    Some other notable albums from Poland I would add are:
    Christ Agony - Moonlight Act III
    Arkona - Imperium

    Not gonna lie, I've set this year to be the year where I find out about and hopefully even get into bands I've yet to listen to, new or old. And this channel is doing wonders for that, from Flagitious Dilapidation in the Idiosyncrasy (I think that's the spelling that's just off the top of my head) to Intestine Baalism. I've been introduced to some actually really good music from this channel alone, and I feel it's gonna be the case for more bands throughout this year.

    Rotting christ Thy mighty contract was the album that brought me into black metal for real. I've listened to songs from time to time back in the day, but after thy mighty contract I started actually buying black metal albums. Also managed to see them live where the crowd chanted their name and they came back and played The sign of evil existence. I always love to listen to their older stuff just like the mentioned thy mighty contract and non serviam, a dead poem and passage to arcturo.
    Like come on man, Exiled archangels are one of the best black metal songs I've ever heard.

Such interesting ways how different bands express themselves through their Beautiful and powerful Black metal music. I would love to check them out. A lot of amazing albums you listed here. I would agree that Blut aus Nord started off really strong but I wouldn't really say that they were by the books black metal at all. Not only is there the drum machine but Ultima thule especially is mixed so weirdly that the kick sounds like a distand thunder and the guitars are so distorted you can't really make out the riffs. But it all adds up to a very emmursive atmosphere and for me they were a sign of the amazing albums to come later in their discography.

Could've went with Tenebrae too, but I wanted to stick with just one band.

    That C93 shirt is killer! Looks like a dead crow. I have the weird Jesus shirt which I always feel strange wearing cause not a christian.
    Cool vid. I'm of the rare opinion the whole Norwegian drama was in some ways a detriment to the scene.
    And holy shit you got that Comus album man! Hell yeah!
    Interesting point about the more barbaric sounds in other bands outside of Norway. You see personally I would say a number of those bands, such as Blasphemy, are not even Black metal. Its war metal and that whole bestial sound is a different but related scene. Also the sound itself and structure of the music is incredibly different from not only early Dimmu but even Dark Throne. Summoning and Abigor are much more connected to that sound or spirit.
    I have said it here before and I will say it again, early Cradle is fucking amazing. Been listening to those early albums for a loooong time.

    • @BrotherhoodofSteel-zh7ty
      @BrotherhoodofSteel-zh7ty Рік тому

      Blasphemy is black metal just because it doesn't sound like Norwegian Black Metal doesn't mean it's not black metal. Also War Metal is not a real genre and that term was created much later on during the early 2000's which was after Blasphemy's heyday. Even if you wanted to label Blasphemy as War Metal everyone will tell you that war metal is a subgenre of black metal that blends it with elements of Death Metal, Grindcore, and Thrash. Blasphemy being partially influenced by Grindcore, Death, and Thrash Metal doesn't disqualify them as being Black Metal as ALL black metal during the second wave including the Norwegian bands were influenced by said subgenres.

    I would put the death date of first wave black metal in 1988 as that was when Bathory released their last Black Metal album "Blood, Fire, Death" and the birth date for the second wave of black metal in 1988-1989 as those were the year when some of the first Second wave bands such as Samael, Rotting Christ, Blasphemy, Varathron, Mystifier, etc. started popping up with their demos. Also I would say that Root and Masters Hammers should've been in the video as those are bands that I would say bridge the gap between First and Second wave black metal as they both formed right when the first wave was in it's final stages but were starting to get notoriety in the beginning of the second wave and released their debuts during the era of Second Wave black metal.

    • @BrotherhoodofSteel-zh7ty
      @BrotherhoodofSteel-zh7ty Рік тому

      I forgot to mention that 1988 and 1987 were also the years when many First wave Black Metal bands started changing their sound to something completely different such as Sodom, Holocausto, Mutilator, Celtic Frost, Sepultura, Etc.

    what everyone misses about war metal is: the grindcore influence.
    What sets apart Mystifier and Profanatica from Sadistik Exekution and Blasphemy is the grindcore Influence. Yes it is all a mix of black metal elements and death metal elements but an easier to set apart Bestial Black Metal and War Metal is if its closer to Death Metal or Grindcore
    Some of the favourite bands of Blasphemy are grindcore bands (as they have said)

    • @profile1674
      @profile1674 Рік тому +1

      That link between grindcore and black metal is no coincidence. As I remember it from those days, is that the first people I heard talking about this thing called black metal were usually dudes into grindcore. There was this one guy who used to be the vocalist of a local death/grind band who was totally immersed into the underground, and (of course) had a distro. He'd be standing there behind his boxes with demo's, cd's and vinyl by bands like Arsedestroyer, Rot, Agathocles and Regurgitate, as well as the early Wild Rags stuff, wearing a Sadistik Exekution shirt, talking about how he recently went to see these awesome bands called Blasphemy, Immortal and Rotting Christ. He's still in the scene, by the way, I run into him regularly.

    Not sure if they count as 2nd Wave (they formed in 1994 and didn't release their first album until 2001), but Dark Fortress is another cool German Black Metal band! Their sound has changed a bit over time; they started out playing fairly melodic BM, but their more recent output displays some Extreme Prog Metal characteristics. Basically, if you like Naglfar, Lunar Aurora, and Ne Obliviscaris, they're worth checking out

    II tend to think 2nd wave ended in 99 why? because that's when the imitators really started to pop up. For the UK Hecate Enthroned (also check out Defod formed in 2021 but the original HE line up), Daemonum, Thine, Salem Orchid, Frost (mick kenney).
