Talked to Joey Dosik after his show with Theo in Portland. Joe Dart was brought up. He said "Joe Dart didn't need to go to college, he just stayed home and played the fuck out of the bass".
the beautiful thing about Vulf is that they're just session musicians who evolved together by jamming in the studio, as opposed to a group of egotistical wanna-be-rockstars who are fighting over control of their fame and fortune and image. the reason so many people are responding to them goes well beyond their musical ability alone; people recognize their authenticity because much of the music industry today is so obviously fake and manufactured. we're so used to watching the solo diva or the self-righteous rap god... we apparently forget the magic of live collaboration and real artists working together until we see it happening.
That can't be the whole story though. 'Cause there are a ton of excellent session musicians out there and most of them will never sell out Madison Square Garden. Jack Stratton might not be your stereotypical egotistical frontman but he surely has the same sort of soaring talent and magnetic persona that makes a band stick together for 10 years and reach for greatness.
Magnificent bass player and seems a really good guy. I'm approaching 70, have been playing for 50+ years and Joe inspires me. It's so exciting to see what the great younger players are doing these days.
what is so cool, is that they are understated. They are all great musicians who if anything, undersolo. They arent out there to show off their individual prowess, they just groove together and make it super funky. But no matter what, you cannot help always notice Joe Dart, becasue he is so badass!
I’ve played bass for 37 years, and Man, I could use a set of those shades if they could help me to play like Joe. I don’t know if my neck and shoulders could handle it though. Might tear a muscle. 😁
thanks for that interview! it's funny how you get the feel of the guy with how he's like in the vulf videos and lives, he's probably the most expressive of them with regards to body language. and then you hear him and it feels like somehow you already know what his personnality is like. anyways gotta love him, especially if you are a bass player, he's a bassist's bassist
What’s funny is the fact you’re the one to interview Joe while being so absolutely disconnected/ignorant and kind of disrespectful all at the same time?. Fun to hear a lot of it, but how were you the one talking to him?!
I'm 61 and love this cat. At 15, I was into Jaco and followed him like a religion. But yeah, Joe has it going on. Great for him. Just stay off the helicopter bro. 28:42 Sqirrel drop in!
I'm happy Joe is being interviewed by such a great interviewer. She's asking great questions. They are kind of obvious questions but exactly the things I would like to know.
Just because Sean Evans is probably the most consistently, and habitually, well-researched interviewers I've seen. His questions seem to always be surprisingly interesting and thoughtful, or at least the right thing to ask.
What a ridiculous process. It's amazing that they can get these recordings live, in a couple of takes, without all getting together to even practice beforehand.

I started playing guitar around 8, but it wasn't until I heard Joe play, that I knew I was really a bass player. I guess I was 30 at the time or so. Thank you Joe!
When I attended Cornell in Computer Science for a masters, when I came back for the second year, a bunch of students had disappeared to pursue their opportunities. I think this is pretty common at top notch institutions. My daughter went to Berklee and students peeled off all the time. When the door opens, you've got to walk through.
DUDE I FORGOT ALL ABOUT MY DEAR DISCO! Loved their shit like 10 years ago but totally forgot they existed, glad this interview brought me back to their music.
He's actually like this all the time. I was truly hoping he would stay the same as he got more famous, and luckily, he has. So good to hear and see the boy again. I haven't seen him in the flesh in quite some time. Hope he comes back home to Harbor Springs soon. We can smack the tennis ball around perhaps. Peace.

im very disapointed that he doesnt just plays bass n shakes like a worm to comunicate

Pedro Nolli, I too was taken back, shocked!
His neck bobbing is actually a form of Morse code developed especially by him, he only speaks when spoken to, otherwise he only uses Morse code.
and, as well, I'm surprised he doesn't speak a language from the outer space !
I'll ask again: When are we getting Joe Dart bobbleheads?

Anyone else admiring the majestic ecosystem Joe's got there?
He's symbiotically fused to those plants to keep him alive in the absence of his Fender-based life support system.
The plants seem to gravitate towards Joe's aura.
