Honestly the problem half the time is that they're just balanced in such a way that they're either impossible or not worth doing. The exile path should just get a special operation that guarantees the Warsaw Uprising after a bit of time, a bit like the French communist missions that guarantee a Welsh and Scottish uprising. Most of these "gimmick" paths could be saved with some reimagining of how they work, but Paradox won't ever go back and change them.
And some choices are pointless or actually broken. Nobody doing a monarchist Portugal run wastes PP boosting monarchist sentiment in Brazil because it does nothing visible, and triggering the BR civil war is simply much more straightforward.

To be fair, the Warsaw wasn't even actually supposed to participate in the whole operation, which mostly targeted the cities in the East as Red Army re-entered the old Polish borders on their march to Berlin. AK/Home Army actually managed to successfully retake a couple of cities with help of Soviets (or Soviets retook them with help of AK, whichever way you want to see it), but once all was done they were packed into trains and carted away to camps by NKVD. Warsaw Uprising was a last, desperate step to re-establish Polish government rather than succumb to puppet one brought in with the Soviets.
Warsaw Uprising is OP as hell once you fire it, unless it was just bugged or they've changed it since last time I did it (years ago). It gave me back all my land (including that which got annexed by the Soviets), parts of Italy for some reason and hundreds of decent veteran units everywhere.

The ai does cheat quite a lot when it comes to garrisons. For the Warsaw uprising achievement you pretty much have to give it to Tannu Tuva, who despite being tannu Tuva somehow still puts up a ridiculous fight
I think PDX broke a ton of resistance related foci and events by making the AI capable of switching occupation laws. I know at least as Ethiopia that trying to do their whole Africa rebellions is a nightmare since the AI just switches to military governor as soon as you generate some resistance.

The reason you can't get resistance high enough is because paradox changed the default garrison law, it used to be civilian oversight now it's military governor I think.
You can actually get a bonus spirit to your leader after capitulation if you go with a soldier king monarchy. Quite helpful and better than the historical route.
technically you could pull back to a point where you can do the focus then push back out which would be kinda cool, because the stuff in that tree is crazy strong.
Poland having cores on the east and Soviet Union not is really, really dumb, and i say it as a Pole. There was like 10% Polish people there, with exception of Vilnus and Lviv, and the locals didnt exactly love being part of Poland.
As "paths that need you to cap" Free France has been bugged for years, often times Degaulle is not put in power and it cancels most of the focus tree, also you get a capital in New Caledonia wich ends up fucking up supplies, not to mention the lack of manpower and about everything else
The hapsburg Poland path actually has a nice buff if you're in exile, not that you would usually need it you have the Czech industry Germany should be so weak you roll over them. Also if you pull off the Warsaw uprising I think you can get back some of your territory the Soviets took if you time it right
i have tried it twice and... well i think you need to time it perfectly, you get decent ammout of units and whole country back, however they aren't rly good units so i just capitulated again both times
Timing is key and generally when to do it is around when the soviets near Poland after the allies retook France. Biggest factor which plays is how the Soviets do as if they do to good your games over and if they do really bad you will capitulate or be stuck in a war for a long long time.
"prepare for the inevitable" is basically when paradox announces HoI5 in 4 years and ISP has to do all of this all over agin for another 10 years
