Well done #Toledo . I am thrilled to see someone finally got the memo on #Headroom . I congratulate Jeep for offering #Manuals across the board as enthusiast drivers (and who else buys Jeeps) really want them. Your offroading comparison to other trucks is mostly on point. But I think the ZR2 gives the gladiator a run for its money. The ZR2 has front and rear lockers
I am seriously considering the Gladiator as my next purchase. Other pickups tow, but this one is also a convertible. Other pickups go off-road, but those dont tow. This thing just ticks so many boxes if you are only going to have 1 car. For the same money, you could have a pretty nice Camry. Would you actually want a Camry over this? A “car” that goes seriously off road, that also tows and hauls, that also gets respectable mileage, that’s also a convertible and the doors come off? It’s hard to argue with that. My next mid-life-chrysler.
Great review as always Alex. I had a very long comment typed out. I'll just say, anyone that considers this vehicle, you must be very brand-blind or ill-informed. Weigh all options and specs with other options, please, people. This thing is silly. Not to mention, if you plan on taking this on the trail; it has two feet longer wheelbase than a JKU, TWO feet. I look forward to seeing these in parking lots with too many light bars, unnecessarily large tires with a cheap suspension lift, and absolutely zero dirt on the body. All that said, they'll sell all of them.
Tony P for my lifestyle and location it's perfect. It's anything but silly. And considering you've never likely been in one what do you know. For a lot of us it will be a great tool.

Tony P I disagree. When we think of crap chrysler products, what we are really talking about is crap benz products. I have two promasters and a fiat 500, and they are quality vehicles and ultra reliable. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s true. It’s the dark days of benz that continues to give fca a bad rep. As to the gladiator, recognize that it’s truly unique. It’s a 4 door pickup that hauls and tows, but it’s also a king of the hill off-roader. Oh and it’s a convertible whose doors and windshield come off. NOTHING else is remotely like that.
@@kipamore When did I mention MB or 'crap Chrysler' products? I have nothing against Jeep or Chrysler products. Though they are, statistically, WELL below the industry average in reliability: www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2019-us-vehicle-dependability-studyvds The main, unique, thing in this segment for the Gladiator is the solid front axle and the absurd price-point. A Tundra hauls more, costs less, has significantly more the power, and comes with Toyota reliability (see above). Though I understand it's much larger and in an (arguably) different segment. That said, there are even more suitable vehicles, for most consumers, that directly compare to the Gladiator that are also much cheaper. Have you seen the windshield removed from a JK/JL? Not only is it a huge asspain to fold down (not remove), it still leaves a 'frame' around the area. Gone are the days of CJ-5/7 or even 73 series Land Cruisers thanks to safety standards. The doors, I'll give you that. Though nearly every newer Jeep I see here in Utah (or anywhere I've traveled) still has the standard doors installed though-out the year. I suppose it's along the same lines of driving around in your Porsche GT2 MR down Beverly Hills Blvd and claiming it posted the fasted laptime on the 'Ring for a modified production car. Great it can do it, though it'll never do that again. Merely bragging rights. Lastly, I don't know what your criteria is for "king of the hill off-roader" but the Land Cruiser guys may have something to say about that. To Americans, maybe, but there are 194 other countries that will attest to the fact that the Land Cruiser is the only choice.
Janet Airlines you might think that, but I have two 2014 promasters, both with over 440,000 miles on them. And I have a 15 fiat 500 Abarth, also ultra reliable. All three are Fiat products built in mexico. I think that when we think of FCA junk, what we are really talking about is Mercedes junk - the bad engineering and poor quality that resulted as benz ran the company into the ground. Those days are long gone, but the reputation remains.
Alex, how is the chassis stiffness, especially as compared to (1) other pickups or (2) other Renegades? That is usually the big negative compromise of a pickup for big off camber off roading and one might expect it to be worse with a soft top pickup. Is it?
Don't get why FCA doesn't offer the 5.7L Hemi in this Jeep. Plenty of aftermarket versions are out, and the 5.7L is a easy fit in the engine compartment.
@Mario Lopez I don't think cornering ability and high speeds are of much concern to people looking for a Hemi Wrangler. The Hemi has more usable power. Besides that, people literally buy V8s just of sound alone.
I saw this at the San Jose auto show and I really like it. I going to have to wait to get an used one like five years down the road as the price is out of my budget for the top of the line version. It’s nice and very unique

I've been quite impressed with the quality and build of my 2016 Jeep; I think some aspects of FCA are performing surprisingly well. Really impressed that they've made the base model something someone might actually want to own.
Much as was the case with the hard-cover bed of the Chevy Avalanche, I have always had a hard time understanding why these automotive companies don't design these type of "hard-top convertible" trucks with standard storage for these awkward removable pieces. I was always removing them and placing them in my garage with the hopes that it wouldn't rain on me when I was too far away to replace them or to simply keep them out of the way when hauling. Since spare tires on trucks are universally stored underneath the vehicle, why don't they simply design a false bottom in the bed with a steel reinforced covering that can support cargo weight? That way you could remove the roof/bed covering, lift the false bottom of the bed, place the pieces inside, close the false floor and then everything would be stored neatly out of the way. Am I oversimplifying the matter or are automotive makers simply not willing to spend the money for the R&D?
Good full review! Do you find it comfortable to enter the rear passenger section, looks small You mention the window switches are in the center stack because the doors come off. Why do we need access to them with the doors of? Do they have a function still without doors? I have heard a few people say that but I can't figure out why. The Gladiator looks so much better in video than photos.
5:29 - 5:35 yeah but the base model gladiator is the same price as a Tacoma TRD Offroad edition. With the gladiator you get less towing capacity at 4,000 ibs and the taco coming in at 6,400. I guess the cool factor of owning a jeep and having a convertible/removable doors makes it worth it? I love the look of it, definitely stands out more than the taco, but bang for buck feels like I would be throwing away money vs. the taco.
Great review but why would you need window switches if the doors were off? Lol I think they put them there just to keep the weight of the door down. Don't know why they even put the door locks on the doors 🤔

Yes, this is so interesting. I thought the review goes up on Saturday? It's still Friday where I'm at. Though technically it's Saturday 12 AM on the East coast at the time of this post.
A great off-road vehicle, that many future owners will never drive over more than a gravel road, and thus end up being an overpriced, poor NVH, poor riding, mediocre interior, mediocre performance on-road truck. Then again, can't blame FCA for making what people want and charging what the market will bare, and they do make the Ram.
Great comment and I agree. I love the Jeep brand but came to the conclusion that I'd save myself a shit ton of money by ignoring overpriced off-road capable models.
I'm buying one - it can tow a horse trailer and survive mud season and when it comes to winter or potholes in the city, you won't waste a moment worrying about it. I'm psyched all for 41$k for a rubicon is outstanding value in today's market. The Tacoma has terrible backseats, the most uncomfortable front seats, plain Jane styling, and smaller brakes and lesser components by comparison.
@@jjames2162 Objectively, if you created an excel spreadsheet comparing the two on paper, wouldn't FCA's own Ram 1500 product offer superior on-road performance for the dollar in pretty much every way? Not arguing the Ram would hold a candle offroad, but if we're merely talking potholes and mud onroad, the Gladiator makes a lot of performance sacrifices for extreme terrain that those two road hazards really don't qualify for.
Husky Dinosaur I originally wanted the new 1500 with the off road package. It’s much more truck for the money: more room more bed more features more everything. But then I realized to get to some of the horse shows my daughter attends I will easily smash the front and bottom of that truck. Over time it won’t hold up. I think the new 1500 is as nice as a Mercedes or nicer. The Rubicon will get me everywhere without any concerns it will pull the horse trailer and when I go to NYC it’s easy to park in comparison Then there is the unique look. The RAM and it’s competitors look like every other truck. I love the look of this thing. It stands out. And it’s a convertible man! You can’t beat that
“They took a wrangler and discarded everything...except the doors. And the hood. And the fenders. And the roof tops....ok they took the wrangler and just changed the grill and added a bed”
It's a very interesting, even oddly compelling, vehicle. But I struggle for practical applications outside of maybe getting around your huge ranch (ya know, that huge ranch everyone has!) Hardcore hobbyists with money may take a Gladiator Rubicon as an OHV basis from new, but not very many in a world that's heavily focused on modifying used vehicles (and also values the inherent attributes of the Wrangler for OHV use). I guess that leaves regular midsized pickup truck buyers who have a need of midsize pickup truck capacities who are looking for something more characterful and fun, as the last reasonable market. But mostly it seems like this is going to be a fashion accessory, sadly...
Oddly enough I sort of agree. I wish it was about 2' shorter because the 5' bed is already a little silly. But then I also wish there was a 2 door version with perhaps a 7' bed where you could put 4x8 sheets of things in and they wouldn't hang out past the tailgate.
I actually like crank windows as it one less thing to go wrong, but when the whole ethos of the vehicle is 4wd, why can't it be in 4wd all off the time?
@@kipamore Wouldn't leaving it in 4H damage it on the pavement? I keep looking at jeeps and trucks and then just think I'll stick with my Forester XT as it has basic off road but is still fast enough on-road. @@hellkitty1014 thanks for the info. My wife wanted me to sell my heavily modified 2007 JKU and buy a Gladiator to tow her slightly modified 2015 JKU Rubicon. I bought a 2019 RAM 1500 Limited with 5.7 Etorque instead. Now I can trailer either Jeep.
I would buy a 6 speed Rubicon base and wait until the aftermarket designs a camper for the rear bed that is designed to replace the factory soft top, were it me. Very cool vehicle.
This is genius, I always wondered why jeep stopped making trucks
17:18 That banjo tho.
its finally here!! that looks like a ruff riding wagon.
This is good channel.
At least the Jeep knows what it wants to be.
Will an Ar-15 fit in the underseat bin?
Kevin CinnamonToast the storage compartment, although they say it’s for a fishing pole, was really made for a rifle. You will be able to easily lock a ar15 inside without any problems. Especially if you separate the upper and lower receiver.
Nice lifestyle vehicle, although pricey.
Is that the same old Pentastar?
wizetek from what I understand, it’s the same old pentastar but with start/stop. Not a bad thing - I have 2 2014 promasters with the pentastar, and they are bulletproof. Both have over 440,000 miles (freight delivery).
At launch, we were promised a hybrid pentastar, a hybrid turbo 4, and the diesel. Looks like we’re gonna have to wait.
Built in my hometown.
Washington Township?
Yes, this is so interesting. I thought the review goes up on Saturday? It's still Friday where I'm at. Though technically it's Saturday 12 AM on the East coast at the time of this post.
It’s pricey but will hold its value
Literally the add before this video was from Ford saying that the ranger is the most capable pickup truck
Edwin Alfredo 😂😂😂
Midnight ET on March 30th, Jeep embargo ends
But the diesel will not have manual transmission
The Rubicon will get me everywhere without any concerns it will pull the horse trailer and when I go to NYC it’s easy to park in comparison
Then there is the unique look. The RAM and it’s competitors look like every other truck. I love the look of this thing. It stands out.
And it’s a convertible man! You can’t beat that
Husky Dinosaur funny, I know more Jeep owners who take theirs off-road than those who don’t.
Cabin noise probably super loud on freeway?
Crash test ratings are horrible on the wrangler. Hopefully they will be better with this.
9:19, broken floor liner already.
“They took a wrangler and discarded everything...except the doors. And the hood. And the fenders. And the roof tops....ok they took the wrangler and just changed the grill and added a bed”
Old school guy here.. but has Jeep fixed there transmission or are they still junk..
The auto ZF is still junk.
I don't know if I like it , what do you guys think?
I like this better then the wrangler
Price no problem
Nothing beats Jeep.
Go topless my friend go topless . . .
I wonder why they brought this into the market instead of a redesigned Dakota? I'm guessing jeep possibly has more appeal? 🤷♂️
I swear the rear view mirror is installed upside down.
Best towing in 4x4 truck versions.
The one instance where I wished a truck had a shorter bed...
Oddly enough I sort of agree. I wish it was about 2' shorter because the 5' bed is already a little silly. But then I also wish there was a 2 door version with perhaps a 7' bed where you could put 4x8 sheets of things in and they wouldn't hang out past the tailgate.
Alex on Autos Exactly! A Wrangler Unlimited 4 door with a 4ft bed and a single cab/ extended cab with a 7ft bed would be perfect...
1 MPG more with the manual? Well, that's another quirk thing about this Jeep😜
They are going to sell the whee out of this truck/Jeep.. I can see adding a bed cap and a large Jeep SUV appearance.
Hooray!!
Overall very nice but the four wheel drive is somewhat primitive with no 4wd auto
HankDCFC Primitive is where the charm lies in a jeep. Seems crazy, but primitive is good. Crank windows would be a plus in a vehicle like this.
Moving that transfer case lever is like trying to stir a bucket of rocks.
I actually like crank windows as it one less thing to go wrong, but when the whole ethos of the vehicle is 4wd, why can't it be in 4wd all off the time?
HankDCFC It can be. Put it in 4H and leave it there, if you want to. But a fancy electronic center diff would be out of place here.
@@kipamore Wouldn't leaving it in 4H damage it on the pavement? I keep looking at jeeps and trucks and then just think I'll stick with my Forester XT as it has basic off road but is still fast enough on-road. I think the only one I really like is the Raptor, but I'm not spending 60K on one of those. Maybe wait a couple of years and get a cheap raptor.
I’m Gladheateher!
"... there is no good place to put in these top panels..."
Stands next to the pick-up bed... Hahaha 😆
@ 6:35
The question is, will the Gladiator drivers do the ✋?
It’s a GUN case Alex .. we have a 2nd amendment! You can say gun !
Alex lives in California...not much 2nd amendment left there.
