2020 Volvo S60 Review: Does Volvo Make The World's Best Luxury Sports Sedan?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- Ask the general public, "what luxury sports sedan should you buy?" and the response will likely be "Something German." Some of the more well rounded might suggest something from the UK, Italy, Japan or even America. Most people wouldn't dream of suggesting Volvo. Volvo has a reputation for being extremely safe, and a bit quirky. Sport is something Volvo hasn't done much of in recent years.
Enter the 2019 Volvo S60 R Design. It does everything you want in a luxury sports sedan. It's comfortable, has good looks inside and out, and is sporty. It does have good enough numbers to make you wonder if it is the best all-rounder in the luxury sports sedan scene.

That is the sexiest volvo ever made!
NO, that's STILL the P1800
Seriously, apart from the headlights and the tail lights, this is just an updated S60. And with no manual gearbox, not really worth bothering with. Volvo geartronic gearboxes are not that good.
I have an S90 T5 for a little over a year now, I just love it. I agree both S60 and S90 are the best-looking sedans available, although my heart also beats for the Cadillac CTS and CT6 as good looking sedans.
Couldn't agree more. On all points.
Yes. Volvo all the way.
Like people suddenly become gearbox experts just by commenting on youtube lol
The car is a dream and worth every penny.
very handsome, no unnecessary lines.
My mom has the R-design but she has the polestar package and it makes such a difference.
I have a white R design. Best decision I ever made on buying a car. Love love love it. People stare at it
That’s what I have now. I love my Volvo. The seats are so comfortable plus the “heads up” displays is the best.
Not a fan of the engine choices/configurations but they’re quick and the design language of these revamped models is insane. Good move by Geebly and Vo. Very curious to how it will age, guess time will tell.
I bought this car today. I love everything except the steering wheel is shaking when i drive it. Any thoughts?
Heather Albrecht Did you find out what happened with the steering? I’m considering getting this car too.
Back to the dealer for explanation from lane assist system. I own thesame it is a safety feature. Supposed to do that unless switched off 😃👍
I drive a S80 2.5t. 2011. Safety and comfort is one of the best i hv driven.
Apparently there was one BMW owner that had to give it a thumbs down? WTF?
The old professor
Clan Robertson cmon face it , the Germans make the best vehicles!
I’m actually getting a Volvo S60 t6 inscription but that’s because I’m getting a good deal with the Costco auto program.
Volvo uses the Aisin transmission which is owned by Toyota/Lexus.
The Aisin was used in the 1990s. Now they are using The 8 speed ZF.
@@nachoperaita3460 isn't that a rwd transmission?
@@alexstromberg7696 It's used on The Volvo V90 which is Front Wheel Drive. The Aisin was used on the 850/V70 series.
@@nachoperaita3460 No they aren't...They are still using Aisin
@@onnextech the 8 speed Aisin is a slightly modified 6 speed Aisin
I think this is just what my wife would want after driving a 2007 525i for 10 years or better. It was no speedster either yet she loved the look and comfort of her "B". Just hope the reliability of this car is better than her B.
OF COURSE IT IS THE BEST!! ITS A VOLVO! 🙄 One of these days I will own one just like that! Love everything about that car!
It's pretty special. Save up and get the t8. It's a monster.
ShiftingLanes I currently have a 2012 t5 and I love it! But when this new body style came out, I was amazed!! Definitely need to go drive one sometime!
@@ShiftingLanes isn't the Volvo T8 heavier because of all the components that it has for the Electric System?
I drove a 2019 V60 for 1200 km and i must say, the comfort in my 10 year old V70 is way better seats are to short and dont support my legs.
Also it was a hell lot ,ore bumpier and the driver assist sometimes got fooled because of bad road surface
The S60 looks so cool!!!
I own a V50 T5, which has the legendary 2.5 liter Turbocharged Five Cylinder motor fitted, and it's a fantastic car. It's comfortable, practatible, drives really well for a front wheel drive car, is safe, and has more than enough usable horsepower (217) It's my everyday driver, and frankly, I don't see the need for any more horsepower or torque, as it's perfectly adequate for every day commuting, along with the odd trip? I, when it comes time, will be replacing it with another Volvo, they are great cars.
I have the exact same car (2005 V50 T5 FWD with the M66 manual gearbox) and I absolutely love the thing. I will drive that car until the wheels fall off, then bolt new ones on and do it all again. It's fantastic. Volvo for life!
Fantastic car, looks much better in person than in the video or on pictures. The only thing these new Volvos lack is a decent transmission as stated in the video. They are slow and laggy for such a new car.
The good thing about Volvo is that they thinking about aftermarket life of their cars. For second owners, Volvo is much better and more reliable than german competitors. Just my opinion.
My 96 Volvo 850 T5 seats are still the most comfortable seats ever made and still maintain their shape after all these years. With the low profile tires and the ever growing potholes, it doesn't matter how good the suspension is you'll just end up bending rims!! I wonder how good Volvo support will be in a few years for the gas powered cars when (as promised) they will be switching over to all electric cars. I agree with Shifting lanes that the S60 R is a great looking car. I worry about all those sensors they stick in today's cars and by adding all that HP to a 2 liter engine. I think I will still stick with my old 850. I have no interest in electric short range cars.

Should be titled: **2019 Volvo S60 - Is there a better Luxury Sport Sedan?**
Keep EVERYTHING - I'm serious. EVERYTHING in Volvo cars and have your sister company, Lotus, to tune its handling. I believe no other sedan maker could produce anything that'll come close to those cars.
Volvo already have polestar to do that.
I'm glad there was a "big enormous but"
You know there ia a polestar edition? Maybe that compares better to m3 and so on?..
Nice tee shirt. We Are…
Well I love the s60 but v60 is cooler cause wagon
0:21 u forgot to say the model lol
Safety
Volvo brakes are engineered with triplicate redundancy !
Yes if it had the inline 5 or 6 cylinder engine
Yeah especially then
Antilaakeri I am a huge Volvo fanboy but there new 4 cylinder engines blow!! Not very refined and they don’t sound very good either..
@@v60polestar88 yep
i love the new volvos, their whole lineup is by far the best looking inside and out... and i know autos have come a long way, but a manual should still be in the lineup, even at a premium...
ive never understood why they havent gone full CVT on the transmissions so there is no laggy gearshifts, way more efficient and always at the peak torque when you need it.
Do they have these transmissions dialed in? Ive seen alot of the pre 2011 Audi's with cvts have alot of issues. And the 2013 sentra. Cvts definetly feel and work amazing but is the reliability there and dialed in? Curious because i dont know much about these new cvts
@@ethixhiggins5059 they've been around for years and years, they were banned from F1 in the early 90s (so they can be designed to take the torque), every twist and go scooter has one, so im pretty sure they can be made reliable... i think the reality is the manufactures thing people like haveing gears, or cvts cost too much compared to conventional autos. i'd still take a stick shift over an auto though, i just feel disconnected in an auto.
@@ethixhiggins5059 There are no Audis with CVTs. In fact, the only brands you will find CVTs in come from Japan or Korea. Audi uses a DCT or traditional torque-converter automatics. Both have gears, but the DCT is effectively an automated manual that can clutch out of one gear while clutching onto the next. Volvo uses a torque-converter automatic; the Volvo automatic is dialed in if you let it shift on its own but it's absolutely worthless if you want to use the paddles to shift your own.
@@dankrafted Building a CVT that can take the power luxury cars are expected to produce would be expensive. It would also be sluggish to shift and can never be as snappy as a properly built and programmed torque-converter or dual-clutch automatic since it has to glide the drive belts around, and that is an inherently slower process than simply grabbing a plate or disengaging a clutch pack. To truly benefit from a CVT you would have to leave it in automatic mode and let it adjust the drive ratio as you accelerate to seamlessly keep the engine in the ideal rev range for what you're asking it to do, otherwise you are wasting the one thing a CVT is better for. This behavior in and of itself would turn off a lot of luxury car buyers because the engines would drone instead of sing up the rev range.
Cvt is garbage lol fails every 90 to 100k miles even in sentras amd corollas
C70 ? 😢
But, the s90?
Not a sports sedan
the s90 is definitely NOT, a sports sedan. Very handsome and timeless in its design, but sportsedan my 98 s90 is not. It IS a sedan though, and the one im driving now is my 5th one.
@@blackpassenger i might be thinking about the new s90, the old one is not sporty in ANY way :p
trust me on that one, I know, Ive had 5 of them. not sporty at all. But i love love love that 90s ital, high boot, sloping bonnet design: e34 bmw, alfa 164, alfa 70, peugeot 405 mi16. All cars I've owned. The 90s 9 series volvo is the last of that design on the road. But to be honest, compared to my e46 bmw, it drives terribly. but i just love that politburo design.
@@blackpassenger No No, they make a s90 and v90 right now... images.app.goo.gl/j9KQNKR9MPXBBmS2A
Close enough but no thanks
0:00 r you kidding!?? No!!!
0:27 you forgot to say " cute 4 banger from india with month of turbo lag"
Cool video! Thanks!
Motor made in Sweden, turbo lag maybe, but since the super charger handles the low revs that is no issue. But thanks for the disinformation.
What does India have to do with it? Volvo is based in Sweden, run by Swedes, owned by Geely, a Chinese conglomerate that basically just gives them money and watches them succeed. The engines are built in Sweden, and have nothing to do with China (or especially India). Plus, as has already been stated, the supercharger is used as boost fill to provide low end torque while the turbo spools, so there is very little lag.
If you want something sporty luxurious get a C30 😎🙌💖🏁🏁🏁
Aint nothing sporty about it, never will be
Who listens to this guy? He pauses every few seconds, he hasn't given any real information and his voice is incredibly annoying.
Not enough cylinders. All china owned hybrid 4 cylinder trash now. Just stick with 5 cylinders or older.
Infiniti is better
