The Volvo is sensational. Reviewed it pretty spot on. I too agree, the steering is way too soft. For too long volvo steering was firm and had the most horrible turning circle. They've over compensated hugely. It's too soft. But it's good point is it is still manageable and constant throughout. Some electric steering in vehicles feels different at certain turning ranges (VF Commodore comes to mind - yuck!). This is at least controllable. The motor is extremely soft too. The whole car lacks a dynamic feel and doesnt give much feedback. The previous 3.0L was so much more fun. But... It's going for a very soft and comfortable feel. And honestly it's nothing short of a masterpiece. If you want something more aggressive and raw don't buy it (buy a 15/16 polestar ;) ). If you want still want some power and drivability but don't mind it being on the softer side, do it. The G70 is great, but it's absolutely nothing in the volvo when you factor every single part in.
I know what you mean with turning circle. Coming from a p2 owner with oversized all terrains 😭. U turns are always 3 point turns and 3 point turns are 5+ point turns. But man does the steering feel nice (I have done some chassis stiffening) and I enjoy it so much more than modern cars. Still not Miata or older bmw level but it’s still great for something meant for comfort. The engine being NA and lower HP is still very peppy and very reactive after the autotragic has adjusted to your driving style (no sport mode but learns how you are with the throttle) and kick downs are aggressive and nearly immediate. The gear ratios let it down though. A manual would make the peppy engine very fun.

Between you guys and Straight Pipes, Canadians have reached boss level for car reviews. Who else would make reviews of filthy dirty cars in winter with barely any actual action interesting and fun to watch.
Throttle House has a great format, the banter, and one liners are awesome, very entertaining yet informative reviews. Definitively pondering the G70 in RWD, seems great value. I think Volvo S60 is exterior design is so well done, no unnecessary curves, false vents, and their interiors (plus seats) seem so good.
They can but don't make development fast as they can.. Who would buy a hyundai sports car if they made it right now. Not only sports car but also a high class sedan. Even I am a Korean but I'd rather buy the german one. May be different in the future
After watching Scotty Kilmer and doing my own research on youtube from German car owners, the only German car brand I'd want is BMW. Miss me with that Volkswagon Group garbage, their abundant issues that need recalls and repairs are insane.
I bought a 2019 T6 AWD MOMENTUM with 500 dealer miles on it. I compared everything new and used and was shocked at how amazing and well thought out the S60 is. The S60 drives like a bigger Mercedes, but more nimble!
I've been curious about the 4cyl G70 and the 4cyl Stinger. I hear they aren't as powerful, but still have lots of get up and go, and what you lose in brute force they make up for in steering and maneuverability. It's 2021 now, and in Canada they don't offer the 4 cyl variants anymore, but I'm still curious because I love those cars. How are you liking it?
Thank you for mentioning fuel economy. Since I drive 17-18k miles per year, this is important to me, and it’s definitely a factor for me when car shopping. The grade of fuel required can also a factor, since premium can run $0.40-$0.80 more per gallon than regular gas.

On paper this isn't even a fair fight, personally. G70 has the better performance features, just as loaded with luxury options, and is $3000USD cheaper. Winning the Motor Trend car of the year shows this car has some serious chops, and deserves to be respected in the market. This car is just an amazing value overall. The Volvo looks amazing, and in my opinion is better looking than the Genesis. So looks and MPG are the won by the Volvo.. but driving experience, acceleration, and overall value are held by the G70. G70 hands down gets my vote. Hyundai/Kia have been KILLING it across their entire lineup in my opinion. Build quality, and overall features have been improved by a lot over the past 5 years. They've also maintained their stance in the market as "the value king", while having similar or even better vehicles than their competition. Highly considering a Veloster N as my next car purchase. I'd love a G70, but can't quite afford a car in that price bracket yet. Love your guy's reviews. Been watching for over a year, and I'm glad you brought on James. He adds some nice commentary to your reviews, and helps add that extra bit of humor that really makes your video's a joy to watch. I can't wait to see where you guy's go from here!
@@waelhcd-9258 Looks are subjective. You're entitled to your opinion, as I'm entitled to mine. I think the G70 is a good looking car, the rear and side views are well thought out. I just think the front end is too busy. The Volvo has a more cohesive look. Either way, the G70 is my favorite of the two, even if I like the look a bit more on the S60.
I just bought a 2019 S60 T6. I narrowed it down to between an ACURA TLX and the S60. I decided to go with the Volvo purely on the styling, infotainment system, camera system and electronics which are far superior to the Acura's (and by the looks of it, this Genesis). Given, the TLX has a 6 cylinder engine and a much smoother tranny then the S60, takes regular gas, and seems more like the Genesis reviewed here, but I don't race around much and when I do it's on my motorcycle (actually, I ride the exact roads this review was filmed on) so I was just looking for comfort. The first few days after I had the car I thought that maybe I made a mistake since I wasn't used to the delayed response (even with my other vehicle a super solid Jeep Wrangler Unlimited), but as the reviewer noted, once I understood what the car is "about", I have had no regrets. As an added bonus, the S60's are still rare on the road: where I live, Mercedes, BMW's and Audis are on every second driveway so I like having something a little bit different and the styling is as nice if not better then those cars.
These guys have been in my head lately. The other week I get a comparison of three great cars. One of which (the GTI) is most likely to end up in my driveway. This week I get a comparison of my two favorite sporty/luxury models. One of which (the G70) is most likely to continually get pined for by me. Great reviews and great videos!
James it’s a 2.0 Dynamic in Mallorca Blue. After, getting an insurance quote on the V6 I had to pass. So, I bought a JB4 and new plugs to go with it. Fingers crossed it works to keep my warranty, dupe the insurance company and make me feel like I got the 3.3T.....well almost feel like it at least.
Yes I agree the Volvo steering is a tad mushy, but with the speed chip of the Polestar in the R-Type the 316HP is closer to 330 or more, and it really jumps out from the crowd from out the gate. Ad the overall comfort and it really is a great car to drive, either in the city or on the highway. The only thing I wouldn't spend money on is the Heads-up display. The ApplePlay is more informative and responsive. Save your money here and put it into the upgraded sound system. Great review here, however. Just tuned in to you guys and I think you're amongst the best out there reviewing cars!

having driven both a 2013 and a 2020 s60 I agree with the comment. I love the heavy wheel of the 2013, but I just can't get used to the lightness of the 2020
G70 is intended for American market which truly a winner here, while Volvo is intended for worldwide with their tiny 2.0l engine. With 3.3l engine not everyone in Europe or Asia will buy because the cost of ownership would be higher.
Please do a Mazda 6 2.5T, Honda Accord 2.0T, Nissan Altima 2.5T, Kia Stinger 2.0T comparison. Then take the winner and compare it to Audi, Mercedes, BMW grand coupes/sportbacks with the same size engine and/or horsepower. PLEASE???
Usually you go and compare things class to class. Mazda 6 and Accord I understand since they are in the same economy sedan class, but the Altima is a compact class which would compare to something like a Civic and the Stringer is a RWD sports car which is totally different from all the ones you stated which are either FWD or AWD... So there's a lot of unfair balance between what each of these cars excel at and therefore you will have extremely inconsistent results trying to compare these...
@Rev limits my Intake tune and downpipe stinger walks m3s. Meaning this with the same mods would kill one. They can easily just crank up the boost from the factory and add stiffer suspension components, stickier tires etc etc. With this motor cranked up or having slightly bigger turbos it would have no issue rivaling the m3 on the street.
@@brocks692 oh I'm sure but a 80k car should walk a 36k Kia. The fact that 2k in mods gets you a comfier faster car than an m3 is huge value for money. For the price of getting that m3 you can get an upgraded turbo g70 and save tons of money... It's all on value there. You can get a whipple charged new Gen mustang 10speed if you want cheap speed, 45 k for a 9 second car lol. Just saying if power is a concern you can have a fast stinger or g70 for much less than an m3
Regarding the cruise control of the S60 does from 1 by 1, you have to hold the button. They used the 5 by 5 because drivers use me often to go until the next tent.

I'd take the Volvo - catagorically better (to me) interior, exterior, and everyday usability. Simply stunning design. With that said, the G70 is brilliant! It's just a matter of where one's priorities are; I'd take the Genesis if performance or budget was necessary.
I test drove the 2.0 T Genesis G70 yesterday. It was a very sporty car. Load the ground even though it was a 4 door Practically no room to sit in the backseats. Today I might go test drive the Volvo S 60.

헷까꿍 The only thing it lacks is soul. The looks are kinda generic, but I can get past that. I can’t get past the v6 though. It has plenty of power, but it still sounds like nothing. I’d prefer a less powerful straight six or straight five.
I love your descriptive analysis in your reviews.. one criticism I have is that when you're trying to show us how "fast" a car is by steeping down on the accelerator, we (the audience) have no reference point to judge its speed. Would love to see a dash cam showcasing the quick down.
This was very good review. You guys are killing it. I'd take the genesis any day. Not that the Volvo is bad but honestly that genesis looks mean and it can walk the talk.
Never thought I’d say a Genesis looks better than a European car but in this case it it looks way better than the Volvo. Sounds way better too actually.
I'd say the two best looking vehicles in there class. Easily. I'd still take the "Kia". Love the G70. In my test drive of the S60 I noticed and hated two thing, the front wheels still spin in AWD guise which is poor, and the steering is terrible. No idea what the steering was programmed after but a drunk person I'm guessing was the target. Great video fellas. Love it
The steering force is adjustable on modern Volvos. In fact, many many things are. You just need to create an individual drive mode and configure the car to how you want it. You can store three driver profiles that are completely different. If you want sporty, you need the T8 (which isn't out, yet, for the S60). Volvo is also a premium luxury brand... Hyundai is not... though they do seem to be making one heck of a valiant effort.
@@Laughingorcorp They're a division of Hyundai that was founded only three years ago... Lexus, while just being Toyota, has a 29 year history in the luxury market. BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, etc... have all been in the luxury / premium market for decades (or approaching a century) to give you an idea...

James is always more willing to side with the more "soft/luxurious" ride because he drives a miata and impreza wrx in canada of course he knows the value of a comfortable daily driver in awful roads and bad traffic. On an unrelated note, Volvo, Toyota, and other car companies need to knock it off with vague, loose, light steering in their new cars.
The steering in the new Camry is much improved. Volvo could make tight steering if they wanted to. I guess they feel it doesn't match the relaxed nature of their cars, even their sportier ones.
Tbh guys. I've had fast sports cars and they're a lot of fun, but on a day-to-day basis I just want a sleek, stylish and comfortable car. The steering shouldn't be direct and the suspension shouldn't be too hard. Way too many reviewers focus on the wrong things these days. I say Volvo and comfort for the win!

I drive the xc60 and to be honest i love the steering wheel. Its amazing how easy you can change lanes and turn.

@@ThrottleHouse I think you guys have done very well
Throttle House has a great format, the banter, and one liners are awesome, very entertaining yet informative reviews. Definitively pondering the G70 in RWD, seems great value. I think Volvo S60 is exterior design is so well done, no unnecessary curves, false vents, and their interiors (plus seats) seem so good.
The Koreans are progressing faster than all other cars makers combined
They can but don't make development fast as they can.. Who would buy a hyundai sports car if they made it right now. Not only sports car but also a high class sedan. Even I am a Korean but I'd rather buy the german one. May be different in the future
After watching Scotty Kilmer and doing my own research on youtube from German car owners, the only German car brand I'd want is BMW. Miss me with that Volkswagon Group garbage, their abundant issues that need recalls and repairs are insane.
Easy to look like you are progressing faster than everyone else when you made shit cars for most of your existence.

Great review. Touches on all the key points without getting caught up in brand or model hype.
The Volvo's adaptive cruise can also go up by increments of 1, you just have to hold the button down for a little while longer.
It’s the same as the Subaru system. It was a challenge to get used to coming from a Hyundai product that is opposite.
I bought a 2019 T6 AWD MOMENTUM with 500 dealer miles on it. I compared everything new and used and was shocked at how amazing and well thought out the S60 is.
The S60 drives like a bigger Mercedes, but more nimble!
I went with the G70 2.0T AWD Prestige!
How much out the door ?

About 37k because I traded in a BMW 335i. Recently paid it off and just celebrated 20 years in the military!
Brandon, Thank you for your service. Share more about your car. Mileage? Ride? Wish it had?
I miss the old 5 cylinder Volvo’s that have really good performance. They were great back then. S60, V70, and C30 R’s were amazing back then.

I got the Volvo S60 Incription and I love it , very quick and quite vehicle with just a stunning interior and just a beautiful car, overall great car.
I just leased a 2023 G70 fully loaded with the 3.3 liter turbo. I just traded in my BMW (my 3rd BMW) for this Genesis and I have to say that I'm extremely impressed. Looking forward to my first road trip!!!
"And since Thomas keep asking me to his house for an hour and a half to peel his tangerines..." Are we sure that's not a euphemism of some sort? All joking aside though, I've really been loving you guys' reviews as well as the silly intro skits. Keep it up!
Note:The addaptive control in the volvo can be set as + or - 1 by holding the increasing or decreasing speed button.
Cyrus Bebensee s60 looks boring to the g70 sportiness

I love the heavy wheel of the 2013, but I just can't get used to the lightness of the 2020
If they wanted a Volvo with more "performance" they should have got the polestar version of the s60. I loved the start though! I enjoyed this video
look - the Volvo will not compete with a BMW M, Merceds AMD, or other cars in performance
but, the Volvo looks great and has a ton of luxury
@Wilbur Martin yeah true. Just thought I'd mention though haha
Rewatching this in July 2021, it still holds up and I dream of the Canadian snow instead of this fatal Southern California heat.
@@ubacow7109 are u kidding ... The Altima Is in the class as the 6 and accord. The Sentra is against civic

@@IReahpZzrace a similarly modded m3 or even m340i for that matter and let me know how it goes 😅
Idk why but I love S60 steering system 😂, very soft and gentle, easy to control

I'd take the Volvo - catagorically better (to me) interior, exterior, and everyday usability. Simply stunning design. With that said, the G70 is brilliant! It's just a matter of where one's priorities are; I'd take the Genesis if performance or budget was necessary.

I love your descriptive analysis in your reviews.. one criticism I have is that when you're trying to show us how "fast" a car is by steeping down on the accelerator, we (the audience) have no reference point to judge its speed. Would love to see a dash cam showcasing the quick down.

If you want sporty, you need the T8 (which isn't out, yet, for the S60).

the cruise control on the volvo goes in increments of 1 if you keep the +/- buttons pressed for more than a second.

The Volvo is really good looking, but I trust the Genesis reliability much better, and a 2.0 Turbo can sound great, look at the Veloster N.
Robert Goudreau Nice point, thought about it. You’re the first to bring it up.
How do you compare a 3.3 dual turbo to 2.0 no matter who makes it.
