Hey whadya know, I was was just going down a jointer rabbit hole cause I’m a hobbyist woodworker, and then realized I go to school here. Although ironically, never taken anything woodworking-related. That aside, certainly a phenomenal guard. Too bad it’s so outlandishly expensive
I'm interested in this guard. I wrote Suva to see how I can get a guard for our Grizzly jointer. Where did you purchase your guard from? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
+Felisha Wild Hi Felisha; Suva was very kind to donate this guard to us as we are a training institution. It costs about $1,800. Contact me at pmolzahn@madisoncollege.edu if you'd like contact info for the person I dealt with at Suva.
Keep the guard, give me the Oliver! Did you guys rehab that jointer, or find it in such good condition? About the only thing to improve that machine would be to drop in a Shelix cutterhead--though I know some guys still prefer the traditional knives. I suppose in a school setting the budget and wherewithal exists to keep sharp knives in the machine at all times. 12"? Have you screwed the base of the machine into the floor to reduce vibration, and are the feet resting on some kind of vibration-reducing pad?
It's a nice guard but that price for an after market part is just fucking thievery. I can buy my choice of a dozen different quality jointers for the price of that guard. Hell there's even one or two jointers that come with a euro style guard standard that can be had for the cost of their guard.

Does this guard apply pressure to the work piece, either against the fence or against the table, depending on facing or edge jointing operations?
The guard is spring loaded and applies a slight amount of pressure.
