    The big question, is the Shelby GT350 actually reliable? The flat plane crank Voodoo V8 found in the GT350 has been met with some scattered issues that have been vastly magnified by the internet and word of mouth. It is true that some owners experience everything from oil consumption to needing replacement engines, but this is a truly special and high strung engine, revving to 8250 rpm while producing 526HP purely naturally aspirated. How severe are some of these issues? How widespread? Should you be worried? What should you do when you own one of these cars? Matt and I talk about some of the problems and how serious they are, what you should do, why we have extended warranties and some real world experience. Overall, none of the perceived and/or potential issues stopped either of us from buying a GT350R and thoroughly enjoying them!

      This is a oil sucker……from 2016 to 2019 lots a people had a engine replaced on this cars and they did not solve the problems as I know of,maybe that’s why Ford discontinued this model,lots of this car for sale out there now,also I heard the GT is well made quicker and $25k less.

    • @FlipFlab
      @FlipFlab 2 роки тому +1

      @@jnagime well the GT’s stock definitely are not quicker, but at the end of the day this car is for driving enthusiasts, not people who are chasing top track times. Though it does do very admirably on tracks. Much better than even PP2 GT’s. Pretty much any research would back that up. Kinda weird to see people still try to knock this car. It’s gonna go down as probably the greatest of the modern American V8’s.

      Exactly, people under value maintenance, and over value car brands. I hear all the time how Japanese cars are so reliable, and American cars are crap. But our Explorer is almost 5 years old with no issues, and I know multiple subaru and Nissan owners who are having issues with vehicles that are newer that ours.

      One needs to do homework on a vehicle....I own one and the only problem I encountered was the IMRC on my 2016.....corrected that with a 2018+ intake manifold.......They're great cars.....

      @@thomasrouh2258I’m looking at a 2016, what is the IMRC?

    • @thomasrouh2258
      @thomasrouh2258 5 місяців тому

      @@colemanlyttle8420 IMRC...Intake manifold runner control....It's an internal flap or door inside the air shaft where fuel meets air at the combustion chamber. One on each side of the intake manifold inside....It's commanded by the computer tune run by actuators on the very back of the intake manifold. These IMRCs are needed with naturally aspirated Coyotes. They can be locked open and deleted when running forced induction. 15 -17 naturally aspirated GT manifolds had a problem which was addressed by Ford 2018 +....These flaps start getting dirty after 10,000 miles without an oil catch can where the PCV hose is. These Coyotes are built with flat plane crankshafts so the can handle 8000 rpms all day long. Under 3000 rpms the IMRCs give low end torque which is needed for everyday driving unless you plan to track the car only and mash the pedal to the floor. My advice is to plan on an intake manifold swap and go with a 2018+ intake manifold and a VMP style harness to run them. You'll love the engine response. The swap with tune and harness will be under $1000 and well worth it.....Good luck and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.....I just did a 2016 GT and it is awesome.....

    As a coyote owner, who always wanted to eventually upgrade to a GT350, I used to be a doubter about the rumors & concerns about the reliability of the GT350. However at this point, now that I can afford a used GT350, I can't safely feel comfortable jumping into a 350. I have never seen soo many "buyback," "rebranded" or "manufacturer recall" titles as I have with the GT350. The only other car I've seen as many with were Hellcats. Not to mention if they dont have those terms attached to their titles, they have more than 2 owners in a short amount of time. That tells me something, and most of the 1 owner, clean cars have very low mileage, where maybe its too early in its ownership to have issues. It sucks. The GT350 is an amazing piece of machinery, but I think there's a reason Ford moved on from it in a short matter of time.

High revving engines consume oil and that’s understandable. I always start it up and let it get to operating temp before I get wild in it. I’m sure I will have problems with it in the future like any other car but that is just part of it. Nothing last forever. The car is a dream come true to me!!

    I think Adam LZ’s GT350 caught fire because of that oil filter, even after going to the dealership for fixing (it happened twice to him on the track, but the second time it burned to the ground)

    First thing I do as I pull in the garage after a drive. Pop the hood and let it cool and remember to check oil each and every time I drive it. Smartest thing you can do besides changing the garbage motorcraft oil for something better. I choose Amsoil, which was done exactly at 1000 miles. I don't think I ever drove the car without a smile on my face yet.

  • @KB-bh9hp
    @KB-bh9hp 3 роки тому +1

    I wouldn't be worried, there will always be a few people with horror stories, but most modern cars are very reliable. I remember when we bought our 2017 explorer, and someone on a forum was talking about engine issues. That might scare some people, but we're talking about one, or a few cases of bad experiences out of thousands, if not millions of cars. Like in the case of my car, they built like 1.5 million 5th gen explorers, and overall, they have a pretty solid reputation for reliability.

    My experience so far with a local shop that works on these is that the engines break all the damned time. The Ford dealership had a GT350 with a broken valve spring and just 24 miles on the odometer. I watched a GT350 with just under 1,000 mi on it blow its starter while on the dyno. It just wouldn't start and had to be towed to the dealership. There are youtubers who have lost their engines with just a few thousand miles on them. It's a shame because they're nice cars. I think the Mach1 will be the better buy.

    Break in period for these engines are critical. If done correctly you’ll be fine. Also, engine oil from factory comes with an additive and a lot of guys are getting oil changes to early to remove “metal shavings”. Don’t go over 4K RPM and seat the rings properly, then get oil change after 6 months. That’s what I did and I have almost zero oil consumption.
