Your description of Greenskin defence lies very close to how I play Kislev as well, particularly once Archaon comes barelling south... Their territories are simply too contested, the lack of Capital settlements - where all the good stuff is found - really means you don't lose a whole lot by taking and losing those far northern provinces. i normally play as Grimgore, and I do pretty well with him as I do most of the stuff you mentioned here BUT I am going to use some of these goblin tactics in my campaign from now on
I miss rotating fanatics like in total war warhammer 2, being able to angle them instead of just forward was VERY useful. Also still dont like how my fanatics just fart out of existance when deployed near walls or cliffs
Should also mention how unbelievably quick the goblin tide truly begins and causes an outrageous snowball. Can have 3 stacks of goblins including skarsniks starting stack by the time your first waaagh begins and thorgrim is dead... when the waaagh fully develops you have 3 stacks of 40 units going.. which is happening by turn 15 or so, you end up so much stronger than everyone else that you just wash over everyone with pure numbers, and this snowball continues... 2nd waaagh starts and you can have 5 or 6 goblin stacks, 3rd one starts and you can have 8... etc. Skarsniks campaign is so funny, last time I played it had over 100 settlements by turn 70 just because of how many stacks I had swarming the map, you dont need a steady income to build your infrastructure, invest it in goblins and watch as the world gets drowned in goblins and your infrastructure is solved from sacking and fighting xD its a fun time, the only challenging part of the campaign is honestly fighting thorgrim at the start once you realise this
I’ve been playing the shit out of this game since the recent DLC drop and the reworks have been awesome. I’ve been playing a lot of dwarven lords and have noticed EVERY game that Thorgrim is getting absolutely clapped every campaign. He’s not making it past turn 30 on most. It’s crazy because his blue armies were almost always tearing through that entire part of the continent prior to the rework. This time around Ungrim is absolutely shitting on people. Every single campaign he’s the big boy
Karaz-a-Karak might be harder to get with recent changes to siege battles(towers have eyes now and can get your units spotted), but nothing really forces you to take it out quickly. Its Thorgrim last bastion, if you besiege it, he cant do anything. So you can wait couple turns to weaken it before attack.
bro i like your " why you suck...." series it's actually very helpful why got only 3k subs! keep it up bro I think if you keep this up you will blow up as a content creator!
Basic goblins are deceptively good front line holding units because of their sheer numbers per unit, just keep a hero nearby for morale. Sacking, devouring captives, and the Troll Hag all let them replenish hugely after getting wrecked as a frontline easily.
on defending territory, one thing i will say is, while a good offense is gud def etc, a good defense on skar-boi is ez as all heckins, given his reduction to upkeep costs to gobbos faction-wide of 40%. you can get low tier gobbo army stacks of 20 basically anywhere u want to deter incoming attacks for barely a loss in income per turn
The extended greenskins unit roster mod makes the skarsnik campaign that much more fun! The forest goblin waaaghboss is a perfectly balanced Lord and totally not broken.
I don't know about anyone else and maybe this was AI changes but the grudgebearer will refuse to attack me until he has no less than 2 armies. I could be raiding him and he'll just watch until he has backup.
Grom is such a better goblintide leader. With all his buffs, base goblins in his army become insane high tier troops, virtually unbreakable and packing heavy armor and decent physical resistance, with a bonus vs large and some armor piercing damage. Losing even a single model becomes a rare event. Silver Helms and White Lions soil themselves when they hear them coming. And this isnt even counting the Cauldron buffs you get when playing as his faction I remember playing him for a while in WH2, then confederating Skarsnik and wondering what he was for
Actually Skarsnik is one of the guys im pretty damn good with. Building an army of extremely cheap goblins that are powered as a semi late game unit due to all the buffs they receive is damned good. You can have at least twice as many armies as you normally do. Im just here to enjoy the video.
You dont want to attack Wurzag early - I only play on Legendary/VH and as an ally he can field far more stacks than I could with his territory - then you can just beat him and confed him late once you've painted the map. You help him out and kill off threats to him.
Another reason to get Werzag earlier is because while you can't recruit regular orcs you can get savage orcs like most lords and they're good with squig-hoppers as a hammer and anvil.
How to play greenskins in Total War Warhammer - exactly the same as you do on table top. Just do what you'd do on table top, build your army the same as you do on table top and play them how you would on table top, don't think about it, just do it and it just works because they're balanced for that. This is how I've always played Orcs and Goblins, ever since the first game 8 years ago. The only important factor is you need to keep your lords and heroes alive, they are the only units you need to care about, everything else you just throw at the enemy and forget. So long as the lords and heroes remain alive, your horde won't run away... most of the time. I remember as a kid, seeing someone at a local Games Workshop store with a Crooked Moonz army and what he used in his army list is fundamentally what made Crooked Moonz so terrifyingly meta and meme worthy at the time and why everyone who took the game seriously who played greenskins went Crooked Moonz for back in 6th edition of WFB. Which was... Fanatics with their giant spinning steel balls andnasty skulkers, lots and lots of nasty skulkers, including a single Arachnarok, I remember the guy had 2 full units of nasty skulkers on the table flanking the Fanatics. I won't ever forget that army list or watching the guy take on a Warriors of Chaos list and win, with Goblins. So yeah, what you start with as Skarsnik is a good indicator as to what you should be using throughout the campaign, as he starts with a very meta Crooked Moonz list, right out of a 8th edition Warhammer Army Box.
A mod which helps deal with the AI's weird leveling system, is the "Recruit Defeated Legendary Lords" mod. You have to destroy the faction, or wait till the faction dies. Once done, all immortal characters can then be claimed by your faction. On doing so, the characters retain their level, but lack any used points. So a level 40 lord, would have 39 or so talent points for you to spend. This mod allows you to crump the Great Green Prophet, then recruit him five turns after his death, at his current level, and then skill him up appropriately.
You can...sell settlements for instant profit and diplomacy. Like example, getting non-agression pact from faction that doesnt like you much. Redistribution of settlements is also way to setting up wars between factions, because if faction A owns setllement in province of faction B, they'll very likelly fight for it(if they arent aligned). Holding settlements that doesnt have right climate for your faction is not very productive, but you can sell it, often for huge profit. You can enpower your allies making theirs economy stronger, you can make your potential enemies like you more, you can make enemy of your enemy stronger. Its all purpose diplomatic tool. Yesterday i sold settlement to Sylvania to get non-agression pact and money. That settlement got razed to the ground next turn, but i still have my treaty. And money. If i wanted, i could re-occupy it and sell it to them once again. Sylvania always pays well. And at same time, i dont piss them off holding piece of land in theirs territory fighting vampiric corruption for long.
@@BlakesTakes420 I like river trolls thematically to roll around with the river troll hag as 1 unit.. they work pretty well together but youre right they arent anywhere near as good as the stone versions
I always use the goading tactics with Skaven. Once you get the research "Numbers beyond counting" then fielding entire skaven slave armies is very cheap. I just throw the skaven slaves near an enemy army with my actual army in ambush stance in front. The following battle lasts all of 30 seconds as my weapons teams then tear into them.
7:06. I prefer cheesing in such situations and wait for the large garrison to arrive and get surrounded in an ambush. Then it’s just aneasy auto resolve for a settlement battle
Personal flaw I had playing his campaign, I kept using goblin armies past their prime, making battles quite a manual drag. Should have used more better units in the mix.
Another thing about greenskins and especially skarsnik because of his massive discount for goblins is unlike most factions... It's more advantageous to have a lot of cheap armies rather then a few very powerful armies. This is because every army is another army that can raid and the more armies you have the more value you get from the waaagh mechanic. If you get a mushroom addicted lord and a mushroom addicted hero you can get 0 upkeep for goblin units (in the late game with the blue line and tech upkeep reduction) so you can field countless free goblin armies. You should still have a couple of quality armies though.
Suprised you didn't touch on the waaaagh mechanics. I got my first Waaaagh after beeting Thorgrim and his 2nd Army at Pillars of Grungni. I waited 2 turns to recruit some more gobbos in the 2nd army and recruited a general to build a 3rd army at high place. Tretch was willing to sign a NAP for 500 gold so I took it. Set the Waagh target as Karak 8 peaks and sieged karaz-a-karak they were unwilling to attack my sieging armies so I let the waagh army build up for 2 turns and then autoresolved it. Third army was almost full so I started a 4th and started marching south. I had 8 peaks by turn 15(11 turns left in the waaagh). So I declared war on Queek and Karak Azul and just kept marching on. I had 6 armies of pure gobbos by this point. I lost 1 army to an ambush. I finished Queek off with 1 turn left in the Waaagh and then Belegar declared war on me. I had a defensive alliance with Wurzag. He wanted to confederate so I took it. Sold a city to Skarsbrand for an alliance and made a NAP with Kalida. By the time I finished of Karak Azul I was almost to another Waaagh. So I killed the Skaven that start with Black Krag to get it. I set my target as Belegar since he is rank 1 in my game and my obvious next target anyways.
I suck at playing all factions, mostly because I suck at tactics. And planning, and keeping calm, and reading what abilities do, and what troops are good at, and using troops at what they are supposed to do, and also…
I loved the video, it was really helpful. I I couldn't find an answer for this anywhere else but when I confederate Wurzag as Skarsnik, even once he's no longer wounded and "returns to the front", I can't recruit him. Any idea why?
I don't, I haven't tried modding the game yet. He doesn't show up on the recruiting menu at all, it's just the generic lords. It's so weird, I haven't had this issue with any other faction. @@BlakesTakes420

Skarsnik is probably one of the easiest campaigns in the entire game. Get tech for reduced goblin upkeep, spam out 5 armies of goblins, pop waaagh, win campaign.
Respectfully, I disagree. I think there's faaaaar easier campaigns than skarsnik. At least the orc restrictions in the early game force you to think somewhat tactically with how to use your gobbos. Thanks for your comment.
@@BlakesTakes420 there isn't much tactics involved when your goblins cost like 30-40g upkeep, and you can easily roll over thorgrim with nasty skulker spam, then you just pop waagh and have like 8 armies to play around with on like turn 25 and I really don't' see how it's difficult at all. I guess it's difficult if have literally 0 idea how to play greenskins.
Skarsnik I find the be the strongest of the green skins and stream roll so fast with them. All trash stacks and hero spam but you can have so many armies and that is all you need.
@@BlakesTakes420 Grom's faction powers are stronger but the expansion rate of Skarnik's faction is unmatched. I would take grom's faction to deal with end game stuff but pure expansion insanity goes to Skarsnik making me feel that he has the easiest campaign.
I actually have almost 0 issues playing skarsnik. Even if you're not hyper aggresive like blake, you can make up with it with overwhelming force. You can afford to recruit and maintain effectively 3 armies from very early on. You bait attacks and you want to utilize your starting goblin hero as an assassin in battles. Ignore his passive bonuses and solely spec him into fighting. He will go toe to toe with pretty much any surrounding lord/hero in the early game. He will be a better fighter for than skarsnik. Against the dwarves, squighoppers if you can get them early enough. their anti-armor and outmaneuver the dwarves easily. you can rip ranged units apart in seconds. avoid the goblin riders and the mounted version, waste of money. Squigs are superior. Orcs are fine to recruit once you get 8 peaks. Secondary lords tend to due just fine with them. Especially if you can confederate wurrzhag or azhag. Grimgor later on but that's a bigger issue. Grom is likely dead by the time you get over there so dont worry about him. Wurrzhag does well early and you can snipe him with an ambush. Take the ability skarsnik death juice when you unlock it with a skill point. Put it on all your night goblins. It does soooooooo much work. Your strengths as gobbos are ambushes and sheer quantity of dudes. Remember you get 40% upkeep and recruitment cost reduction. Always loot and occupy. money, replen and you have a chance to not downgrade the settlement
hands down if you play agressive, you can have karak 8peaks within the first 30 turns easy peasy, destroy wuzzak on the way and all of a sudden youre having an empir skarsnik is a monster
If you don't conquer Karak eight peaks by turn 30, the player should be forced to change the name to Karak *Late* Peaks. But take Wurrzag first, and you'll have a way easier time taking K8P
The mistake I i was making later in the game was just thinking higher tier units (and Orcs) were just better. Not so with Snarsnik; dont have a stack of black orcs, have three stacks of trash goblins.
Good question. Short answer is no. The long answer is NoOooooOOooooo He's just not a useful fighter, his anti-large bonus is helpful against Thorgrim early, but he's slow and fragile and doesn't belong in the front lines, especially when the enemy starts bringing the really heavy hitters. His strength is his blue line skills. I grab the goblin tide perk early, prioritize blue line skills then move onto red skills to make his army better. Even his unique line skills are painfully mediocre - but I'd pick those up before the yellow line. Hope this helps.

2nd waaagh starts and you can have 5 or 6 goblin stacks, 3rd one starts and you can have 8... etc. Skarsniks campaign is so funny, last time I played it had over 100 settlements by turn 70 just because of how many stacks I had swarming the map, you dont need a steady income to build your infrastructure, invest it in goblins and watch as the world gets drowned in goblins and your infrastructure is solved from sacking and fighting xD its a fun time, the only challenging part of the campaign is honestly fighting thorgrim at the start once you realise this
The waagh mechanic is extremely good, and let's greenskins snowball like crazy.
I love it.
I do some of this, but beelining for wurrzag I never thought of.
Wurrzag slaps man. Slurp him up early.
I really enjoyed this video. Great editing, helpful tips, and humorous. You have a good format here!
You're very kind. Thank you for the lovely comment.
This series you're making is awesome friend! Keep up the good work
Thank you Pedro. Always nice to hear 🙏
I do not, nor have any intention to, play Total War. And I cannot stop watching these.
Very kind of you to say so! :)
Been waiting 2wks for this
More coming soon master Zack.
Thia video's humor is 11/10.

Thank you so much! Really appreciate your support!
Basic goblins are deceptively good front line holding units because of their sheer numbers per unit, just keep a hero nearby for morale. Sacking, devouring captives, and the Troll Hag all let them replenish hugely after getting wrecked as a frontline easily.
Luv me goblins
on defending territory, one thing i will say is, while a good offense is gud def etc, a good defense on skar-boi is ez as all heckins, given his reduction to upkeep costs to gobbos faction-wide of 40%. you can get low tier gobbo army stacks of 20 basically anywhere u want to deter incoming attacks for barely a loss in income per turn
The extended greenskins unit roster mod makes the skarsnik campaign that much more fun! The forest goblin waaaghboss is a perfectly balanced Lord and totally not broken.

You Opened my eyes ! Thanks now I'll use Grom!
Good stuff
I don't know about anyone else and maybe this was AI changes but the grudgebearer will refuse to attack me until he has no less than 2 armies. I could be raiding him and he'll just watch until he has backup.
I’ve noticed this as well. He’s much harder to bait into an ambush now
Grom is such a better goblintide leader. And this isnt even counting the Cauldron buffs you get when playing as his faction
I remember playing him for a while in WH2, then confederating Skarsnik and wondering what he was for
Excellent stuff!
Thank you for your kind words 🫶
Actually Skarsnik is one of the guys im pretty damn good with.
Building an army of extremely cheap goblins that are powered as a semi late game unit due to all the buffs they receive is damned good. You can have at least twice as many armies as you normally do. Im just here to enjoy the video.

That's very kind of you to say Chef Goblin.

The Tim Curry clip is gold.
He's a gem isn't he?
You dont want to attack Wurzag early - I only play on Legendary/VH and as an ally he can field far more stacks than I could with his territory - then you can just beat him and confed him late once you've painted the map. You help him out and kill off threats to him.
I disagree, I don't want some third rate, poorly leveled up Wurrzag in my gang, no sir.
Another reason to get Werzag earlier is because while you can't recruit regular orcs you can get savage orcs like most lords and they're good with squig-hoppers as a hammer and anvil.
You sure can! Savage orcs are great
How to play greenskins in Total War Warhammer - exactly the same as you do on table top.

I only play vanilla (for my sins)
Thank you, I have never sucked with Skarsnik but this video confirmed I do not.
Great to hear that. Stick around to find out why you do/ don't suck with more 😉
You can...sell settlements for instant profit and diplomacy.
I cannot suck with him if I never play with him 😅

I always use the goading tactics with Skaven. Once you get the research "Numbers beyond counting" then fielding entire skaven slave armies is very cheap. I just throw the skaven slaves near an enemy army with my actual army in ambush stance in front. The following battle lasts all of 30 seconds as my weapons teams then tear into them.
Bring forth the vermintide
7:06. I prefer cheesing in such situations and wait for the large garrison to arrive and get surrounded in an ambush. Then it’s just aneasy auto resolve for a settlement battle
🐻🧀
Awesome sauce my man....thanks....
You're very welcome.
Personal flaw I had playing his campaign, I kept using goblin armies past their prime, making battles quite a manual drag. Should have used more better units in the mix.
Gobbos supported by stone trolls for mass are very effective.
Good narration, really feels like your whispering secrets and shit into my ear 10/10 - warhammer asmr soon?
Patent pending.
I love the Goblin-tide

Magic resistance all gone baby.
It's Gorkin' time
Suprised you didn't touch on the waaaagh mechanics.

The ''Why You SUCK'' series is really really amazing!

I suck at playing all factions, mostly because I suck at tactics. And planning, and keeping calm, and reading what abilities do, and what troops are good at, and using troops at what they are supposed to do, and also…

He's good, but I'd say Grom is much better, personally.
@@BlakesTakes420 Grom's faction powers are stronger but the expansion rate of Skarnik's faction is unmatched. I would take grom's faction to deal with end game stuff but pure expansion insanity goes to Skarsnik making me feel that he has the easiest campaign.
Da Red Gobbo moment around 15:20
Oh. For once one I don't suck with.

hands down if you play agressive, you can have karak 8peaks within the first 30 turns easy peasy, destroy wuzzak on the way and all of a sudden youre having an empir
skarsnik is a monster
If you don't conquer Karak eight peaks by turn 30, the player should be forced to change the name to Karak *Late* Peaks.
But take Wurrzag first, and you'll have a way easier time taking K8P

They have wronged us!
Is it worth going down yellow skill line at all with skarsnik?
Good question.
Short answer is no.
The long answer is NoOooooOOooooo
He's just not a useful fighter, his anti-large bonus is helpful against Thorgrim early, but he's slow and fragile and doesn't belong in the front lines, especially when the enemy starts bringing the really heavy hitters.
His strength is his blue line skills. I grab the goblin tide perk early, prioritize blue line skills then move onto red skills to make his army better. Even his unique line skills are painfully mediocre - but I'd pick those up before the yellow line.
Hope this helps.
