Look at the April 2019 issue of Consumer Reports magazine at a library- the Wrangler gets poor test drive scores, and low estimated reliability scores based on the last 10 years for similar Wranglers, and it still gets high owner satisfaction scores. In addition, worldwide crash test scores are poor, while US crash testing is being slow-walked so Motor Trend can give it an annual award and say it has not been crash tested in the US yet. Style over substance. Probably the same for this Gladiator (good movie). One problem is the better a vehicle is off road, the more it sucks on pavement. Maybe it will turn out to be more reliable than the Wrangler - buying the first model year is a gamble.
Jeff Ruebens see that’s your first issue is reading about “estimated” reliability. I’ve seen cars that get high reliability scores and always have issues. A lot of my family are mechanics and see the vehicles that need to be repaired and what years they are. Yes jeeps have reliability issues and so does every other car manufacturer. I don’t care if Honda and Toyota get high reliability scores because wit means nothing. When Honda engines were cracking or have had family with a civic that had 50,000 miles on it and engines blew or friends who work at Honda tell me the amount of transmissions they have to replace because they are not reliable or even with Toyota having a lot of issues with their hybrids and even electronics failing. I don’t follow estimated reliability crap I live in the world and what I experience and others I talk to such as people I know who work at dealerships that what I believe not what JD power says who in the U.S surveys people after 90 days unlike the UK where it after 2 years of actually owning the vehicle.
@@jeffruebens8355 : Sure I remember Consumer Report favored the Rav4 AWD over the Jeep Wrangler. Yeah that was a laugh. BTW, if you want to burn your money buy the Rav4.
It's the Swiss army knife of vehicles. Tow a boat? Convertible cruise down the coast? Off road shenanigans? Home Depot run? Take three people to lunch? Swiss Army knife. I really want one. Great review 👍😎
That’s a great way to look at the Gladiator. It’s a Wrangler and a truck. Lots of overlanders want this because the Wrangler has always had limited space.

Hi, I've seen several Gladiator launch event videos, but nobody seems to mention what to do with bits of roof (hard top and soft top), when you remove them. I'm not an off road or Jeep person, but I suppose I may want to get the convertible experience when off-roading, but as the weather changes or I get back on the highway I may want to put the roof back on. Roof panels (in case of the hard top) and that sliding rear plastic window (in case of the soft top) seem like they could take up a lot of space. I know there's a whole truck bed, but I don't think I should just throw them there with whatever cargo or recreational equipment I am carrying. Jeep made a box for screws, so perhaps they have a solution for pieces of roof as well?
You're outta luck. I had a Wrangler. Either stuff the bits inside where they'll get damaged/stolen, or leave them at home and freeze/get wet/etc. Still glad they gave the option, though I wish they would have made it look more properly proportioned.
Basically press/media launch reviews are completely rubbish, they force you to say good things but you guys in true savagegeese fashion managed to keep it real. Looking forward to the full review :)

It is so well paced and edited with these awesome drone shots and pans, looks so good and really gets this "Jeep Feel" across. You are telling a story as well as reviewing the car. Oh and the sound and music are fitted very nicely to the different scenes.
I appreciated your describing the people involved in the design. The personalisation of something like the Gladiator significantly increases its value - especially compared to cop-outs like the "new" Ranger. Clearly, this thing was created by people who give a shit and who want to make a product that will be truly appreciated by the people that GET it - not just bought and used like an appliance, as is the case with most modern vehicles. I had a similar mindset to yours, regarding FCA, until you personalised this truck for me. Hey! Welcome to my part of California! Glad you got a sunny day to film, they've been rare. As usual, great shots, sound, and editing, and the lack of BS is always a treat.
I might be wrong about this, (and probably am) but I think they should have also offered a straight-up two passenger, two door version with a full size cargo bed for those people who have serious off-road trucking business to take care of on a daily basis. In other words, a dedicated off-road work truck.
Damn goose, your quick drive vid just destroyed everyone elses normal vid. Nice work mark! And as for the gladiator, coming from a Tacoma owner, I love seeing all the competition in this segment. It really will have a positive affect as a whole on all trying to out do each other. Exciting times for the mid size truck seg!
OMG, your videos are awesome. Just the video quality alone is amazing but your reviews in general are the best. I think I want to trade my 2017 Ridgeline in thanks to you.
Indeed it would! Unfortunately though it will most likely be a 3000 plus dollar option, and will only be available on higher trim levels like the Rubicon. But we shall see right?
The only trouble, emissions regs have ruined diesels, they are just not as reliable as they were. I've always loved diesels but with all the crazy emissions systems and the failures that go with the complexity, took diesels off the map for me.
A regular Tacoma/Colorado/Ranger 4x4 will have difficulties with that trail (especially, if you look at the entire trail, not just the segment you highlighted). And the base versions will have no chance at all. Of course, the dedicated offroad versions of those trucks will indeed do this without too much trouble.
@@dsugioaga They're driving the Rubicon though. If you compare that to the TRD Pro or ZR2 they would all be able to manage that trail with no problem. Even the base versions could handle it with proper tires and skill. The Gladiator is a beast for sure but it's not like Jeep re-invented the off-road pickup truck here.
@Your Mums HITACHI Are you one of those people who post "hurr durr, my Civic can do that!" in Rubicon trail videos? It's always easy to judge offroad terrain from a video - when you're there, in person, it's much different. Besides, pickups suck offroad. Even the dedicated offroad versions are generally worse than dedicated offroad SUVs. @Rotchild: In general, I agree. That's what I wrote. Dedicated offroad pickups will get through this without much trouble. I also agree that skill has a great impact - but that's irrelevant for the evaluation of the offroad capabilities of a vehicle, because it's a variable that is solely based on the driver. The base Gladiator is more offroad-capable than a base Tacoma/Colorado/Ranger - in their respective offroad-trims the vehicles are probably closer together but I would assume the Rubicon still has a slight edge over the others. But of course that doesn't mean it's the better truck overall. But whatever, I don't really have a bone in this fight anyway, since I'm not interested in any of these trucks.
@Your Mums HITACHI That's a stretch. These trails are harder than they look on your screen. And I've seen Crosstrek reviews where the Crosstrek's X-Mode couldn't find traction, or couldn't use the engine's torque properly, to move forward over the rocks and/or up the inclines on trails like this. This is Forerunner/Raptor/Wrangler territory.
Finally, a Gladiator review I want to see...Not a media outlet who just puts someone with a pretty, or handsome face up....Or that guy who was so bougie he has to wear boot covers during the review because"it's sooo muddy...". Thank you SaveGeese!!!!
@6:49 "no pickup truck in this segment, Taco, Ranger, Colorado, there's not a truck that can do this". Hmm,...I think a Taco TRD Pro could negotiate that course, but, yeah, this truck is impressive. Great video, best one for the Gladiator on UA-cam.
That was my bad on my end. What the gladiator touts is “best in class, clearance, approach and departure angles. It also has the most armor underneath. The reason I prefer it to the Colorado is the airbags won’t deploy randomly while off roading and the taco while potentially more reliable. feels dated, gets worse Milage, tows less and honestly is less fun.
@@andyw_ Me, for one. It's disfigured and ill-proportioned from the B-pillar back. I like the idea, but the execution a bit wonky (breakover angle, anyone?) and the looks are horrid.
Want. They should SO do a wagon version with this same tray sized cargo space. Without 3rd row seats. That in a diesel would be my ultimate work wagon.
I enjoyed watching the beautiful landscape. Although this very nice truck is not for sale here in the Netherlands, it would be too expensive next to that it needs two parking spots, I watched the review to the end. I must say, I always do that since your reviews are the best and interesting until the end. Keep 'm coming!
I grew up on Asian brands and not a truck guy. My only experience with fca is a 2016 dodge journey I owned for 2 years. The pentastar v6 and little storage knooks were its only redeeming qualities. This truck has me very interested. Like you stated, coming from a regular car background interior noise is my only concern. But I think it's something I can live with for the capability and practicality of this truck.
Were you all operating out of the Hilton in Sacramento? I work down the street and on my way home last night I saw a convoy of Gladiators with Michigan plates. I saw a filthy one at the Shell on Arden.
Love your reviews. I have seen several reviews on the gladiator and yours is so to the point, that it makes me only want to believe yours. Not that I’ll ever buy a FCA Vehicle, but this is an all in one home run. Come on Toyota an FJ Tacoma, or a K10 Blazer Silverado, or a Bronco F100 Raptor.
Really enjoyed the premium scenery in this one. I'm by no means a Jeep guy but this looks interesting, mainly because of how capable it seems. Looking forward to the full review!
I know this is supposed to be a "Quick Review"... but this would have been a lot more helpful if you included a Jack Singapore vs Savagegeese mud wrestling segment. Other than that, excellent video. Bravo.
Goose sums it up admirably. Jeep knows what their customers want and gives it to them in spades. That's a recipe for success, assuming your business model is squared away and you're not an HMO that builds cars on the side, like some companies we can think of.
I bought a full loaded limited 4runner in 2018 and have taken it off road extensively and did so basically right away. Honestly these types of vehicles, wrangler, 4runner etc the a ONLY reason to buy them is if you do take them off-road otherwise you are paying all this money for a vehicle that has terrible on road performance AND terrible fuel economy
Wow I am completely surprised at how comfortable onroad this is. Another great video by you Savage. Any sign of funny behavior on the highway? Anyway love your video's and the comedy bits you insert with Toddd.
One question I need to ask. You mentioned the ride being "supple". Did you drive the Overland with the more street designed tires or the Rubicon with the more Off Road tires when driving on pavement?!? Just curious as I would be surprised if you were describing the Rubicon ride as supple. Also, I imagine the wind buffeting wouldn't be as bad if you opted for the less convertible friendly hardtop.
The part of the video that showed him climbing into the back what slightly cumbersome. I have the same issue with my 2012 Nissan Xterra rear door access due to the rear fender well & door design.
I ordered the Gladiator Launch Edition. Expected delivery late May. Now Jeep does a bate and switch. Concierge now say the Launch Edition will not be built for several months “after they get some inventory to their dealers. That is not at all what they advertised when they say “Be the first to own one of these legends”
I admire your production skills and I appreciate that you take the time to put so much into the organization, facts, and straight up video quality. Thats why I've been a subscriber for so long and get excited to see your videos. Keep it up I know I will be waiting #subscriberforlife
Ideal vehicle for farmers and tradespeople who work in the country. I don't think twice about driving a normal car on bush tracks, but honestly, that trail would be a tank and diff slapper for a normal car.
Exactly, and the point was just because I had a bias because of those cara, objectively it does not mean that they don't make some great vehicles when they put their hearts into it.
When you do a full review can you answer the following question please? The Wrangler has gotten a 1 star frontal crash rating. Adult protection is rated at 50% (gladiator will likely get the same rating do to similar front ends) FCA says that “testing protocols that apply exclusively to urban scenarios may not align with a vehicle that’s engineered to provide top performance under the most demanding conditions” - yet the Mercedes G Wagon has a 5 star rating? What is it about this vehicle that causes a low crash rating and is it because FCA is being cheap since the G wagon costs so much and they can afford better safety?
I've always wanted a Jeep Wrangler variant, but theyre just too expensive for my taste. For what it is, I dont understand how these sell so well, other than to teenage girls who get them as graduation gifts.
I’m always amazed when people complain about price with Jeeps. They’re a damn bargain for what it is. People want the world for $20k and they need to grow up and be realistic.
@@MarkPharaoh I think if you're using it for what its intended to be used for, which barely anybody does, then its a fair price. I said I'm surprised they sell well at this price because a base price of $30ish thousand dollars to be used as a daily driver getting 12mpg, a ride that will make your teeth fall out, and very limited cargo space, its no longer a good deal. I've been in the business of selling cars for about 6 months now, and I have had 7 people trying to trade their Wranglers back in within the first 3 months of ownership. They complain about not being able to afford the gas and needing something more comfortable. A lot of people buy them not realizing what they're getting. In high school I wanted one so bad because they looked cool, but thank god my dad talked me out of it. If you take it on trails and offroading pretty consistently, then its a good deal. Its those who buy them as a daily driver that its questionable for $30k. But people can do what they want with their money, that's none of my business. I would bet that a lot of people buy them as a status car, and Jeep relies on that.
Spot on used car dealerships are loaded with Jeeps lots of them are damn near brand new. People buy them because they look cool and can take the doors off. Then when they live with it they realize damn this big payment, sucks gas, and it rides like shit.
@@TheAdventureAuto I don't know what Wrangler package you are looking at but my 2018 Unlimited Sport get around 23 mpg and only dipped to 19 in really steep mountain roads in NC and SC. I feel 23 is a pretty solid mpg for a daily driver as long as you are not driving over an hour 1-way to work every day.
$30,000 in a old Wrangler. That would be one hell of a Jeep. I believe this one couldn’t touch the old one, and with $45,000, the old Jeep would be insane. Most of these new jeeps will probably never leave the road, maybe a little drive through the grass (I off roaded today).

Billy Hughes I agree. The Tacoma TRD Pro and the Colorado ZR2 wouldn’t have any trouble with that course.
That was my bad on my end. What the gladiator touts is “best in class, clearance, approach and departure angles. It also has the most armor underneath. The reason I prefer it to the Colorado is the airbags won’t deploy randomly while off roading and the taco while potentially more reliable. feels dated, gets worse Milage, tows less and honestly is less fun.
is there a single cab version? the quad cab looks weird
Only four doors are available. We shall see what happens in the future when it comes to a two-door variant.
Agreed. From the B-pillar back, it's oddly proportioned.
youd think with FCA giving jeep a majority of the budget itd look better.
I'm not a fan of FCA, but god damnit this is one of the coolest pickup trucks ever!
They make some of the coolest cars right now, period. Hellcat, Demon, Abarth, Pacifica and now the Gladiator
@@RotchildFrancoisJr Pacifica? lmao get outta here
@@lunisce I would agree but the Pacifica is actually not too bad now. They even make air suspension for it lol
Abarth?😂😂 lol I mean unless u want to be at the mechanic every day go ahead
@@lunisce Lol tell me it's not the coolest minivan on the market! 😂 Gotta be inclusive, it's not all about sports cars.
That Toddd ending cracks me up every time.
Getting a Rubicon Gladiator only to get high center due to the long wheelbase...
Needs a regular cab, the 4 door looks really weird.
The FCA Rep said “Best in class off-roading capability”- Not with that breakover angle! Too long of a wheelbase to make that claim.
So far you have the best review that I’ve seen. Very well spoken sir. 👍
us Americans: waaaaa I want a solid axle manual transmission pickup truck
Jeep:
us Americans: I hate it!
whos saying they hate it?
It does need to be a bit more simple lol but otherwise seems cool. Also needs a 2 door version
i really like it actually
@@andyw_ Me, for one. It's disfigured and ill-proportioned from the B-pillar back. I like the idea, but the execution a bit wonky (breakover angle, anyone?) and the looks are horrid.
I'm saying I hate it🖐️
Want. They should SO do a wagon version with this same tray sized cargo space. Without 3rd row seats. That in a diesel would be my ultimate work wagon.
Man SERIOUSLY, watching your reviews is like watching high budget Hollywood movies 😍 I hope one day, I'll be 50% as good as you... #respect
The 10 second Toddd action at the end of each video is my favorite part.
Your videos are on a whole nother level compared the everyone else!
for the first time Mark actually pulled out his phone to take a picture of a cow
Gotta keep his profile on Bovine Beauties.com active with pic uploads.
You give the best reviews. Thank you for making quality content.
Cant do Patreon but I can let those ads play. Great quality content.
Amazing job thank you for all the time put in to this review it's full of honesty and straight forward
"quick review" is still 15 mins of some of the highest production quality car vid on UA-cam. Geese is fucking crazy
Were you all operating out of the Hilton in Sacramento? I work down the street and on my way home last night I saw a convoy of Gladiators with Michigan plates. I saw a filthy one at the Shell on Arden.
I have been waiting for you to drive/film his jeep with your no bull shit approach. I wasn’t disappointed Thanks seems a great vehicle
As always, worth sitting through. Appreciate what your trying to do...
Bravo.
Thats only off camera
He is always the big spoon sadly
Very impressive video my friend. I like the way you described the truck and I could really see your honesty. Thank you for that!
Really loved that you took the Jeep truck off-roading for this video this is like a special review
And of course this is very detailed as well
Wow. What an incredibly well done review. I am very impressed.
Goose sums it up admirably. Jeep knows what their customers want and gives it to them in spades. That's a recipe for success, assuming your business model is squared away and you're not an HMO that builds cars on the side, like some companies we can think of.
will be very few percentage people use 60,000 dollar to do off road extensively, that is the fact
sun and moon yup. I didn’t want pin stripes on a 50 grand vehicle lol
"Blah blah blah"... How many people tracks their 60K sports car "extensively"?
I bought a full loaded limited 4runner in 2018 and have taken it off road extensively and did so basically right away. Honestly these types of vehicles, wrangler, 4runner etc the a ONLY reason to buy them is if you do take them off-road otherwise you are paying all this money for a vehicle that has terrible on road performance AND terrible fuel economy
I really want to see you review the new Ranger or do a comparison video!
What brand jacket are you wearing and where did you purchase it. Please and thank you.
As good as these reviews are, the outros have become my favorite part.
Wow, you really sold this thing! Suddenly It's on my list.
The coolest part of the bed is that you can bring hard doors and roof panels with you. If the weather changes, you’re not SOL.
I love the intros. The feels
Code brown! 😂 perfect
Gladiator versus ten-year-old Hummer h3t?
Great video as always! Keep doing what you're doing.
I know it wouldn't sell, but I wish there was a two door option. The four door dimensions look odd to me.
The part of the video that showed him climbing into the back what slightly cumbersome. I have the same issue with my 2012 Nissan Xterra rear door access due to the rear fender well & door design.
“A car that is soulless” *shows Chevy equinox*
Mike Fahy A car made for rental agencies
His distaste for the Equinox and GM in general runs strong
I ordered the Gladiator Launch Edition. Expected delivery late May. Now Jeep does a bate and switch. Concierge now say the Launch Edition will not be built for several months “after they get some inventory to their dealers. That is not at all what they advertised when they say “Be the first to own one of these legends”
I admire your production skills and I appreciate that you take the time to put so much into the organization, facts, and straight up video quality. Thats why I've been a subscriber for so long and get excited to see your videos. Keep it up I know I will be waiting #subscriberforlife
Great review as always Mark.
Ideal vehicle for farmers and tradespeople who work in the country. I don't think twice about driving a normal car on bush tracks, but honestly, that trail would be a tank and diff slapper for a normal car.
OK... this is actually cooler than I anticipated.
Nice job this is one of the few vehicles I knew nothing about before this vid
Great review! One of the best so far.
Musta been hard for savagegeese to not bash a FCA product when invited to their event lol
Not much to bash here, his monologue at the end went over cons that everyone already expected. Bad NVH, cramped interior in spots etc.
Everyone knows Mr Geese is a Mopar fan.
@@Armadurapersonal he literally goes over why he has hate bias towards Chrysler vehicles because of his childhood.
FCA makes some pretty solid vehicles now anyways.
The Adventure Mazda I enjoyed reading this comment. Spot on!
Where'd you get those Sally Jesse Raphael glasses? Do they come with the gladiator?
very well produced video. Love the jeep galdiator - good job mate.
$30,000 in a old Wrangler. That would be one hell of a Jeep. I believe this one couldn’t touch the old one, and with $45,000, the old Jeep would be insane. Most of these new jeeps will probably never leave the road, maybe a little drive through the grass (I off roaded today).
