    Awesome! He's so open with sharing his knowledge!
    The only thing I did not quite understand from his explanations is if he uses patterns to change songs or if he manually changes the audio files for each track which he seems to say, but I'm not sure.
    I do the latter with only one pattern and it's a bit of a hassle, but it allows for smoother transitions because the volumes are consistent.
    If anyone understands this part better, I would love to know!

      I think he uses one pattern per track, and cut his tracks into 4 sections, which he fires by using parts. As a trig condition, you can set a different sample on one trig within the same pattern, and let each part trigger a different sample. The sample would need to be either free from the sequencer and triggered one-shot (since it is not a drum loop) or sliced and set as a new trig every 64 (or so) steps for every new slice, but I think that would require more than one pattern per track. Not sure if you can link trig conditions to trigger different samples, if that works, then both options are possible. I'm still to find out :) hope this helps

      would need that machine too. it looks maybe as it was build by FMR. Cause it looks very similar to their machines --> www.thomann.de/de/fmr_audio_rnla_7239.htm and www.thomann.de/de/fmr_audio_rnc_1773.htm i used this both for exact the same thing. but for now i have a mastering EQ and Compressor in my chain build in the MC-707 groovebox. I will see how this works on the next gig.

    Martin is such an awesome spirit. Sharing all his knowledge in the highest of kindness one can have, while having really interesting and complex approaches to production in general, but being able to do THESE things with just 2 Octatracks is simply completely mind-blowing. Such an outstanding, under-rated and open-minded artist. Martin could talk about this stuff for 10 hours and it wouldn't get tiring.

    How does one deal with the low end when combining two octatracks, one being bass drum, percussion etc the other being subs, bass and everything else? Does it have a side chain compression or volume ducking of some sort?

    • @rhythmdroid
      @rhythmdroid 4 роки тому +2

      OT doesn't have audio-responsive effects, so, he just makes sure that the stems coming from one don't overlap, bass-wise with the kicks and perc coming from the other. OT does have internal LFOs that are tempo-syncable and you could route one to automatically duck the volume or rhytmically filter out the bass of an audio file, but it's not directly "repsonding" to a kick drum coming from anywhere. To to that yo'd have to employ a standalone compressor and do some signal splitting to get a sidechain key.

    Hey, thanks for that nice video. I love the crystal clear sounds of Stimming. Really, really nice.
    I have got a couple of questions:
    1. What the Name of the Synth?
    2. And do you have any way to prelisten to the synth, or some stuff from the octatrack?
    3. What is the main reason why you updated from elektron model:samples to a second octatrack? (saw you using one couple of months ago in cologne)
    4. Is there something similar as a live-mastering device? Or any recommendations to doing so via ableton?
    5. What is your secret of producing this crystal clear sounds? :-)
    Thanks again.

  • @RaquelFoster

    It's funny he talks about how there's so much new stuff and he likes old stuff, and I totally feel what he's saying, but he's sitting in front of two Octatrack MK2s. Then again, I just Googled it and the MK1 came out in January 2011! I don't think I knew what an Octatrack was until 2017 LOL. I think I noticed Launchpads in 2012. I guess I was more into jogging and listening to Crystal Method or chilling and listening to Autechre back then. I thought Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk was just some guys who soldered together some Moog parts and mostly played samples on laptops. Maybe because I lived in Ohio and UA-cam didn't exist. I thought I had to go to Ibiza to find an EDM club. Kinda blew my mind to find one in Texas. Do I have a point? I'm going to sleep.

    • @neandertalero
      @neandertalero 3 роки тому +1

      i thought the same when i saw the octatracks. i guess you can consider the octa already a classic. at the same time, it is funny to realize that the original sh-101 was initially a cheap synth...it would have never become a classic if everyone (or at least the most creative ones) at the time decided to make music only with old stuff/classics/expensive stuff. point?
