Just gotta love creative problem solving... good job!
That old Delta Jointer is awesome! My drill press is a 1943 Delta that I acquired from the original owner's son, and it's 100% original. It's definitely a conversation piece in my workshop; along with my 1927 Birmingham Stove Company cast iron wood stove that I use for heating (and sometimes cooking) during the few extremely cold days we get here on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Hi Marie - new to your channel, but found this how-to video exactly what I was looking for. I too have a vintage planer, a model 50 Powermatic, and of course, it's missing the guard as well. I've reconditioned it and replaced the knives, but am terrified of using it without a guard. I will be making this improvement ASAP! Thanks so much for the amazing and oh-so practical projects you're posting.
hello.. I made a safety guide after watching your video. Thank you for being an inspiration to me.
Nice. Simple and effective. I'll bear your design in mind if I end up with a second hand planer / thicknesser without a guard.
Awesome! Just picked up I believe the same jointer with a broken guard. Going to copy this!
Just bought an old Craftsman jointer to restore, and the plastic guard had been broken off at some point in its life. I’ve been looking for a way to replace it, or make a custom guard. Your video solves my problem. Thanks!
Glad this video could be useful!
Nice! inspired me to do a guard for myself. it is mch less scary using the machine now
Great video! Subbed
Awesome! Thanks.
Soooo helpful!!!
You are brave to take on that jointer project, at least from my experience, cuz I have no mechanical background. Was it a fun process to restore it?
I told you I was going to go back and bing watch your videos, so I’m starting at the beginning, since I didn’t discover you until fairly recently.
Thanks for the video. I hope that you like making UA-cam videos, because you are very good at it (builds, explanations, brilliant ideas [drill press table!], sense of humor, attention to detail, etc.)
Barbara, thank you so much for all your great comments!
Restoring the jointer was frustrating but at the same time so satisfying once it was done!
I have the same jointer and thanks for this DIY, I'm gonna make it tonight because it's been scary using the jointer without it. Does your tables are parallels? I barely get a edge without gap.
The shop tour 2020 brought me here
Me too!
Her attempt at keeping us away failed.
Would it have been possible to just buy a similiar joint guard from a parts & accessories store? I just bought and old King jointer but cant find a guard anywhere.
Hi. Nice video. I just got hold of a similar jointer, without the guard. Where did you manage to get a manual from?
I was able to find something online by looking up Rockwell Delta jointer or something like that. Here's a link to the manual I found that was close enough to my model: www.manualslib.com/manual/725778/Delta-6-Deluxe-Jointer.html
Thanks very much. Mine looks very similar, though it's a different brand.
Nice
This may be an awesome idea. Movers messed up the one on my jointer.
A must have in my opinion... better safe than sorry.
Ok now come over and build me one.
