The song is about the business behind war, and how privileged politicians start them, but expect the poor to fight them, Black Sabbath made the same point in there hit "War Pigs"
This group is so musically talented. It isn't often that a group can pull off music that has 3 distinctly different parts that work well together. It's no wonder that this won a Grammy due to it's uniqueness. Thanks for reviewing it.
For this song, "B.Y.O.B." stands for "bring your own bombs." As the music alternates between aggressive and melodic, the video alternates between scenes of soldiers and a party at a nightclub. I don't know whether it was intended, but this is how I interpret the song and video: The Iraq War ("dancing in the desert") was fought under false pretenses ("you feed us lies") by the 1% of the American population that serves voluntarily in our military. The government borrowed money ("breaking into Fort Knox") rather than raising taxes to pay for the war. The rest of Americans were barely affected. Meanwhile, on at least one occasion the President encouraged Americans to continue shopping ("everybody's going to the party, have a real good time" and the word "buy" flashing). This sort of apathy toward needless debt contributed to the global economic crash in 2008.
Any analysis of this song is incomplete without referencing how every middle east war for the last four decades has been at the behest of Israel. "Moses' dry mouth". At the time it wasn't true, but today roughly 44% of the Biden admin is jewish. This includes several key cabinet positions such as CIA director, FBI director, Homeland Security Director and head of the Justice Department. Looking forward to a draft being instated to defend The Occupation State of Israel from the Palestinian people rightfully defending their homes .
Great analysis. Soad were woke before woke was a bad word. And sadly it has been co-opted to push political agendas. We should all be woke to the hypocrisy, from both sides of our corrupt and ineffective political system. The founding fathers are rolling over in their Graves. FDR warned of the military industrial complex. We didn't listen
I attribute the party to being more about the way we treated the war at home. So many people thought about the war so positively. I don't have the right words for it exactly, but it's kind of sickening the way the war and the destruction of so many lives was sold to us. I'm not sure the debt plays into it much, to be honest.
I agree 100% that Abigail is a better song overall, but in my personal opinion I feel Sleepless Nights is a better song for a first introduction to the band.@@FuckUA-camAndGoogle
Admitting the chorus is you favorite part plays right into what SOAD wanted with the composition of the song. They knew putting a more pop sounding chorus would hook would catch the indoctrinated and by listening to the song more, you would actually hear what they are truly saying. Geniuses.
i would recommend "deer dance" by system of a down... i think you two will like this one more than chop suey. i would also check out "sugar", "spider", forest" and "violent pornography" all four are also by system of a down. some of these may not have music videos, but probably have lyrics video be it official or fan made.
This is one of the most unique groups you will ever hear. Everything they do is political but they do it in a way that it doesn't sound political it just sounds like a really kick ass song. For instance this entire song is about sending the poorest and youngest among us to fight for our freedom. But also the lead singer is a classically trained opera singer from some ivy league school, can't remember which. But his experience there is what inspired him to make these crazy political tunes and they just took off.
Black Sabbath War Pigs doesn't exist I guess, I will say that the messaging and lyricism is certainly dumbed down as time has gone on though, with This is America being by far the dumbest of the three, lyrically, and musically for that matter.
If you look closely to the world history, this song could have been released a thousand years ago and still be relevant today, just like Land of Confusion by Genesis. It doesn't matter if you like the artistry of the song or not, what matters is that they are telling the truth. Why don't the politicians fight the war they start and why do the young generations ( who want to live in peace, I believe) have to be killing each other raising more and more hate. They really did hit the nail on the head with this song.
Thoroughly enjoying the musical growth. A vicariously fun experience to witness. Music appreciation rivaling artistic expression speaks volumes. Diversity creating community - I like that \m/ Nice reaction y'all 🖒🖒
Presidents (More like Kings and Generals) used to attend wars. It changed the moment they realized that it's best to double the money by financing both sides, with the lower class killing each other, all the while sitting in a far away temple and watching it unfold. As it unfolds you, of course, have to invest into the ressources either side has (This requires global banking and global share trading), so when the side wins that you bought into, you can make even more money with that. The moment wars weren't a nessecity to save and secure your people or to save food and needed supplies, but a fun activity for the rich to get richer. It's also useful to get rid of unwanted (ie not of importance for or unwilling to join the global market o) people. Not to mention that, especially in today digitlized world, by creating wars by financing oppositions, you can distract people to apply laws in the background that secure your wealth and to keep a boot on the regular folks. War is a money laundering scheme with elites winning and everyone else losing. Every. Single. Time.
First time I heard these guys, I was truly like 'who are these clowns?' Then they grew on me greatly as I heard their other stuff. Now I realize they did great work carrying on the metal torch and kept it from dying.
Bring Your Own Brain , stand up to the Politicians who send the people (poor) to do the fighting for them on a Decision that doesn't effect their personal life , The people at the Party having a Good Time are the ones who think the government has control on the situation But !!! Bring Your Own Brain B.Y.O.B.
If SOAD weren't left wing, you would be right, but the people at the party are actually supposed to be ignorant everyday civilians. Hence, "victorious Victoria's cry, brand new spanking deals!" Thats also the messaging of the people wearing the video masks, mindless drones under control of the elites.
Back in the day our President did fight in war, even a few recent ones did. It seems recently that we have been voting in the unqualified. Honest question what was Obama’s experience? Clinton at least was an established lawyer and governor.
@@SilverEye91maybe u should go to a therapist I sense some underlining anger. If memory serves Bush was a a pilot in the reserve, governor, and ran some high value corporation/business. Then u have Trump ego took a million and turned it into billions then Obama.....

There is nothing comedic about this song, and I don't see what part of it can be construed as pop / rock. It's a thrash song about war, and the agents of war, and people being too fucking stupid to recognize it. Ancient roman law: Give them bread and entertainment and they'll just sleepwalk.
The song is about the business behind war, and how privileged politicians start them, but expect the poor to fight them, Black Sabbath made the same point in there hit "War Pigs"
thanks for the info OZZY.
Funny that SOAD covered a Black Sabbath song, too. They are highly inspired by Black Sabbath & White Zombie!!
My thoughts exactly this is a perfect accompaniment to the message of War Pigs. by Sabbath
This was more of a protest against the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
”Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?”
Line really tells the story of this song
29 presidents have fought or served stateside in wars

Faith No More and Mr. Bungle come to mind as both being able to do that, which are 2 bands that heavily influenced NuMetal and bands like S.O.A.D.
Also Twelve Foot Ninja. Their “Coming For You” and One Hand Killing” are genre bending!
This song is so relevant with what’s going on in the world right now
Can u say a time when it wasnt relevant?
Always do lyrics for System of A down, Eminem and Rage Against the Machine. Every song is a message
Exactly. Those are 3 acts who will always have a message to say

"Join the army! We have good scholarships!"
It all makes sense.
Lonely Day is such a beautiful song about Suicide and Depression and getting through each day
This was written about the Iraq war - "Shock and Awe" was the plan they said and this song embodies that pretty well.
The message is spot on! The 1% party and get more wealth while our youth fight and die in needles wars.
This was my wake-up music for anything. Retired military 🍺
Check out their songs "The Prison Song" and "BOOM!"
I think Phil and Sam are ready for "King Diamond - Sleepless Nights - Live at The Fillmore (OFFICIAL)". Who agrees?
Nobody is truly ready for King Diamond 😂
How about you pick a better song than Sleepless Nights, like Abigail.

This song released in March of 2005. This song was very popular during my 2005 iraq deployment which I was there during the summer months.
