I’ll never forget the time Joe let me play his jazz bass when I purchased an amp from him back in high school. Couldn’t make the bass sound half as good as he did. Back in those days, he was playing with the band, Something Different In the Homemade Jam, which was the best dose of jam band you could get in Northern Michigan. I’m pretty certain Joe was wearing the same glasses back the too 😎
But it was 10 years ago. Didn't you read at the beginning? The interview was on september 2011. He don't look like 10y younger, he was in fact 10y younger when appears in the video without glasses.
I wonder why Fender didn't gave him a signature bass. He's been using their brand from the very start. Musicman is superb but his Joe Dart Bass doesn't really look like a Joe Dart Bass. Maybe I'm just more comfortable seeing him with that white j bass with tort pickguard.
@@yaboi-km2qn yeah but aren’t signatures supposed to reflect on the real life counterpart? like cory’s signature looks exactly like his old highway one strat, but joe never used a stingray before (maybe once in a video). why he made a signature with them even though it looks nothing like the bass he is famous for using is something i don’t get.

It goes to show you that in the end, instruments are really just tools. His bass is nothing really that special - just a stock MIM jazz bass. It's the hands of the player that brings it to life.
Of course a Jazz bass is versatile. It's in its nature (two pickups). The Stingray Joe Dart bass though is a total one trick pony. I think he sounded better with the Jazz. Main thing though is the sound is in your hands (as said Pastorius).
I made the compilation video when the EB was first announced - Knowing some people would miss the Fender JBass. I was combing through some old hard drives and found the interview with him talking about his bass. As an editor and video producer I felt it was a cool moment of foreshadowing when he said “Just trying to get as many miles on it as I can, you know, wear it out” ... The shoutout at the end to the Joe Dart custom is more of a cheers to Joe wishing him success and many more “miles” to come in his new adventure with his bass that has his name on the headstock, which was very exciting at that moment (it still is pretty wild to think about). Just an artistic choice, but I understand why some may not dig it. He still plays the Jazz bass and has used it at shows even after the release of the EB. Thanks for the comment!
Nice to hear someone include tracks from Sleepify in a Vulf based video. Easily the most slept on record they put out.
