    How do you feel about air restrictor devices for diaphragm strength?

      I think they help more with the exhalation. But pranayama is better for the inhalation.

    Could you please explain how a 26m FRC would prepare you for a 120m no-limit dive in terms of pressure?
    I can see how a RV dive to 26 would do that but not FRC.
    If we do the math: FRC to 26m = 7.2bar on full lungs = 60m roughly.
    RV to 26m = 14.4bar on full lungs = 130m roughly.

      Hay Wildor, there is no way for you to do those calculation without knowing my RV VC and FRC volumes, so your maths is off.
      Never the less, there is a greater pressure on the lungs and trachea during FRC, due to less blood shift and faster compression, so the maths wouldn't really apply even if your knew the variables.
      Having been to these depths I can confirm the the pressure on the lungs is greater on a FRC dive than a full lung dive to 120

      Yep, I agree with the second part of your reply. It's the blood shift that makes the difference.
      But wouldn't you say that FRC is by definition half lung (or close enough depending on your passive exhale)? So the actual volume of the FRC is irrelevant. Its the percentage of the total lung volume that counts towards experienced pressure. If FRC is aprox 50% of TLC then its the same for you and me. If its not aprox 50% then its not FRC.

      Now I see where you are mistaken. FRC or functional residual capacity is the volume the Lungs are when neutral, i.e with complete relaxation of the respiratory muscles. For almost everyone, this is less than half for the VC or Tlc. For me for example I have about 1.5l above my RV left while on FRC, yet my VC is just over 7l

    • @wildordinovo8115
      @wildordinovo8115 6 років тому

      So basically your FRC % of TLC seems to be a little over 40%. Which in terms of depth at full lungs is equivalent to over 70m. That plus packing plus blood shift translates to roughly your NLT dive.

      Again, it's not possible to do that math without knowing my RV, but anyway, I didn't do any maths when deciding on my training plan, maths very rarely transfers over into freediving. I knew how it felt to be below 100m already, so if i feel more compression on a FRC dive (with the same flexibility) then I know I can handle more than 100m, it's that simple.

    When you say FRC do you mean empty lung?

    • @freedivepassion9498
      @freedivepassion9498  6 років тому

      Ham Sandwich no, FRC means breathing out until your lungs are neutral, I have a video on FRC and RV dives, you should check it out

      FRC = FUNCTIONAL RESIDUAL CAPACITY
      The amount of air remaining in the lungs after a passive exhale
      half lung
