@@Zrakow what's wrong with whitechapel?
Every generation has nostalgia for the most popular genres during their formative years, and there's nothing wrong with that. However, if you think about it, teens are actually the most diverse listeners of metal. Young people tend to spend more time researching music than older people. Try finding anyone over the age of 40 that even knows what black metal or death metal is (no, five finger death punch doesn't count) then compare that with how many young people could tell you the difference between death metal, black metal and heavy metal. It's no contest.
Anyone else notice that they put "Trash metal" instead of "Thrash metal" or am I hallucinating lol
Yeah, if the inclusion of Pirate metal and Extreme metal as genres didn't tip him off, the misspelling of thrash metal certainly gave away the OP's lack of knowledge in metal.
The person making the video didn't make the little picture.
Red Runnergy That picture is from a thrash metal compilation where the creator spelled thrash wrong

Folk metal is awesome. It is more than kilts. It is the combination of metal instruments and traditional instruments such as fiddles, hammered dulcimers, pipes and more. It also incorporates traditional patterns and styles. It is by far the most diverse sounding genre I know of. It can be mellow and beautiful like symphonic or downright brutal.

"The popular genres"
Includes Pirate and Viking metal which have like one popular band each, but not Progressive Metal which is growing so heckin big
Pirate and Viking metal aren't even genres.
Yeah, most people would just name Amon Amarth as Viking and Alestorm as Pirate. They aren't really genres. Lyrics don't determine genre. Amon Amarth is melodeath, and Alestorm is primarily power metal (with a bit of folk thrown in).
Viking metal is _technically_ a separate genre, but it has its roots in Norwegian black metal, therefore excluding Amon Amarth from the genre (i.e Burzum is "viking metal")
They are both part of folk metal, folk metal has tons of big and amazing bands. In the 2000's there have been sold out folk metal festivals multiple times like pagan fest. I don't think progressive metal has that status, with all due respect to progressive metal, Opeth is one of my favourite bands.
Thank you for commenting this, seriously. Also they both voted "viking metal" up higher but folk metal and pirate metal just being to dependent on theme? Isn't folk metal kind of the umbrella for shit like pirate and viking metal??

Wait Extreme Metal? That's Death Metal, Black Metal, and Grindcore wtf. That's not really a "genre" it's a broad term used to describe the heavier stuff
I think what they meant is the lesser known genres like pornogrind, grindcore, deathgrind, and all that stuff. Death Metal and Black metal can be extreme, but it's not quite as batshit insane as the ones I just mentioned. I think that's what they're getting at.
Extreme metal is a lot of different music, but something that is black or death isn't going to be defined as extreme metal.
@@eebro65 Extreme Metal ain't a genre...
I think anything crazier than thrash can be considerd extreme metal but that makes it a really broad term cuz most death and black metal is obv not a crazy as anything grind but slam death for example can make some grind seem calm.

My favorite sub genres has changed I was a death metal/ Deathcore fan but now I love black metal more than both of them. I’ve liked it for a while but it has grown on me for sure. Idk I know it doesn’t matter but I think it’s a good idea for them to do this kind of video every few years or so because music tastes can change.
I personally like symphonic and powermetal, because symphonic metal provides a lot of moods with the combination of classical and modern, and powermetal has a good pace of being energetic in general. Symphonic and Powermetal could go really well together. Once combined, they give some of the best imagery of pure adrenaline, like in an action scene of a movie. Totally respectable to put the grandfather of metal in S tier.
Let’s be honest, the only reason people hate on Nu metal is because limp bizkit is kinda cringy and linkin park went soft (not hating on linkin park tho)
Agree. That and an elitist hate towards rap.
I don't even know why people consider Linkin Park nu metal. I know their first album is nu metal-ish, but Incubus, Alien Ant Farm, and Devildriver all had some nu metal songs
@@shanebergman5801 because their biggest albums are nu metal
@@Necropoliis though Hybrid Theory has sold more copies than their other albums, Minutes to Midnight sold more albums in it's debut week than any of their other albums. Also 6 of their albums hit #1 on Billboards album sales, that does not include Hybrid Theory or Reanimation
@@shanebergman5801 that's true, but 20 years on, are you more likely to remember first week sales, or total sales?
I love how he said Extreme Metal is boring whilst he is a Core guy and this genre has predictable breakdowns and is a genre that never gets improved without adding electronic content
@@sohibconner6926 you arent wrong but deathcore is safer and is not very surprising. It kind of follows the same patterns and very few bands in that scene established themselves as unique.
But its all a matter of opinion metal is good no matter the subgenres you prefer
I want someone to bring back Heavy Metal. I’m so freaking tired of every band having growly vocals or witch screams.
That's why I don't like modern Metal. There are a few modern bands I like, such as Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, and stuff like that.
@@thrashmetalhead88 Yeah most modern metal feels so cliche to me. Love Avenged Sevenfold
Yeah there very few popular heavy metal bands now a days 🥲
this band named slackjaw kind has that old school vibe
@@warhampster7666 ABSOLUTELY SPREAD THE GOOD WORD BROTHER
i honestly think Metal had an influence on EDM, they sound different obviously, but the structure of the genres in my opinion are similar. they have an intro a pre chorus a chorus a pre breakdown if that’s what it’s called and then a breakdown.
When I think of Metalcore I automatically think of ATR, Killswitch Engage, Chimaira, and Trivium.
@Chris Smith I think metalcore did not need to use clean vocals because some bands like Converge was thrown into that style. I would say Chimaira had elements but maybe not like ATR or Trivium.
The only metalcore I like is Killswitch Engage.
Metalcore for me is Wage War, KSE, OM&M, Architects, Trivium, Fit for a King, As I lay Dying and August Burns Red . Those are my top tier metalcore bands. Some are either just hardcore or post-hardcore bands.
@Jesse MacKenzie Everyone needs to listen to Unearth. One of the sickest metal bands regardless of subgenre.
@@joshuamatney3703 if you dont like metalcore with cleans, listen Breakdwon of Sanity. My favorite metalcore band ever
I'm lost in the desert, the desert of my mind bro...
*Takes an hour long bong rip*
*first riff starts on exhale*
Austin’s list is the weirdest shit I’ve ever heard. I mean, I fiercely disagree, but i respect it 😂
Thank goodness I'm not the only one, lol
i agreed with his way stronger
Omg I love this. Thanks.
