad you left in the bit with the driver cutting you off. That happens a lot where i will be driving. (You handled that like pro btw. I would have gone off on that guy)
Glad it was helpful! I have to comport myself in a professional manner when I'm filming videos I plan to put on the internet lol. When the camera is off all bets are too.
Nice informative video... nice voice to kosten to as well. You sound like an announcer. It answered my question about traffic jam assist limitations. Thanks!
Very nicely done video. I watched all of it, beginning to end, by which time I felt very familiar with the system. I just bought a 2020 Mazda 3, but your car has more features than mine. Also, it was a real SHOCK for me when that idiot cut you off. You have extremely good reflexes. I've gotten used to using cruise control on expressways in my previous car, but I know nothing about the additional options you have. My car is a "Select", which is missing many options. I wish my car had a front-facing camera, but I'm stuck with what I've got. Again, VERY nicely done video, clear, and with lots of repetitions, so I really feel I now understand it.
Thanks for the video helped me to use it on the cx30. I always hate when people cut you off without signaling and then when you honk they pretend you're the problem..
Thank you for this very helpful video! I rarely use cruise control but my wife likes using it. So, this is very helpful in explaining to her how to use the cruise in my new CX-30 ! Mine does not have the traffic jam assist but I would never trust it anyway, lol ! Thanks again!
BTW You get a lot of the same functionality on the car with just radar cruise control. It wont do lane centering, but there is lane assist if you are drifting out of the lane for whatever reason. Cruise control in the 2023 will slow and eventually completely stop in traffic, but will not resume until you touch the gas pedal from my experience.
I found that it's best to set your speed five miles an hour faster than the speed limit if you are behind someone with the following distance at it farthest otherwise you'll find yourself going far below the speed limit. Also, I self break when using the cruise control on surface streets because the times I tried letting the car stop itself at red lights it nearly rear ended the car in front of me several times.
In my experience of 1 hour of LA stop and go traffic + occasional breaks, it would sometimes break hard kind of late where it looks like it would read end someone . But it always stopped in time and actually comes to a complete stop pretty smoothly. It's a lot better than I thought but I always have my foot resting on the brake
@eddiecarbajal6707 Very interesting about your case and it almost rear-ending at red lights. I use it a lot here in Bay Area in the heavy traffic and never once did mine attempt to rear end any cars. It has so far always come to a complete stop and goes again very smoothly if they move off within
Eddiecarbajal6707 That is a great tip! To set 5mph faster than the car you following. Just picked up a 24’ Cx50 turbo meridian today. I liked the 225/60/R18” ride much more than the 20’s they eat up the anomalies in a the roads better. W/ the Variable cruise Mazda seriously caters to drivers that want the continuous forward momentum while changing lanes (a must use turn signal built in for safety) rather than breaking the flow they’ve established by getting stuck behind a bread trucks etc. That is only achieved if you’re paying attention for open road spaces that reveal themselves Zoom zoom boomer.
I totally agree. You paid for the technology so take the time to read the manual even if only a section at a time to familiarize yourself with all the many amazing things that can help make your driving experience safer for you and those around you. Many things can be turned off or adjusted to your specific driving needs and hopefully help in an emergency situation if you have a lapse in concentration. A couple of things can be annoying or even irritating but mostly I'm very happy with my CX-5.
Very good video. I drive a manual so a different set up but with yours I was wondering if you hit resume when the lights go green will the car wait until the car in front starts off then follow instead of you waiting for it to move off before hitting resume so you can avoid the delayed start?
If you hit Resume when the car in front of you hasn't moved it will ignore the input, you need to wait until that car in front of you starts moving forward
I’ve heard on some vehicles, you can “unlock” certain functions through the OBD2 settings. I wonder if Mazdas can be made to lane center at higher speeds this way
Do you have a video explaining how to use the paddle shifters on a Mazda 3? This video was great btw really learned alot and was able to try it out on a long drive
Thanks for this. Just checking but why can’t you use the avoidance collision without having cruise control on? Surely it would be a great safety feature that could be used all the time.
Good video, useful tips. where I live it gets quite wet pretty often, i sometimes get an alert on the centre display saying 'Front Radar Malfunction. Drive Safely/Safety and Driver Support Systems Partially Disabled'. I rang the dealership and they said to wipe the front mazda emblem with a cloth (not easy to do when driving!). Or turning off the engine and restarting it will also clear the warning on the driver display. i'm new to this car so i thought it might be helpful to share this.
the hard brake feature is scary, i didnt know about that feature and i was doing uber and someone cut me off the cx-50 slammed on the brakes so hard my passenger fell out the seat lol
Question for the group. When the car in front of me applies the brakes to slow down and my vehicle slows down with it, are the brakes being applied and will the brake light go on or does it simply remove the acceleration?
Yes, the brakes are being applied when necessary by your car and yes, your taillights will be illuminated when the Radar Cruise Control applies the brakes.
I've gotten accustomed to using my thumb to toggle the cruise button on my wife's Sorento and my previous vehicle (both hands on the wheel at all times). Unfortunately, on my new CX-30 GT-turbo that only works sometimes, usually, I have to take my hand off the wheel to flick the switch with my finger, a real flaw in my opinion. Thoughts?
According to the owner's manual for the 2022 Mazda3 I used to film this video, it is possible to change the radar cruise control to be just normal cruise control using the "Personalization Feature," but unfortunately they do not expound on that concept anywhere in the owner's manual that I could find. Per the owner's manual: "If the Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) or Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go function (MRCC with Stop & Go function) is set to inoperable using the personalization feature, the system switches to the cruise control function. In this case, the MRCC functions as the cruise switch. In addition, this personalization feature setting is initialized by switching the ignition OFF, and it turns back on when the ignition is switched ON the next time."
@CarDietrich Thanks yes I seen a video on Turning feature off. But didn't know about it resets itself after the ignition is turned off. Thanks for the reply
Once you press resume, how do you know the cruise control is back on? Also thank you! I first looked at Mazda’s official video and that only confused me more. I’ve had this car for two years and still haven’t figured out how to use the cruise control. My previous car was a Holden Astra and all you had to do was to go to speed that you want to keep, press the button and voila.
Great video! Is it possible to turn off the HOLD when the MRCC brings the car to a stop? I find it annoying having to press the pedal or the RES button every time
In the menu you can set it so you just have to think GO and the car will read your mind and start moving. It’s great for people that can’t be bothered tapping their foot on the accelerator pedal.
@@aussie8114 we can send it a telepathic command so the car uses its magical eyes (called MRCC) and sees when the car in front starts to move in order to react accordingly, in exactly the same fashion as when the car is in full motion and needs to break because the car in front decreased its speed
Super useful, thank you! One more question - my Mazda also reads the road signs and sometimes it also shows additional information below a sign - for example: 'DIST!' or just an exclamation mark on a white banner. I haven't found any explanation in the user manual. Could you share what those additional banners mean? Car is 2023 CX-5. Thanks!
In the last 2 minutes I see flashing lights on the bumper in front of you. Is that the Lane keep assist making those lights flash? I don’t have that button and haven’t witnessed it.
I'm pretty sure that's just the reflection of the LED headlights on the bumper of that car that was in front of me. The LED lights often appear to be blinking on camera
If the car brings itself to a complete stop and stays stopped for more than a couple of seconds, then yes you will have to press the button or tap the gas pedal
I turned off the radar cruise control on my 2024 Mazda 3. I find that when driving on the freeway with trucks or buses in adjacent lanes, the system would suddenly stomp on the brakes when we head into a curve.
I can never get a straight answer to this question: Does using the cruise control in this fashion save gas? To be honest I'm a little leery about trusting the cruise control this much unless I'm seeing a cost saving benefit.
It's a hard question to answer, and there are a lot of variables involved. On average, you might get a little better MPG with the Radar Cruise Control engaged, because the car's computers are going to be programmed with fuel economy in mind. It's not going to go full throttle when it accelerates, and it's going to try to maintain speed with the least throttle applied. But with that being said, if you know how to drive a car to get the best possible fuel economy, and you are focused on that while driving the car, you probably could beat the radar cruise. For example, the radar cruise wouldn't accelerate down a hill to be able to coast up the next hill on a mountain road. So there isn't really one "yes or no" answer to your question, the best advice I could give is experiment with it and see if you get better MPG with or without it where and how you drive.
Progressive insurance has a Snapshot status monitor ios app. It reports hard breaking incidents when MRCC Stop and Go is controlling the car. Is there a way to change when stop and go decides to apply the breaks at a greater distance cause it does indeed hard break.
I have driven several Mazdas with the Radar cruise control and I have not experienced the same dramatic stops you have. I am going to be driving a CX-50 next week so I’ll keep my eyes out for it
According to the owner's manual for the 2022 Mazda3 I used to film this video, it is possible to change the radar cruise control to be just normal cruise control using the "Personalization Feature," but unfortunately they do not expound on that concept anywhere in the owner's manual that I could find. Per the owner's manual: "If the Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) or Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go function (MRCC with Stop & Go function) is set to inoperable using the personalization feature, the system switches to the cruise control function. My 2023 Mazda cx 50 will not lock onto a motorcycle. For any reason. I tried to lock onto one to see if it would, but it didnt show in front of me, behind me, or beside me bc it was too small and I tried it on a large Harley.
I make sure to reduce the set speed to no more than 10mph higher than the speed of traffic. Otherwise the car is too eager to accelerate at the slightest opening which is too aggressive. I also don’t fully trust the car to stop because 7/10 times it brakes as expected but 3/10 times it doesn’t feel like it’s going to make the stop. Wish the camera worked with radar to detect brake lights so the car would anticipate stops more readily. Otherwise RCC is a dream on long road trips with light to moderate traffic
This is the problem. If you can’t fully rely on it then what’s the point. Best to treat the cruise control like the old fashion standard cruise control and brake yourself. Also only use it on big highways, freeways, tollways. Not on normal roads like in this video.
I assume that's an automatic cuz otherwise you have to manually change gears and then activate the cruise control. I only ever used it on highway cuz there you are going at high speeds and its easier to just let the car keep the chosen speed. From time to time an orange wheel pic would show up and I was wondering/guessing if its the car steering to keep me between the lines centered. The line alert is kinda annoying but since the way I drive mazda is different from my previous vehicle I am keeping it on but I am not sure why it doesnt activate sometimes. Maybe if I slowly cross over the line the system alerts me but if I go over it quickly the system thinks I want to do it and it doesnt come on.
If I want to cancel cruise control on highway, can I just press the gas pedal? How hard should I do it? Will the vehicle slow down if I press the gas too gentle?
I like to drive my CX-5 as a driving enthusiast so I'd rather use my spidey senses in traffic. The cruise control is great out on the highway when cars are flowing and traffic is light.
I'm always confused by this, I know you said that if nobody is on the road, it acts like a regular cruise control... Can you have it act like a regular cruise control even if there are many cars in front of you?
According to the owner's manual for the 2022 Mazda3 I used to film this video, it is possible to change the radar cruise control to be just normal cruise control using the "Personalization Feature," but unfortunately they do not expound on that concept anywhere in the owner's manual that I could find. I think in any car, adaptive cruise control will NOT deactivate while changing lane. I have experienced this in my wife's Mazda 3 2022 and my Acura MDX 2020.
@@CarDietrich I appreciate your quick reply ! My CX30 has additional "LIM" button . Tried to read the driver's manual or find some explanation online, have not find some full, all around explanation.
It looks like that's for the speed limiter, if you push the button and use the +/- buttons to set a speed for it, it will beep at you if you go faster than that. Here is the link to Mazda's online owner's manual for that feature: owners-manual.mazda.com/gen/en/cx-30/cx-30_8hq1ee19i/contents/05281500.html
@@CarDietrich Tried the MRCC today while being in traffic jam - did not like the aggressive way the car was breaking .Turned the MRCC off and the ride got back to being smooth . 3 times various drivers cut my lane :(
i've noticed that a 2024 cx50's MRCC's breaking triggers Progressive's driving status app with lots of "hard breaking" instances in slower stopNgo traffic . Does anyone else notice this?
Hello! I have a curiousity regarding adaptive pilot. Is not accelerating progressive. Is trying to reach the speed that I set asap. Does anyone encounter this?
Is the steering wheel supposed to vibrate or shake slightly when it stops when the cruise is on? I use cx-50 and I get this shaking but not sure if it’s normal
I looked over the owner's manual for the CX-50 and it doesn't seem to mention anything about the steering wheel shaking when the car comes to a stop. You may want to consult your dealer to see if there is an issue with your car.
No wonder he cut you off. You are in the wrong lane! There are cars passing you on the right. This means you are in the passing lane but not passing anyone. Move to the right lane
IMO traffic jam assist is silly. Functions the opposite of most lane centering assist systems that actually turn off below 45mph and are meant to reduce fatigue on the highway.
Following the car in front closely using cruise control system means I will be driving with the same way whatever he or she is doing. I will therefore lose my full control over oil consumption and will pay for the same how much the other will do😢
Great comprehensive video about the Mazda cruise system. I'd still be wary to let the car brake for me behind another car. I've heard Teslas randomly gunning it when they're suppose to stop and if they have a faulty system having so much R&D I'd suspect other manufacturers don't also have it down pack. Great video though. Looking for my next car as someone had totaled my beloved 2014 Mazda 3 GT tech.
Weird you don't have the bottom left button assigned to anything. Here it's labeled LIM used to limit the speed of the vehicle, handy if in speed restricted zones prevent you from well speeding :) it can be set to manual ot auto based on traffic signs

Thanks!
Thank you so much for watching, but unfortunately I don't know what those messages mean either!
For the traffic jam assist do you need to move the wheel or just touch it?
Keep your hands on it and make very small movements, it will know that you're there
@@CarDietrich Sounds like its movement on the wheel then.
I wish I could get the Mazda 3 chime in my cx5
mine was telling me it was disabled this morning I think there was too much dew on the camera and radar?
In the last 2 minutes I see flashing lights on the bumper in front of you. Is that the Lane keep assist making those lights flash? I don’t have that button and haven’t witnessed it.
I'm pretty sure that's just the reflection of the LED headlights on the bumper of that car that was in front of me. The LED lights often appear to be blinking on camera
Do you need to press the button or accelerator in traffic jam or can it creep forward automatically?
If the car brings itself to a complete stop and stays stopped for more than a couple of seconds, then yes you will have to press the button or tap the gas pedal
CX-60/70 has a new version of the TJA ... and that can be used with highway speeds.
Please tell me what fungtion in dasboard has number 35
question: How can you justify just casually driving past del taco and not stopping to get some tacos? please explain.
I maintain a strict “No Chicken Soft Tacos!” Policy while filming
I found out on my 23 mazda cx30 cruise control won't work if not using seat belts
I am going to be driving a CX-50 next week so I’ll keep my eyes out for it
For the stop and go, after how many seconds stopped does it turn off and have to hit resume button/tap on gas pedal to go again?
A couple of seconds
Do you know how to disable the adaptive CC and change it to normal CC ?
According to the owner's manual for the 2022 Mazda3 I used to film this video, it is possible to change the radar cruise control to be just normal cruise control using the "Personalization Feature," but unfortunately they do not expound on that concept anywhere in the owner's manual that I could find.
Per the owner's manual:
"If the Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) or Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go function (MRCC with Stop & Go function) is set to inoperable using the personalization feature, the system switches to the cruise control function. In this case, the MRCC functions as the cruise switch. In addition, this personalization feature setting is initialized by switching the ignition OFF, and it turns back on when the ignition is switched ON the next time."
If you want to cancel the cruise control, hit the brake pedal, not the gas pedal. You don't need to hit the brakes hard to cancel the cruise.
hit brakes and cruise control stops/ Applicable in Mazda 3 2022 as well as Acura MDX and I believe any other car too.
great video! 5*
Thank you!
I like to drive my CX-5 as a driving enthusiast so I'd rather use my spidey senses in traffic. The cruise control is great out on the highway when cars are flowing and traffic is light.
In my country we dont hv the traffic jam assistance 😢
I'm always confused by this, I know you said that if nobody is on the road, it acts like a regular cruise control... Can you have it act like a regular cruise control even if there are many cars in front of you?

Need formula to calculate activation code LIMITED Stop and go Mazda cx8 model 2022. Can you share?
I don’t have it I’m sorry
I'm like this guy 0 road rage but my passenger aka the wife, that's a different story 😮😅
does adaptive Cruise Control deactivated when you change lane?
No it will stay active if you change lanes.
I think in any car, adaptive cruise control will NOT deactivate while changing lane. I have experienced this in my wife's Mazda 3 2022 and my Acura MDX 2020.
I can confirm they work. Can't get myself to use them though. It would be so fucking boring
Awesome video :)
Could you please make a similar one for Mazda CX-30 ?
Thank you so much !!!
I believe the CX-30 has the same radar cruise control system the 3 does, so these instructions should work for your CX-30. Thank you for watching!

I appreciate your quick reply !
My CX30 has additional "LIM" button .
Tried to read the driver's manual or find some explanation online, have not find some full, all around explanation.
It looks like that's for the speed limiter, if you push the button and use the +/- buttons to set a speed for it, it will beep at you if you go faster than that. Here is the link to Mazda's online owner's manual for that feature:

Tried the MRCC today while being in traffic jam - did not like the aggressive way the car was breaking .Turned the MRCC off and the ride got back to being smooth .
3 times various drivers cut my lane :(
How is it legal or safe to hold the camera when driving?
5:59 the road rage
i've noticed that a 2024 cx50's MRCC's breaking triggers Progressive's driving status app with lots of "hard breaking" instances in slower stopNgo traffic . Does anyone else notice this?
I haven’t driven a 2024 CX50 so I haven’t noticed
So did it brake for you and come to a complete stop for you, too ?
This one did, yes. That's the "Stop And Go" feature
but you're never going to lock on to a lambo going over 200 mph ... haha .. just kidding
I thought that it was Michael Knight talking 😂
CYA (Just In Case)🤔 if you say so.
6:02 and then he get angry at you.
People like this should not be allowed to have licenses
I had a 2019 and it stops and goes without touching a pedal as long as there's a vehicle in front of you.
Hello! I have a curiousity regarding adaptive pilot. Is not accelerating progressive. Is trying to reach the speed that I set asap. Does anyone encounter this?
I did not experience this issue when driving this car
Hey this is in Orange! People do that all the time there at that exit 🤦🏻♂️
Is the lane departure warning set up to vibrate the steering wheel? Does the cx50 have that
6:03
How reliable is it at braking with the car in front
Very reliable, but it's not self driving you have to pay attention and be ready to intervene if needed
No wonder he cut you off. You are in the wrong lane! There are cars passing you on the right.
This means you are in the passing lane but not passing anyone. Move to the right lane
I was going to mention that myself.
IMO traffic jam assist is silly. Functions the opposite of most lane centering assist systems that actually turn off below 45mph and are meant to reduce fatigue on the highway.
Following the car in front closely using cruise control system means I will be driving with the same way whatever he or she is doing. I will therefore lose my full control over oil consumption and will pay for the same how much the other will do😢
I was really hoping that traffic jam assist was some kind of missile launcher
That would have been a much more fun video to make!
