Magnus is as good at the sly take-down as he is at chess. With Hikaru it was "He's great. He's got so many silver medals". With Hans it's "He is so much stronger than he was before."
I wonder if Magnus saying how much Hans has improved was an underhanded way of saying he cheated because he’s saying this is Hans a lot better than he was and he crushed him whereas Hans crushed Magnus twice at the Sinquefield cup and the one where he said chess speaks for itself two years ago
I have to disagree with Robert. Magnus is not 'in form'. He's nowhere as commited to chess like he was 10 years ago. Yet he still destroys every chess player on the planet with ease.
Gotta love the sneaky "he's miles better than 2 years ago", which basically translates to: "he is miles better than when he won against me! (and i just destroyed him)" Gooo Magnus!

Magnus simply has a great understanding of where all chess players lie in their skill level including his own and he doesn’t let internet hype or people’s opinions sway him from the truth of who is the best at chess and it simply happens to be him that’s the greatest.. and he pity’s other players who simply don’t understand the hierarchy the way he does. Magnus has said for a long time that alireza is a future chess prodigy and here is alireza challenging Magnus on one of the biggest stages in chess and Hans happens to fail just as Magnus predicted. But Magnus smirked, eyes divine, "Foolish mortal, your skills are benign." Hans pushed a pawn, shaky, unsure, Magnus struck back-his victory pure. "Is this your best?" the god did cry, As Hans’ strategy waved goodbye. The 5+1? Hans was crushed like clay, The 3+1? A fleeting delay. In bullet, oh boy, the tale turns tragic, Hans flailed about, while Magnus worked magic. "You came to win?!" Magnus roared with glee, "Against a god? How blind must you be?" I know right away after the first 3 games that it's in the bag for Magnus. It's not even close. Honestly I was hoping to see a big surprise from Hans but his class just isn't there. Even Magnus was bored in this match playing meme openings in the later half.
It seems to me that Niemann's personality is so underdeveloped, problematic, and dysfunctional that it raises serious questions about his upbringing-perhaps his parents should be investigated.
Weird way of saying magnus, imagine losing to a kid with the black pieces and then getting salty and accuse of him of cheating because you are a sore loser and a narcissist
He has given away tens of thousands to charity and overall given way more attention to Chess while bouldering an undeserved amount of hate. How much money did you give away to charity? Let's investigate your parents.
Wow. Magnus really said "it wasn't a matchup I wanted" and he actually meant it, he wasn't just talking trash. From everything Magnus said before the match, I got the feeling Magnus KNEW his opponent wasn't ready for him and he was right. Not only did Magnus crush him, but he also got bored and stopped caring about the match towards the end and still won.
The scores show Magnus lost the last 5 games straight. Crazy. I know top comment says he stopped caring but I think we all know if you’ve got a rivalry against someone you hit them as hard as you can and wouldn’t ‘give up’ and finish on 5 loses and giving your opponent a perceived mini victory.
Please tell me you are not serious about those were meaningless wins. It was after 1am. He played hard every game with Alireza out of respect but also it way earlier in the day.
Who said or thought that there were a rivalry? Magnus underestimated Hans and lost a game once but that was it, Hans literally isn't even in the same league as Magnus.
There never was a rivalry, but respect for Magnus taking the high road in the post game commentary. He would have been well justified to completely dump on Hans, but instead praised him some.
not even talking about their respective qualities as chess players, but Nieman is just a jerk craving for attention by being an A. I don't like that kind of person. Unfortunately it's exactly the kind of personalities that social media encourages...
Niemann 'Not if, but when I win.' Hans Moke Niemann loses - really loses. Magnus 'He's better than he was two years ago, definitely. But he still blunders a lot.'
I have literally no idea who Hans Niemann is and know next to nothing about chess but its really entertaining to see someone get so cocky and lose. This is the second video like this about him I have seen and its really funny
the fact that Hans really thought after years of being “silent” in chess, come back, and go for the goat is just so funny, Magnus really stopped caring after a few games lmfao
4:14 is absolutely brutal. He didn't have to do that. He was proving a point. He did it a few times in the early games as well, played longer or more complicated forcing lines just to stamp his authority on the game.
Well he has to get used to it because Hans nieman is top 16 in the world right now at his all time peak and he is only 21 years old so he will keep improving and will maybe break into the top 10 and as he gets higher rating he will face magnus more
It's like magnus said. He played quite well but blundered alot. It would have been closer if not for those one move blunder misstakes, which could have easily been avoided. He is overconfident. Edit: For all braindead "one brain cell" people out there, my point is that the only reason he's not doing better is because he underastimates all the opponents and plays nonchalantly once he gets a winning position. He is otherwise an amazing chess player with some big potential. I think he will go far, and yes he is toxic but this is not a matter of character.
Hopefully he will grow out of it, he's still very young at 21. When he's like 26 with his pre frontal Cortex fully grown and the 5 more years of experience he will be a huge problem. He could be world champion then. It's just not yet his time. Looking forward to him playing for 3rd, that should be an absolutely amazing match. Hopefully this loss humbled him
It's hard for it to be a rivalry when it's so one sided. Rivalries are traditionally amongst 2 players or teams that are mostly even keeled. This is not the case here.

that being said anyone rated higher than 1800 or with more than 2 brain cells who followed the situation knows that Hans didnt win because of his superior play 2 years ago, but rather because Carlsen played uncharacteristically bad.
So really this conclusion wouldnt be made by anyone with any clue about pro chess or really just chess itself.

Magnus and Levy let everyone know how to deal with people like Hans, keep quiet and let them do all the work, they destroy themselves.
Magnus is as good at the sly take-down as he is at chess. With Hikaru it was "He's great. He's got so many silver medals". With Hans it's "He is so much stronger than he was before."
Imagine losing to Levy then to think Magnus stands no chance.
Magnus after 20 beers > Nieman on that day
0:19 now that we know the results that's hilarious. The way Hans talks makes you doubt every thing (confidence and trash talking 4000 elo)
Absolutely on the money. Magnus is far, far too intelligent and diplomatic for this to be anything but clear when reading between the lines.

I have to disagree with Robert. Magnus is not 'in form'. He's nowhere as commited to chess like he was 10 years ago. Yet he still destroys every chess player on the planet with ease.

In Kalevala there is this part where young Joukahainen challenges the GOAT Wäinämöinen to a duel. When Wäinämöinen declines the youngster insults him. Wäinämöinen proceeds then to sing and using his magic to make the swamp swallow Joukahainen.
Have to respect Finnish sagas.
Hans is a great player just not at Magnus level
Hans, is not aware of how dumb he his.
Hans thinks he’s the protagonist in his incel brain 😂
He thinks he is inspiring people. I am still laughing about that.
Saying this about a top 20 GM is just pure ignorance.....
Bro is literally 16th in the world though
I think Alireza and hans are going to be the future mangus and hikaru , considering they are both 21 and still have lots to go
Magnus giving such a great compliment about Hans' game after the match is genius. Nobody will hate on him for saying, in fact I think people will like him for saying that all while it boosts his own position as 🐐

The Epic of Magnus and Hans the Hopeless
Behold! The realm where pieces clash,
Where mighty Magnus, in glory does dash.
With pawns like thunder, knights like flame,
He laughed as poor Hans tried to play the game.
"I am Hans, and I'll take your throne!"
He puffed his chest, let out a groan.
But Magnus smirked, eyes divine,
"Foolish mortal, your skills are benign."
Hans pushed a pawn, shaky, unsure,
Magnus struck back-his victory pure.
"Is this your best?" the god did cry,
As Hans’ strategy waved goodbye.
The 5+1? Hans was crushed like clay,
The 3+1? A fleeting delay.
In bullet, oh boy, the tale turns tragic,
Hans flailed about, while Magnus worked magic.
"You came to win?!" Magnus roared with glee,
"Against a god? How blind must you be?"
Hans, now humbled, sank into despair,
For Magnus’ power was beyond compare.
And so it’s told, through all the lands,
Magnus reigns, while Hans... just stands.
In the world of chess, there’s but one divine,
And Hans? Well, he's just killing time.
Cringe
4:11 that's just bullying 🤣 "Ohh Naaaastyyyyy"
Destroyed? Hans did better than most other top GMs.
Hans lost like 6 or 7 "drawn" end games vs. Magnus. It was sad to watch.
Yes, this match confirmed that Hans has the upside to beat Magnus if he plays well start to finish, he just does not have the consistency or composure to beat him in a long match yet.
Oh Hi I was finding you,I think you were the guy to call that streamer hikaru guy the Goat of speed chess I think,I hope now you do realise Magnus is the God of chess and speed chess and best to ever play and no one is even close yo him any format, not even in bullet anyone is close to him,so plss from now on think and then speak

Weird way of saying magnus, imagine losing to a kid with the black pieces and then getting salty and accuse of him of cheating because you are a sore loser and a narcissist
Unfortunately being a dysfunctional family is no crime. Plenty of them in this world unfortunately

Very true, especially given how he stomped Ali today in the last games. People just don't want to give Hans the credit

Well he has to get used to it because Hans nieman is top 16 in the world right now at his all time peak and he is only 21 years old so he will keep improving and will maybe break into the top 10 and as he gets higher rating he will face magnus more

I like that Magnus was generous enough to give Hans some respect by saying how much he has improved of the past two years.

It's hard for it to be a rivalry when it's so one sided. Rivalries are traditionally amongst 2 players or teams that are mostly even keeled. This is not the case here.
