Wowowow. We need a HD version! They could even use Conversations with Curtis as bonus features!
They remade fucking Plumbers Don't Wear Ties! You can't tell me they can't do it for this!
There's something about the crunchy, low-fps choppiness of the in-game footage that makes it more... I don't know, it makes it something. Something it really needs to be.
What the director, editor, cinematographer, sound designer, set designer and actors did with this scene was perfect. I can just imagine how filming was.
Paul really sold the pain of the "sting of the needle, the burn of electric on your skin"
wow. this would've made a great 90's TV miniseries just based on the cutscenes alone.
Phantasmagoria 2 remastered !
Yooooo... Videos from back then really were compressed to hell and back two times over, weren't they? Makes me wonder how Wing Commander III's source videos looked like. *Wink nudge more Hamill for the people*
Yes, we need HD version of P2 :)

The original footage looks so crisp now! It's amazing 😃
100% the real deal. This classic footage in a time capsule...? I loved working on this project. THe CODEC compression at the time was very cutting edge so that it could work in a 256 color @ 15 fps PC. I belive the CODEC was called DUCK compression., way before the days of H.256. Thank you for sharing, cant wait to see ALLOT more unedited stuff.
Thank you for dropping by, Brett!
I was a pleasure talking to you about Phantasmagoria 2 last year!
You are correct, the codec they used at the time was called DUCK.
Wes Plate (the editor) exported the videos in 720x486 at 30 fps using QuickTime.
Then they were cropped and resized to 320x268 with 15 fps without any compression.
Then those uncompressed cropped QuickTime movies were converted to the AVI format.
Then they used Adobe Premiere 4.0 with the Duck TrueMotion compressor to create the in-game videos we all know and love :)
Even the framerate of the original footage is 60fps! That's crazy awesome!
It's actually 29.97fps :)
@@danielalbu Ohhhhh...gotcha! Thanks for letting me know!
This is fantastic. Still hard to believe someone had those master tapes!
Curtis aka Paul I never knew you had a channel and now this upload wowowow 🤯 man I *SHREDDED* those 5 cd's wearing them down back when I was 14, and this was by far my fav of the darker fmv games 😁👍
We *NEED* a re-release with higher quality footage or swear to god I'll send Blob's descendants down to fetch it for me 😄 forreal though I was thinking of enhancing/upscaling the old compressed footage, what you've got looks 10000000x better than any AI, shader or scaler could ever make it ❣
PLEASEEE upload every scene!!!!!! this is so insane to see after being such a big fan of this game for so long. itd be cool to see all of the high quality scenes put together in one vid!!!
We plan to release a new scene every time the previous scene reaches 1K views on UA-cam :)
Wow! Awesome!!
Beautiful quality
Oh this looks awesome! Would be so cool to have a remaster of this game!
Glad I backed this on Kickstarter, it looks amazing. Now remake the game with this and add some new footage Paul!
The better quality, it looks.. NEW!
Activision please do a hd remaster of the games, I'll buy it again 😭
We hope that once Microsoft's acquisition of Activision is completed, Microsoft will give classic Sierra IPs the respect they deserve.
Amazing to see!
Wow this looks WAY better than I thought it would. We have got to find a way mod this into the game 🧡
I'm already looking into it in the ScummVM forums :)
That footage is amazing. Look at those high quality chest hairs! ;)
Right?!
I just found out there is a Phantasmagoria 2 strategy guide. Beng one of my all time favorite games I'm having one posted to Australia! Did you know these were made? Can't wait to see what's in it!
Good luck! Hope it helps you get out of the apartment.
let's get this thing remastered already!
I know, right?
Looks incredible with the HD footage.. Shame it will likely never get remade using that footage... I feel it would sell like hot cakes.. Especially around the classic gamer community
Paul I swear. You have not aged a bit. Not at all! You still look the same after all these years. What's your secret!?
I owe it all to the zoom "touch up" feature.
It looks so much better!! 😍 would be great to have a full remaster
This is so cool, like a memory unlocked from my brain and put into HD.
Holy Cow. That's stunning what you could make out of the video footage.
Awesome. 😎
Take notice that what you see here is not an upscale or remaster of the in-game video.
This was the original footage that they used to create the in-game video!
These are fantastic Paul. I appreciate you showing us this footage after 25 years.
so amazing to see oryginal footage!! that's uniqe! thank you CvC!
did the P2HD project is still running ?^^ just one of my favorite FMV and horror games 😍
AMAZİNG!
Amazing! Is there a chance for a remaster?
This is so exciting! So glad you were able to remaster the old footage.
Wow it looks amazing 🎉 to be fair I also like the in game footage too, the fmv has so much charm but the HD is really awesome, this is the first time I have noticed you had something in your mouth when they gave you Electric treatment
Back in the day mental institutions would force patients to bite down on plastic devices to muffle the patient's screams as they gave them electric shock treatments..
I've played waaay too many games that dealt with the torture and depravity of mental institution treatments..
@@TheGamersGrotto oh I see
Wow the HD version looks significantly better. I'd buy this version day one if it was turned into a full game :D
Exciting times!
Great!!!
Very nice!

Remastered Edition when?
How long did it take to get this intro to HD ?? Regards Curtis
What you see here is not an upscale or remaster of the in-game video.
This was the original footage that they used to create the in-game video!
Looks like it's been rendered in 60 FPS
Should be rendered in 30 to avoid soap opera effect
Nope, it was filmed in 29.97fps and rendered in 29.97fps.
please make phantasmagoria 3
It looks really cool, but I would keep some of the original compression artifacts (akin to film grain) and downstep the frames per seconds. I feel that some of the nostalgic effect is that specific look it had back in the day. Doing a remaster without keeping that old-vibe would look -to me- like when the movies have the dreadful smooth motion filter on the new TVs.
If there will ever be a remaster then the original footage will have to be cropped (since you can see the boom mics in the original footage), and we’ll probably go for a more cinematic look of 24fps.
But at least we’ll have a better starting point than using the original in-game videos.
@@danielalbu absolutely. I think the final HD quality of the video looks better than ever before. Seriously.. That's so impressive.
@@danielalbu Out of interest, is the source video one line-doubled field per second as shown here, or is it full 60 fields?
@@danielalbu Excellent, exactly what I was thinking. I was skeptical at first, but this footage really is a dramatic improvement. But yes, to me at least the ideal version would be to take the new stuff, re-letterbox it, and step it down to 24 fps because the human brain has been trained to expect that for "serious movies."
This is the 69th comment. Nice
we have a kickstarter for an HD remaster?
Remastered Edition when?
