I'm my opinion, France has some of the most outside the box, not afraid to not experiment, dare I say avant garde metal/music/art/movies out there. I love their contribution to music. Japan also creates some of the most experimental/crazy metal/music out there. I'm very happy that you feel this way and aren't afraid to put your opinion out there. It's a shame to get stuck on black metal from just one part of the world, let alone claim it to be the best out there. Thanks again man. I just subbed yesterday and I love your shit man!
I was suprised when I saw how much different styles of black metal exist in different countries! The greek scene for example is so melodic and different in riffing and has many influences and I also love it and count it as black metal! Every country has something for the desired mood! Have to check the French and Brazil scene out the next weeks! The stuff which got my at first listen where Osculum Infame and Vlad Tepes but I will check out your suggestions mane! Great channel! keep it up!
I was such a huge fan of the Véhémence debut, and was waiting a few years for them to pop up again with a new album and when they did I was so happy, listened to their new monster and was not disappointed at all. I don't like it as much as their debut still but I still love it. I kindof see it as a wild untamed beast, kinda simple and occasionally disordered song structures that may not need to be as long as they are, however I love that it's dripping with ideas and power and passion, and it doesn't stop ripping your neck to shreds in the most ferocious, untempered manner possible. The reason I enjoy Assiege more is because it feels more focused and mature, where every moment matters to the song and each riff hits right on the money. It's almost as if this new album was their debut, and Assiege is their sophomore. The new one is wild, powerful, and frenzied animal yet wanders at times when it shouldn't, and Assiege feels like the same animal grown up, less energized yet is completely focused in experienced and uses all its power where it matters most to get its kill everytime without missing
Another fantastic project you missed was Murmuüre. A must listen for any fan of ambient/atmospheric black metal and one of my top 10 albums of all time.
I agree, the French scene is the best. Glad you included Sale Freux on the list. I've been meaning to ask you if you've listened to the album from Grylle that was released earlier this year? I think it's right up your alley.
KFR scared me when I was a teenager. KFR scares me now I am an adult. KFR is scary. Also shoutout to Maxime Taccardi for bleeding all over the tape of "Death March" I bought from him!

Great, really needed guidance to the french BM scene and already liked Vi (6). I'm afraid I'm on of those you kindly referred to "still living in 95" cause my favorite BM albums last few years all came from good old Scandinavia: Vargrav - "Netherstorm", Mare - "Ebony Tower" and my AOY so far in 2019 Ultra Silvam with "The Spearwound Salvation"
Hey man! Great video and great bands too. France has a lot of gems. Check out Nécropole, Caverne and Catacombes. Very good bands with very catchy riffs and atmosphere for sure!
Nice video man! Happy to hear that my scene is great too haha, ima contribute a demo soon, anyways i wanted to ask, what are the bands in the beggining? They sound pretty good!
i'm late as fuck to comment, but France crushes in the black metal scene. i mean i love black metal from other countries, but France honestly probably holds the crown for now. It's cliche and everyone knows this band but god i adore Mutiilation. and putting S.V.E.S.T and pensees nocturnes on this list did my soul good.
Cool video. I'm not an expert on French BM but I really like Haemoth, Darkenhold and Bekhira. My favourite French BM album is Crossroad by Diamatregon. Also check out No surrender by Kickback. Sick hardcore with Diapsiquir members.
I also think that france has a great scene. Other amazing acts are blessed in sin, osculum infame, sombre chemin, amesoeurs, celestia and many many other
Greetings from Germany, Question. What's your opinion about the side projects by Spektr called Haemoth and Inpestae??? Same with Sale Freux and his side projects Saatkrähe??? All the best and keep your great work on!!! 🍻
If you don't know I advise you Parthenope by Scuorn. It's an incredible and really epic Italian symphonic/folk black album with lyrics sung in Neapolitan language about Roman history and mythology with traditional Neapolitan folk instruments, really beautiful and emotional work.
Yeah, for me it's undeniable that the french scene has some distinctive elements that makes it apart, especially the atmosphere, it has some really devoted, possessed bands, and some truly sick and filthy acts too. Here are a short list of gems that you haven't mention: Malhkerbre- Satanic Resistance, my top 1 black metal album for 2019. Merrimack- Omegaphilia The Arrival of Satan- both Vexing Verses and Passion Sodomy Terror, this music reeks madness and pain, this is fantastic. Hell Militia- Last station on the road of death Temple of Baal- Lightslaying Rituals, really good black/death Arkhon Infaustus- Filth Catalyst Mhonös- LXXXVII, not black metal, more ritual doom, but with the singer of the Arrival of Satan, who does incredible vocal performance, mindblowing stuff Aaaand you should also definitely check out Whourkr's Concrete, a side project of Igorrr, this is the most barbaric techno/death album I've ever listen to, great to melt your brain. Cheers man!
me prefers the israeli black metal scene but the french is really good too nice vid man u are the few ones that talk about extreme metal in a non cringe fashion keep up the good work my dude
Might be beating a dead horse here comme ting on an older video, but I got some more recommendations if people are interested: Mortifera, B.M.H and Autarcie
Nothing beats Norway at their prime for me, but bands like Abigor from the Austrian Black Metal Syndicate come close and are fucking great. Also really like USBM scene, particularly Black Twilight Circle stuff.
You should listen to Ravensblood, and the new wave of french bm bands (since 2016) there are some bands like Totale Angoisse, Furfur, Nuit Macabre... you should listen to. Just check the affialited bands and labels, there are some fucking masterpieces.
All be honest. Black metal isn’t my specialty but as far as metal? Yeah no. Finland buries France. I seem to discover a new great Finnish band especially death metal every week! I would say Colombia and Chile are killing it as well. Over the last 25 years I’ve always found a great French band here and there but not until recently have I really thought of France as a metal capital. Granted like I said I only really know about black metal up until the 3rd wave so my knowledge is limited but metal of all genres combined I still think France is behind even by today’s standards just by sheer volume.
Wyattxhim true, like I said black metal for me is at its best with bands from the first and second wave. Especially the first. And I personally don’t really dive into black metal unless is dirty, raw, and has a bit of speed or thrash element to it. Except for the Greek Hellenic style I love that stuff. My head has really been into death metal of late and I could probably name 30 Finnish death metal bands that have come out in the last 5 years. That doesn’t include the crust/punk/thrash stuff too. I don’t know it seems to me every time I turn my head to a new metal band about 70% of the time they come from Finland.
Finland is a lot better at death metal than they are in black. Outside of Beherit, there's not really much that stands out and that can rival the best out of other scenes.
Basically, many many black metal scene are good, but being "good" is not sufficient. Being "excellent" "awesome" "amazing" "dark as hell" is faaaar from being enough. French bm is the most creative one, almost every band that pushed the limit of Black Metal so far that we had to totally redefine it, is french. As simple as that.
Finland does have some great bm. Beherit, Behexen, Sargeist, Horna, Archgoat, Impaled Nazarene, Enochian Crescent, True Black Dawn, Satanic Warmaster, Barathrum and Goatmoon come to mind. But French are just on another level when it comes to black metal
No Aorlhac, Aldaaron, Belenos, or og Osculum Infame? cringe bro, cringe 😔. At least my bois Véhémence is here. But yeah France does it better, they're about tied with Germany with second/third favorite bm country, Norway is my favorite but not for the obvious stuff, but for stuff like Obtained Enslavement, Aeternus, Limbonic Fart, Odium, Hades, and the other lesser known symphonic/melodic/pagan/viking bands (but also for some of the obvious like Immortal, Enslaved, and Emperor). Also France has the best celtic folk black metal which is my shit. Belenos, Heol Telwen, Bran Barr, Aes Dana, and Vindland (Windir worship, not celtic music but Breton lyrics and heritage)
Vindland is one of my favorites from the 2000´s great Windir continuation! I have to get into the french scene now, some stuff was just too raw from me (Les legiones noires) I will listen to your mentions. Vlad Tepes and Osculum Infame where my favorites in my first listens!
Merci beaucoup !

As a french person, i feel really honored that you made a special episode for our awesome black metal scene.
I'm my opinion, France has some of the most outside the box, not afraid to not experiment, dare I say avant garde metal/music/art/movies out there. I love their contribution to music. I’ve always said that black metal is the best when it’s a bit avant-garde
You got that right bud.
It's not a WyattXhim without the word "Esoteric."

France and Sweden are the best scenes. Both have a significant bands that expanded the horizons of black metal.
