i cant wrap my head around the fact that theres millions who havent seen this guy vids since he left fifa this guys a gem
True
Love you man
Bro woke up and chose facts
isn't it
fr
One day, Vizeh just woke up and chose to start making the best content on youtube. Absolutely insane video yet again.
Wow, thanks!❤
Agreed
Agreed
fax, can’t get enough of these
@@Vizeh you really should start doing football journalism I personally think you'd be great at it
My god I actually had no idea about how deep football could get. This is a really interesting and informative video.well done Vizeh.
My Pleasure my friend!
The Peru disaster is just heartbreaking, as an English fan you see the likes of Hillsborough and the Bradford City fire disaster as some really dark days but nothing can compare to the Peru v Argentina Game
I’m stunned that I never knew about it before researching this video, honestly!
Very well made video.
@@Vizeh I am from Peru and I remember my dad mentioned this disaster long ago and how shocking it was back them.
And as indonesian its still shock me,im an arema fans(the club which the fans causing the riot),that tragedy happens in 1 oktober 2022 its really recent im really shocked so many friends at my highschool and middle school are dead its an disaster and at that times indonesia have an other problems its really shock me at that times,i remember the ligue were being stopped and there's an rumour that fifa banned our national teams for 20 years(which is didnt happened)
Used to watch this channel until I stopped playing FIFA in 2020, now back because of the new style of videos. Keep up the good work man. You're awesome at making this type of content
I’m very grateful to have you back bro!
👍
I stopped playing FIFA in late 2022. Glad I won’t get scammed anymore
I’m surprised I never heard that Dynamo Kyiv story, that’s one of the best football stories I’ve ever heard and should be made into a movie, very very inspiring how they managed to show that defiance
It was. Escape to Victory.
It was made into a movie. The name of the movie is “Escape to Victory” with Sylvester Stallone. Other famous players like Pele, Bobby Moore, Summerbee, and more were also part of the movie.
@@djmanco8153 I’ve got to see it, sounds amazing
@@djmanco8153 it’s not about Dynamo Kyiv at all
Don't forget Sir Michael Caine!
31:31 Also for the Peru disaster, there was a fan who ran onto the pitch before everyone else. The security responded by beating the man with batons brutally, in front of the whole stadium. This outraged the fans, and then the controversial referee decision just set them off. “We attacked, they defended and this continued until a play came where their defender went to clear - and our player, Kilo Lobaton, raised his foot to block and the ball rebounded into the goal - but the referee said it was a foul, so he disallowed it. This is why the crowd began to get very upset." one of the Peru players later said. Two spectators entered the field of play. The first was a bouncer known as Bomba, who tried to hit the referee before being both stopped by police and manhandled off the field. The second, Edilberto Cuenca, then suffered a brutal assault. “Our very own policemen were kicking him and beating him as if he were the enemy. This is what raised everybody's anger - including mine," one fan also recalled. While some fans who escaped from the stadium managed to open the gates and free those trapped inside, others became involved in a battle with armed police. The official number of those who died is 328, but this may be an underestimate, as it does not include anyone killed by gunfire. There are many eyewitness accounts of people dying of gunshot wounds, but the judge appointed to investigate the disaster, Judge Benjamin Castaneda, was never able to find the bodies to prove it.
Great piece of info to add to it, the police also seems to be the aggressor in these type of events.
@@Vizeh For sure don’t want to blame corruption but it could be a factor in the way that the police acted.
Almost same as arema vs persebaya in indonesia here
That's so fucked. Imagine your family member goes out one day to watch a football match. Then they never come back, you hear reports of hundreds of people dying, some by gunshot wounds, and their body just... doesn't ever turn up.
Nicely done, Liam!
For the Kanjuruhan Disaster segment I would like to suggest to you to watch Persebaya Surabaya's perspective on the whole event. Whilst most of the international community solely blamed police negligence for this tragedy, it is easy for us to forget that the disaster was a culmination of years upon years of toxicity within the world of Indonesian football. The Arema-Persebaya match is pretty much like West Ham-Millwall in England and the animosity was in an all-time high at the Kanjuruhan on that fateful day. Even before the match ended the Arema fans has been hurling verbal abuse at the Persebaya players and before the whole pitch invasion thing they threw rocks and bottles at the Persebaya camp, forcing them to leave the pitch immediately. Things were also out of control outside the stadium even before the Arema fans made their way into the pitch, with the armored vehicle carrying the Persebaya players being attacked and a number of vehicles being burnt and destroyed, including police vehicles. Safe to say the police was overwhelmed on that day and in such a state of panic they did things that they shouldn't have done with the tear gas. The stadium was also severely overcrowded as the match organizers sold more tickets than they should due to the intense nature of this rivalry potentially bringing them a quick buck.
Long story short, was Kanjuruhan a result of police negligence? Yes, but it is also a result of unruly fans and a greedy club that was solely driven by profit without any shred of humanity in them. Arema and their fans actually got a lot of sympathy for the tragedy until Persebaya's video came out, which basically turned the entire nation against them. The fact that the police held themselves accountable (even though in the most bare minimum of sense) while Arema and their fans avoided responsibility for this whole thing infuriates the Indonesian football community until this day.
100% agree with this, I think greedy arema official combined with the barbaric nature of arema fans are the cause. If the police didn't use tear gas, the persebaya and arema players would be the victim at kanjuruhan. I don't usually side with the police, especially here in the US, but this time I don't think they're to blame. Glad there were no persebaya fans at that match too, could've been a lot worse
Bornana
Arema is officially the most hated club in Indonesia right now
8:13 why does it just cut randomly like we didn't even get to see what this it's called
Wow vizeh nailing every god damn great topic that could be talked about in the football world !
You've been killing it big time in the last 2 months, let' go WE LOVE YOU !
You legend mate!
@@Vizeh u been on form recently
I guess tragedy can strike easier when there is so much emotion put into a game
6:00 Funny Story i was born early bc of the 1998 WC final, my mother hated that french won. She got so mad that she started having contractions. A lot of pain and 2 days later i was born. 14th July 1998 on the French National Day xD.
I wanted to make some corrections on the Narcoball segment.
13:15 The guy on the right is Chapo Guzmán, a mexican drug lord, so he has nothing to do with the subject.
13:38 The match was between America and Medellin, yet you mentioned and used a picture of the argentinian team Independiente, which had nothing to do with it. And I think it's worth mentioning that after the murdering of the referee, the league was cancelled and there was no champion that year.
14:10 By 1994 the Medellin Cartel had already been taking down with the death of Pablo Escobar in december 1993, so while there were threats against the national team in the USA World Cup, they weren't made by Escobar or the Cartel as you suggest.
Love the vid! Some of these incidents remind me of what happened recently at a Liga MX game between Querétaro and Atlas on March 5th, 2022. A riot broke out between the fans and it got very messy. If you do a part 2 to this, this one would be a great one to add!
I was going to put that in but simply couldn't fit in it, I have that planned for Part 2 my friend
I remember hearing about it on the news. It broke my heart seeing the brief footage of men having their clothes torn off, brutally beaten (whether by fists or weapons), and seeing the men nude and lifeless knowing they were someone’s son, brother, dad, uncle or grandpa. What caught my attention is all the injured and dead were men. The videos of the beatings are out there but don’t look it up, you’ll never forget it.
@@Vizeh Back in 2011 there was a cartel/gang gunfight practically next to the Santos Laguna stadium during a game.
ua-cam.com/video/AP3a7ol6O08/v-deo.html
You can kind of hear what some think were grenades or explosions at the 17-18 second mark followed by gunshots and player/fan reactions.
@@acetixi3770 Just saw pictures and man, how can you kill other people over a football game?
Now a video and they were whipping and stripping other people over being fans of another team, the mexican government is trying to pass it off as 22 injured but there are probably atleast 1 guy dead from those horrific beatings.
Absolutely love these deep dives. Elite content, Vizeh! 🙌🏽
Glad you like them!❤
Great video! There's also the tragic story of Miklós Fehér, the hungarian benfica player who died on the pitch and it's probably the saddest moment in Benfica history
I can't believe the Cruyff one was only at the tip of the iceberg, that was scary as hell to think he could've got murdered completely changing the trajectory of the sport
His absence from Argentina 78 tournament (in his prime) & subsequent period of reflection kinda **did** change the trajectory of the game. Would Argentina have still won? Would the influx of South American players to England have happened, if the Dutch Master had prevailed, rather than Mario Kempes & co? It’s impossible to say, except that it would have been a different tournament. I understand what you mean about Barça, guardiola & tiki taka, but these tactical themes have always been evolving & ‘total football’ was already an established philosophy of play, by Rinus Michels - Cruyff’s coach at both Ajax & Barça.
@ 14:15 to 15:05 the actual photage there is from a match in South African Premier Soccer League from October '98 between Moroka Swallow and Jomo Cosmos in Johannesburg. the score was 2 - 0 and yes nobody died that day. Unfortunately Cibi (with jersey no 10 ) died in 2016 from kidney related issues.
Some of my older Peruvian family members told me about that riot, how they remember the exact day vividly and all. Just absolutely wild stuff man.
I’m stunned that I’ve never heard about it prior to uploading this video
These iceberg videos are awesome man! I'd love to see a LaLiga one in the future, considering its rich history. Keep it up!
Truly an amazing video, it’s videos like this that highlights the importance of UA-cam. I had never heard of the Estadio Nacional disaster until today. Liam, you are a legend and you need to make more videos like this. May all those who died in the disasters you talked about rest in peace
Thank you my friend
Your latest videos are quality, man. I was watching the game live, when Marc Vivien Foe passed away in that Confederations tournament in summer 2003. As a youth footballer at the time, that impacted me heavily.
I am learning new things every day from you. Thanks Liam for this
All love man
Part 2 should include a similar incident as the Gate 12 which occurred in Greece, the Gate 7 incident. The biggest tragedy in Greek Sports.
In February 2nd of 1981, Olympiacos faced big rivals, AEK Athens for a championship game. The game took place at the old G.Karaiskakis stadium (not the new that you visited with Burnley away day). Olympiacos took an emphatic win against their rivals with a scoreline of 6-0. The fans where ecstatic but that unfortunately led them from joy to darkness...
The fans wanted to move from Gate 7 to Gate 1 which it was close to the players, so they could congratulate them for the big win. The big mass of people moving in such small space caused a man in front to slip and fall to the ground. This slip caused a "domino effect", which led to massive body slamming and oxygen depletion, causing many causalities and serious injuries.
The total record of casualties was 21 people and the injuries was 55+ people. A lot of them where very young too. Some of the survivors of the incident described it as "horror scene straight out of a movie".
Every year it is being memorised from Gate 7 fans and Olympiacos players pay their respects in a statue made in their memory.
I think it could be a very interesting topic to do your research and why not include in this series. Keep up the good work!!!
@vizeh , I think you forgot about Athletic Bilbao V Barcelona in the super copa. Maradona started absolutely beating the hell out of their players, Really hurting the goalkeeper.
If you do another one of these:
Alexandre Villaplane
French captain at the first ever World Cup
Got caught up with gamblers, received a ban but ended up going to prison
One of his dark connections recruited him to the Nazis in occupied France, he was an SS officer and regarded as a bloodthirsty sociopath. When he saw the war was turning he started letting people go and making a big point of ‘sparing them’ in hope he would face trials for treason/war crimes. Didn’t matter
Executed by firing squad
Sandor Szucs
Hungarian defender who would have likely played with the golden team at the 54 World Cup (where they lost in the final due to their lack of defending - among other things)
Tried to defect to the west after hearing AC milan might be interested, was arrested at the border and later executed. Turned out the entire thing was a set up
1934 World Cup - Coppa Del Duce
If you thought Qatar was controversial how about fascist Italy as hosts.
They were meant to play a qualifier however their opponents Greece withdrew (not suspicious) there’s plenty of talks of the refs being under pretty clear instruction and the goal they score to beat the Austrian wunderteam (featuring Sindelar) they clearly foul the keeper.
1978 World Cup Argentina
Again, if you thought Qatar was bad. Argentina was taken over by a Military dictatorship which proceeded to disappear thousands of ‘dissidents’. There’s been rumours the deciding group game Vs Peru was rigged (Argentina won 6-0 when they had to win by 4 clear goals). The final took place less than a kilometre from ESMA, which was where subversives were being held, tortured and killed. They could hear the cheers from the crowd in the stadium.
1974 World Cup Qualifier
Chile vs USSR. Chile has just been taken over by a brutal Military coup in 1973, they immediately started purging the country of left wing citizens. The national stadium was being used as a concentration camp and carrying out executions. The USSR obviously wasn’t happy about this and refused to play. FIFA carried out an inspection of the stadium, the Chileans simply moved the prisoners and hosed down all the blood. FIFA said it was all good, USSR refused to show up. The match kicks off, Chile walk the ball into the empty net and are declared winners.
German teams on drugs
Now a fairly open secret the West Germany teams of the 50s and 60s took speed (Pervitin- given to the Wehrmakt in WW2 to allow them to go for hours without sleep) as a performance enhancer - this includes the 1954 World Cup final which they won.
Ceasefire Massacre/World Cup Massacre
Italy vs Ireland 1994 World Cup. A Ulster paramilitary group shot up a pub that they knew would be showing the game and would be full of Irish fans. 6 died 5 injured.
Superga Air Disaster - before the Munich air disaster this tragedy hit the Grande Torino team, who dominated Italian football in the 1940s.
Jewish managers who survived the Holocaust-
Erni Erbstein (manager of Grande Torino) and Bela Guttmann who won 2 UCLs with Benfica, both were Jewish Hungarians who survived the Holocaust by various means but lost family members
The Death Match was one of the most iconic football games, that Kiev team, especially in times like this when Ukraine faces war, continues to inspire and influence footballers. True heroes with true passion.
Are you aware that the story in the form it's related in this video is pure myth and has been demonstrated to be the product of Soviet propaganda?
ive never watched a soccor match before, or even played soccer tbh, so this was one of the most enlightening icebergs ive seen in a while. we definitely need a part 2
that’s what’s so great about icebergs, even people who don’t have an interest in the sport, can be interested in the video/iceberg

@@removeyoutubehandles in the us they call it soccer, idk why, but they do, so stop being a baby about a fvcking word 😂💀
This is one of the reasons why soccer is the king of all sports. The dark history is what made me my favorite sport hands down. Soccer has been the king of all sports for over 100 years and counting. If americans knew more about soccer history and tradition, more americans would be more fascinated and more inspired to make it popular in the US. The world cup is what made me fall in love with the sport since I watched USA play in the 1990 world cup.
legit one of best videos you’ve ever made. well researched and right tone. you’ve come a long way from your early fifa days. i hope to see more football related content like this

@@Vizeh very proud of you and how you've managed to find yourself and style of videos
Having learned a good portion of the iceberg through HITC Sevens, I have to say this is a well-researched well-produced bite-sized summary of each event
HITC is the goat of Journalism in the UA-cam space, he's where I found out about the North Korea propaganda being false!
Been watching for a while and love your new style of vids bro. One of the first footballing channels I ever subscribed to and happy to see you still going strong. Supporting you all the way from Vermont USA.

finally a great football iceberg video! great work mate!
appreciate it my friend!
Thank you for opening my eyes. It still astounds me that events such as these could even occur over what is literally a game. I am frightened but also thoroughly informed
Mate you made a mistake with this story 14:20
1.This took place in Johannesburg, South Africa.
2. The game was a Premier soccer league match between Moroka Swallows (dark red) and Jomo Cosmos(White and Blue)
3. Johannesburg has a lot of thunderstorms due to its subtropical climate as well as the fact thats its in an elevated part of the country.
Liam , been watching your vids since you played fifa - very happy to see you grow and evolve as a content creator and person. Keep it up !
The thing that annoys me the most about the gay footballer was even if it was “consensual” it is illegal for anyone older than 18 to engage in sexual relations with anyone under 18. So even if the kid agreed to it it’s still illegal and he would’ve gone to jail either way.
Bro, it's crazy that I'm Peruvian and I live in Lima but I didn't even know about the Lima 1964 Football Tragedy. Keep uploading this kind of content, it's really entertaining and interesting!

What a w video bro. The amount of effort is crazy. I’ve learnt so much😂. Thx lol
Hope to do more lad!
I've only just got onto your channel the past 2 days , but I reckon this kind of content is your strong point !
one thing he left out was the atlas vs queretaro match in the mexican league that happened last year. during the match both team supporters were clashing back and forth until some of the security gates were broken into and the queretaro fans started beating up and killing atlas fans with whatever they had in hand. many used custom pick axes, the corner flag, and even using broken seat parts. one of the most sad and famous pictures from the incident is the family that has 2 children running away with the queretaro jersey on and the other kid with nothing on bc he was wearing the atlas jersey. another pic that went viral was some queretaro fans posing after the situation with visible blood stains in the shoes. and after all of that… the media lied to everyone saying no one died when in reality 30 to maybe even 50 ppl died from the incident. it made the league from now on make sure that if these teams play each other again it’s either a closed door game or no visiting fans from each side.
Absolutely smashing it with these documentary style videos mate, Alfie from HITC Sevens is the only comparable guy to you imo, and yous are both unreal with the amount of time and effort yous put into the videos. Much love brother, keep it up

Can somebody explain to me about 26:30 I am not understanding it
At the end of the game, Boca Junior fans began to leave the stadium. They left through Gate 12, which was originally blocked, but the fans went through anyway. If I'm not mistaking, the stairwell of Gate 12 collapsed into some of the fans as they were trying to leave the stadium
those Ukrainian players are heros, they had more reason to throw the games but instead decided to put their country ahead of their lives and win to lift their countries spirit. truly inspirational
🇺🇦❤️
Glad to hear you mention the story of Dynamo Kiev, it's an incredible story of perseverance. Also the story of Sindelar, examples of people taking a stand against fascism that we should all remember
What about Ledger Ritson (and later, Derek Dooley), the man who lost a leg to football? Poor Ledger was a fair standard footballer who might have been a bit special, but he broke his leg, and came back, then broke his leg, and came back and had a decent run in the first team, then broke his leg, and came back, and had another decent run in the first team, then broke his leg and tried to come back, and (you guessed it) he broke his leg. Finally, the doctors had a good look at him, and a combination of bone disease and eventually gangrene claimed his leg. Although Ledger eventually managed clubs in the football league, he was never the same again.
bro I love vizeh so much man. so underrated and always bangers

To be fair, every side on kanjuruhan stadium disaster share the blame: the organisers for ignoring the police advice to reschedule the match and reduce the maximum spectator, the police for using tear gas and whoever the genius who decided to seal the gates, and the fans for forgetting that this is just a game
There is an iceberg method of going from most known to least known, maybe you can put the well known ones in the part 2 at the top of the iceberg. Great vid as always
The lightning strike DID NOT happen in the DRC, it was the South African PSL match between Moroka Swallows and Joni Cosmos. The story made headlines especially because players from Jomo Cosmos were unharmed and only Swallos players suffered including their star player who also played for the National team and he was never the same since.

Honestly some of the best content on UA-cam right now. The switch the the mini-doc style is brilliant and the research put into it is incredible, would love to see one made of the bradford city fire disaster around the time it happened (last game of the English season incase some don't know) as I feel like it's slipping away into obscurity and is really interesting on the horrific build up that led to the fire in the first place

Marc Vivien Foe's death hit me hard. He scored the last goal scored by a City player at Maine Road. I remember just before it was knocked down, my Dad took me to there for one last walk-around and I went to read the graffiti. It was all tributes to Foe. He was so good. Lots of childhood memories
This has to be the best video you’ve ever done Liam
Excellent video. But there is something wrong.
For the Bena Tshadi vs Basanga match, there is actually no known footage of the incident.
The footage on the video is from a Premier Soccer League match between Moroka Swallows and Jomo Cosmos, which coincidentally happened in the same year. In that game fortunately no one was killed.

12:16 - it's not in Congo. It happened in South Africa
great video, love your work!
this video is so amazing, i learnt SO much. Great video.
While this may not be directly football related, but I think in a potential part 2 you should include the mass execution of political dissidents in Equatorial Guinea on Christmas Eve 1969, where brutal dictator Francisco Macias Nguema rounded up and murdered 186 people on the grounds of his country’s national football stadium, while „Those Were the Days” by Mary Hopkin were playing on the stadium amps. Pretty horrifying.
Great video Vizeh, if you decide to ever make another football iceberg video I suggest you'd take a look at polish football as there were many fan related incidents and a lot of matchfixing. Most of the corruption in the polish footballing piramid has yet to be covered by a english speaking media of sort. The most memorable scandel that comes to mind involed matchfixing a polish cup finale from 1998 between Amica Wronki and Alluminium Konin. The polish football sphere has more to offer and just by looking into it you could uncover some gems. Not even a while ago in a match between my local Lechia Gdansk and Akademija Pandev in the Europa Confrence League Qualifiers some hooligans stormed our ultras end and made a mess which almost led to lechia being kicked out of the Qualis. Anyhow I hope you get to read this as history of polish football deserves more regonition outside of Poland. Good luck going forward.
Ain’t no fucking way there’s match fixing going on with Pierluigi there. That’s nuts fr
Some of that was genuinely scary. Amazing video Liam ❤
A hungarian footballer was executed aswell, with no reason. He played with Puskas Ferenc too, but it is believed he had connections with corrupt hungarian people. This happened in the 1950s i believe.
The lightning striking the pitch incident actually happened in South Africa, not Congo. It was Moroka Swallows vs Jomo Cosmos.
viz u a top man I'm so happy to see you enjoying yourself with this new format i wish you the best
