- Madame Web Movie Review! It's Morbin' Time again. Sony is back with another craptastic film in their stupid Spider-Man Universe that doesn't have Spider-Man. Madam Web is the 4th film in the SSU and somehow the worst. There is basically nothing redeemable here unless you count laughing at a movie as a plus. The acting is crap, the script is worse, the effects are comical. I roast this for a good 10+ minutes but leave room in the tank for a spoiler video down the road. Subscribe for that and more!

I'm in tears from laughing so hard. I despise Sony's Non Spider-Man Verse, but this sounds like a new low for them. How does Sony lose money on Morbius TWICE in two theatrical runs and then hire the same 'writers' to make more bombs?
Well what's worst is they actually thought the jokes were legit to release the morbius movie.

This is a case where I feel a spoiler is a public service. If you're going to the theater looking for a superhero movie, this isn't one. This is a two hour teaser for a movie they will never make.
It's hard to believe Sony gave us those beautiful Sam Raimi Spider-man movies.
No, SAM RAIMI gave us Spider-Man, and Spider-Man 2. It wasn't until 3 when Sony interfered and forced Sam to put Venom in it even though he hated the character, and it ruined the movie. Sony has always sucked.

@@bisnu548 yeah, you could say Sony was responsible for all 7 of the good Spiderman movies. Of course a couple of those came from the MCU but you're right, Sony still had a huge hand in it.
Dont worry, Adam. I also went to see this on Valentines Day with my nephew and this may be the worst movie we ever seen. Its third on my list below Last Jedi and Batman and Robin. Whats hilarious was how looney tunes the villain was as he gets hit by everything and kills himself by accident. This film is trash.
Do spiders have the ability to see the future? I’m confused about how the power matches with the origin story. Radioactive spider giving web powers makes sense (within the suspension of disbelief inherent to superhero movies).

I’m really glad you pointed out the nepo baby of it all. So many movies are failing these days because of nepotism. It existed before but it feel like it’s taking over. So many incredibly talented actors who will never even be considered for this part cause it goes to someone’s famous kid. I know for big part s they choose, “name recognition”. But did her name really bring anyone to see it. Emma Roberts is a nepo baby too. So is one of the writers of this. 🙈 I just wish that cast more like the used to, where actors had to audition for the part.

I honestly never even knew about this movie till yesterday; it says a lot about how bad ads are that I actively block and avoid them.

I have no desire to see this movie, just as I have had no desire to see any of these Spider-Man-less "Spider-Man movies". Total trash. Dakota Johnson was actually pretty good in THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON.
Dakota Johnson's performance is one of the only compliments I've seen coming from the reviews. That's how bad this thing is I guess lol. I've only ever seen her in a couple of movies. One she was bad, the other pretty good. Disturibia was the latter.
Can we all just agree to stop going to superhero movies? It’s over, people. Plenty of other genres for Hollywood to flog to death.
Fun fact: Dakota's acting looking awkward and real boring was because...she really didn't want to do the movie. She hates the movie more than anyone. She hated doing the movie so much, she fired her agent and refused to put this film on her resume. She also agrees that the superhero genre is going down hill. After all that, I actually respect her. I feel sorry for her that she had to do this shit.
This was basically a spoiler review but I’m not complaining. That’s what I wanted. Probably hard to avoid spoilers when a movie is by the books.

If Cannon Films had Sony-Pepsi money, then I feel this might be something you'd get but with more silliness and heart. Sony needs to keep its Spider License for PS games mainly, so shoot out a turd every other year. I love corporations!

$80 mil production budget. That may be lower than other recent comic book movies, but it's still clear evidence of money laundering.
U have me laughing 😆. I havent seen dakota johnson in anything but based on interviews, she does seem kind of limited in her emoting. I heard she might be in a new movie with my fave pedro pascal, probably bc they now have the same agent, but I really hope not. She will drag it down.

Not really that great of an ad since it makes me want to go out and buy RC Cola. By the way why does no one mentioned the irony that there's this much Pepsi Cola placement in a movie made by a company once owned by Coca-Cola they actually had a syndication company called Coca-Cola communications and that seems like less product placement in this movie had.
After seeing this , no way Tom Holland is going to want to be the Spider-Man in this universe. And yeah , that Kraven movie is doa , no way it makes money

I saw it Thursday. I was probably the only person in the theater who'd paid for a ticket. (In Manila Seniors see movies for free on designated days.) The only reason I was there is it started at 3pm and I had stuff to do later. Also, I was probably the only person who wasn't nodding off . They were the lucky ones.

I don't think Sony understands that just because a character is in the Spiderman comics doesnt mean they have to be involved in spider powers somehow. Her parents were involved in spider research? (I know, just the trailer). Really, how convenient. That's just lazy writing. I wouldnt be surprised if Sony's announced movie for Kraven the Hunter starts with him working as a lab assistant in the place where Peter Parker got bit by the super spider 🤣🤣 Then Kraven finds he can shoot webs out of his arse

Good review Adam, I’ll be honest I liked it. Although the camera shorts were a bit too fast, and the villain voice and mouth didn’t add up. I liked the thriller aspect too it

I saw it today. I thought it was okay at best. I think I liked it a touch more than most, but indeed it wasn't good. I honestly think this was the first superhero movie I saw with essencially zero superheros. Adam is also correct in that they sleep walked the entire time.

Madame Web was awesome in the 90's Spider-Man cartoon. She was voiced by Stan Lee's wife, and she did an incredible job. If they would have cast somebody like Helen Mirren, or Dame Judi Dench to play her in an actual Spider-Man movie it would have been great.

Reviewer nails something that often gets ignored but is a huge issue in these kind of "B List" sci fi or comic book movies. That is the weird obsession now with not having women look hot or even romance in them, especially for female movies. These movies 100% need that. That is what Michael Bay or the old Tomb Raider movies and others in the past got that elevated what could be cheesy or bad movie ideas. These kind of movies cannot just stand on the plot or the merits of the story. They are B movie trash properties being mined by studios for a quick buck that has some limited IP value.
You dress down Angelina Jolie according to 2024 PC sensibilities that movie would have been forgotten and received universally negative reviews. Because a Tomb raider movie is not some Oscar movie, you need a hot women looking hot to get butts in seats. But these comic book movies of B level characters refuse to do that now, because 2024. You need to make this a guilty pleasure and have something in it extra to make you like it even if the plot is hokey or bad. But now, you just have to judge it by the plot and bad special effects alone, so they all bomb now.
Yep. Hot women exist. Keep the runtime down to 1 1/2 hours. Movie can be dumb trash but still watchable if you know the audience. Sony clearly didn't here.

Dakota Johnson HAD to have gone to her manager and said “make me a marvel hero” (because marvel studios = BIG BUCKS/spotlight fame)
Her manager probably said (like an exhausted parent): “of course, Princess. I’ll make you a marvel hero” then proceeded to accept the only Marvel role available to her… which ended up being in a disconnected failing Sony spin-off universe.
No wonder she fired her manager after the first trailer dropped. Yeesh.
I have to say,this is one the most enjoyable videos-by Mr. Ollinger-that I’ve ever seen.He makes some great points and delivers some incisive comments and amusing quips.It’s such a relief to hear someone pointing out that Dakota Johnson is a beneficiary of nepotism and that she’s not particularly talented.It must galling to all the really talented,struggling movie actors to see getting all this lucrative work.

Dude. Love your reviews. Plan on seeing this to have a good laugh. This is yet another example of a big budget action movie "directed" by a "director" with ZERO qualifications to make this sort of material. I don't even need to see it to make that statement.
In an interview Dakota Johnson was asked about the Spider-Verse Story so far...asked about the names of the 3 Tom Holland MCU Spider-Man movies and she didn't know the names of them. Lol shows she truly does not care and it does show in her performance. Haha Ma damn web is what it should be called because this wasn't it once again...Kraven and Venom 3 are gonna be just as dumb as Venom, Venom Let There Be Carnage, and Morbius. The only thing Sony has done right are the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films and the animated spider-verse movies. They need to give free reign and the keys to everyone involved with the animated Spider verse movies to take complete control of the live action Spiderman universe if they want to succeed. They are going to be another DCEU and Dark Universe Failed Cinematic Universe if they continue this course. For God sakes...put Spider-Man in every movie! Just have him make a cameo appearance at least. Lol Ma Damn Web gets a 2/10. Morbius was better because I could see something of a theme in that movie. They had something going on with Morbius being healed from his health and wellbeing at the cost of his soul. It was an allegory for drug addiction. They at least had some thematic element in that dog shit movie. Lol but this one was hard to decipher. I felt nothing going in and nothing going out. Ma Damn Web Sucks.

At this point we all know Sony is desperate and down right sleazy with Spiderman adjacent movies. It all started with amazing spiderman 2. They had the rhino in the trailer even though he was on screen for less than 3 minutes and never fought. Ever since they started with the venom and shit, they have been constantly making shit up about how one day this will all be connected to Tom Holland Spiderman movies. Morbius was- morbius. People thought all the nonsense red herring of Spiderman connections and vulture crossover would all make sense but most of them were deliberately put in for marketing and trailers. No one cared about venom 2 but at least the actors went batshit crazy. Point is-- at this point we can't even complaint that the ladies weren't in their suits and with powers. We cant complain about the forced Peter Parker's mom bs or how evrything looks like shit-- this is just what sony "spidey" movies are. These are the new "we gotta keep the licence so let's make a SHIT MOVIE every other year or so"

I think Dakota Johnson is not exactly a great actress but she knew she had to move away from away from that 50 shades curse and she delivered some good performances with Luca Guadanino’s Suspiria and some other semi indie films. Here you can tell she regrets being in front of the camera because she realized it was a pile of crap so her face is like “not again” all the time. Like a kid eating broccoli.
Dakota is actually brilliant in the Suspiria remake. Trust me.

“Brilliant” is definitely overdoing it. Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth and even what we saw of Chloe Grace Moretz delivered the brilliant performances. But Dakota’s performance was good…..which for her was quite an achievement. Amazing what a good director and script can accomplish.
