I really feel like you do content on what you want to do, not what everyone else is doing.. that ends up being what I want to see a lot of times! Was really wondering about the eye tracking thing.. you did it again. Like you're readin' minds out here. Thank you for the info, Mr. F.

TOO LATE!! muhahaha! 🤠@@Farrister
@@Farrister oops sorry about that 🤣
When they asked where I learned about Tobii instead of saying star citizen, I put farrister the star cit content creator. Hope it helps you just in the slightest. Thanks for all you do with the ship tours. Keep on keepin on!
Good stuff! I ordered mine a couple of days ago and should be here soon! I got to try it out at CitCon during the Pyro demo and it was amazing
There's no substitute for being able to try it out!
Ive been really enjoying all of your good vibe videos fantastic work as always!
Thanks :)
Great review on the tobii! I've been very tempted to pick up a kit for a while now. It's been either this or setting up some sort of head tracking to my headphones.
If you're thinking about it, keep an eye out for the various discounts that run!
Worth noting that the Tobii is extremely fiddle when it comes to range and angle between your face and your screen. It’s worth reading up on before you buy.
That said, it should work for *most* desk setups. I think curved monitors are still not supported, as well.
I am reading conflicting user reports on this and many other aspects of the product.
I really enjoy your videos and I had seen the Tobi a little and thought that I would like a good breakdown. Bang! Here you are reading my dang mind. Noice. When I finish a few home improvements that I have ongoing I will certainly get a Tobi and if there is a code to help your channel I would love to help in some small way. Keep up the great content and in a month or two I will grab one. Thanks again.
Thanks for your kind words
Couldn‘t agree with you more … the Tobii Eyetracker is the single most impactful hardware add-on I purchased for SC … I am so convinced that for two people in my org, I offered a guarantee : „if you buy it and don‘t like it after a month, I will buy it off you for the same price you paid for it“ … of course, I did not have to buy them from my mates, because only 48 hours after installation, they were hooked.
And I am with you … I can‘t enjoy flying without the Eyetracker anymore … I also found out that the Farming Simulator 22 also natively supports the Tobii … different genre, but same benefits.
Love mine too!
Great to the point info as usual, thx.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, learned loads, now going to buy it!
Hope you enjoy it!
Really great review of the product!
Thank you!
I've ordered one :)
I really enjoyed my Tobii alot more once i massaged all the settings to slow and smooth. Feels super cool sometimes just walking around. If only the feet would turn with the head things would be perfect
I very much disagree. The whole advantage of Tobii is that you can run through a bunker checking left and right for enemies by turning your head. I don't want to be running into every side passage by doing that. That's what mouse movements are for
Foot tracker needed next? :D
@@Farrister well, guess that's what the flight pedals are, right? 😁
I can only recommend it as well. Convenient and you get to see so much more of the game, just by looking around! Also, quickly switching the targets is a big boon. Sidenote: it also works with other games :D
The tldr of my video :D
@@Farrister yeah, I am good at that :D
I've been using a Tobii for a while. My .02 aUEC:
- The Tobii was easy to set up, but finicky for me inside Star Citizen. Particularly frustrating was when my whole screen view shifted when trying to look at/interact with MFDs. To get around this, I turned off eye tracking except for targeting during ship combat, and I'm very happy with the result.
- Some ships can get extra rotation out of their guns when using a manual gimbal and a Tobii. The Reliant's wingtip gimbals/turrets, for example. It's not as practical as it sounds, because some guns have the wider rotation arc and some don't. So you'll have part of your armaments shooting sideways, but others will be shooting forward uselessly.
- I like the very natural feel of head tracking in FPS mode, even in combat. This is purely a personal preference, but I absolutely recommend trying it if you have a Tobii.
Thanks for sharing your notes!
I got TrackIR works great to!
But you need to connect it to your headset and if you have an wireless headset it is now wired.
Both are expensive, but i think Tobii is easy to find at local retail as well as online.
I used TrackIR before switching to Tobii, never looked back!
Currently setup on a 55inch TV mounted on my desk, found making the display position lines a little smaller helps
Well, you got more inches than me...
Even though i did eventually went ahead with buying 2 sticks from VKB, I have considered tobii Eye Tracker but not pulled the trigger on it yet, videos like this do help to though, as I'd mainly use it for Star Citizen, perhaps warthunder.
I didn't get around to trying in War Thunder yet
I REALLY wish they could integrate another camera to support FoIP or figure out how to use the Tobi 5 itself. Apparently in its current state, it can’t pull double duty
:(
I just got my Tobii yesterday. The default settings were a bit much so I'm still trying to dial it in but man what a difference it makes in space combat
Such a difference!
I keep saying I’m holding out for VR but this device keeps seeming more and more interesting to me. I’m happy that the devs have given us a bunch of ways to upgrade how we play.
I'll win you over one of these days!
Yep, I've thought the same, as I have a 5K res 120hz VR headset that doesn't get enough use. But after mulling it over for weeks, and seeing a 20% discount because of the Black sale, I finally caved in.
I reckon VR support is 10 years off still, in SC.
The default settings for Tobii sensitivity is way way to high. I would recommend would recommend to lower the sensibility to 1 so that it's a 1:1 to your head movement
Oh I didn't want 1:1, otherwise I'd not be able to actually see the screen when I turned my head!
If anyone is wondering, I use my Tobii along with my Samsung G9 with absolutely zero issues. It never fails to work perfectly.
Good to know!
Nice video, i also bought a tobii but i find all the settings rather confusing. A deeper dive into the settings within SC would be cool.
Noted!
I just got mine yesterday. It is in fact a game changer. It feels very natural too. It’s the closest to VR you can get without VR. Paired with dual VKB’s . Make the game so much immersive. I have a high end 27 in monitor. I’m saving up for a LG 34 UW. Then my setup will be close to completion. I’m glad I bought the track first before the monitor.
I think you mean close to completion... for now...
I purchased a Tobii and love it for Star Citizen. I do have to say that your previous use of the Tobii is what pushed me towards the purchase, and I thank you for that! This video just cements what you have previously stated, and I agree with your consensus.
Thank you, that's kind of you to say :)
I'm also using a 32" curved monitor and the Tobii just works fine. I only have some light issues when the sun is shining directly into my room from the side - at least I have the feeling that there might be some interferences. But now issues when it's dark.
Same here, it's mounded under my Samsung Odyssey G7 and works perfect.
Curvy club
I looked at it. But it does not support 60 inches tv. The day they find a way to make it work. I will definitely one. For now i use TrackIR work just fine.
I'd love to use Tobii, but my setup is outside the maximum distance it can be set up from the screen. Track IR with the pro clip works almost as good though!
I have a 43 inch screen and I have a bracket stand that is in front of monitor on the desk so the distance is within their recomened distance and works fine.
Good summary. Any thoughts on how well it works with glasses?
I can't speak from experience, but I've heard others praise it
Great video mate. Just a quick question that I haven't seen addressed anywhere. Can you just use your eyes to look around and move the in-game head? For example if you have a neck issue in RL can you just use your eyes to look up and down etc?
Thanks mate.
Yes you can!
@@Farrister thank you mate!
You probably would want to adjust the sensitivity to get to the perfect setup for you … also, you can adjust how much movement is triggered by head- vs. eyemovement.
I have it set up to use eye-tracking to look around the cockpit, while head-tracking is used for „big movements“ … in you case, you may benefit from it being set up the other way around.
Any suggestions on how to smooth out the experience? I've been using my Tobii for a couple days now and it feels incredibly jittery. Your videos are incredibly smooth, which is what I'd like. I'm a mouse/keyboard person so I'm always glancing down at the keyboard and its really throwing me for a loop.
I turned off eye tracking for movement and I just use eyes for targeting. That solved the issue of glances moving the screen for me. (Not sure about the smoothness piece, though.)
It might simply be because I'm sat further back from the screen - I haven't tweaked any of the settings
As a side note, the eye tracking can be a bit wonky if you wear glasses. That said, I didn't care much for the eye tracking anyway. I mostly use the head tracking and that's worked fine. But worth noting if you wear glasses, you might want to buy from a place with a return policy just in case it doesn't work.
Alas I'm not yet a glasses wearer so can't really comment!
I bought the Tobii eye tracker and will say this. It is awesome for flight, but I have it disabled for fps. I didn't have the same experience of setting it up in star citizen, that was resolved by copying another u tubers setup. IT will change your experience in star citizen and will give you the ability to fully feel the scope of this game. I will say you will have to disable it for simple things like taking a drink of booze because it will make things flutter, cup and head are not a great combo. This is one of those things you ask yourself, can I afford this and save for it. I admit that I was impulsive on buying it, but I don't Reget it. I can't say that about other things,...... ships. Hope this helps, and give Farrister props. side note. Using it on much large screen than Farrister is using..... emersion baby, but it still works....... If you can, buy it.
Great notes!
Wished I had the money to buy such device. For now, Im "stuck" using opentrack with Head Tracking using my webcam. It works well but head tracking isnt optimal since you gotta unnaturally move your head to see around and sometimes, its just plain more efficient to use "free look" with your mouse.
Great, i was waiting for prices to go down. First citizencon, now you...
haha :D
*Looks at bingo card* “Damett, this card doesn’t have ‘immersion’ on it!” 😂
lol
I like the idea of eye tracking but I hope VR becomes available soon as I already have the headset.
I always struggled with VR, gives me a headache :(
VR is usually the last thing to be implemented in a game (unless it's a bespoke VR title, obviously). I would not expect it to be supported in Star Citizen for a _while_ yet.
been thinking about it for a while , now i am sure its the thing i need next . thanks for the heads up😎
edit: bought it 😳, i'll just have to justify it later 🤣
Hope you enjoy!!!
Wait .. feet? 😮 Do you use pedals in SC? Would love a video on your full hardware setup some day. 😊
I do! There was one I did from a couple of years back: ua-cam.com/video/lHgTCQ7a7kk/v-deo.html
I use a app on my phone that works flawlessly
I own the trackIR and the Tobii, I prefer the trackir because it is 100% reliable in PVP not 95% like the Tobii
I want one ! But I’m on a 55” screen.
If you're playing Star Citizen on 55", you're living the dream!
Are you able to steer the ship with it?
You know, I've never tried lol
Maybe some day. It’s very expensive in my country with tax 😢
It is expensive, I'll agree there - lots of premium hardware is though :(
@@Farrister i managed to find a kit made by a local dude for a fraction cost of the tobii. Of course it’s not precise like tobii but it works. It’s a Sony ps3 camera modified. Open source software and 3 dots set for a hat. Around 35$ 😅
FILTHY SHILL!
(Honestly, got me kind of curious, might get one after a paycheck or two.)
lol thanks Ogi
Until Tobii 6 with foip I will consider it.
:O is that a thing?
My older Tobii, it's broke now, would display inaccuracy at the extreme left and right on my 21.9 aspect ratio, 34" ASUS monitor 🙄
I play SC on a 55-inch TV so I guess it's not an option for me.
Wow, way to make me feel like I don't have enough inches... :D
I need to say, that i find Tobii a bit too over the price. Even now on Black Friday. I use "Opentrack" and my webcam. Surely you dont have the eye tracking, but as I find; Headtracking is the more important thing. I had the Tobii to test it. And I need to say: The free Opentrack Software and my 50$ Webcam (a cheaper one would work also fine) do pretty much the same job without really notable differences. You even could use your Smartphone for this. Only difference I really notice, is that I saved around 200$ with the opentrack software and my webcam :D Which I now can put into Star Citizen for a new ship xD For Eye Tracking Tobii is for sure the best solution. But if someone just wants the head tracking thing, which is more than good enough for SC (at least for me) Tobii is a pretty... How to say it politely?... Pretty much overpriced solution.
Each to their own, I suppose! I'm very happy with mine :)
@@Farrister Thats for sure. For me personally it is not worth to pay 250$ to have eye tracking. As I had the Tobii to test, I even turned off the head movement for eyetracking, because i found it pretty... unnatural :D It just felt weird that my head moved ingame if I look to a specific corner of the Screen. But also that is, i assume, a personal preference thing :) But at least you talked a bit more about the functions and didnt just said "hey go buy it, its great", like 80% of other colab partners :)
Wish this worked for DayZ.
My Tobii 5 kicked the bucket after less then 2 years. Tobii refused to fix it as it's warranty was expired, which is not even true, as everything sold inside the EU, by law, includes 2 year warranty. Fortunately Amazon took over and refunded me in full, bypassing the asinine Tobii client service.
I'm really hesitant to get a new one, especially now that the price has increased to hefty 250€, given the lack of serious assistance and reliability, despite I admit I really like the the convenience of not wearing a headset. My Track IR 3 still works fine after 10Y+ and I'll probably stick to it until it dies.
As much as I support CIG and Star Citizen.... if you have the disposable income, you don't have a head/eyetracker, and you're thinking about dropping another $300 on yet another jpeg... don't. Get this thing instead, for all the reasons explained in the video, it's much better value for your money (full disclaimer, I'm a long term backer, concierge etc. but now squarely in the no cash till Pyro camp!)
I really think so too. Always surprised to hear people talking about expensive hardware, but then spending 4 figures on virtual space ships!
$700.. jesus. The Track IR is only like $350.
Picked one up new from Tobii for $258. 🤷🏻♂️
I genuinely believe you endorse the product by your own volition, the following is not meant to blame you for anything.
Its just that sponsored content that is a real honest review is almost unheard off, highly unusual. Even in the best case one could suspect bias, even if only subcontious.
In the worst case its just a straight up promotion that claims to be a review, which we sadly see every day. Again, not saying this is the case here at all.
If anything this is a questionable move on tobii's part, they should have just payed for a normal promotion in an unrelated video.
But the way they went about it does not sit completely well with me, despite the fact that i believe you are telling us your honest opinion.
That's fair enough, it's why the disclosure is important to me. I'm really proud to work with Tobii, and I think they really care about their product, and supporting smaller creators too.
Dammit. Doesn't support No Man's Sky or Starfield. Or even Skyrim or Fallout 4.
:(
Cool but to much black mirror for my taste.
what its not watching you when you sleep lol
Haha "uncanny valley"?
Hello, I apologize if I hurt your feelings. But we know how good Tobii is. WE NEED A VIDEO THAT SHOW INPUT AND SETTING NUMBERS. SETUP IN STAR CITIZEN DOES NOT ALWAY WORK
Avenger one did a similar video with settings
Didn't hurt my feelings :) I use all the default settings for it, for my setup it works great!
@@Farristerwow, I set eye tracking zero, just head tracking. I can hardly believe you actually play with those violent screen moves that come with high eye tracking.
@blackopera please don’t scream. It’s impolite
It's simply too expensive for what it is.
It's certainly expensive, but a lot of premium hardware is. And we're talking about a game where people pay a fortune for virtual space ships :D
Vr or nothing
Vr sucks lol nothing beats a physical setup
Or something else?
Track IR is MUCH better. Don’t waste your time on that garbage.
That is the opposite of what everyone says. From what I’ve heard track ir hadn’t gotten an update in like five years and requires you to wear something on your head. How is that better?
My personal experience is opposite. I moved from TrackIR to Tobii, it's far more convenient, and doesn't go mad when the sun is out, which is a major problem I had with my TrackIR.
