You ever see these lyrics ?
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

Truth …”just an artist with their voice and guitar, …”
    This is called talent.
So few ‘artists’ of today can hold a crowd with their talent alone … instead they rely on costume, visual/sound effects, dance, support musicians to carry them.
There was so much talent 50 years ago, but sadly it is very rare these days.

I am a singer/guitar player who performed this, and other songs in a duo sometime in the mid 80's in NSB, Florida at a Tex mex place. We finished a set and saw Neil Young sitting there eating, and listening, and applauding. He was in town to visit his mom who lived there and was sick. My duo partner insisted on going to Neil's table to tell him what fans we were and how much he influenced our music. I didn't want to bother him, but we did. Neil was the most kind, polite, and friendly person. He thanked us for the good music and tolerated us. His music is vast and beautiful, and he is still at it. A music legend, and really nice guy!

His Southern Man is an iconic song. It's "controversial" and a funny history to the song, being critical about Southerners. Then Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote Sweet Home Alabama giving Neil crap for being critical about the South. For younger people who don't know who Neil Young is, I'm glad when they discover him. Neil Young is one of the greatest singer songwriters who came out of the 60s-70s. He also rocks with a band he calls Crazy Horse. But Neil's most famous singing companions were Crosby Stills and Nash. They sang together so much that the band became known as Crosby Stills Nash and Young.
For Neil Young songs (more like OLD MAN), I recommend Needle and the Damage Done and Heart of Gold. But Neil has a deep and rich catalog. He is still making music btw.

Neil Young is another Canadian icon. The "Harvest" album was on our playlist for years in my youth. Check out "Man Needs a Maid" if you want something heartbreaking. The studio did a weird arrangement on the album, with Tubular Bells and a full orchestra, but there's a live version - possibly from the same performance as this one - where he plays the piano. "Helpless" is a song he did with Crosby, Still and Nash, that speaks directly to my heart, having grown up in Ontario myself. It's funny to think back to Neil's acoustic days, because they didn't last long. He did a lot of great stuff with his band Crazy Horse.

Now you understand why we (those that are older) wonder where the the "Singer-Songwriters" went. From a lot of your reaction videos I've watched, you seem to connect, to be touched, by the Singer-Song-writers of late 60s and 70s. Neil Young, Harry Chapin, Billy Joel, etc. are all from that era and all pull at the heart strings. They are the best singers, or the best songwriters, but they had a way of touching the heart and soul of those that heard them.
