A v8 would have been nice, but ford wanted to have a nice taper in the back for the “flying buttcheeks”. Ford removing 2 cylinders to get a nice taper for the ford gt. reminds me of women back in the day removing 2 ribs to get that nice tapered hourglass body.
The Gt is an endurance racer. The extra weight and fuel the v8 requires would have slowed it down. Its a better race car with the v6 which is what they built it for, but it would probably be a much more engaging road car with a v8.
Matt, watching you drive this car through the twisties Never gets old. This is my third time reviewing this video and the Second Gear, High Reving Action through the twisties is second to none..... It is truly "All World" GOOD!!!
Matt’s first review of the gt350r is probably my personal most watched UA-cam video ever. Love that he did an “exit review” on what seems to be a special car.
It is a pure pleasure to see these cars build a legacy. The fact that the R is not mass produced makes them desirable and the privelege of driving one is something you cannot replace. Personally one of the beat american cars for the track. Naturally aspirated and that noise is spectacular up here in canada there's only a few and you know it's an R before you even see because of that noise. I would have loved to see them run a single model year of the heritage gt40 with that voodoo motor not a turbid v6
Someone in my area has one of these and I can hear it coming from miles away. Epic. If only I could afford one, I would take one in an instant. Great review Matt. Thank you for the honest reviews and the really entertaining podcast. Cheers.
The shelby gt350r is the best muscle car ever made for me. The vodoo v8 and the sound ut makes, the 6 speed manual, flatplane crank naturally aspirated engine, carbon fibre wheels and spoiler is all that anyone can wish for.
I have G3312 . Drove this car once. I went from never owning an American car for the first 20 years of my driving life to selling two bmw's including an e92 m3 to get this car. It's truly epic
I recently bought a 2020 GT350R in this exact specification and had the pleasure of getting it out on track last month. What Matt says here about it being a "momentum car" was really brought home to me on the track. It turns in so nicely and with the track camber settings, carries a surprising amount of speed through corners. This thing does 100mph in 3rd, so there were stretches I was able to take flat where most other cars would have to shift. A bystander videoing the event came up to me after and told me the GT350 was the best sounding car there. I'll take that :)
That sound in loud mode!!! Although, in quiet mode it sounds like an Honda/Acura S2000 engine... It does not sound like a V8 at all, more like a high revving 4-cylinder. Especially the snarl.
As you can see, I was able to acquire a 2020 GT350 in California in early 2021 and had it shipped to Shelby American where it became a GT350 SE, one of only 100 on the planet ... And I love the car because it forces one to become a better driver. It demands your attention... no cell phones in hand anyway, and with this baby it goes on silent mode lol. Can't hear it anyway lol...

This is my favorite modern car. I'd take a 2016 GT350 over a 2020 GT500. 11 times out of 10. If straight line bullshit is your thing, send it to Fathouse Fabrications and blow away that purple Viper you had on "Sorted" lol. The car just needs real longtubes instead of the garbage Tri-Y stock stuff. Makes it sound 100x better. But you nailed it on the head with the trans. The MT82 is the sole reason I will never buy a GT, but would kill for a Shelby. The GT350 is the 911 GT3. And the GT350R is the GT3 RS. I dig it.
5th Camaro owner here with a manual gearbox and 7k redline moderately modded with 500whp - I'd trade it in a heartbeat if I could locate a 350R in the right pricing zip code. The $20k difference for similar track performance between the bromaro and the mustang but I do get "it". Visceral Voodoo banshee screaming to 8K RPM and driving experience are certainly worth proper consideration. Great presentation and will note the effort to get the tasteful drive by shots and as usual very (pardon the pun) sound audio work Matt. Your passion for the car comes through the camera and goddamit I want one!

I owned a 2016 350 Tech Pack from new and daily drove it for almost 2 years, putting on 27k miles before I sold it. I came into it from an E92 M3 with over 100k miles, and ultimately the thing that made me sell it was the perceived lack of build quality, or that Ford sold the car without figuring out some issues first. For example, in those 27k miles I had the AC compressor go out *3* different times, and I had the exhaust literally rattle itself apart causing some exhaust clamps to completely fall off the car, only to be told by the dealer that it's the owner's responsibility to retorque *all* bolts underneath the car every 10k miles. "It's a racecar for the road bro" - Service Advisor. The car also drank oil unlike any car I've owned, and I'm a longtime BMW guy lol. Additionally, being a 2016 tech pack car, it would overheat in the canyons after about 20 minutes, or after exactly 6 laps at Laguna Seca, which was incredibly infuriating as Ford ultimately fixed these issues the next model year, and offered no support to 2016 tech pack cars. Aside from that, getting the car serviced at Ford for warranty work was a complete joke. I needed to have an oil change done while it was getting the AC replaced for the second time, and had an SA try to convince me to get the basic conventional oil change package to save myself like $40 compared to the spec full synthetic Motorcraft oil that the car requires. TLDR: Ford made an extremely competent car with little regard to ownership experience and longterm build quality
The GT350 guys on the forums are recommending buying at least a 2019 model year 350/350R. Problem is finding a 350R that’s 2019 or newer that doesn’t have BS markup.
Early cars are fine at this point - if they haven't had any issues, they will go for a long time. I sold my 16R with 13k miles, didn't use an abnormal amount of oil (maybe .5 between changes). Find one with good records and have it inspected.
I’m confused on which model years are the best to get. There’s a lot of different opinions going around. If I want to track the GT350 pretty often, is it worth getting the upgraded engine in the 2019 and 2020? The earlier cars are going for a big discount so it’s a hard decision.
So this mustang was the first model to be sold in RHD in the UK. Unfortunately no official RHD Shelby models were sold over here, which was really disappointing. That sound of that voodoo flat plane, even on video, sounds amazing!

A version of that motor is what the Ford GT should have had.
a supercharged version
It should have had this or the gt500 motor
It wouldn’t fit.
GT500 is amazing, but I will always be in love with a GT350.

Really? I was on the GT350 forums and the guys there seem to be recommending 2019 and up Model years.
BINGO.
This car is so intense! Definitely the mustang to get if you have the money
Yup, one of the great all time engines, and the shifter is superb too. We’ll miss cars like this ...

Not true, less than 1% of all 350s built have issues. I’ve seen failures even on 2020 models
I’m confused on which model years are the best to get. There’s a lot of different opinions going around. If I want to track the GT350 pretty often, is it worth getting the upgraded engine in the 2019 and 2020?
The earlier cars are going for a big discount so it’s a hard decision.
I bought my 2019 two years ago zero problems at MSRP no waiting list.
