“…as a producer I don’t want to get influenced…so I don’t really have a clue as to what’s going on in dance music.” Yesss! I love it. Cool philosophy friend. It’s like, why am I trying to sound like everyone else? I do what I LIKE! Yeah, nice.
I'm loving this concept of 'how I play'. Its just interesting to see the thought and decisions the DJ's/Artist make with their setups and the effect it has on the performance :D
There are many other ways to use Ableton more spontaneously, but It's very helpful of him to be so clear and honest about how he's done all those large gigs. He's a great engineer and producer.
DJ TechTools Honestly I was not aware of Stimming until today so I like the fact that you are showing us artists period. Perhaps DJ Kutski if he has any technique to offer? Otherwise I would be happy with surprises from different genres. I always found Keys N Krates setup and synergy fascinating.
Even if its old this video gave me so many ideas about how to improve my live setup. I know now hes rocking with two octotracks, but still this setup he had was very well put together and clever Stimming is a great artist and engineer
It is probably one of the best dj techtools video that i have see till now.... Martin Stimming is a powerfull creator & producer of sound.... its really interesting to see the view of this guy about software music like ableton, traktor,... and what we have to reach for next dj software generation cause till now the software djs are not so intuitive that instruments... that's we have to strive... thats the goal for perfect dj/producing software
Lovely! I'm always thought about Stimming`s cuisine and now I see that he is true musician! Thanks a lot to DJTT for this video! Best regards from St.-Petersburg
Pretty much the same idea I had with my jams, but perfected by a pro. Set up a beat or melody, and once that's rolling knock urself out improvising on your main keyboard, synth, ... or I guess drum pad if you can handle playing a live beat on top of another.
Awesome series, it would be much more helpful if you could include things such as the exact models they use and any info on complicated wiring(not necessary all the time).
Hi DJ tech tools! First of al i want to say that i love all the video's you guys post here! Secondly, i wanted to ask if there is ever going to be a giveaway, or a competion where you van win stuff? (I'm sorry for my englisch, its nog perfect,i'm from belgium ;) )
DJ TechTools what's to win doesn't matter for me, i would even be happy with smal things like a free sample pack, or some chroma caps, or something like that :)
Und jetzt bitte alles nochmal auf deutsch... :-P nein, ich verstehe dein Englisch schon ganz gut. ;) GENIAL was für Töne so aus deiner Technik kommen.. ! Und noch viel genialer, was du damit machst. Danke für die Blumen Stimming!
So he uses 3 buses of his music, and then 4 more? I'm confused. Could someone who understood explain the other 4 tracks that he is using in Ableton? Are they another song? Thanks.
basically, his 3 buses equal 1 let's call it "regular dj channel", just split in stems. so to mix his tunes with one another, he needs 2 "regular dj channels" which = 6 tracks in ableton. next channel (7) is an audio input from OP1 and the next one (8) is the input from Voyager, that's it! :) very neat setup and a very talented producer!
Oh, wow. I was just confused. It looked like he had 3 tracks with samples loaded, and then 4 next to it. That makes sense though, since the APC (whatever model that is) has 8 channels. Thank you!
Having 3 instead of 4 busses, done that for a while then moved to 5, using the 5th for fx's/athmo. 4 is way better than 3 unless you dont use vocals.Using vocals or just wanting to have control over your baselines is definitely a 4 bus job. In the end its all about preferences...
@@Mobbsbloodmoneythere is not really much other AL artists than AoT playing live, others are doing DJ sets mostly, i would be really interested in "how i produce" with almost all of them tho :)
if you mix to many colors you get brown ...yah..... well said him , burial , Richie Hawtin and a few others are just in there own realm when it comes to there music .
Enrico Guelfi Hey Enrico, no MIDI keyboard in this setup. There's two synthesizers. Go to the article here to see all of the gear used: djtechtools.com/2015/07/31/mixing-mastering-dance-music-interview-with-luca-pretolesi/
Because if not the only other option is mostly CDJ's and a mixer which at that point most of those DJ's don't know anything about them other than they can plug a flash-drive in. Not trash talking, but I do know quite a few people who would look like idiots if you asked them to talk about features on a DJM or especially a CDJ.
I know IT made Three years you said this ans they didnt Do an "how i Play" about him but Ceephax Acid Crew didnt use either...he uses only hardware...really nice musician!!
I really love the way he explains everything, and it's very informativ. But what i don't like about Stimmin is he's nerdy way of trying to be so unique and exclusive.
This guy is simply an icon for me, his music touches my soul.
could you make a new "how I play" video with stimming ? He changes his setup a lot

MaximumHeresy Thanks! Who else would you like to see?
DJ TechTools Paul Kalkbrenner would be awesome :D
DJ TechTools John Talabot, Moderat, Flying Lotus, Jon Hopkins, Machinedrum
DJ TechTools Black Coffee & Alexkid

Very inspirational, staying in his own basement musically, that focus on creating sound with it being like a program, love this guy
if you mix to many color's what you get is brown .....great quot for any dj/ producers
Idk what if you like the color brown though?
@@WHYZMAN_ yea what's wrong with brown

4:18 - 5:13 best part.

Ikr. That 'woody' delay on the start is out of this world/
Worst part
Stimming - Sunday Morning
The build was great but the drop was less appealing.
Yes! Stimming is such a boss!
Which soundcard is he using to perform like this?
I spotted an RME BabyFace
If you choose too many colors, what you get is brown! GENIUS!!!

can anyone refer me to some quality examples of other electronic artists who play live like this?
Tim Stafford Watch Kink's Boiler Room :3
+Tim Stafford Marc houle's boiler room is also an excellent Live set.
+Tim Stafford David August, Henrik Shwarz, KiNK, Ame, Nicolas Jaar, Recondite. Hope you like them. Cheers.
+Ran Heis max cooper too
SO GEILER SOUND
I'm not complaining but it seems all of the "How I Play"'s contain DJs who use either Ableton or NI (or both)
Because if not the only other option is mostly CDJ's and a mixer which at that point most of those DJ's don't know anything about them other than they can plug a flash-drive in.
