I love these mini documentaries, Rooney is one of the best English players of all time, even if you don’t like him you can admit he was a brilliant player
Is scary how good he may have been if he had Messi or Ronaldo mentality. I honestly think if he trained as hard and looked after himself well he could have given them a run for their money at least.
SAF always played Rooney out of his position which in turn made him a better team player and was as much a defender as he was an outstanding attacker but one must take into consideration that Ronaldo was also there and dare I say it Ronaldo had the flair that Rooney lacked but he more than made up for it with his holdup play and I think that the only other young player that came close to Rooney was the famous goals that Micheal Owen scored! I think that my generation was the lucky ones to watch the original Ronaldo r9 to the one that they call the Freak who of course is playing for the wrong team but hey we can’t always get what we want! 😢

557 games, 253 Goals, 154 assists, 5 Premier League titles, 3 League Cups, 1 Champions League, 1 Europa League, 1 FA Cup & 1 Club World Cup all for arguably the biggest football club in the world. Wayne Rooney was a monster of a footballer. Forget all the off field newspaper headlines, Rooney was a proper serious talent. Yes he might not have had the longevity of Cristiano or Messi but for me he’s the greatest English player of my lifetime. Some would also argue that Rooney is a bigger United legend than Cristiano can ever be. And I agree with that. wayne rooney is my favorite player, period. even then, I wouldn't rate him the 3rd best player of his generation. I'd place him top 10 players of the 2000s, probably 8th or 9th
My favourite player of all time. Grew up watching this guy (and Ronaldo) tear up the Premier League. I was 9-10 and Rooney was only 20-21 and I was infatuated with him and his total 90 boots that every boy had to own in the mid 2000s
I think you summed up Rooney as a player when you said that his rage made him great. He took his upbringing and perhaps even the pain he was currently experiencing and turned it into moments of incredible brilliance. We shall never see his like again.
I will note about Cristiano's wink that it was in response to a coaching instruction. Him, Rooney and Ferdinand talked after the game about what happened and it was all patched up
Shows you how impressive Cristiano's career is, as he really was among the best in the world until he was 36. Even a player of Rooney's class can be brought down physically, Cristiano's longevity was amazing. Rooney definitely underrated as to how good he was.
The fact that ronaldo recently made fun of wayne rooney's appearance even though he knew how hurt rooney was from jonathan ross's comments really shows the type of person he is
Ronaldo greatly benefited from other amazing players such as rooney and benzema sacrificing their game for his, rooney made him look bang average for a few years
Rooney is one of the all time greats. We were so lucky at DC United when Rooney came stateside for a short while as a player and showed us how it's done. Things didn't turn out as planned when he returned as coach, but DC United and MLS were lucky to have him. One of the best!
My FAVORITE player. WHAT a video. For the first time ever I heard him summed up EXACTLY why i liked him all these years and i didnt even know how to explain it myself. I tried to be him every single time i played. I was always trying to be Rooney in my mind. It was the Never Give Up mentality and the rage pent up inside that had to come out. Aggression and Passion. Really great video, as an American i always liked Wayne bc he reminded me of the dudes I'd meet at the local bar. This video just reinforced that idea for me, and reminded me how evil the english media really is, it's just as bad as the american media. Crazy!
A special player that made me fall in love with football. Truly a legend and last of his kind, the street footballer turned icon. #thankyouWazza The streets will never forget.
watching Rooney play in his youth was like witnessing a volcano eruption. you could see the earth grumble and shake under hist feet while he was running full speed. Ares himself descending into battle. I know it sounds a bit much, but I was about 16 and that's what was on the screen for my eyes. one of greatest to wear the boots in my opinion and dthat's especially because of the shortcomings you mentioned. Great video :)
Great video bro! Only thing stopping Rooney from reaching the heights Messi and Ronaldo have was the way he applied himself off the pitch… if he had the same focus and dedication as they did he would have won a Balon D’or one time in his career I’m sure. Greatest English player of all time.
an inspiring legend of the game. will forever be one of the most underrated players ever. pulled through in important matches, did wonders for united. he's one of those players who stats alone can't describe properly. the sheer presence he had coupled with his unwavering determination of winning, truly a hero and an inspiration.
I'm learning so much from these videos your making. As an American we didn't have all the stories and pictures you've shown in this video. I didn't know what was going on in Rooney's personal life. Great video
He is honestly the reason why I started watching football when I was a kid, watching what he did, hearing on the news the records he broke, it was crazy
Rooney not being the lean and skinny player most of the world expects makes me inspired when I feel I'm too big or heavy to be a class player, truly one of the most inspiring players ever (I'm 183cm 83kg)
This was brilliant and explains so much about Rooney that I was unaware of. His brilliance right throughout his career was second to none and his upbringing certainly contributed to his football genius. There will never be the like again!
If I were to be completely honest, all I expect from a professional player is quality play. In that context, Wayne Rooney was a legend. A very underrated legend. He was the reason why I started playing football. He is and will always be my favorite football player.
As a wee boy whenever asked who my favourite player was it was always rooney, just the passion and the variety of goals he scored and it was constant. Especially the season with the black sort of stripe across the kit
My favourite footballer of all time, his ability and sheer quality made me fall in love with watching Manchester United. Whilst I was too young to know of his controversial self off the pitch, he will probably remain in my eyes my favourite ever player
"Chaos" really does sum up Rooney, doesn't it? And no I don't just mean his life or his career. He was controlled chaos personified as a footballer. The raw aggressiveness of his play style that you mention was genuinely mesmerising to me, somehow even more exciting than any fancy dribble or tricks, and I can't really tell you why. Maybe because when you watch him press every ball, wrestle with his opponents, win back balls, and so much more over the course of 90 mins without losing a beat, you can't help but admire his energy and passion. And my god what a right foot he had. Imo, the accuracy of Rooney's strikes were on the same level of fantastic football as watching Messi dribble through 3 people or Ronaldo running faster with the ball than people without it. I'll be called crazy for this, but I think at his peak, on his day, Rooney could go kick for kick with the aliens. But that's the thing, isn't it? He didn't stay at his peak, and it wasn't always his day. He didn't last long enough to achieve the things he might have been able to, and it is saddening. But as a united fan my entire life, let me just tell you this much- nothing made me fall in love with football more than the days on which this man delivered his signature stunning performance. Thank you Wayne Rooney. You may just be my favourite footballer ever.
The thing with him is he peaked super young. You’re not supposed to hit the heights so soon like he did. Other players who hit the same heights in the same time were Messi and Ronaldo. Some players have a lot of fuel in their tank. Rooney used up everything and didn’t have much left as he hit 30s. He didn’t take care of his body well and it showed. Nonetheless, when he was in his peak, he was one of the greatest to ever play this game. Sensational talent. Unforgettable footballer. Undeniable legend.
Things that happen off the pitch stay off the pitch. On the pitch, Rooney play was a majestic beauty to behold, for the football enthusiast, it was a style of play that isnt comparable to messi and ronaldo, yet performed when it was needed to
His achievements as a footballer are notable and is his testimony to the game. Listening on UA-cam to the managers who managed him and the players who played with him, all confirm his talent on the field. Those of us, old men like me, (DOB: 1946) remember special players in the English league, season after season and I can't remember a player like him. We can all wax lyrical about his behaviour, but listening to him speak intelligently and articulately nowadays, in various videos, about it all in a calm and honest manner is interesting. He did well for his clubs and he did well for England, and I've really loved watching him play over the years.
I really love the insight. I'm an American and watched him but only when Ronaldo was at Man U, but when he came over yonder and I saw his assist get splattered over everything, i always wondered what his career was really like. Very informative!!
As an Evertonian of 60 yrs never have I seen a talent own the pitch like Wayne did at the age of just 16. Proper legend and a 1 off talent never will we see a Wayne Rooney ever again. It was a pleasure to watch you live Wayne.... COYB
I am not from the UK but have always adored Manchester United and when I was 11, I had the chance to go to Old Trafford to finally have my dream come true...United vs City. I can remember being in the stands and the fans were just getting ready to sit down again as we were behind Joe Hart and thought the ball had gone out as you could see it bounce of the back of the City Defender. Seconds later, my best childhood memory ever was created
Thank you so much for this Vizeh, He is the guy that got me into football the greatest english player of all time no questions, the disrespect he getss is unfathomable
I love Wayne Rooney one of if not my favourite players ever. I do feel bad for him because of the massive weights he would have on his shoulders. His best years were probably from 2004-2014 individually.
I am just so happy someone mentions Wayne Rooney and his legacy, because back when I was in 6th grade, I would get laughed out the school for saying Wayne Rooney is my football idol instead of say Messi, Ronaldo, Ramos, Iniesta, Neuer, etc.
Growing up in the 2000s and a man united fan Wayne Rooney was my hero and is still my favourite ever player to play the game but when I mention to people that he's my favourite player sometimes I'll get a funny look or a comment saying he wasn't that good and I'll turn around and say how many goals he scored just to shut them up but for some reason that isn't good enough for them and I don't understand why especially when Rooney's game wasnt solely focused on goals that this man dosent get the respect he deserves in my eyes he is the GOAT and I will argue with people over that until I die
You never realise just how good he was till you see many of his career stats in front of you, it's ironic given how much he won that somehow everyone seems to have expected more from him
Rooney is one of my favourite united players of all time. Rooney would literally play at LB if Fergie told him he would and be one of our best players on the field. He always had a goal in him when we needed it, whether it was from a worldie of a strike, breathtaking assit header volley free kick. The man was a machine. Would often play through injuries, which did not help him play in his later years.. no doubt he will be the last of this type of player. He got hounded by the media. And still performed
I wasn't expecting much from this (unfamiliar with your channel) but I have to say this is a thought provoking, important video about English football and English culture in general. Well done!
N e yous see the boy slide tackle in a break away situation. the dying minutes of a DC. United game, then he launches 69yards delivering a perfect ball to header to goal. What a g
Dream footballer. I was always jealous of Man Utd for having him. Aggressive, fast, passionate, excellent technique, excellent ball carrying, excellent passing, world class finishing and could be played in multiple positions. That Rooney managed to play at such a elite level while dealing with his numerous personal issues and paparazzi-like media attention makes him even more impressive to me.
Thank you for making this video about wayne rooney I have seen many videos about his story but this left me surprised I did not know that rooney has had such a stressful life beyond football being my favorite footballer I hope one day to meet him and even if he is now coach of dc united for me he will always remain an icon of English football and a legend of the many of manchester united
As a fan obviously I can admit that Man Utd have countless problems at the moment both on and off the pitch, but I honestly think on the pitch, one of the major things we lack now is someone like Rooney. He was a world class striker, but he was also a team player, he never had the problem of being too selfish, and could find a dangerous pass to others, which was what made Utd's attack so scary back then. Now we're lucky if we score.
I understand his actions wholeheartedly. I did similar things to deal with my feelings and I never had nearly a fraction of the amount of pressure and public humiliation that Rooney had. He's a human being
I love that man, no homo. I would put his jersey as a kid and feel a surge of power like some invisible connections from him, man is a goat in his own right. God bless Rooney
As a united fan this is fucking awesome mate. Brought it to the bare bones and gave the man the credit he deserves. Can I just advise people to go see the documentary on our all time greatest midfielder Sir Bobby Charlton. I know Scholes is wicked but just fit the clubs history and all time English legend he has to be the greatest. I mean if Sir Alex says he is then I must be in good company. All best lads and lasses get home safe and tell your nearest and dearest you love them because tomorrow is not promised.
Rooney the Ram! Loved his season as Derby manager. It could have gone horribly wrong: Morris was bringing in new managers for headlines instead of good footballing reasons, but Rooney gave a demoralised group of players a real belief in themselves & prevented them from being the whipping boys of the Championship & they nearly stayed up despite being deducted 21 pts.
Wayne Rooney did so much more than just score goals. Defenders were petrified. He was built like an ox and they knew he had great talent. Rooney alone could win the game without even scoring a goal himself. He was just that sort of player, that had a presence.
The fact that ronaldo recently made fun of wayne rooney's appearance even though he knew how hurt rooney was from jonathan ross's comments really shows the type of person he is
As a liverpool fan it hurts me that if rooney was born In a different territory of Liverpool he could've been our academy player and went on properly to become a liverpool player legend heck even make it to the klopp era. That would've been an amazing dream
Rooney at the end of the day is a massive chav. A chav that has been blessed as one of the greatest players England has ever produced. Young, unbelievably rich and a lose cannon.
I love these mini documentaries, Rooney is one of the best English players of all time, even if you don’t like him you can admit he was a brilliant player

I love Wayne Rooney one of if not my favourite players ever. I do feel bad for him because of the massive weights he would have on his shoulders. His best years were probably from 2004-2014 individually.
I am just so happy someone mentions Wayne Rooney and his legacy, because back when I was in 6th grade, I would get laughed out the school for saying Wayne Rooney is my football idol instead of say Messi, Ronaldo, Ramos, Iniesta, Neuer, etc.
great work mate.. i love it that you show the good the bad and the ugly, the WHOLE story.. keep it up!!
Even if he played for manu he’s the kind of player that you have to give him respect regardless what club they play.
My Idol growing up, watching him play was always so special, made me fall in love with the beautiful game
As a man utd supporter, loved him and always will be ....and love this new kind of documentary kind video.....keep up the good works👍🔥
I miss that man. I wish I was old enough to properly appreciate what I was seeing in 2010, my favourite player of all time.
And still performed
these documentaries are godlike, thanks Vizeh
I wasn't expecting much from this (unfamiliar with your channel) but I have to say this is a thought provoking, important video about English football and English culture in general. Well done!
Brilliant video. My all time favorite player - someone who would sooner die than give up during a match.
N e yous see the boy slide tackle in a break away situation. the dying minutes of a DC. United game, then he launches 69yards delivering a perfect ball to header to goal. What a g
One of the best vids in 2023 so far, good job
Thank you so much man!
Absolutely love this format. Please keep doing videos like this
Thank you bro!
I still remember that volley goal like it was yesterday. Just finished arguing with the ref and banged it top corner. Great goal.
You're very welcome❤️
When I first set my eyes on Rooney, when he scored against Arsenal, I couldn’t believe it. What an extraordinary young man.🎉
This was fantastic...thank you so much.
Around halfway through, and this is a great documentary.
Wayne Rooney is the Greatest English player I have ever seen. He was majestic with a football at his feet
Love this video! Rooney was my idol growing up. Thank you for a great video
This is a wonderful video essay. Well done. Deffo a new subscriber in myself.
because of Rooney, I got into soccer and became a ManU fan as a 10 years kid. Always be the biggest fan
I understand his actions wholeheartedly. I did similar things to deal with my feelings and I never had nearly a fraction of the amount of pressure and public humiliation that Rooney had. He's a human being
Digging the new style of content Liam! Keep it up :)
More to come!💪🏼
Damn, definitely stepped up your game at making videos, love the video essays. Subbed now
Thank you bro❤
As a United fan, I admit that I took Rooney for granted.
I love that man, no homo. I would put his jersey as a kid and feel a surge of power like some invisible connections from him, man is a goat in his own right. God bless Rooney
Just wanna say thank you so much for this video❤
As a united fan this is fucking awesome mate. Brought it to the bare bones and gave the man the credit he deserves. Can I just advise people to go see the documentary on our all time greatest midfielder Sir Bobby Charlton. I know Scholes is wicked but just fit the clubs history and all time English legend he has to be the greatest. I mean if Sir Alex says he is then I must be in good company. All best lads and lasses get home safe and tell your nearest and dearest you love them because tomorrow is not promised.
One of my favorite players growing up. Love you Wazza ❤️
Rooney was a beast I’ve always liked him. Even though I’ve never liked United he was one of those players that you want in your team no matter what
Rooney the Ram!
I'm and Arsenal supporter and Rooney is the one United player I'd call myself a fan of. Even though he terrorized us lol. Great player.
The lad is a legend already.
Rooney is my favourite player. He's the reason I love Manchester United and he's the reason why I watch football instead of just playing it.
Rooney was a warrior! That volley against Newcastle will never leave my memory!!! 💪🏽
I love the way this way 9 days ago and Rooney is being classed as England's standalone top scorer even though he now shares that accolade
Its crazy how many people dismiss Rooney as one of the best players the premier league has ever seen, so under rated.
Liverpool fan here…. He played for 2 of our biggest rivals and I have no issue saying that Rooney was absolutely ridiculous!
A truly amazing video, well done 👏
The fact that ronaldo recently made fun of wayne rooney's appearance even though he knew how hurt rooney was from jonathan ross's comments really shows the type of person he is
so beautifully narrated😍
As a liverpool fan it hurts me that if rooney was born In a different territory of Liverpool he could've been our academy player and went on properly to become a liverpool player legend heck even make it to the klopp era. That would've been an amazing dream
what a football player. best player i ever seen.
Rooney at the end of the day is a massive chav. A chav that has been blessed as one of the greatest players England has ever produced. Young, unbelievably rich and a lose cannon.
