I have this same problem with my '19 M3SR - Took it to Tesla, specifying the front left suspension was creaky, so they replaced two control arms *at the back(!)*. I'm tempted to just give up and DIY it now 😂
I love this kind of workshop shit 👌🏼
Would love to see more content like that 🔥
Very helpful thank you! I have a 2018 Model 3 (Dual-Motor/LR) with that horrible squeak (front passenger side) - will be going to Tesla in a few weeks for repair. Fingers crossed about the invoice...not under warranty anymore.
Update: Fixed! Both control arms replaced. Fortunate to get at-home service (not sure if that's an option in other countries), around $90 per control arm. Wheel alignment had not been compromised.
Kathleen, are you in US? I live in Seattle area. Was the $90 ea through Tesla or another company? Did this include labor?
How much did it cost?
More repair videos!
Nice to see Morgan again
Gonna watch this now, toilet break at work :)
Hopefully you've finished by now.
Same here 😂
Excellent video. Will definitely be doing this on my MS
I have this work to do on my own car. Thanks for the video.
I had some other problem with squeaking while the wheel was turning which Tesla resolved by lubricating the lower intermediate shaft. I'm not sure if it's a permanent fix. More videos like these Bjørn!
Tesla “fix” to get it past the warrant period

Great informative video on the suspension work. May I ask what they recommend for wheel alignment with what height of air suspension? I read best to have standard or low. Preserve shafts versus tyres. Could you also do a video on the camber rear adjustment options. Thanks again for this video.
this is normal for all heavy cars after some km/miles . i used too change al lot in the days as a bmw mechanic. so this is not a tesla problem, its a normal wear and tear.
YOu are my 8th favorite youtuber on You Tube!
So, what is the name of this part? Is this the lower control arm? That is mentioned often in Tesla discussion groups. Thanks!
Cool! How is the Leaf doing BTW? :)
With the weight of the battery it's not surprising the suspension components wear out, the suspension layout is very similar to the larger BMW ICE cars which here in Australia at least only last around 150 thousand km before needing to be rebuilt.
There is a german channel (zimmermann) where they even replace a 1 year old tesla y suspension because it just failed. Tesla used too cheap components with german autobahn the pressure to the suspension is in the long run too high.
@@Francis-yc9nc no it didnt fail
It is similiar to all premium cars (multilink/ double wishbone). They all can require replacement at 200 thousand km. Nothing out of the ordinary.
@@Francis-yc9nc yeh but tbf, roads here are very coarse and rough with a few exceptions (i.e. sunshine coast or gold coast motorway). Driving 120km/h here feels same as going 160km/h in germany....
150k is good. Most brands starts needing new bushings and balljoints around 100k km here or it wont pass the yearly inspection. Doens't matter what it says in the nose. Toyota, Tesla, bmw.... but ofcourse a heavy car like tesla will go through them more often.
Bjorn, what was the price of the repair with those 3rd party parts?
My ID.3 has the exact same problem - and it's the second time.
Regarding the bolt, I was told that the reason for the way it is installed is because the head is less likely to penetrate the battery in an accident compared to the other end with the nut...
Can anyone tell me what’s the parts used in this video please. I have the same issue
❤❤❤
How old X kilometers?
What year is it and what mileage is it at?
can you please advise on the parts replaced my car has same issues
Yes please I need the same thing doing, what’s the parts
Can you not press new rubber bushes / joints into the existing arms or do the refurbisher do that. Hopefully not just binned.
Thought the same, on many fossil cars the bush kit is available
I think you can press them out, but its cheaper to just buy new arms (unless you're converting to poly bushes).
This is happening to every car it does not matter if it is electric, but the build quality is different, and depends how many pot holes you hit. Now if the car is powerfull you will need better joints, then sometimes aftermarket ones could be better.
Usually first built control arm hold up way past 200 000km, every later aftermarket control arms are much worse and less durable. I replaced my aftetrmarket ones every year on the VW, now I went and bought the expensive shit at VW, original ones and so far they are holding up.
Very cool video, but the car is not that old.. if this is the trend with newer cars, we are in trouble..
The mechanic with a Lithuanian accent?
Det var problem på min Tesla 3 Model 2019 pref. byttet ovre nedre bære armer på 50.000 km Fra Tesla hører dere knirke lyd bare bestill service hos Tesla Deler som var original på bil produsert sør Korea. Mvh; Kelmendi
Warranty is spelt wrong big boss.
Thank you. Corrected now.
I have just went through same repair Tesla asking for this 2200 euros independent work shop 450 euros. Model S and X suspension is really weak point.
It is completely nornal for premium cars with multilink/double-wishbone. Except maybe for a Lexus 😅
Just get these bushings and have some fun with a hydraulic press:
Check out part numbers;
Reinhoch RH14-6026
Reinhoch RH14-6024
Teknorot TS-104 (balljoint type bushing)
Cost less than 10€/each except for the balljoint type bushing.
The balljoint type bushing also fits in the rear of at least the Model S.
If the main balljoint is gone, you need a new control arm...
How many km driven in the car?
Being an S it could be a few years old and out of warranty.
@@carsonj1 170000km 2017
@@martymar7465 170k is a little early, maybe, compared to some cars at least, but the repair was not too expensive.
At similar mileage a turbo VW with a DSG would be needing very serious maintenance or even be scrap-worthy. All the plastic engine and electrical components would be becoming fragile and resale would be in the toilet.
Meanwhile your car is still in its prime with what is really minor maintenance being a heavy car.
You’re talking like Tesla watching you and everything you say. 😏
Bad news amateur guessers bushings do not move when you turn the wheel ball joints on the other hand do move so I’ll give you a guess what is really making the noise ball joints or bushings too late you already guessed wrong
Mo Tesla mo problems
Tesla quality issues ...... 💩
Tesla wants to overcharge fpr parts & lanour
$400 Canadian for an alignment???? Whhhhhat?
It's a bad design!! ..you should be able to just change the rubber, you shouldn't have to change the whole arm... Bad for the planet bad & for yr wallet.. and if you could change just rubber I'm sure aftermarket guys would provide better quality product which will last longer.
You can, but most shops don't do it. Also the balljoint cannot be replaced.
@@rkan2 Yah .. understand about ball joint needs to be new.. it's good you can change just the rubbers.. thanks for the information 😁👌
Uh, that's not how it works... I guess you're not a mechanic.
@@bjornnyland You are also mistaken though, you can replace the control arm subframe bushings, the "balljoint-type" bushing and the shock absorber bushing from the arm. The balljoints cannot be replaced.
Check out part numbers;

@@rkan2 I guess its faster to buy a whole new assembly than have a mechanic replace the bushings in Norway. Labor cost is really high.
Garbage
Worn bushing doesn't wear out tire, bad alignment with aftermarket camber arms fix it. These guy replaced random parts .. squeak is from upper control arms. Not lower.. guarantee noise come back
You get A Car like this? No Money? No car Mechanic skills.??? This Car could make one commit suicide.. lot’s of Dealerships wants $200+ just to diagnose the problem.! It might not even be A Problem.. just A Loophole to get your Money.🫢
